Un siècle et demi plus tard, nous sommes bien au delà de ses points de vue sur plusieurs sujets, dont les mécanismes de transmission des caractères génétiques et d’apparition des mutations spécifiant la variabilité biologique. Nous sommes aussi au delà de l’application des principes présidant à l’évolution biologique uniquement en biologie, avec des extensions dans d’autres domaines, peut-être sur la route d’un darwinisme universel. Nous ne sommes pas au delà des neuneux qui fleurissent encore; mais il y en aura toujours d’ici 150 ans de plus.

Mais c’est jour de fête, à la mémoire de Charles Darwin, levons nos verres les amis.

The conference was organized by Centro Extremeño de Tecnologías Avanzadas (CETA), Tribunal Electoral del Poder Judicial de la Federación (TE México), & Fundación Ciencias de la Documentación (FCD).

Another week has gone by in MLS.  There were great performances, abysmal performances, and performances that make you really wonder about the future of the league in some cities.  Here’s what MLS taught me this week.

What I Learned

FC Dallas is an embarrassment to MLS.  I was only able to catch the opening minutes of the Dallas/San Jose match, but I found myself shocked.  Pizza Hut Park was barren.  The sheer number of empty seats made me sick.  Can this really be the state of American soccer in one of MLS’ original cities?  The eventual attendance was roughly 6,000 people.  Sure it was San Jose and not Seattle visiting, but only 6,000 is bad even by Dallas’ standards this season.

The number one reason I’ve seen for the poor attendance was the rough Texas heat.  Both of the Dallas based bloggers I spoke with called shenanigans.  I’ve heard the same argument with sports in Florida, especially in the summer, but I have to agree with my Dallas friends.  We weren’t talking about 110 degree weather.  It was roughly 90 degrees.  Isn’t that normal for Dallas this time of year?  I know it is for Florida.  Here in Orlando, we’re just hitting the busy tourist season.  Market your team better, FCD.  Don’t hide behind garbage excuses.

What I Want to Know

How in the hell does Juan Carlos Osario still have a job?  Red Bull New York have been a disaster all season.  Osario uses a different line-up every game, yet the result is almost always the same: a Red Bulls loss.  I have absolutely no love for the guy because of how he ran out of Chicago, but this display is pathetic.  This is the same team that reached the MLS Cup final?  Sure the Bulls have had some injury problems, but so have a few other teams in the league.  Even when RBNY was healthy, they played like complete crap.  Osario has earned nine points in fourteen matches.  Nine!  In Europe, he would have been fired already.  RBNY is a European company.  Why do they suddenly have different standards?

What I Knew

Houston is notorious for being a slow starter.  One reason is because they’ve been so busy the last few seasons prepping for the late stages of CONCACAF club competitions rather than having a true training camp, but I can’t really back that theory up.  Actually, the Dynamo started their camp later this year for some reason, something I thought really hurt them against eventual champions Atlante in the CONCACAF Champions League.  At this point in the MLS season, the Dynamo are firing on all cylanders.

Brian Ching is down with a hamstring injury he picked up in USMNT camp, but that hasn’t slowed down the Dynamo.  They went into Chicago and played a great match, asserting their dominance against a weakened Chicago backline.  While it is hard to blame Chicago, it would have been very easy to blame Houston for not taking advantage of the situation.  Stuart Holden continues to impress me with his play and his scoring ability.  His goal this week would have been my goal of the week pick had it not been for Movsisyan’s miracle strike between two defenders.  Houston can cement their place as the top team in the league with a victory over Chivas tonight.

เมื่อเราได้เงินจากการโอนเงินมาจากต่างประเทศก็มักจะมีคำถามกับตัวเองเสมอๆว่า เราจะโอนมาไว้ในบัญชีเงินประเภทไหน บ้างก็คิดว่าแลก Rate มันมาเป็นเงินบาทแล้วฝากในธนาคารแบบปกติเลย บางคนก็มองว่าถือเป็นเงินสกุลนั้นๆใน Foreign Currency Deposit (FCD) ดีไหม? เผื่อว่าหากเราต้องการใช้เงินสกุลนั้นขึ้นมาจะได้ไม่ต้องแลกไปแลกมา เรื่องการถือค่าเงินสกุลต่างประเทศนั้นเป็นเรื่องที่มีอัตราเสี่ยงที่สูงอยู่พอควรเลยครับ ค่าเงินมันแกว่งทุกวันขึ้นๆลงๆไม่ต่างกับหลักทรัพย์ต่างๆ วันนี้คุณถือก็อาจจะกำไรหรือขาดทุนจากเมื่อวานก็ได้ ก็มักจะมีเสียงบ่นต่างๆนานาว่า น่าจะแลกไปนานแล้วดูซิค่าเงินบาทอ่อน บางคนก็บ่นว่าเมื่อมันจะสูงขึ้นกว่านี้อีกจะได้แลกได้กำไร

การตัดสินใจว่าจะใช้ Deposit หรือ FCD ทั้วไปนั้นคงต้องดูข้อดีข้อเสีย สำหรับการโอนเข้าประเภท Deposit นั้นไม่ต้องคิดอะไรมากเลยเพราะมีการแลกเงินทันที ไม่ต้องสนใจความเสี่ยงต่างๆเพราะเราถือเงินบาท อัตราดอกเบี้ยก็จะได้ตามตลาดดอกเบี้ยที่ธนาคารนั้นๆจะให้กับเรา แต่ในส่วนของ FCD นั้นจะต่างกัน บางคนอาจจะมองว่าโอนเงินมา FCD น่าจะดีกว่าเพราะว่าดอกเบี้ยที่ได้จะได้ตามสกุลเงินนั้นๆ มองเผินๆจากโฆษณาต่างๆ ถ้าสกุลเงินนั้นให้ ดอกเบี้ยสูงกว่าก็น่าเอาไปฝาก แถมถ้าค่าเงินนั้นๆแข็งเราก็จะกำไรอีกต่างหาก แทบจะเรียกว่า 2 เด้งเลยก็ได้

ในความเป็นจริงแล้วการโอนเงินเข้า FCD มันไม่ได้เป็นอย่างที่หวังหรอกครับ การที่ธนาคารจะนำเงินของเรามาให้ดอกเบี้ยตามสกุลเงินนั้นๆ ธนาคารต้องรับภาระความเสี่ยงที่สูงซึ่งเขาไม่ทำอย่างงั้นแน่นอนไม่เช่นนั้นธนาคารของเมืองไทยก็ต้องทำหน้าที่ในการขนเงินของลูกค้าไปฝากในประเทศนั้นๆ ซึ่งในความเป็นจริงทำไม่ได้หรอก ธนาคารก็คงไม่ทำอย่างงั้น เขาให้ดอกเบี้ยคุณสูงได้แต่เขาก็จะหักค่าธรรมเนียมการถอนโอนของผู้ฝากแทนเพื่อเป็นการชดเชย ซึ่งหากเป็นเช่นนี้การที่คุณจะโอนเงินเข้า FCD นั้น สิ่งที่ต้องประเมินให้รอบคอบก็คือ
1. แนวโน้มอัตราดอกเบี้ยของประเทศนั้นๆ – อาจจะลดลงเรื่อยๆ หรือเพิ่มเรื่อยๆ
2. แนวโน้มอัตราแลกเปลี่ยนในอนาคต  – เหมือนข้อ 1
3. ค่าใช้จ่ายที่เกิดจากการฝากถอนเงิน – เป็น Cost แน่ๆ ข้อ 1 และ 2 จะ Cover cost คุณหรือมันจะยิ่งทำให้คุณขาดทุนยิ่งขึ้นได้หรือเปล่า?
4. คุณจำเป็นต้องใช้เงินนั้นหรือแค่อยากเกร็งกำไร? – ถ้าจะใช้เงินก็อย่าไปคิดมาก ถ้าเกร็งกำไรก็ต้องคิดว่าชีวินนี้มันมีความเสี่ยงตลอด

The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Faculty Collaboration Database (http://fcd.mcw.edu/) recently sent a mass mailing to every faculty member who had publications in a pending status.  We did this to encourage everyone to log in and keep their profiles up to date.  So far, after 2 days, we’ve seen a big surge in logins… over 300 new logins have been recorded.  We are also updating the front page with new content in hopes that the internet search giants will visit often.

Linnean Society of London Celebrates 150 Years of the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection

On July 1st 1858, papers titled “On the Tendency of Species to form Varieties; and on the Perpetuation of Varieties and Species by Natural Means of Selection”, were read to the Linnean Society of London on behalf of Charles Robert Darwin (1809-1882) and Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913), announcing the theory of evolution by means of natural selection.

Fourteen years ago today, on 2nd March, 1994, the Friends of Charles Darwin were effectively formed when we sent our first letter to the Chief Cashier of the Bank of England.

So today I am off to the Women Of Faith conference in Ft Lauderdale along with hundreds, maybe even thousands of other woman. I am SO looking forward to it (my first time going) and spending time with Jen (her 3rd time I think) and others from our church (hey and even 2 of my fellow Jazzercisers are going too!!)

So I will be ‘offline’ for 3 days (the withdrawal ! for me I mean!)
