Iata ca am facut si 50,000 views de cand a fost lansat blogul (21 martie 2008), am trecut si de un an de existenta, asa ca ne-am hotarat sa vorbim un pic de motivele pentru care scriem (sau ar trebui sa scriem).

De ce a pornit proiectul FDV? Din 1000 de motive dintre care o sa mentionez prea putine si poate insignifiante. FDV a aparut ca un hobby si inca este unul; nu am incercat sa facem bani cu blogul (ce-i drept nici daca am vrea nu ar fi atat de usor), nu pretindem ca suntem cele mai obiective sau indicate pareri, nu pretindem nici macar ca ne pricem. Pur si simplu ne place sa ne uitam la filme si ne-am gandit sa ne spunem si parerea. Incercam sa povestim si despre filme recente, dar nu suntem un program al filmelor de la cinematograf. In general vorbim despre orice film care ne-a placut sau ne-a displacut noua. Pana la urma de ce? ..

pentru ca exista site-uri de genul Star Trek Diplomatic Relations, wookieepedia, pentru ca exista fan-cluburi pentru mii de filme (Lord of the Rings, Star Wars), pentru ca exista petreceri tematice in care copii, tineri, adulti se imbraca ca personajele iubite si stapanesc la perfectie datele despre universul favorit, pentru ca din cand in cand parca te indragostesti de un personaj (hopefully de sex opus), pentru acele momente cand esti dezamagit de un film si iti faci in cap propriul tau scenariu de cum ar trebui sa se intample, inca 1000 de pentru ca (pentru ca exista si morcoveata care s-a suparat ca m-am luat de Natalie Portman).

Cea de-a saptea arta a lumii, cinematografia, reuseste un efect uimitor: te transpune in universul filmului si te face sa simti ca esti acolo. Ajungi sa te gandesti cum e sa fi fost membru al echipei de pe Appolo 14 sau ce-ai face daca te-ar urmari Freddy Kruger, ce decizii ai fi luat tu in locul lui Lawrence al Arabiei; poate viitorul tau socru e un fost agent CIA si se pregateste sa iti faca viata un calvar; cum ar fi sa stii ca ala negru de respira greu e tac-tu; te imbraci in femeie si devii bona copiiilor tai pentru ca sotia a intentat divort si nu vrea sa mai fii aproape de ei; noaptea, cand vezi semnul liliacului pe cer, iti pui costumul si sari in super masina ta; aceeasi zi se repeta la infinit si nu stii cum sa iesi din bucla.

De multe ori aud “nu am ce filme sa vad, toate-s niste porcarii, la tv nimic, la cinema iar nimic”. Daca stau sa ma gandesc ca prima proiectie a unui film a fost pe 28 decembrie 1895 la Paris (au folosit masinaria fratilor Lumiere), imi dau seama ca sunt foarte multe filme realizate si cred ca pot gasi multe variante sa umplu 2-3 ore intr-o seara. Poate nu toate vor avea efecte speciale sau animatii 3D, dar probabil au ceva ce incepe sa lipseasca multor peliculele de astazi: actori foarte buni. Cu totii stim seria Star Wars si cat de mult este apreciata. Totusi primul film din serie, Star Wars IV: A New Hope, apare in 1977 si devine unul dintre cele de mai succes pelicule din acea vreme (si nu aveau animatii 3D!).

Nu ramane sa va spun decat vizionare placuta si sa ne lasati si noua un comentariu cu parerea voastra despre filme, despre noi. Speram ca peste un an sa ajungem la 150,000 views .

Intotdeauna mi-au placut filmele bune, cele cu o poveste in spate, care te  captiveaza.  Asa  ca atunci cand Radu a pornit FDV nu am ezitat in a-l ruga sa ma lase sa-mi manifest “snobismul” cinematografic in aceste pagini.

Nu stiu daca ati avea rabdare sa cititi si cum vad eu lucrurile dupa ce Radu s-a exprimat atat de frumos si “concis” asa ca mai bine uitati-va la urmatoarele montaje care cel putin mie imi reamintesc de ce ma uit la filme:

Razvan

Preživeli smo še en odličen koncert Rocka ter Rock’n'Rolla, ob priliki naložim še par fotografij, pa se malo bolj razpišem.

Dogodilo se je v sredo 15.4.2009 v prostorih Net-Cafeja, pod FDV-jem. Večer poln odličnih hitov ter zabavnih pripetljajev.

Pa da ne pozabim… koncert v organizaciji NŠK (notranjski študentski klub).  Če sm narobe napisu me popravte!

Fanice tudi tokrat niso zatajile! Je pa uletela tudi moja najljubša MamutBejba, sicer se nism imel priložnost slikat z njo … no mogoče pa naslednjič!

Emonska klet po kratki pavzi spet začenja s študentskimi žuri med tednom. FDV-jevci so si dali duška in praznovali konec napornih in težkih izpitov.

Obvezen rekvizit na zabavi: očala vseh oblik, velikosti ter materiala.

Emonska klet je bila zopet polna vročekrvnih študentov željnih zabave, kamorkoli si stopil so bili baloni in nagajivi vodni mehurčki

Bilo je zelo razgreto in vroče, kot se za FDV-jevce seveda spodobi.

Today in the market, Tuesday June 30, 2008:  The market ended flat after spending most of the day in positive territory. The news that drives the market just wasn’t compelling enough to move stocks beyond neutral. 

RSI’s Themes:  No picks today!  However there are some falling knifes.  Please see methodology note below.  RSI shows a bias towards pointing out healthcare and Pharma funds may be poised to stop their fall and bounce back.  Remember, falling knife candidates are not recommended.

• ADRU – BLDRS Europe 100 ADR Index Fund
• FDV – First Trust DB Strategic Value Index Fund
• PPH – Pharm Holders
• PRFH – PowerShares FTSI RAFI Healthcare Sector Portfolio

Methodology Note:

For the past several weeks I have done studies on the feasibility of utilizing ETFs with relatively low volume.  To my surprise I discovered low volume ETFs did not exhibit large bid/ask spreads.  I believe this due to the fact that ETFs are a bunch of stocks that individually trade at larger individual volumes.  If the spread grew too much, this anomaly would be arbitraged away.  A good example is PRFH mentioned above.  It traded for 800 shares today and yet its bid/ask spread was nicely low, unlike stocks that trade on low volume.  Its top ten holdings are the cream of the Healthcare Sector.  Consequently, I have modified RSI to allow the selection of lower volume ETF/CEFs.  Please use caution in any placement of trades.  

Esta semana foi especialmente boa.

Foi convidado pela Faculdade de Viçosa para participar da IV Semana Acadêmica desta instituição. Participei ministrando o curso de PHP e MySql. O curso foi ótimo os alunos corresponderam de forma dinâmica tudo que foi abordado durante a semana. Ensinei além do básico PHP até algo mais avançado como por exemplo o uso da biblioteca ADODB e também mostrei para os alunos as vantagem de usar o Banco de Dados PostgreSQL, instalando este SGBD e mostrando a usabilidade do phpPgAdmin.

Nesta semana, que foi bem recheada de emoções, foi especial também pelo fato de eu ter finalmente passado na prova carteira (exame de rua). Agora sou uma pessoa habilitada para dirigir veículos automotores.

The following is list of RSi’s picks for the past week (excluding Catch a Falling Knife picks):

This list speaks for itself .. there are lots of small and midcap and value names in the group.  Also included are pharma, semi and retail ETFs.  Quite a list and something to consider for your future investments. 

RSI’s Way Ahead portfolio is ahead (just like its name) 2.31% since its inception at the start of this quarter. The two funds turning in strong returns are MSF - Morgan Stanley Emerging Markets Fund and ASA – ASA Ltd. up 7.74% and 6.99% respectively. Three of the funds are in the red, but under 1% loss.  These are IHF - iShares Dow Jones US Healthcare Provider, PXJ – PowerShares High Growth Rate Div Achievers, and RWR – DJ Wilshire REIT. I fully expect these three funds to be in the black if this market puts in a good showing into next year.

Sometime when RSI has no picks that meet my criteria, I crank down the volume criteria and crank down the price appreciation criteria to see what is in my net.  Well I looked and found a couple of very small fry in the large sea of ETFs and CEFs:

• FDV – First Trust DB Strategic Value Index Fund
• XPH – SPDR S&P Pharmaceuticals Index

I really cannot discern a theme with the two except that these are very thinly traded funds, so they have an added dimension of risk.  They certainly are interesting, XPH could almost be called a CFK which entails even more risk.  Both not recommended.The CFK engine picked a short fund:

• PSQ – Short QQQ ProShares Fund

All I can say about this ETF is that I’m not impressed with its price action.  When it was first introduced in 2006 it briefly ran up in price and has fallen ever since.  It is still falling now, so I don’t quite understand why CFK would pick it other than it looks like a classic falling knife play.  I’ll repeat my sermon from prior blog entries …  If you believe the market starts to fall from here, then consider this ETF.
