Well, while pondering what I should write about I thought of a few things but it came down to this w

Well, while pondering what I should write about I thought of a few things but it came down to this week’s Dexter episode, school, the follow up to my Fall Out Boy story and Mega64 . I’ll try to keep all short and sweet because we got things to do, like read other blogs and blog.

Well, i’ll start off with the Fall Out Boy album, as I mentioned it was their greatest hits collection and I checked the song list and knew most of the songs, so I hit up youtube to listen to the new singles “From Now on We’re Enemies”, “Yule Shoot Your Eye Out”, “Growing Up” as well as “alpha dog”. The songs were pretty good, some were actually supose to be on the bands last album “folie a deux”. The song that stood out the most to me was “Growing up” It sounded alot like their old stuff which has a much “punkier” sound than their latest efforts.

Now next on today’s topic list is Mega64. Mega64 is an online website created by Rocco Botte, Derrick Acosta and Shawn Chatfeild. Mega64 is primarily these three and their friends who go into public and act out their favorite video games in public, and that’s not all they do! they have a weekly one hour podcast talking to you about their individual weeks, movie/game reviews and just …stories! this week was podcast 123 which was also their “Thankcast” (due to it being Thanksgiving this week in the States) I HIGHLY suggest you check these guys out and watch their podcast when you have an hour to spare or check out their little clips anytime you’re looking for a laugh. (www.mega64.com)

Next up is the latest episode of Dexter and my personal theories both small and big!

So far this season has been AMAZING the writing is just…WOW the comedy/comedic timing is far better this season than any, and if you’re not caught up this is your

***spoiler warning***

you’ll see the same thing but “Spoiler over” when the coast is clear, okay? Now this season has had love, twists and turns, new life and of course death, Micheal C. Hall back at it again as Dexter Morgan, this season a new husband and new father/step-father. Thus far this season has killed off fairly big characters and includes growth for the supporting cast such as Deborah, Angel and Maria to name a few. Lundy’s death was a huge shock for me I could’ve seen his character having a major conflict with Dexter and Deborah. Angel and Maria’s relationship which i’m not totally into this season, places far behind Dex and Deb’s stories as the begin to intertwine. As for Quinn, his relationship with Christine the reporter has been getting him in trouble this season, and that’s not even counting him stealing money from a crime scene. My suspicions on Christine MIGHT be right because I believe that she shot Deb and Lundy, under the “Trinity Killer” Arthur Mitchell (Her father) because Lundy knew to much, but even I kinda doubt that, don’t get me wrong I think she shot them, that just may’ve not been the motive, it’s too coincidental that she wants a story on the now stitched up Deb and Trinity saw Lundy at his next murder location so maybe Trinity used his daughter to kill Trinity? bah…i’m starting to lose myself now! we’ll end the Dexter talk this week, feel free to leave comments on your theories!

***Spoiler Over***

Wow, uhm, as for the last to item on the list, i’ll talk about school . Well, where to start? it was pouring today, it wasn’t bad on the way to class, the way home is what sucked, it was a fairly humid day but leaving school was a different story. First period I had Civics which is only a 23 day course then i’m off in mornings, followed by living and working with children than last but not least a Math course, which oddly enough we’re watching a movie because the teacher isn’t there, good to see I’m getting an education huh? well, I chose to miss that course till the teacher comes back, civics and Living and working with children are pretty easy, once we finish work in civics, she lets us wander about the school, she writes a page of questions which I finish far too early then we can leave, I skipped school and failed, I didn’t do the work and failed, I’m not a moron, anyways, finished that up then onto my next class and I already printed my work, Ms. Stephanie has yet to mark anything, so I just sat and talked to Sorani, Diana and Sabrina all class, then went home after a long tediously boring morning, which should end Monday when my math teacher is back.

Sabrina and I walked to my bus stop, she went home, I hopped on the bus and came home and began to BLOG!~ well… thought of what to blog about that is baha… anyways people i’ll tell you about my day tomorrow, i’ll more than likely have my first manga review tomorrow if some come out early enough.
Same time tomorrow, okay?

Look forward to some manga, music and some massacre~

First, a note about the direction of CKTK. We will be posting our end-0f-the-decade thoughts soon. Also, our top albums of 2009 lists will drop in mid-to-late-December. To lead up to those, we will be posting our top ten albums of the year lists from 2005-2008, sans commentary. We will, of course, link to places online where that commentary is posted if it’s floating out there somewhere. We will also be creating new content, so that the site doesn’t just turn into “Listapalooza 2009″.

These lists will appear unchanged from when we originally wrote them toward the end of each year. This should show you a little bit about what to expect from each author, and hopefully, it will inspire you to go back and listen to some of those great albums that you’ve forgotten from those years.

Without further ado, let’s start it off with ck’s top ten albums of 2005:

I have decided to make a list of my favorite albums from the decade, since the decade is drawing to a close. These are in no particular order:

blink-182, blink-182 – A pop-punk masterpiece.

Green Day, American Idiot - A more mature side of Green Day and one of the only punk rock operas ever.

Jack’s Mannequin, Everything In Transit – An album from Andrew McMahon that showcases perfect pop.

Switchfoot, Nothing Is Sound - Talented alt rockers show their darker side.

Kings Of Leon, Because Of The Times - Alt rock with a small twist of southern rock. Somehow it makes a great album.

Audioslave, Audioslave - Former members of Rage plus Chris Cornell of Soundgarden make the perfect supergroup record.

Angels & Airwaves, I-Empire – Tom Delonge of blink-182 makes yet another great record that is completely underrated

Blind Pilot, 3 Rounds And A Sound – A folky, acoustic album that makes you hope this band will be around for years to come.

Fall Out Boy, Folie à Deux – An band overlooked for being too poppy, they prove themselves for those willing to listen.

Switchfoot, Hello Hurricane - The latest from Switchfoot, going from perfect alt rock songs to perfect pop songs all in the matter of 45 minutes…

I was searching something on youtube and saw a fall out boy song “alpha dog” (Video below) and I wanted to check if they had a new album on the way, I’m a huge fall out boy fan so this is big news for me. I ended up checking the band’s website, found out that it’s a greatest hits album, I was kinda caught off guard, I didn’t think they’ve been together for THAT long but I look back on the great singles released like “Grand Theft Autumn” and “America’s Suite Hearts” well, it seems that this album is a long time coming.

Fall Out Boy’s Evening Out with Your Girlfriend (2003)

Take This to Your Grave (2003)

From Under the Cork Tree (2005)

Infinity on High (2007)

Folie a Deux (2008)

(Listed above is the Fall Out Boy discography.)

The band is taking a break for at least a year to take a breather from one another and rightfully so, being together for a long time with no band member doing anything on their own during that time period other that cameos and being featured in songs.

Pete Wentz the “unofficial” spokesperson for Fall Out Boy and credited for writing most of the band’s material went on record in an MTV interview saying “..and I wouldn’t use the term break up, we’re on a break, decompressing. I ‘m making up a new term, we’re decompressing right now.”

Personal Thoughts on my Story:

Though i’m kind of upset that they’re taking a small break, I do realize that it IS needed and this band is probably one of the few most deserving of a “decompression”. Hey, if it inspires them to make better music than they already have, then more power to them. Also, check out one of the other new songs from the greatest hits album “From Now On We’re Enemies.” ~ Enjoy!

It’s that time of year again where writers and editors alike scramble to piece together cohere

It’s that time of year again where writers and editors alike scramble to piece together coherent lists of the albums that shone the brightest over the past 12 months. Personally I find these lists extremely difficult since I always, always, always leave one or two essential albums out that for some reason didn’t cross my mind when I searched through all the dark crevices to find the music that meant the most to me.

Alternative Press took things a step further by providing a list of the Top Ten Singles of the Decade. The results are void of many of the scene bands that grace the covers of their pages these days and reflect an era of music most prominent when I was in high school, so much so I felt the need to comment on each song and it’s relevance to me personally and how I see it fitting into to influential music.

10. Thursday – “Understanding In A Car Crash” – I am very excited to see Thursday on the list, especially this track. Thursday changed the way music was played, incorporating elements of various styles into their post-punk poetry. Their songs were decidedly darker than their contemporaries mostly thanks to unfortunate circumstances in vocalist Geoff Rickly’s personal life. What they created was something so beautiful its impact is something that will forever resonate with me. Musically, they are some of the most talented people I have ever heard, weaving intricacies around lyrics that shatter my heart, creating an eager dependency. Their influence is something not recognized in the modern derivative of this style of music, and perhaps this is simultaneously also the biggest punk disappointment of the decade.
9. Jimmy Eat World – “The Middle” – I fell in love with Jimmy Eat World when I first discovered the album Clarity, a record that solidified so much those feelings of being lost and those confusions about love. It’s beautiful and heart-wrenching and easily one of my favourite albums of all time. The selected track is from their record Bleed American and arguably that song that made them a household name. And this is a song that will also forever speak to me because it is very much about not believing in yourself, it’s about losing yourself while attempting to find yourself, but ultimately it’s really about standing up for yourself. It’s about not giving up. It’s about acceptance of self. For a sad song, it’s so full of hope and sometimes hope in music is all we ever need.
8. My Chemical Romance – “Helena” – When I think of My Chemical Romance two memories come to mind. The first of the time they played the Kool Haus with the Used, a show I attended with my good friend Shyla back when we were young and full of rockstar dreams. While I was never religiously into My Chem, I always really liked them. The second memory is when I attended Bamboozle in ‘07 and watching their theatrical version of their hit single “Welcome to the Black Parade” with the company of a few great girls. This song is so terrific, with piano that reminds me of Meat Loaf songs that thus remind me of when I was young. With an intro so epic, I have no choice but to post the video here:

7. Dashboard Confessional – “Screaming Infidelities” – Dashboard is often associated with being one of the first mainstream emo bands, but they remind me of this girl I used to know named Elizabeth. In fact, Elizabeth introduced me to a lot of the music that later greatly influenced me as a music lover and as someone trying to make sense in a crazy world. “Screaming Infidelities” is one of Dashboard’s most well known songs, but I much prefer “Hands Down” as their best single and “The Sharp Hint Of New Tears” as one of their best songs. They allowed it to be okay for grown men to cry about their girlfriends, and whether you love them or hate them for this their influence and presence cannot be denied. Not only has it helped shape an entire movement of music, but it’s also helped get a lot of losers laid.
6. The Postal Service – “Such Great Heights” – I totally agree with this song choice because this is one of the most amazing songs I know and it is always stuck in my head. This song really put Ben Gibbard on the map as an important multi-dimensional songwriter, as his other project Death Cab for Cutie was already successful. I love the way the lyrics wind around the meanings in this song, which is constructed almost like a Weakerthans song. This band allowed indie electronic rock to be welcomly incorporated into the punk scene. As much as I love them, I feel the modern bands who try to encapsulate this raw, innovative energy are actually partially responsible for the decline in the Warped Tour style of punk rock, as more and more electric music seeps into the scene. However, I do not put this blame on the Postal Service at all.
5. Taking Back Sunday – “Cute Without The ‘E’ (Cut From The Team)” – Taking Back Sunday came onto the scene as a breath of fresh air, with a new way of displaying their ideas. Catchy, swinging lyrics and melodies laced with spite and conviction, they were in a league of their own that roped me in right away and continues to harness my love. They too faced their share of Long Island drama, silly affairs that lead to some of the best songs and shows I know. Behind sugary sweet vocals were battle scars that slowly crept more and more into the music, solidifying my connection to this music and warping them slowly into deeper and darker musical avenues. This band never got the true respect they deserved, so thank you AP for including them in the list.
4. Fall Out Boy – “Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down” - Back before Pete Wentz entirely ruined Fall Out Boy’s authenticity (even though he writes the majority of the lyrics), they were making waves for their unique style of song writing. Off their debut album From Under the Cork Tree, this song encapsulates the rise of poppy emo bands in the mainstream. Since there are way too many politics in punk rock, this band also divided people into emo lovers and punk lovers, and those who sided with this album were also often discredited. However, their impact tells it’s own story. They were one of the firsts to name songs with obnoxiously long titles, my favourites being “A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little more Touch Me,” “”I Slept with Someone in Fall Out Boy and All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written about Me” and personal favourite “I’ve Got a Dark Alley and a Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth (Summer Song).” They embraced their image and continue to hone it without sacrificing their ideas and visions. I respect them for this, especially considering they do put on a stellar live show.
3. Jimmy Eat World – “Sweetness” - Also from Bleed American, I feel this spot definitely should have gone to Brand New. Brand New created a dramatic, cult following that was still apparent in their two sold-out Toronto shows this past weekend. If TBS is on the list, BN should be too. Brand New continually changed the way I personally looked at music in terms of development, and I mean this in both positive and negative ways. Their earlier material wasn’t that amazing, but they still could have put “Mix Tape” or “Soco Amaretto Lime” in here. It is hard to deny their influence, especially on Deja Entendu and the Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me. Did someone have a memory lapse? Brand New seems like a no-brainer to me for an AP list.
2. My Chemical Romance – “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” - Another great song by My Chem, but perhaps the people at AP couldn’t think of other bands (Tight deadlines? Too much on the Go?). Really they have only named eight bands as the most influential over the past decade, where I feel a spot could and should have gone to acts like Propaghandi, Rise Against, AFI, Greenday or even Blink 182. What about the Get Up Kids? Or Bright Eyes? Or Alkaline Trio? Or Thrice? Or Rancid??? So many influential and important artists were not included in an otherwise fabulous list and thus I’m going to have to disregard this allotment. I really do not think My Chem deserves two places.
1. At The Drive-In – “One Armed Scissor” – I love At the Drive-In, but I was never in love with them, especially this song. While I appreciate their infusion of ambiance and understand their cultural significance and impact on modern artists, I don’t know if they warrant the number one position. Musically, they are above many of their contemporaries, with an understanding of song construction that likens them back to psychedelic ’70s music and with that same post-punk neuroticism mastered by Thursday. I cannot deny their significance, but I would agree more with this award had I experienced that connection with them like I did other acts on this list or even the acts I mentioned that weren’t featured on this list. I like to think I have really good tastes, but they never captured my heart in the same fashion as other bands in this era.

Reading over my reflections on each song, it’s crazy to realize the impact music has on an individual and how certain songs or certain bands are symbiotic with precise moments in our lives. They remind us of times we came out triumphant and of times we couldn’t stop feeling lost. They give us hope when nothing else will and they make us feel like we belong when we feel lonely. They create community, they divide community, they have the power to make us want more out of life, to make us become better people, and also the power to destroy. Music allows us to see things and experience things we may not otherwise have and it allows us to reflect on life in an intelligent, intimate way. It can alter our moods from happy to sad, from sad to happy depending on the connotations it stirs up within each individual. It truly is one of the most powerful and beautiful of all creations.

_On Thursday we will all be sitting around our dinner tables with our families, giving thanks to wha

_On Thursday we will all be sitting around our dinner tables with our families, giving thanks to what we have, ready to eat ourselves into food comas. But for now, it’s time that we reflect on all the things that we really aren’t thankful for, so that those things we think of on Thursday are that much more sincere.

_In light of that, we at The Scene have come up with a few bands that we really, honestly, truly are not thankful for.

_Music We Aren’t Thankful For, 2009:

_ _The Beatles: Now don’t get us wrong. We enjoy listening to The Fab Four as much as anyone else, and we are still adamant that “Ticket To Ride” is their best song. But, The Beatles have become so commoditized that they’re basically on the same level of music as Christmas carols. There are so many different anthologies, best-ofs, remastered, naked and cover versions of The Beatles’ catalog that it’s actually kinda hard to find their original albums anymore. We just want to enjoy The Beatles for what they did, not for what everyone has done to them since.

_ _Fall Out Boy: Everyone I know who listens to the same style of music as us tells us that we would love Fall Out Boy. And every time we hear them there’s about five to ten seconds where we think they might be right until the disappointment sinks in. Fall Out Boy has, to our knowledge, only written three good songs, one per each of their first three CDs: “Dead on Arrival”, “Sugar We’re Going Down” and “Hum Hallelujah”. Since then the only really interesting thing they’ve done is get pictures of bassist Pete Wentz’s package leaked onto the internet.

_ _Jay-Z: Jay-Z is known as many things. Among them, he is one of the most successful rappers of all time, Beyonce’s wife and the Brett Favre of the rap industry. The guy just won’t stop. Since his “retirement” he has collaborated with Linkin Park for a mashup CD, done backup work on numerous singles by other artists and released two full-length albums. It’s like him and Favre have a bet going to see who can accomplish more after they announce their retirement. And we like Jay-Z, we really do, but we wish the guy would make up his mind. Either keep producing great music as a full-time member of the music industry, or retire and spend your time with Beyonce. Whichever he picks we kinda wish we were in his shoes, but please pick one or the other and stick with.

_That’s it for Music We Aren’t Thankful For 2009. Coming soon as an update to this post, our good friend The New Glitterati’s pick for the music that she really, honestly, truly is not thankful for.

_Keep listening, and we’ll see you next week.

- Kid

Baby seasons change but people don’t,
And I’m always be waiting in the backroom.
I’m boring but overcompensate with headlines
and flash, flash, flash photography

But don’t pretend you’ll ever forget about me.
Don’t pretend you’ll ever forget about me.

Wouldn’t you rather be a widow than a divorcee
Style your way for fashion magazines
Widow, or a divorcee
Don’t pretend d-d-d-d-don’t pretend

(We don’t fight fair. We don’t fight fair.)

Say your head can be a prison
and these are just conjugal visits.
People will dissect us till this
doesn’t mean a thing anymore.

Don’t pretend you’ll ever forget about me.
Don’t pretend you’ll ever forget about me.

wouldn’t you rather be a widow than a divorcee
Style your way for fashion magazines
Widow, or a divorcee
Don’t pretend d-d-d-d-don’t pretend

We do it in the dark
With smiles on our faces.
We’re trapped and well concealed in secret places.

Wo-oh

We do it in the dark
With smiles on our faces.
We’re trapped and well concealed in secret places.

We don’t fight fair. (We don’t fight fair.)
We don’t fight fair. (We don’t fight fair.)
We don’t fight fair.

We do it in the dark
With smiles on our faces.
We’re trapped and well concealed in secret places.

We don’t fight fair.

With smiles on our faces.

Album: From Under the Cork Tree
Release Date: May 3, 2005

It’d be easy for me to cut Fall Out Boy to pieces in this post, since it’s both the cool thing to do these days and it’d be in the context of this album, quite possibly their weakest one to date. But I won’t. Because I remember buying this album on CD in high school, when my family had a traditional Saturday morning trip to Borders (who still sold music at that time), and I remember liking it, and I remember a bunch of my friends being jealous of the fact that I had the album before they could get it (the exact reason why that was is lost on me). Yes, its paint-by-numbers pop-punk, but also remember that in 2005, Fall Out Boy were more or less the standard-bearers for the genre. Listening to the album now, it sounds terribly dated, and I have a feeling Fall Out Boy will be joining Lady Gaga and Twilight on that list of Things From The 2000s Whose Popularity No One Can Explain or Justify. But alas, it’s still a strange phenomenon I’m proud to have had in my lifetime, and I’ll keep blasting this album, judgment be damned.

The band have said they want to focus on other avenues and claim to not know the future of Fall Out Boy.

Pete Wentz this week told Kerrang! that he blames himself for the break because of his celebrity. For some time now Wentz has kept his name in the gossip pages whether it be from his marraige to Ashlee Simpson to his partying antics across various L.A nightclubs.

If Snow Patrol have demonstrated how not to make a greatest hits album then Fall Out Boy have releas

If Snow Patrol have demonstrated how not to make a greatest hits album then Fall Out Boy have released a very good example of how to do one. ‘Believers Never Die’ is a comprehensive yet cohesive album that traces the band’s career from their very first single up until the present-day. It has been organized chronologically which makes it easy and enjoyable to follow the group’s journey from pop punk upstarts to rock champions of sorts.

Fall Out Boy were one of the most important bands of the emo boom. Of course this was not emo as it once was, it was a watered down version for the post grunge generation. The songs on here from that early period sound exciting and you can see why the band became as popular as they did. Although the singles from their debut are not classics, the ones from its follow-up ‘From Under The Cork Tree’ are. ‘Sugar We’re Going Down’ and ‘Dance Dance’ were big hits at the time and for good reason, they are catchy, witty and great to jump along to.

The Band’s next album was more ambitious, combining the band’s ‘emo’ pop sound with strings, guitar solos and chart friendly melodies. It worked as this become their biggest commercial success and arguably their best album to date. The four songs that represent this album are all of a very high quality and keep the album rolling along very nicely until track ten. ‘This aint a scene’ and ‘Thanks For The Memmories’ were huge hits and they are probably the album’s defining moments, this was Fall Out Boys peak and it’s downhill from here.

After an awful cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat It’ we arrive at the songs from the band’s most recent record ‘Folie a Deux’, which was badly received by many on relea: from the quality of these songs it’s not hard to see why. ‘I Don’t Care’ was a stab at something bigger than anything they’d done but ultimately it doesn’t match the quality of their earlier singles. In fact the album from here on in is very forgettable, the bands new mainstream rock sound is dull and lifeless and doesn’t make for a good end to a greatest hits. New single ‘Alpha Dog’ in particular sounds like a Queen parody gone very wrong.

‘Believers Never Die’ is not a bad collection of songs, it certainly gathers all the band’s best singles if not all their best songs (‘Thriller is not included for example) and presents a good overview of Fall Out Boys career to date. They have always been a singles band so this is probably their most enjoyable album so far, and for people with a passing interest in so-called ‘emo’ (basically pop punk with eyeliner) this is the best place to start.

7.5/10

Im gonna make it bend and break,
They sent you to me without wings,
Say a prayer, but let the good times roll,
In case God doesn’t show,
Let the good times roll (Let the good times roll)
And I want these words to make things right,
But its the wrong’s that make the words come to life,
Who does he think he is?
If that’s the worst you’ve got,
Better put your fingers back to the key.

One night and one more time,
Thanks for the memories,
Even though they weren’t so great,
He tastes like you, only sweeter,
One night, yea, one more time,
Thanks for the memories,
Thanks for the memories,
See, he tastes like you, only sweeter.
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

Been looking forward to the future,
But my eyesight is going bad,
And this crystal ball is,
Always cloudy except for (except for),
When you look into the past (look into the past),
One night stand (One night stand, oh)

One night and one more time,
Thanks for the memories,
Even though they weren’t so great,
He tastes like you, only sweeter,
One night, yea, one more time,
Thanks for the memories,
Thanks for the memories,
See, he tastes like you, only sweeter.
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

They say I only think,
In the form of crunching numbers,
In hotel rooms, collecting Page Six lovers,
Get me out of my mind, and get you out of those clothes.
Im a liner away from getting you into the mood.
Woah-oh.

One night and one more time,
Thanks for the memories,
Even though they weren’t so great,
He tastes like you, only sweeter,
One night, (Woah) Yea (Woah) one more time,
Thanks for the memories,
Thanks for the memories,

Quem confirma a notícia é o baixista do grupo, Pete Wentz.
