મેદસ્વીપણું દૂર કરતા યોગાસન – Loose weight by Yoga

મેદસ્વીપણું એ આધુનિક યુગની તંદુરસ્તીને લગતી સૌથી મોટી સમસ્યા છે અને તે ઘણાં ગંભીર અને જીવલેણ રોગોનું મુખ્ય કારણ છે. મેદસ્વીતાને કારણે બ્લડ પ્રેશર, હૃદયની બિમારીઓ, ડાયાબિટીસ જેવી બિમારીઓ ઘર કરે છે. બાળપણમાં પૂરતું ધ્યાન ના અપાયું હોય, તો શરીરનું વજન ક્રમશઃ વધવા માંડે છે. સમય જતાં વજન ઘણું જ વધી જાય છે. પ્રમાણસર આહાર, વ્યવસ્થિત જીવનશૈલી અને નિયમિતપણે યોગાસન કરવાથી મેદસ્વીપણાથી કાયમી છૂટકારો મેળવી શકાય છે. એટલું જ નહીં, ઉપર જણાવેલા દરદો પણ મટી શકે છે. યોગાસનથી તમામ પ્રકારની બિમારીઓમાં ઘણી રાહત મળે છે. મેદ ઉતારવાના કેટલાંક આસન અહીં આપવામાં આવ્યા છેઃ

દ્વિચક્રિકાસન

પદ્ધતિ

૧. જમીન પર ચત્તા સૂઈ જાઓ. એક પગ ઊંચો કરીને સાઇકલ ચલાવતા હોવ તેવી રીતે તેને ફેરવો. આવું ૧૦થી ૩૦ વખત કરો. ત્યાર પછી બીજો પગ ઉઠાવીને તેવી રીતે ફેરવો. પગ ફેરવતી વખતે તે પણ જમીનને ના અડકે તેનું ધ્યાન રાખવું.

૨. થાક લાગે, તો પગ જમીન ઉપર રાખીને થોડો આરામ કરવો અને આ એક્સરસાઇઝ ઊંધી દિશામાં કરવી. જો થાક લાગે, તો ફરીથી થોડો આરામ કરી લેવો.

૩. પહેલાં વારાફરતી પગ ફેરવ્યા પછી બંને પગ સાથે સાઇકલ ચલાવતા હોવ તેવી રીતે ફેરવવા. થોડી વાર પછી અવળી દિશામાં ફેરવવા. આવું તમારી શક્તિ અનુસાર પાંચથી ૧૦ વખત કરવું.

લાભઃ ૧. વજન ઉતારવા માટેની આ શ્રેષ્ઠ કસરત છે. આ આસન નિયમિતપણે પાંચથી દસ મિનિટ સુધી કરવાથી બિનજરુરી ચરબી દૂર થાય છે અને વજન ઝડપથી ઘટે છે.

૨. આ આસન કરવાથી પેટની ચરબી દૂર થાય છે અને પેટ સુડોળ બને છે. મરડો, કબજિયાત અને એસિડિટી જેવા દરદો દૂર થાય છે.

૩. પીઠના દુખાવાની સમસ્યા હોય તેમણે આ એક્સરસાઇઝ બંને પગ એકસાથે રાખીને કરવી નહીં. વારાફરતી એક-એક પગથી કસરત કરવી. આમ કરવાથી પીઠના દુખાવામાં પણ રાહત મળશે.

પાદવૃત્તાસન

પદ્ધતિ

૧. જમીન પર ચત્તા સૂઈ જાવ. જમણો પગ ઊંચો કરો અને પગને ઘડિયાળની માફક ગોળાકાર ફેરવો. પગને જમીન પર અડકાડયા વિના પાંચથી ૨૦ વખત આ કસરત કરો.

૨. એક દિશામાં ફેરવ્યા પછી દિશા બદલો. વચ્ચે થાક લાગે ત્યારે પગ જમીન ઉપર રાખીને આરામ કરી લેવો. ત્યાર પછી બીજો પગ ઉઠાવીને આ કસરત કરવી.

૩. એક-એક પગે આ કસરત કરી લીધા પછી બંને પગ સાથે રાખીને આ કસરત કરવી. બંને પગ સાથે બને તેટલું મોટું ગોળ બનાવવું. એક દિશામાં ફેરવી લીધા બાદ બંને પગને સાથે રાખીને બીજી દિશામાં ફેરવવા.

લાભઃ ૧. આ આસન પણ વજન ઘટાડવામાં મદદરુપ બને છે.

૨. આ આસન કરવાથી ખાસ કરીને નિતંબ, સાથળ અને કમર ઉપર જમા થયેલી વધારાની ચરબી દૂર થાય છે અને પેટ સુડોળ બને છે.

અર્ધ હલાસન

પદ્ધતિ

આ આસન ઉત્તાનપાદાસન જેવું જ છે, ફરક માત્ર એટલો છે કે ઉત્તાનપાદાસનમાં પગ ૩૦ ડિગ્રીએ ઊંચા કરવામાં આવે છે, જ્યારે અર્ધ હલાસનમાં બંને પગ ૯૦ ડિગ્રીએ ઊંચા કરવામાં આવે છે.

૧. જમીન ઉપર ચત્તા સૂઈ જાવ. બંને હાથને શરીર સાથે સીધા જમીન પર અડાડી રાખો અને હથેળી જમીન પર રાખવી. બંને પગને સીધા અને એકબીજાની નજીક રાખો.

૨. શ્વાસ લઈને હળવેકથી બંને પગને જમીન પરથી ઉઠાવીને ૯૦ ડિગ્રી સુધી લઈ જાવ અને આ પોઝિશન થોડા સમય સુધી જાળવી રાખો. પગ ઊંચા કરતી વખતે તે ઢીંચણથી વળી ના જાય તેનું ધ્યાન રાખવું.

૩. પછી હળવેકથી પગ નીચા લાવવા. આમ કરતી વખતે આંચકો ના લાગે તેનું ધ્યાન રાખવું. પગ જમીન પર લાવ્યા પછી થોડો આરામ કરવો. આવું છ વખત કરવું.

૪. પીઠનો દુખાવો હોય તેવી વ્યક્તિઓએ એક જ પગ ઉઠાવીને આ કસરત કરવી. એક પગની કસરત કરી લીધા બાદ તેને જમીન પર મૂકી દીધા બાદ બીજા પગે આ કસરત કરવી.

લાભઃ
૧. વજન ઘટાડવામાં આ આસન મદદરુપ છે.

૨. કબજિયાત, ગેસની ફરિયાદ દૂર થાય છે.

૩. નાભિ ખસતી હોય તેવી સમસ્યા માટે આ આસન લાભદાયી છે. ઉપરાંત, હૃદયની બિમારીઓ, પેટનો દુખાવો તેમજ શ્વાસોચ્છવાસની બિમારીમાં પણ રાહત મળે છે.

૪. પીઠના દુખાવામાં એક જ પગે કસરત કરવી લાભદાયી છે.

Two years ago I lost 50 lbs. It wasn’t the first time, and I’m hoping that it won’t be the last. Every couple of years I find the willpower to successfully diet until the point of almost being satisfied with my weight until some life style interruption takes place throws me off track. At thirteen it was high school. At seventeen it was college. At twenty is was going away to college. At twenty-four it was taking a third shift job. After these shifts take place I am able to maintain my weight for so long until I plummet into a free fall.
In this particular case the free fall started when I realized that I was going back to school. I was so stressed about things not working out again this time around that I completely neglected dieting and fell back into my old habit of using food to comfort me. And before I know it I was once again cringing as I walked by a mirror and buying a new larger sized wardrobe. In the last few weeks I’ve hit a new low, other people are making it clear that I’ve let myself go.
I know that I am not ready to fix this situation. I am too worried about too many other things in my life and would rather push it off until I can work another shift after school ends. I just wish that I could live with myself, but I can’t. I know that I’m fat. I just don’t want other people to see me that way, because when they do I’m not a girl whose overweight, I’m a fat girl. And to be a fat girl in this society is like being a leper. I know I have many other negative traits that people pick on me for, but I can handle being criticized for anything else as long as they don’t bring up my size. If it could only be a characteristic I could live with myself, but it becomes an identity.
There are very few positive images of overweight women in this world. Usually were just the but of some one’s joke. I know that there are people out there who are strong enough to rise above this, who can force others to see them as something other than just another large women. I just wish I could be like them. The more I weigh the weaker I become. I grow eager to please people and horrified what anyone may think of me. I grow horrified of coming off as anything else negative with my size already stacked against me. I so badly want them to see beyond my weight, but I feel like they can’t see me beyond the fluff. I feel like it hides the real me in an ugly monster mask that no one wants to see. It makes me feel both worthless and helpless.
As a child my father was relentless about my weight. He really left an impression on me that people (especially men) would not accept me if I was big. It’s been a lesson that as hard as I try I can not unlearn. A part of me will always believe that if I keep gaining weight everyone will eventually abandon me, and complete strangers would dislike me.
Today some one that I considered a close friend made a joke about my weight in a very public forum (my facebook wall). It hurts me that she would do this having been around for many years of my life and seen how hard I’ve struggled both physically and emotionally over my weight problems. But at the same time I don’t know if this person was being inconsiderately rude or just joking about something so obvious there’s no point ignoring it. And I’m not quite sure I want to know.

Lets face it, I am becoming upset about articles telling me to liven up my sex life.  Mostly because I really don’t have one to liven up.  Contrariwise, I do have a great relationship with my friend Maria, and I need to tell you about it.

When someone is terribly important to you, make time for them; believe me, they notice.  Maria is someone I do not think I could live without, but relationships are sometimes (probably all) ectothermic homeotherms and require outside energy to keep it at the same temperature.

I doubt without active participation Maria and I would ever end up seeing each other.  Technically our lives do not cross often, we prefer different bars, we don’t work together, we don’t have class together, we don’t even go to the same school, and our life career choices are completely separate.  So that seeing each other in the same corridor and saying “hey, do you want to come to blah blah blah this weekend” would never happen.

But we see each other at least once a week at what we termed “Date Night.”  But know we aren’t dating, and people stop considering play-dates as dates.  But it is the one night a week that we decide to enjoy each others company and make sure we are caught up in the latest news, drama and gossip.  Activities include:

• watching Glee and So You Think You Can Dance
• Getting Coffee
• Going from coffee to Boarders, writing down secrets(not always real), and placing said secrets in books
• Nice Dinners
• Chinese Food
• Movie Night
• Cocktails

These can also be done in any combination.  Our favorite is TV show watching and Chinese food.  What could be better than a couple of Fat Girls, which can probably be the point that started our Date Night.

Fat Girls (2006), an indie film directed by Ash Christian, follows the senior year of Rodney Miller, a gay in a small town, as he tries to make himself into something better than his community believes he is.  It is about being a fat girl, being okay with yourself- you don’t have to be fat to be a fat girl, you don’t even have to be a girl.  a fat girl is more of a state of mind.

So if you are having sex or not or just having good times, good friends, and good hair you might want to think about starting your own Date Night.  Show how much your really care for someone by sharing each others company.  Remember that they are putting energy into the relationship too.

Pregnant women choose to be pregnant, there is nothing special, there is nothing great – if anything they should be secluded from society until they have finished breastfeeding (See previous Bitch of the Day: Breastfeeding Mothers).  Pregnancy is not a celebration.  Pregnant women should be punished for adding another waste of space, polluter, serial killer to society.  These articles of clothing advertise where instead it should hide.  I know that maternity wear sucks balls and that if you are pregnant it is a nightmare to have to dress your mammoth of a body but why bring the rest of us down to your misery? Stay at home or move to the north or cover appropriately.

I discovered the other day that the average American woman is a size 14/16. 

This reality is slightly horrifying, terribly saddening, and strangely satisfying.  I am over four inches in the waist and 8 inches in the hips smaller than the average woman.  By those kinds of standards I am thin.

But I am not really thin. 

The average is just fat.

I always find it really frustrating when people are fat.  This is my diet journal so I trust I can be perfectly frank if I wish.  So here it is.

There is absolutely no reason to be a size 16.  There is no reason in this world to be fat.  Unless you have some disease that not only keeps you from moving but decreases your metabolism to the point where the instant you eat something it turns to fat – you should not be fat.  I don’t care what you’re body type is, what your family history is, or whether you have a mental disorder that makes you eat like you’re a horse – there is no excuse for being fat.

I have a friend who is a bigger girl, who is well on her way to becoming classifiably fat.  Why?  Because she has an unhealthy obsession with food.  She eats absurd amounts of food when she’s not even hungry.  She is virtually incapable of turning down a meal.  And as far as exercise is concerned, she’ll be lucky of she walks a couple of miles in a day.  This is so disturbing to me.

There is absolutely no reason why the number of calories you take in are not directly proportional to the number of calories you burn.  You sit around all day – you don’t eat that much.  You run marathons everyday – you eat a crapload of food.  You don’t eat a crapload of food that your body does nothing with and eventually turns into fat.  What’s funny is someone like her will judge me for smoking a cig.  Don’t lecture me about how I’m killing my body when you’re way of killing yours is so much sicker- eating yourself into an early grave of diabetes, high cholesterol, and other ailments associated with obesity.  And perhaps a size 16 is not obese, I don’t know, but on the vast majority of women who are this size is not healthy or sexy. 

At a size 16 you are not firm and you are not mostly muscle.  You are saggy and fat. This model – a size 14- is fat.  Her arms are not muscular.  Her legs have no definition.  Why? – because they are fat.

I’m sorry if anyone in the plus size range is reading this and feeling horribly offended, but it’s the truth.  I came across a website today with an article about an event in which the purpose was to provide role models of heavy women for young teenagers.  Essentially, it was to show them that their being fat won’t keep them from succeeding. 

Why the fuck would we do that?!

Okay, so no we don’t want the youth of our nation wallowing in their own self-deprication because they don’t have Heidi Klum’s body.  I am in agreement.  But how and why would we teach them that it’s okay to be overweight?  It’s okay not to care about the state of your body.  Don’t worry.  Your inner-beauty will shine.

How about we start teaching teenagers that they don’t have to worry about their hygiene?  Yellow teeth are only a concern of the dentist.  Not bathing won’t effect how smart you are, so why bother?! 

Having a healthy body helps you have a healthy mind and a healthy spirit.  Whether you’re you are on one end of the size spectrum or the other, if you don’t take care of your body, you will suffer.

Now,  I don’t mean to say that a size 14 is fat for everyone.  If you’re 5′10″ with wide hipbones, and you workout, a size 14 is way different for you. Maybe your tummy is relatively flat.  But since the average American woman is also 5′4″, that is outside the norm. 

I’m not sure where exactly this rant is coming from since no one has attempted to push their fat ideals on me.  I just get really frustrated with Americans and how careless they are with their bodies when it comes to something as simple as food. I may smoke cigs.  I may smoke weed.  I may drink like a foul-mouthed sailor.  But at least I take the time to think about the food I put into it so it can handle all the other shit.  At least I don’t destroy it with food that scientifically doesn’t classify it as food.  At least I listen to it and eat when I’m hungry and stop when I’m full.  Because to fill up your stomach for the sake of fulfilling some other desire/motive that you can’t seem to satiate is way more disturbing than my craving for nicotine and a good, loose time.

Drake & Chance: (Massive fits of unnecessary giggling.)

Chance: So, I was coming from Smith Hall and I got stuck behind this girl on the sidewalk. As I passed her, going off the sidewalk into the grass, I remarked “Excuse me, if you’re going to eat until you’re as wide as the sidewalk, then you could at least waddle a little faster. Some of us are in a hurry.” I’ve never recieved a death glare quite like that in my entire life.

Drake: (Pulls out lighter)
Chance: Put that away! You’re going to set off the sprinkler system.

Drake: I wanna go home, can I go home? I wanna go home and sleep.
Chance: But, Cookie..
Drake: Come here and hold me, Donut, please?

Drake: Ver caught it too.
Chance: I think our professor caught it. He’s ten minutes late.
Drake: I’m not surprised that he caught it. I’m surprised that we caught it.
Chance: Yeah, he’s up in his office right now “Hahahahahhaha I’m ten minutes late for class. Hahahha. Fuck it.”

Drake: I think it’s the gummy worms.
Chance: Heroin worms?
Drake: They look like they’re made of acid. Look at the colors!

Dr. Ruff: If you walk past some guy and are like “Hey, how ya doing?” But in your mind you’re thinking “I hate you, you son of a bitch.” That’s not right speech.

Dr. Ruff: How would you answer the question “Do I look fat in this dress?”
Drake: Yes.
Dr. Ruff: :O

Dr. Ruff: Now, being a merchant of death, not a good idea..but if you were a merchant of stuffed animals…that would be okay.

I’ve been getting a lot of heck from people who enjoy wearing tights as pants. And I am not saying that you are not allowed to wear tights as pants, I am just recommending you don’t. And I feel very strongly about this recommendation.

I pose the question, regarding the outfit that you wear consisting of tights as pants, I pose this question: Would you wear this shirt by itself; with nothing underneath? I feel that most girls would answer no. Why? Because it makes them look slutty and the shirt is not long enough to cover their body.

So then why does wearing tights justify wearing a shirt that isn’t long enough to cover your entire body? Well then if you have tights on you aren’t risking  showing off your ass and vagina! Clearly that’s the only point in wearing tights, so that you can be slutty enough to show off your body, but not SO slutty to show off bare skin.

For these reasons, dresses with tights are acceptable, because you CAN wear a dress without tights. Thus you can NOT wear a shirt with tights, because you wearing a shirt without tights is repulsive. I hope you are following my logic.

Also, if we WERE to consider tights as pants. Agreeing with all of you and saying that tights are pants. And if tights are pants, then one should wear them as daily attire, like a regular pair of jeans. So then when wearing a pair of said jeans, one might wear a t-shirt, or something shorter, like a tank top.  One might also tuck in their shirt to their pants for a more professional look. However when wearing tights as pants in public, and strictly as pants, not an accessory under anything, one would have to deal with the unfortunate fact of the thinness of the material of tights. Hence, the combination of these factors leads me to believe that it is impossible to classify tights as pants, thus they should not be worn as so.

There is a guy that I find so fascinating that I feel compelled to share my feelings. I am both repulsed and captivated by Tucker Max. I would wish death on this complete and utter asshole if I wasn’t both thoroughly entertained and insulted by everything he represents. The song “I hate myself for loving you” comes to mind when I think of how much I both hate and love his very existence. Tucker Max is the author of a blog, not much unlike this one except that his became a book and people actually read it. The book “I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell”, which I can’t deny I found delightful, is chock full of stories of Max bedding and degrading promiscuous women. Perhaps I should have said “cock full”. Feminist or not, any women who reads this should find it completely offensive. However, for some reason it’s so damn enjoyable I had to keep making excuses for why I loved it in order to live with myself.
At first I convinced myself that it was alright because I was not like these girls. Sure I’ve done my fair share of fooling around with random guys after nights of drunken debauchery, but unlike these girls I kept things PG 13 at most. That seemed to comfort me until I got to a chapter were our Lothario speaks ill of sleeping with a fat girl where like most of his stories “hilarity ensues”. This guys life has a laugh track. I sat myself down, gave myself a hug, and spoke softly “Okay, this is going to be hard to read but you know that we are an OCD cover to cover reader so we gotta get through this. Don’t get upset. I am sure that he is referring to a morbidly obese girl who needs to buy two seats on an airplane and you are just chubby”. That’s when I got to the part that read, “Well, she isn’t disgustingly obese. She’s only like 30…40..ish…pounds overweight”. The story went on compare being found to have sex with some one my size to be just as humiliating, if not more so than screwing a first cousin or a goat. He seems to be more pained by being found out by his friends than the actual act, but still big fat ouch.
At this point I am offended, insulted, and a little hurt. It took me a while to pick the book back up, but curiosity got the best of me. The worst was over and the rest of the book was hilarious, you could even say it ensued. I both loathed and admired Tucker Max by the final page. I tried telling myself that he probably made it all up, but that just made me sad. I even thought well all these skanks might sleep with him at will, but he could never get into my size 14’s. I don’t really think he would care, but I stopped my silliness at that and just excepted that despite everything I believed it I liked the book. I would just have to live with myself.
I had wanted to read this book for quite some time. I kept picking it up at Borders, and having to remind myself that I could get it cheaper on Amazon and that I had too much on my shelf I had yet to read. I finally got around to it when I found out that they were making a movie with the guy who played Logan on Gilmore Girls Matt Czuchry as Tucker. It was good casting since he was that type in the show, and I was intrigued to see him take it to a higher level. Sure enough a few weeks after I finished reading it, the movie trailer was out and I was back to hating myself for wanting to see it. The trailer starts with Tucker trying to pick up a girl who in all honesty I am definitely better looking than. His strategy is to impress her asking her if the turtles she’s talking to (yes that’s not a typo ugo is depicted as this stupid) are asking her to kill the fat girl. The camera than scans to an attractive heavy girl. When the nose with an ugly girl on scurries away insulted. Tucker questions why she is angry since “Fat girls aren’t real people”.
Damn you Tucker Max. I can’t help but be drawn to your story telling skills, but it saddens me that you must be so hurtful. I can’t help but wonder if he’s really that mean and disrespectful toward unattractive women or any woman who won’t sleep with him. Is he a genius or are we all just won over by a good dirty sex story. I honestly don’t know, but one things for sure I’m netflixing. He won’t be getting my (my boyfriends) hard earned (he works for a sports website so I’m stretching it here) $10 dollars ($5 dollars on weeknights) on his opening weekend (Monday after since it’s $10 on weekends) and that’s final.
