This paraphrase of Joseph Stalin’s dismissive comment about the Pope’s power and authority strikes me as a relevant question today, when Congressional hearings are beginning to lift a corner of the veil of secrecy that conceals the disaster in Benghazi.  The question will remain relevant tomorrow as, hopefully, Congress again begins to act as a co-equal branch of government and will launch hearings to uncover the facts behind Fast & Furious and other acts of governmental malpractice committed by the Obama administration.

What worries me is that the Obama administration has not “played well” with Congress.  If Congressional decisions thwart Obama, they are scorned or bypassed, to the maximum extent possible.  Typically, when Eric Holder was held in contempt of Congress for withholding information about Fast & Furious, he simply shrugged it off.  No remorse at all.

And so I wonder…

The Executive has lots of raw power available to it to compel obedience: the military, the various law enforcement organs, etc. etc.  Lots of divisions, in other words.

But, figuratively speaking, how many divisions does Congress have?  What if a Congressional committee summons a high-ranking member of the Executive Branch and/or that member’s documents, and that individual simply blows them off?  What if Congress votes to censure or impeach someone in the Executive, and that someone fails to take them seriously?  In other words, what if members of the Executive Branch decide that the rule of law no longer applies to them or theirs?  And what if the Executive Branch decides it is time for a quiet putsch?

What does Congress do then?  Send a posse of Congressional pages to arrest the malfeasants?

And so I ask again: how many divisions does Congress have?

WHO IS GIVING WHITE HOUSE ORDERS TO CBS NEWS ON BENGHAZI?

” With reports suggesting that CBS News brass is unhappy with reporter Sheryl Attkisson for her focus on the White House’s actions surrounding the Benghazi attacks of September 11, 2012, new questions are being raised about the relationship between CBS News and the Obama administration. According to the Washington Post:

[Attkisson] says she has received “a tremendous amount of pushback” from the White House as a result of her reporting on Benghazi and Fast and Furious. Among other things, she says, White House officials have called and written her bosses at CBS to complain about her work. She says she doesn’t find that unusual or even disturbing.”

Before Breaking Bad Paul began his career appearing in the odd episode of television series’ like NYPD Blue, ER and Veronica Mars and he did appear in a few films, although nothing really ground breaking: Mission Impossible III, The Last House on the Left. Breaking Bad thrust him into the limelight and his acting has earned him rave reviews as well as the achievement of winning 2 Primetime Emmys as well as being nominated for another. Aaron Paul’s acting is incredibly intense and I really do enjoy watching him in Breaking Bad. With Bryan Cranston getting supporting roles in a number of Hollywood films it shouldn’t take long to see Paul star in some either. In fact it’s already beginning…

This year Paul has 3 films out, 2 with a limited release to America have already been released and not caused any real waves but his next two projects seem like they could make his movie career. The first is an adaptation of Nick Hornby (About a Boy, An Education) novel A Long Way Down. This is a drama about four people who happen to meet on New Year’s Eve when they all separately plan to throw themselves off a building to their death; instead, they form a surrogate family and help each other through their problems. Paul will be alongside the likes of Rosamund Pike and Piers Brosnan here and A Long Way Down will certainly find an audience which will mean that Paul will get noticed for his sure to be great dramatic performance: he thrives with drama in Breaking Bad and I think if he followed the drama route in his film roles he could win an Oscar later in his career.

Although, Paul could go down the path of becoming an action star. Next year an adaptation of the video game series Need for Speed is going to be released and Aaron Paul is to be the star. I’m not sure how Need for Speed will go down with the Fast & Furious franchise getting stronger with every installment.

Can Aaron Paul pull an audience on his own though? I don’t think so. There will be a lot of people (like me) who would go and see a film just to see Aaron Paul and Breaking Bad has obviously had a lot of recognition so could serve as one of the best platforms ever to launch a Hollywood career. One good role could see Paul become one of the most sought after men on the planet. Need for Speed could do that depending on how it is handled.

With the growing impact of comic book movies on the movie industry I think Paul would benefit from joining Marvel’s cinematic universe. I have previously expressed my desire to see him cast in the Fantastic Four reboot as Human Torch but I would love to see him get a part that would be a guaranteed hit. On the other hand though, I would love to see Aaron Paul get the career he deserves on his merit alone; he is one of the finest actors I have ever seen in a television show and I always thoroughly enjoy him on screen. I look forward to seeing what’s next for him.

POLITICO – The second Goliath is CBS News, which has grown increasingly frustrated with Attkisson’s Benghazi campaign. CBS News executives see Attkisson wading dangerously close to advocacy on the issue, network sources have told POLITICO. Attkisson can’t get some of her stories on the air, and is thus left feeling marginalized and underutilized. That, in part, is why Attkisson is in talks to leave CBS ahead of contract, as POLITICO reported in April.

Farhi mentions “internal conflicts” in the final paragraph, though he seems to dismiss them. The “internal conflicts” are indeed real — Attkisson is still eyeing an exit, according to sources — and provide important context for today’s piece. Today, CBS News is celebrating Attkisson’s commitment to the Benghazi story. It’s good press. But that support is an aberration.

Amazing. If CBS News execs think her reporting is advocacy, then the liberal bias has never been any clearer. A stunning revelation, actually.

But hey, if CBS News believes it’s advocacy who is there to argue with them? Everyone on the left will just fall in line like they always do. It’s not about good journalism and speaking truth to power. Hasn’t been about that in a long time. It’s about the good guys vs the bad guys, and Democrats are the good guys. Or there’s another word for it.

Propaganda.

Maybe Fox News needs another good reporter. But then that’s probably what CBS News wants to happen, so they can say Attkisson is with the wingnuts where she belongs. Well who cares. I don’t watch CBS News anyway.

Justin Lin‘s Fast and Furious 6 takes places mostly within London, giving the film a slightly grubby edge which is refreshing, compared to the high gloss of some of the earlier Fast films. Londoners will enjoy seeing the cast race through the streets of the capital on unreasonably quiet roads, and the sights of London provide a new, if cluttered, back drop to the film. Vin Diesel‘s impossibly gravelly voice thunders through the cinema and his muscular stature pales in comparison to the frankly vast arms of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson whose role as Hobbs, Police Chief brings a new aspect to the unruly but loveable rogues that make up the Fast gang.

Fast 6 sees the return of the gorgeous Michelle Rodriguez as Letty, in a miraculous return after her supposed death. It was heavily emphasised at the World Premiere in London’s Leicester Square last night that her return was a decision based on the fans desire to see her back. Given that The Fast and Furious franchise is largely focused on speed and guns, it is in some ways reassuring to know the fans invest emotionally, as well as dribbling over the cars and huge action sequences. Speaking of action, there is absolutely no shortage of it within Fast and Furious 6, every time you think a chase or fight can’t get any bigger they manage to one up themselves resulting in two enormous action sequences at the climax of the film. Despite all this, I did find myself getting a bit emotional, proving that even in a movie so seemingly bullish in nature, there is a heart. My favourite performance came from Sung Kang as Han, his humour, emotion and cheeky grin gave his character a surprising depth that I wasn’t expecting to see in this kind of film.

A cameo appearance by London musician Rita Ora sticks out like a sore thumb, which is saying something given the ridiculous nature of some of the stunts in this film. If you like your movies action packed with car chases, shoot outs, fights and cliches then you will absolutely love Fast and Furious 6. Make sure you stay to the end for a teaser for Fast 7 and one of my guilty pleasures in terms of action stars makes a little appearance!
