In black and red, Flamengo collected remarkable titles including the InterContinental Cup victory over Liverpool in 1981, same year when they won their only Copa Libertadores. Inside Brazilian borders however, they won 5 National leagues (80,82,83, 92,09) and uncountable State championships. In Rio their rivals are Fluminense, Botafogo and Vasco da Gama.

The most notable player in the club’s history was Zico.

The current squad presents a powerful atack with the “Imperatore” Adriano (ex-Internazionale, Sao Paulo, Parma) and Vagner Love (ex-CSKA Moscow, Palmeiras). In the midfield the key player for the 2009 successful campaign was the Serbian Petkovic.

Flamengo didn’t make it to the finals in the first part of 2010 Rio state championship and is focusing on the old dream of winning the Copa Libertadores again.

Among the most importants: FIFA World Cup (2006), Copa Libertadores (2006), and the Brazilian National League (75, 76, 79).

Both from the same region, Inter and Gremio present one of the most passionate rivalry in Brazil.

Playing in red jerseys, Internacional has formed world-famous players. Just to mention some you might (or should) know:

- Taffarel and Dunga – Brazilian Nationals (USA World Cup 94)

- Alexandre Pato (AC Milan) and  Nilmar (Villarreal)

Internacional has been able to keep a very competitive squad in the last few years, since the FIFA World Cup 2006 when they defeated Barcelona’s superstars in Japan.

Probably for being in the South part of the country close to Argentina, the Colorado seems to rely on players from that nationality.

From the current squad (2010), I’d mention the 3 hermanos D’Alessandro, Guiñazu and Abbondanzieri.
