Origin Custom Gaming PC certified by Fatal1ty

I recently read about a new gaming PC company called Origin PC:

http://www.originpc.com/

Now, I built myself a gaming computer about 3 years back, cuz I am a Quake fan and I didn’t have much money and I wanted the most computer for the money. Now that I am a little older and have a little money, I look at my gaming rig with a little different view.

Sure it was cheep, but every year there have been a couple of times when I had to work on it cuz it wouldn’t boot, or ran slow, or the fan stop working (still don’t know why but it randomly still happens). I was actually thinking of upgrading to a pre-build system, but Origin PC offers some interesting features that come with a pro-built custom system.

I recently found this article on MaximumPC about the new Origin Custom Gaming PC certified by Fatal1ty:

http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/new_custom_system_maker_origin_enters_fray_genesis_eon18

Now, I don’t like Paul “The Paid for Pussy” Lilly as a writer, and he really has a chip on his shoulder about Fatal1ty in this article – probably cuz he got emasculated by Johnathan ‘Fatal1ty’ Wendel in a shootout or competition and needs to over act (over write?) like he still has a penis…

Any how, I met Fatal1ty at E for All in LA a few years ago, and his gaming skills are incredible. He really knows how to game, and although he whipped the map with my fragged ass, afterwards he gave me some pointers and was a really nice and professional guy.

http://www.fatal1ty.com

Origin PC was smart to work with him, I think he adds a lot of credibility, and if anyone knows how a gaming PC should perform- it is Fatal1ty.

I have a Fatal1ty Sound Card and Headset for about 1 year, and they are the shit!! I love them. I have had a Fatal1ty keyboard for about 2 years and it is one of the best I have ever had.

So, as far as Fatal1ty as a brand is concerned, I think it is a great gaming brand – and I am seriously thinking of forking out for an Origin PC system with a wild ass paint job!!

So you think you quad-core processor is fast, well think again cuz the semiconductor company Tilera promises to pack 100 cores into a processor that can be used in applications that require heavy computing power (think Darth Vader level Poowwweerr) for aps like video conferencing, wireless base stations and networking. By comparison, Intel’s latest chips are expected to have just eight cores.

The Tilera 100-core processor, fabricated using 40-nanometer technology, is expected to be available early 2010.

“This is a general-purpose chip that can run off-the-shelf programs almost unmodified,” says Anant Agarwal, chief technical officer of Tilera. “We can do that while offering at least four times the compute performance of an Intel Nehalem-Ex, while burning a third of the power as a Nehalem.”

In a bid to beat Moore’s law (which states number of transistors on a chip doubles every two years), chip makers are trying to either increase clock speed or add more cores to a processor.

“You can’t just keep increasing the clock speed so the only way to expand processor power is to increase the number of cores, which is what everyone is trying to do now,” says Will Strauss, principal analyst with research and consulting firm Forward Concepts. “It’s the direction of the future.”

In fact, Intel’s research labs are already working on a similar idea. Last year, Intel showed a prototype of a 80-core processor. The company has promised to bring that to consumers in about five years.

The real question is not speed, but how much does that speed cost? 100 core processor for under $500 – maybe then I would buy it.

“If I were building a Gaming Supercomputer, then I might spend $1000 for a CPU!”, said iw84n0b0dy – my gamer friend.

I have a problem with headsets. Most headsets you can find in SL are cheap, uncomfortable and they don’t deliver quality sound. Ever since I found out that they have Creative Fatal1ty headsets at EPSI, I tried to get hold of one.But alas, they didn’t have stock and I waited for months for them to bring it back, but it never showed up.

I gave up and went for a cheap A4Tech headset. I mean, it is not cheap in the A4Tech list of headsets, but it was around Rs. 1000 which is kinda expensive for cheap Chinese crap.

It was just like the Logitech Precision Gaming Headset. A perfect clone from outside, but that’s where the similarities end. It sucked so badly I stopped using it after a couple of days.

Then I went and got the Logitech Easy Chat Pro headset. It delivered better audio, but still not good enough. And it put so much pressure on the ears that I couldn’t wear it for more than an hour.

Couple of weeks ago I heard that they have the Fatal1ty at Unity and I went to got it. The price of it ranged from Rs. 7000 to Rs. 18000. So typical of Unity assclowns. They don’t know what they are selling. They just tell whatever that comes to their mind. Dickheads!

Anyways, I got the Rs 7000 one. It’s quite expensive I know. But it deserved that price as it was excellent. Audio quality is superb. No pressure on the ears. Just a little tight though. It will get adjusted after some time I guess.

I listen to music through the headset now mostly. Only use the speakers when I watch a movie from the bed. Hehe.

And it rocks when it comes to gaming. I’ll write more about it later on.

Jisses.

While getting the chance to meet and talk with professional gamer Johnathan “Fatal1ty” W

While getting the chance to meet and talk with professional gamer Johnathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel was really cool, getting to check out his latest products was even cooler. Flip over to the other side to learn more about what to expect from Fatal1ty and his brand partners.

With the approach of E3, Fatal1ty and brand partners announced two awesome new products: the Fatal1ty Professional Series Gaming Headset MKII from Creative and the ioXtreme from Fusion-io.

First up was the headset. At first glance, it looks like your average headset. This, however, is far from ordinary. From the press release:

Unlike other gaming headsets, the Creative Fatal1ty Professional Series Gaming Headset MkII is equipped with Creative’s proprietary Silencer™ technology. Silencer technology utilizes two microphones in the headset – one on the boom mic and one on the ear cup. The microphone on the ear cup captures and screens out background noise so voice through the boom mic can be heard with stunning clarity.

I actually got to try the headset on. The first thing I noticed was how amazingly comfortable it felt. The ear pieces are really soft, and they sit nicely on your head without sqeezing too tight or feeling too loose. The next thing I noticed was how well they block out noise. Conventions like E3 are anything but quiet. Yet with the headset on, I could barely hear TJ and Fatal1ty sitting next to me.

Since I could barely hear, I pulled the headset off and asked Fatal1ty to tell me more about it. “The cool thing about this is the Silencer technology.” There’s an algorithm built into the microphone that eliminates sound beyond your voice. This means that when you’re playing games, your friends aren’t going to hear babies crying, dogs barking, or any other sounds other mics tend to pick up. Plus the mic is removable. This is pretty cool! I didn’t get a date for when these will hit stores, but they will be priced at $99.99. Check the link at the bottom if you want to preorder them from Amazon. I know I’ll be picking up a set.

The other product announced is the ioXtreme, a solid state storage device for high-performance PCs and workstations using 64 bit operating systems. To quote the press release:

Drawing from Fusion-io’s industry-leading solid-state technologies, the ioXtreme is a PCI Express card that sits on the system bus filling he performance gap between RAM and disk drives. It adds 80 GB of non-volatile capacity, exponentially accelerating input and output, including file access, and improving application performance dramatically.

In other words, it seriously increases the speed of your computer. Imagine booting Windows in a second or rendering high-end videos in minutes rather than hours. To help put this into perspective, we actually got to see this in action. The Fatal1ty booth had a video wall with 16 Samsung LCD screens with 100 DVDS loaded running on 16 Nvidia NVS 290 cards, 16 2.8ghz servers, 16 super microserver quad socket Xeon processors and one (that’s right, one) ioXtreme card. And it ran well.

The ioXtreme will be available to purchase this July with a price of $895. I gotta start saving my money. For more information on the ioXtreme or the gaming headset, check out www.fatal1ty.com.

Johnathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel is known for becoming the world’s first professional video gamer in 1999 and setting the standard for the gaming lifestyle. We got a chance to sit down with him at E3 to talk about some of his new products and also to get some tips and tricks for anyone who’d like to follow his path and become a professional gamer. Keep reading to find out what Fatal1ty had to say.

We started off talking about equipment. As Fatal1ty kept saying, “It’s all about bang for your buck.” If you don’t have to right equipment, your game is going to suffer. First on the list of equipment is a headset. You need to be able to hear what’s going on in the game as well as have your teammates hear you. Fatal1ty suggested his new Professional Series Gaming Headset MKII featuring new silencer technology. More on these in my article about the latest products coming out from Fatal1ty and brand partners. For now, just know that this headset is really good for cancelling out unwanted noise and is super comfy.

Next on the list was a good mouse and mouse pad. Fatal1ty suggested using an optical over a laser mouse for better tracking. His suggestion was the old Microsoft 500 series optical mouse (which you might have to find on eBay). To go with the mouse, you should also get a larger mouse pad. The more room you have to move around, the less time you waste readjusting the mouse. Continuing with the peripherals, a good keyboard is also necessary. There is no right keyboard for everyone, but Fatal1ty suggests getting one that is comfortable. You also need one that you can easily reach the alt key, the asd keys, and the spacebar without moving your hand much. As far as a monitor goes, Fatal1ty suggests one with low latency. Other items you should look into is getting the best motherboard, ram, graphic cards, and internet connection. Don’t just get the cheapest internet connection or the most expensive. Shop around and get the best connection with the best ping. It’s all about ping.

Once you have the equipment, you’re ready to train. The best way to do this is to find the competitions. Put yourself in tight situations. Do horrible. Change it up. Play different styles. Always try to find people with same skill or a little better so that you push yourself to become better and learn different strategies. Learn to simply outfight people cause it’s not all about practice.

Take for example Fatal1ty’s win in Dallas. The tournament was 5 days after Doom 3 came out. Nobody got a chance to practice. But because he knew how to fight in any game, he won the tournament. Most importantly, however, remember to have fun. If you’re not enjoying yourself, there’s no point in playing the game. For more information on Fatal1ty or his products, check out www.fatal1ty.com.

In my next to the last critique, Xeni Jardin interviews FATAL1TY, one of the best-known professional

In my next to the last critique, Xeni Jardin interviews FATAL1TY, one of the best-known professional gamers out there.

The interview using a lot of the games and gaming sounds that could actually be heard during his gameplay as natural sounds throughout the piece. I think it’s a nice way to tie in natural sounds to a piece that normally would not have any. Also, the interviews are clear and easy to understand throughout the audio, so there’s no muffling like in the first podcast. She does a great job tying in background information with quotes said throughout the piece as well, so that listeners don’t have to try to guess about information or look anything up.

However, maybe talking to some of his competitors would have been better sources besides just talking to him. They could have also given their opinion on gaming competitions, and their personal opinion about him. I know this was more of a profile piece on him, but hearing another side about him could have a lot of benefit to a piece like this.

En español | In English

¿Piensan ustedes que vale la pena ir a E for All otra vez? Fatal1ty volverá, las finales del World Cyber Games USA se jugarán allí, y el Games Career Seminar (Seminario de Carreras de Juegos) será ofrecido también. Visiten el sitio web de E for All: www.eforallexpo.com.

E for All may get to be better in some ways than last year’s, but not in others. I remember the anime costume contest. Last year, I also got to play Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Metal Gear Solid 4 for the first time; that was cool. But there were not as many companies at the event, only 6 well-known game companies, small number when compared to the ones at old E3 events (especially in 2005 & 2006) when everyday showed up. The Halo 3 Training Camp and Fatal1ty’s presence were also great, but for this year’s E4A starting on October 3rd, there are only 2 main companies: EA and Microsoft. What’s going on with the others? Other companies seem to be preparing for more important events: the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) and the Tokyo Game Show (TGS). While E4A will take place at the LA Convention Center from October 3-5, TGS will begin start on October 9th and end on October 12th. PAX will be from August 29-31 (this week) and over 20 main companies, not counting the independent game developer companies, will show up there. Do you think it’s worth going to E for All again? Fatal1ty will make a comeback, the World Cyber Games USA Finals will be played there, and the Games Career Seminar will be offered as well. Check out the E for All web site: www.eforallexpo.com.

Hello, everyone and welcome to today’s look into my mind.

Today, I’m going to press an interesting question. What defines a “hardcore” gamer?

To some, a gamer may spur visions of a fatass virgin living in his mother’s basement, huddled over his controller, never going outside. However, media stereotypes aside, in today’s world, gamers can be anyone from the stay-at-home mom to the college jock.

When one says hardcore, however, what can one say? Stay-at-home mothers who play the occasional Bejeweled or casual games are of course not considered hardcore. Some may say they are “hardcore” because they own an Xbox 360 and play Halo 3 online with their friends. However, let’s turn to old Webster for the definiton of harcore.

Having an extreme dedication to a certain activity; diehard.

If you look at that definition, you can consider anyone who enjoys and loves even the most casual of all games, hardcore. However, perhaps we should turn to the unwritten rulebook on this one. In my opinion, I believe hardcore gamers are those that not only play the games they love, but actually obsessively play to the fullest, hours at a time, and own not just one or two systems, but every single one.

Sound like anyone you know?

ÜberGamer here.

Signing out, Panzer XiII.

I’m not all that big a fan of places that chuck out press releases verbatim. In fact, I’

I’m not all that big a fan of places that chuck out press releases verbatim. In fact, I’m so not a fan that I can’t name one!

I’ve always been drawn more to places that feature nothing but awesomeness, unquenchable froth, and the occasional kinda regular news site.

But fuck it, I saw the best press release ever so I’m turning the Injun into a generic news site for a day. I mean, shit, go read, it’s at the bottom of the thing, it’s hilarious. I can’t even begin to imagine what kind of thing-slash-conversation made Gabe wanna post a fake press release about the greatest FPS player ever… you know, whatsisface. He won the… good prize. That one time. Remember?

I like to imagine that when Kilroy becomes THE BEST he’ll recieve a similar red carpet treatment.

Like all generic news outlets, I’d like to say that more news will be offered when it’s available, but really the only thing I can do is read PA more and hope they put up an explanation. Even if the explanation is “we did it for the lulz”, that’s fine!

Flipping through fatal1ty.com kinda reminded me of something, though. Says here that Wendel’s a pretty okay athelete on top of being a giganto-award winning cyber-athelete. I’ve always thought that keeping in shape would help out a lot when it comes to beating people down in games (on top of playing, playing, playing). It’s something I haven’t put into practice too well, outside of trying (unsuccessfully) to keep up with Kilroy at dancin’ games, but it sounds pretty damn viable, doesn’t it?

It’s like an RPG. Train up your stamina to perform at higher levels for longer periods of time! Train up your reflexes so you can hit OVER 9000 actions per minute! Train up your Intelligence so you can cast more Magic Missiles per day! Like everything else in this world, it’s all about knowing what the hell to do. Experience points.

That was some interesting tangent. Was I possessed by the spirit of a long-dead gamer who drowned in Mountain Dew and regrets his life or something? Oh well, maybe I’ll put the real gaming website facade up sometime and give some Wii shovelware titles 8/10.

LEGEND OF UPDATE DENSETSU MONOGATARI FAPPY-CHAN KAWAII BLORPHIG: I guess being one of the herd and reading Penny Arcade every five fuckin’ minutes actually DID help in this case! Gabe put up a teeny little link (reproduced in its smallness here) that pretty much made me go, “Oh.”

Also, though I won’t retract my usual statement about Kilroy recieving the same treatment, as I’m pretty sure that even if he did become famous enough through whatever gaming he does, he probably wouldn’t go slapping his name on every stupid thing.

I was busy volunteering this past weekend, so I wasn’t able to get out to any of the lan parti

I was busy volunteering this past weekend, so I wasn’t able to get out to any of the lan parties that took place around where I live. I miss my lan friends, and I haven’t been to a lan party since March, so I’m feeling symptoms of withdrawal!

For those of you who haven’t had the chance to go to a LAN party yet- it stands for local area network, and it’s a big gathering of nerds where everyone brings their computers and gets their game on!

I find that LAN parties are an awesome way to meet a group of people who you know automatically share many similar interests with you. In day to day life I find it hard to meet people who play the same fps games that I do, and whenever I bring it up I usually get looks of disbelief.

At the March lan, though, there were still a couple incidents of disbelief. I wore my t-shirt that my friends had bought me for my birthday that said “Girls play cs, too” and one guy still asked me “Do you actually play cs?” I had to try really hard to keep my composure, because I felt like rofl-ing.

You really see every type of gamer at these kinds of parties. You will have your griefer- a big asshole who likes to ruin other people’s fun, and somehow they will drag you into the middle of it, and you will be having such a good time that you won’t realize what you have become. At one LAN a bunch of us went onto a server and meow’d until we either got kicked or banned. “What is with the cats?!”

On the opposite end of the spectrum you have the rager who screams at everyone, because nothing is ever their fault. This person is the least fun to be around. The only upside is that they give everyone else a laugh for looking like a complete tool.

The ringer is the best person to talk to if you are trying to improve your game. This person knows all of the strats and is the resident pwner-er. When they’re not playing the game they tend to be very quiet, so you’d have no idea what they’re truly capable of. Meeting this kind of person is like finding a dollar in your pocket- a very nice surprise.

The creeper is possibly the worst kind of gamer for a gamer girl to run into (yes the genders can be reversed, but I’m speaking from my personal experience). The creeper is not even a real gamer; he has no friends or girlfriend, so he goes to the lan as if it was his mecca. The creeper will sit next to your computer while you try to game, and he will stare at you as if he was a turret in Portal, “I see you!” When you get up to “go to the washroom” he will take photos of you, and he will treasure them always. You might try to enlist your gamer friends for support, but he will inevitably creep them, too.

The non-gamer gamer has the best rig (or fragwagon) there. The case is brilliant, and the lights emanating from it makes the lan look more like a disco. You will probably be fooled into thinking that this is the new fatal1ty until they ask you how to run ventrilo.

Well that’s all for now To be continued!

(Inspired by Valkyrie’s post on different types of gamer girls)

So I think it’s safe to say that pretty much every male from the age of 13-30 has played video

So I think it’s safe to say that pretty much every male from the age of 13-30 has played video games, and has most likely even owned a couple consoles.

We see from time to time kids that have become “professional” gamers, and admittedly there is some money in it. Some of the top players of their kind have not only won hundreds of thousands of dollars playing games, but launched an entire empire (see Fatal1ty ). But, for the most part, people play them for fun.

What I am about to show you, though, is just ridiculous. The game is called Mushihimesama (are you surprised its Japanese? No, I’m not either). Its basically an updated version of space invaders (seen below):

However, as with all old games, it has been updated. A lot. This is a screen shot of Mushihimesama:

I don’t blame you if you can’t tell what is going on. Essentially the purple/pink blobs are bullets that need to be avoided, the boss is at the top of the screen, and the player’s ship is at the bottom. It’s much better if you watch a video of it:

A video of Mushihimesama in action

This begs the question – how did someone get this good at this game? How does anyone?
