Ola pessoal,  gostaria de colocar um vídeo muito interessante para os fãs de Senhor dos Anéis. O filme é “The Hunt for Gollum“. Com um orçamento baixíssimo, porém com ótima qualidade foi feito por fãs de Tolkien, retratando a caçada de Aragorn por Gollum a pedido de Gandalf. O filme tem duração de 40 minutos.

Muitos devem estar se perguntando, mas onde acontece essa história? Então, lembrando um pouco do primeiro filme do Senhor dos Anéis a Sociedade do anel. Lembram quando Gandalf deixou Frodo tomando conta do Anel logo depois de Bilbo ir embora, e depois volta para começar a aventura toda (no filme é muito rápido, mas na historia do livro dura 12 anos), é neste meio tempo que acontece o filme intitulado “The Hunt for Gollum”. No filme, durante todo esse tempo (12 anos) eles ficaram caçando Gollum para evitar que ele fosse pego por Sauron e contasse que o Anel estava no condado.

Quem dirige o filme é Chris Bouchard que tem em seu currículo outro fan-film divertidinho: Star Wars – Revelations, lançado em 2005.

El director Fran Casanova.

Actor, guionista, director, camarógrafo, doble de Leonardo Sbaraglia… el polifacético Fran Casanova es uno de los creadores más conocidos y seguidos de la Red. Su pasión por el cine y su sueño por triunfar como director le han llevado a realizar sus propios cortos casi de manera autodidacta y a trasmitir el fenómeno fan film por medios de comunicación de toda España. RNE, Canal+, Telemadrid, El País, Fotogramas y un largo etcétera le han entrevistado sobre este subgénero, nacido en Internet, en el que los fans reinterpretan a sus personajes favoritos del celuloide. Su último fan film, Indiana Jones y la Búsqueda del Ídolo Perdido, acaba de ganar el primer premio en el Tri-City Independent / Fan Film Festival  celebrado en Richland (EEUU). Los autores de este blog conocimos a Casanova hace cinco años, cuando trabajábamos para el periódico universitario El Rotativo. En una entrevista en un McDonalds de la capital Casanova se mostró tan entusiasmado por sus películas como hoy en día. Años más tarde le entrevisté para el programa La luna, de la Cadena COPE. Y como no hay dos sin tres, volvemos a hablar con Fran Casanova para preguntarle por sus proyectos más inmediatos.

Pregunta: Antes de nada, enhorabuena por el premio, ¿qué supone para ti este nuevo reconocimiento?

Respuesta: Es un premio bastante importante, el festival es bastante conocido. Había veinte cortos seleccionados que eran bastante buenos. Es una referencia, ya que un corto basado en una película no puede recibir ninguna compensación económica por el tema del copyright.  Pero fueron ellos los que se pudieron en contacto conmigo a raíz del estreno de mi corto en la Comic-Con de Nueva York.  La verdad es que el movimiento fan ha quedado muy satisfecho  con el resultado.  Yo siempre he tenido la suerte de conectar con el público y lograr que pasen un buen rato.

P: ¿Lo consideras el mejor de tus cuatro fan films sobre Indiana Jones?

R: Sin duda. Es el más completo, sobre todo en el aspecto de producción: hay más localizaciones, hay más atrezzo… Pero la forma sigue siendo exactamente la misma que cuando en el año 99 hice el primer corto (Indiana Jones y el tesoro oculto): rodar con el mismo grupo de amigos de siempre.

P: ¿Cómo empezaste en el mundo de los fan film?

R: Pues rodando ese corto (Indiana Jones y el tesoro oculto). Yo no había estudiado ni leído nada, sólo había visto mucho cine. Soy un gran admirador de Steven Spielberg , me encanta el género de aventuras y creo que Indiana Jones en una figura iconográfica en el género. Quería hacer un homenaje personal a su gran trabajo. Cuando yo lo lancé, fue el primer corto de Indy en Internet. Recuerdo que también estaba Troops, un corto de Star Wars sobre las tropas de asalto con un humor negro tipo Cops. Y a raíz de ese corto el género fan film fue creciendo y hoy en día tienes fan films de todo y muy currados.

P: ¿Te da miedo que los fan films te acaben encasillando?

R: La verdad que no. En todo caso, me han dado bastante a conocer. Siempre he intentado que sean cortos bastante fieles a las películas, no he hecho cosas paródicas. He hecho nuevas aventuras de Indiana Jones. Y la gente ha captado el espíritu de las películas clásicas en los cortos y tienen bastante respeto con el resultado.

P: ¿Qué percepción tienen de ti y de tu trabajo el resto de directores de cortos en España? ¿Ven los fan films como una excentricidad?

R: A mí me preocupa más el público que la gente de mi gremio. Es el público el que va a pagar mis películas y el que las va a disfrutar. Yo intento alejarme del tema este del artista. Creo que el arte es muy amplio y da cabida a todos. Lo que es importante son las cosas bien hechas, da igual que sea una película intimista de autor que una de ciencia ficción.

P: ¿Sientes que haces un cine alejado de los estándares del cine español?

R: La verdad es que me siento un poco en el país equivocado. Mucha gente me lo ha dicho. Pero está bien intentar que aquí se hagan otras cosas. A veces me siento un poco luchando contracorriente, pero recibes la energía de la gente y tiras para delante.

P: Además de Indy, te has atrevido con Star Wars (Jedi: Forjando su destino) y El Señor de los Anillos (La pesadilla de Frodo). ¿Qué otros universos cinéfilos te gustaría tocar en el futuro?

R: Hice éstas porque soy un gran fan de las películas. Me gustaría acabar dirigiendo u na película de Batman, Spiderman o Flash. He coleccionado sus cómics desde pequeñito.

P: ¿Alguna vez Lucas Arts ha contactado contigo a raíz de tus cortos?

R: Ellos tienen constancia de mi trabajo, y lo sé por medio de su abogado.

P: Hablemos de tus trabajos más personales. En el corto Merry Christmas la protagonista es la conocida Pilar Rubio. ¿Cómo surgió su colaboración?

R: Fue porque Pedro Martín, el otro actor del corto y amigo mío de toda la vida, trabajó con ella en un spot para una marca de gasolinas en Italia.  Cuando yo hice el guión, él me comentó lo de Pilar. Yo le mandé mis anteriores trabajos y el guión, y ella aceptó encantada. Se portó genial, es muy sencilla y muy currante. Y eso que se rodó en Navidades y hacía muchísimo frío. Fueron cuatro noches de rodaje.

P: Además, rodaste en blanco y negro…

R: El corto es mi homenaje a las películas de suspense de los 50. Por eso es en blanco y negro, y por eso ella tiene ese look en el vestuario y en el maquillaje.

P: También has hecho tus pinitos en el mundo del videoclip para el grupo Delco. El videoclip, para la canción Sara, recuerda un poco a la serie Perdidos…

R: Sí, la gente lo dice. Cuando hice el videoclip la serie estaba comenzando. Soy muy fan de la serie, pero la verdad es que no la tome como referencia. Fue el bajista el que me propuso hacer el videoclip, dejándome libertad absoluta. La canción me inspiró la idea de esta persona que naufraga en una isla e intenta salir para adelante dejando atrás su pasado para buscar una nueva vida.

P: Tú último proyecto es Campo de batalla, el primer corto en el que has conseguido el apoyo de una productora (Carisma Films). ¿Cómo conseguiste la financiación?

R: La fórmula que he usado siempre, que es la de yo me lo guiso todo, no podía hacerla con Campo de batalla porque es un producto mucho más delicado y quería un acabado lo más profesional posible. Y para esto necesitaba un equipo y dinero. Entonces decidí presentar el guión en la escuela de cine donde había estudiado, Séptima Ars. Les propuse que fueran la productora del corto y que alumnos y profesores formaran el equipo técnico. Y ahí empezó todo. Luego se unió Carisma Films.

P: ¿Qué nos puedes adelantar de Campo de batalla?

R: El corto ya está montado y creo que va a funcionar bastante bien en festivales. He intentado que fuera mucho más personal que mis anteriores trabajos. He ahondado más en el guión. Pero no quiero contar nada porque hay que ver el corto sabiendo lo menos posible de qué va. Sólo decir que el protagonista es un soldado republicano que está atacando una trinchera nacional, y en esta trinchera se percata de que hay un niño. Mi intención es que el espectador se sienta parte de ese grupito de soldados que aparece al principio. La acción se ve siempre desde dentro de ese grupo, no desde fuera. Es un corto con muchísima carga dramática.

P: ¿Qué esperas de Campo de batalla?

R: Yo espero que sea un punto de inflexión en mi carrera. Imagina pasar del corto de Indy, que éramos cuatro personas, a más de 50 en el equipo técnico de Campo de batalla. El corto es muy completo y espero que a quien lo vea le haga pensar y le deje cosas por dentro.

P: Por último, ¿para cuándo un largo?

R: Tengo unas posibles productoras interesados en un guión en el que trabajamos Pedro Martín y yo.  Es una película de miedo, ahora que el terror está bastante de moda. Es una historia con la que estoy muy contento y que tiene un enfoque muy original.

I don’t know about you but I love fan films. I hate having to wait two or three years before being able to see the squeal. Some of these fan films I wish could and will be turned into movies. I’m sure if we promote one enough though someone will decide it’s just good enough to be produced.

So I would like to hold a World’s Greatest Fan Film Competition, I’ll go ahead and start it off with three of my personal favorites. I’ll add more as I come across the good ones. O Lobo é um personagem legal. Um dos poucos personagens de quadrinhos que realmente podem ser acusados de banalização da violência, já que suas estorias, que são sempre comicas, tem no banho de sangue e nos membros arrancados seus principais atributos.

Este filme, uma produção independente, é baseado na clássica HQ, Lobo Versus Papai Noel (Lobo Paramilitary Chistmas Special, de 1991), de autoria de Keith Giffen, Alan Grant e Simon Bisley, lançada no Brasil em 1999 pela editora Metal Pesado. A trama é muito simples: Lobo é contratado por um ciumento Coelhinho da Páscoa para matar o Papai Noel. Ao chegar no QG do bom velhinho, Lobo descobre que o lugar é muito mais protegido do que se poderia esperar da residencia do Papai Noel.

Com seus pouco mais de 13 minutos, Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special capta bem a essencia do Lobo, muito bem interpretado por Andrew Briniarski que, com a tradicional maquiagem do Lobo, fica parecendo um membro do Kiss.

Com boas interpretaçõeses, bom figurino e baseado em uma das estorias mais famosas do personagem, Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special é um curta bem legal. E o melhor, é de grátis.

I haven’t actually seen too many Star Wars fan films online lately. Whether that’s due to a drop in popularity or that anyone who’s making a fan film nowadays is looking to make a pretty professional job of it.

It certainly seems the latter is the case with ‘Makazie One’, a gritty action film that has some pretty decent effects. The acting as with most is fairly amateur but it manages to convey the message successfully.

That is all…

Not really…

I saw the trailer for this a long while ago and thought the idea behind it was cool. A fan film, feature length at that, based on the Metal Gear Solid franchise, if I had the money and the time, I’d do it myself (I’ve discussed this in great detail with a dear friend, along with my plans for a Zelda movie, but that is fodder for another day, and The Hero of Time has already premiered).  MGS: Philanthropy is very well done. I just finished watching the film; it is worth a view. The makers are obviously dedicated fans, and there are a few nods to the games that are nifty. Overall, the piece is solid and is about as faithful a movie adaption a nerd could hope for.

The film takes place during the years of Philanthropy’s operations. For those not in know, Philanthropy is the name of an underground organization founded by hero of the game franchise and his otaku/haxor sidekick, Solid Snake and Otacon respectively. According to canon, after the events of Metal Gear Solid, Snake went back into retirement, only to use all that spare time to track down, destroy, and otherwise prevent the manufacture and operation of metal gears, the bipedal, often nuclear, tanks for which the series is named. This fan film takes some liberties with the mostly undocumented activities between Metal Gear Solid and Sons of Liberty and places Snake on an infiltration mission into some random near Middle Eastern hole-in-the-wall, or rather, blithe-on-the-map. He is joined by two new members, recruited by some diplomat that happens to also be a member of the merry Philanthropist group, and their mission is to rescue this diplomat’s father – a Senator no less.

Of course, it doesn’t take long for things to turn out to be more than what they seem and many questions are raised, and none get answered. Why? Well this project seems to be broken into parts. Part one is out now; part two I assume is on the way. Maybe.

In any event, the film works more than it doesn’t. The sound and picture quality are high, though the vocal mix is a little hot and is off sync in few scenes. The titles and many of the visual effects are fantastic, very professional looking. Not to say that they aren’t professional, but this isn’t a licensed, studio film. it was made by fans – most likely for fans. I don’t think Konami or Kojima Productions – let alone Kojima-san himself – will be taking much action on this, if any. It’s free promotion for their awesome games. Plus, the mythos has been expanded in an Alt-U fashion that carry fan interest in-between canon titles – like Rising, which, according to an interview I skimmed over in the latest issue GamePro yesterday, is still on the drawing board basically. How exactly do you officially announce a title, but NOT EVEN HAVE A GAME YET? Really, this makes all the anticipation I had for Rising just slip away.

I’m just saying… MGS4was at least announced with a real trailer…

What if Raiders of the Lost Ark was a 50s film serial? Who would be best suited for the role of Indiana Jones? How would his villains translate to this era? What would the film’s musical score sound like?

Thankfully, since George Lucas and Steven Spielberg created Raiders as a homage to classic serials, these questions are easily answered. Both directors have acknowledged that specific films influenced key sequences across all four Indiana Jones films. I tried my best piece these films together and create a loose narrative. I hope you enjoy this homage to “Raiders” and the many great films that inspired it.

This “pre-make” is a mash-up of old trailers and clips found all over Youtube. It is not endorsed or connected to Paramount Pictures or Lucasfilm. It was made as a purely technical exercise and for laughs. Here is the recipe:

Ok, now that Episode One is out and we get prepared for Episode Two we’ve got a lot of cool stuff coming up. I want to talk about the Superheroine / Supergirl / Ubergirl genre away from NGC. What are other people doing in the mainstream and in the fan made area? I’m going to explore some of the themes and some of the great videos, scenes, and artwork that is out there. Should be fun!

Just after Christmas I resigned myself to the idea that I was going to make a film of some kind. What I knew was that I didn’t have a lot of money, I didn’t have anyone to shoot it, and I didn’t know what it would be about other than involving women in superheroine costumes.

It was clear from budget constraints that we could not have an ensemble cast for this one, so I soon resolved that it would be a guy and a girl. I had to make it interesting for myself so there needed to be a reason for them being in the scene and have it lead somewhere, but before I got deep into plot my first concern was character ideas. I had previously thought about running a site on the basis of 5 heroines, each with a different look and power. Costume-wise that translated that one might wear blue, another white, one in a Xena style Greek warrior outfit, another in pink/red, another in green. Pretty simple. This was all a bit thin but it was how I was working. I would need to introduce them individually so the one that came first was simply the one whose powers I narrowed down quickest.

At that time this character was called ‘Force Girl’ and I designed her costume, and it looked like this:

I quite liked that, it had a police-style look. Soon after though I was informed that this was a rubbish name for a heroine and they may have been right, I’m sure it’s pretty subjective. I developed this character to have a power punch or an energy punch, something which she either built up to for knocking out enemies or something she could use quickly but only had a finite amount of or she would collapse in exhaustion. So, not Force Girl, so Energy Girl? Useless, Power Girl (been done), Powerstar? I quite liked that, had an other worldly quality to it. Force Girl could potentially live at the end of your street but Powerstar wouldn’t, she’d need some kind of base in the sky… much better. I altered the costume design to fit this name. Chest emblem changed from the slightly unnerving Black Panther style fist to a 5-Point Star, add a double-sided cape and make those boots thigh-highs. Now all I needed to do was find someone to make it. Cost was important but in the end not more important than quality. I’d looked at places who could do a job reasonably cheaply but all of their models were rather thick-set to put it mildly so I had no idea if they had the skills of cutting to fit. Also the seams were not perfect. In the end I plumped for a company in Amsterdam who had done various costume dramas. I got a quote. The quote was roughly the same as the budget I’d ear-marked for the entire film, but I paid it anyway. This is the design I sent:

I was delighted with the quality of the work but the most daunting thing now was that this film was actually going to be made. It needed to be made as I’d just spent a fortune on a costume for it, however I had no idea about what we would shoot other than it be a fight. Nobody yet to play the role, nobody to shoot it, nowhere to shoot it, and no particular story idea about why this fight was taking place. Could I do it before going bankrupt? Episode 1 – COMING SOON

Olá. Com um pequeno atraso, chega mais uma edição da Banca (é o programa 37 mesmo, não 38 como noticiei errado aqui). No primeiro bloco desse programa, recebemos no estúdio o ilustrador Orlando, organizador da publicação “Dez na área, um na banheira e ninguém no gol”. Também conversamos com a Editora Via Lettera, responsável pela publicação e com a presidente da APEOESP (A Associação dos Professores do Estado de São Paulo) pra saberem o que pensam dessa polêmica da hq escolhida equivocadamente pelo Governo de SP para a 3ª série do ensino fundamental. O assunto repercutiu muito e vimos grandes bobagens sendo ditas na grande mídia.

No segundo bloco, recebemos o grande Capitão Marvel em nosso estúdio e mostramos pra você o que é o WCS e etapa JBC Brasil desse evento. Imperdível!
