A family story. My grandfather, Byron Morley Anderson died about a year before I was born, so I neve

A family story.

My grandfather, Byron Morley Anderson died about a year before I was born, so I never knew him. Even living with his eldest daughter Laurel from age 5 to 20 did little to enlighten me about his life. I suppose I have always been curious about who he was, so in 2007 I began to pursue that curiosity with effort.

Three coffee-table PictureBooks

I gathered up some old images that were a part of Laurels collection together with documents and papers that had short snippets about Byron (By). In 1977, just months before Laurel passed, I tape recorded an interview about her life and the life of her father. I remember thinking at the time that I should transcribe our conversation, but like so many other things in my life, I procrastinated.

In 2007 when I became re-interested, the recording technology had changed so drastically that I had a difficult time finding someone who could transfer the tape data to a CD so I could finally complete the transcription. With the transcribed document, I had a basic understanding just who By was. I was able chronologically to piece together his whereabouts from his boyhood home in Manti, Utah to a variety of family residences in southern Idaho.

What was my goal?

I knew when I began snooping into By’s past that I wanted to end up with a book, a PictureBook that was an illustrated story of his life insofar as I could ascertain. It was an adventure for me, but, disappointingly it turned out to be more about where he was than who he was. I did come to know his children better, particularly a daughter Maurine, who lost her life when a tire blew out in a car she was a passenger in causing it to roll over her when she was tossed out.

New Zealand Memories

I put the words and pictures into an attractive coffee-table album style PictureBook so that when someone asks, “what about By” I can let them read all about him. I gave a copy to my mother and to my cousin.

The idea of having a family members history all together in a book, inspired me to do similar PictureBooks on my dad and my father-in-law. I have also done PictureBooks on grand children’s graduations from high school-each one preserving their unique story.

The city of Jacksonville is excited that we are having this event on the square, and the event is going to be fun for families and children.

We want to embrace the public to make them understand the reasons we need to stop the destruction that we see today, and education is just the key to end that destruction in the future. We need volunteers to make the event a success. We will need drumming, story telling, dancing, muscians, or any talent that you can bring and share.

At this point, any and all suggestions are welcome. We are setting a goal of February 28th as the date that we have people together so that we have a few weeks to get the schedule together. All interested parties may send an e-mail to the administrators of this site. We are really excited about this great opportunity, and we know that we can all make a difference for the future.

(I told Isaac, my grandson, that I’d post a picture of Papa’s new truck. We bought it yesterday in Grand Rapids and on the way home it broke down. It’s sitting in a trucker’s parking lot waiting for the original mechanic to look at it tomorrow. Apparently a seal broke and blew out a spark plug. Friends and family, please pray we can get it fixed tomorrow so he can start using it for his delivery route. Without a truck, his job will be given to another. God is able!)

So you’re coming to Vegas, or you live here…. Lots to do on Saturday night!

Tonight there’s a lot going on that will make you feel sexy. Believe it party people.

While some Americans are saving their pennies for the super bowl coming up, those of you here for a conference or just to get away and don’t give a damned about the SB, are in for a special treat!

The best thing about Vegas is if you are here for the casinos and fabulous palaces, you don’t have to worry about any weather issues. The properties are as large as most city blocks, you are safe indoors and never have to get a burst of air if you so choose. Not to mention they are attached and you can visit many properties joined at the hip- literally. This is a nice time to come because it’s not that cold. Hit or miss it might rain, not a lot of rain so a jacket will suffice.

If you are here for the great outdoors, dress warm. It does get into the 40’s, colder in the mountains and in the desert for the bikers and hikers and definitely on the lake.

Personally, I’m staying in tonight! Lots to research and write about so you have a great weekend and week!

BTW, Those of you who are not going to Super Bowl and decided to join us in Vegas instead will get lots of great info on where to go to watch the game and participate in all the fun stuff we have planned right here!!

Kisses

There were many photos taken that I am sure we would all like to see. I thought it would be nice to get everyone to put their photos in one place.

Here are the photos I have received so far. If you have some of your own you would like to share please email them to baddock.family@gmail.com

The family that was up spent the evening catching up over a nice relaxing dinner.

Hudson posed with his gifts for a photo shoot

Hudson was pretty pleased with two more sets of Trio Blocks from Aunt Katie, Aaron and Grammie Jones

Of course Aunt Juju who’s away to college on Florida didn’t forget her little guy’s b’day

Hudson had to shoot everyone with Grammie’s noisy laser gun/sword

Isaac waited fairly patiently for his gift from Grammie – a genuine spy set. Even daddy joined the game.

April and G’ma Woodward made the train cake.

Hudson had no trouble knowing what to do with that cake!

Apparently Hudson felt he needed to mop Katie’s floor again.

My mom, the boys, and I have spent this week in Wausau. Yesterday we celebrated Jacob and Levi’s 18th birthday at Katie’s new apartment and tonight we are celebrating Hudson’s 2nd birthday. My desire to sell our house and move here has doubled with each visit, both because I’d like to be able to see them any time I want and because I would like to have Mark here with me. Anybody need/want to buy a big house in the country?
