!!!

Wow, another year has gone by. I just don’t get the time to update as I would like to.

Terra, our beautiful little girl, is about 3 ½ years old now. She is still the most lovable dog. She will lay with you and let you pet her for as long as you want. She just loves it when anyone pays attention to her. She loves going to the Promenade Shops to walk around and suck up any attention that people give her. Even when we go for walks at home; it doesn’t seem to be the walk she enjoys. It’s the people that stop to pet her that she enjoys most. And, the wonderful part is when we see her make someone smile who seems like they could really use it. She’s such a smart girl too. The pictures of her with the bone inside the tire…the first time she did that, we thought it happened by accident, but we have since seen her on many occasions pick up a bone and look for the tire and go put the bone in it to help support it for her. Terra is like a princess, but she can be a tomboy too when she rough houses with Cody. Of course, she’s not rough, but she can certainly take it from Cody. All of our animals teach us something. From Terra, we learn how to be happy even though you might really feel like crap some days. There are days when we know she isn’t feeling so well because of the diabetes, but we can generally get her to play anyway, and if she sees someone on one of those days, she still wears that beautiful smile of hers.

Cody certainly challenged us at the beginning with his house training, but he has turned out to be the best dog. He is with us two years now. He has his quirks, but he teaches us to be grateful for what we have. We see in him all the time how grateful he is just to have a home and the things we give him. His one little quirk is his acting out when he’s fearful. It generally occurs with other dogs; he starts barking like crazy. We have noticed it’s with mostly larger black dogs, but it does happen with other types sometimes (when they appear threatening). He is getting better though. It happens less frequently, and when it does happen, Tim gets him under control much more quickly now. Sitting in the vet’s waiting room is always training ground and walking the Promenade Shops is good training for him too. His other quirk is that car rides (which he absolutely loves) seem to make him have to go to the bathroom even if he has gone right before we left home. It must be the vibration of the car. Cody loves to run and retrieve. He seems like more of a retriever thanTerra is. She will run and play with him for a few minutes, but then she’s interested in whatever she can find to eat in the yard. Cody loves to wrestle with Terra. With his agility, Terra has no chance of winning.

Roo has been much more energetic (explained later) in recent months. It’s so nice to see her playful again. Roo is our mellow, laid back cat. She just takes whatever comes and is never nasty. She doesn’t like having to get put in her carrier to go to the vet, and that is the only time she puts up a fight. She loves to be out on our 2nd floor porch watching the birds. She will stay out there for hours if I let her. Recently, I went to check on her, and I see her staring with such intent toward our neighbor’s yard. I look over, and there sitting on the fence is a huge hawk. Hmm, no wonder I didn’t see any birds around. Roo loves Cody. It took her quite a while to warm up to him when he first joined us, but now, when he’s calm, she will go to him and rub her head on his face and even lick him. She then puts her head to his face. We believe she wants Cody to lick her, but he just isn’t a licker. Cody just lays there with big eyes seeming amazed at the attention Roo gives him.

Tigger is the queen and she rules the roost. Tigger has a habit of being nasty sometimes (I believe this is partly due to when she’s not feeling well). Then when she wants to be loved, she doesn’t understand why everyone backs away from her. Tigger tries to snuggle with Terra, but Terra doesn’t always let her because Terra is afraid of getting swatted if she moves or does something Tigger doesn’t like. She gets nasty when we try to do anything with her like trim nails, check her mouth or even brush her. She actually has made it worse on herself because she has to be taken to a groomer or the vet to have these things done. If you’re looking for a good groomer, see Dawn at One Stop Pet Shop in Emmaus. Of course, Tig doesn’t like going to those places, but there, she is so scared that they can do anything they want to her. I believe fear is a big part of her nastiness. Because she doesn’t want anyone to know she’s fearful, she plays the mean role (at home anyway). I always tell Tim that Tig is just misunderstood. She just wants to be loved. Tig is also the hunter even though she doesn’t roam outside. She likes to be out on our first floor deck so she is leashed. And, she manages to catch rodents while she’s on a leash. I totally freak out when she’s standing at the door with a mouse or mole in her mouth.

In April, my friend Joanne visited with her son Cody and her grandson Jay. Jay loves dogs, but sadly he is allergic to them. He breaks out in hives if he gets their saliva on him. So, we had to be careful that neither Terra or Cody licked him. I didn’t think it would be a problem because they don’t usually lick. But, for some reason, all Terra wanted to do was lick Jay’s hands. Cody wasn’t a problem though. He enjoyed having Joanne’s son Cody to rough house with him.

Medically, this year has been better than previous years. We’ve had our tough things to deal with, but we are ending on a good note. A lot of the credit for that goes to Susan Davis, a certified clinical nutritionist in California, who I found on the internet in May. I was researching to find something to help Roo with her high creatinine counts because they were continually increasing on blood tests that were done every few months. I found Susan’s website (see link on right side of page) and scheduled a phone consultation with her for Roo. She recommended a raw food diet and some supplements. The one in particular which we believe has really helped lower Roo’s creatinine is Renelix. It is a detoxifier than we give her every day, and what a difference it has made. A few days after we started giving it to her, she totally changed. She used to spend most of her time hidden away in a bedroom or the basement sleeping. Now, she is playful again and has so much more energy. Susan posted some comments from me with Roo’s picture on her website under the Renelix product.

Tigger had a blood test in October, and she also showed a slightly elevated creatinine count. We have been giving Tigger supplements also, and in a re-test that was just done this week, her creatinine has also come down. The change we see in Tigger is that she is not as nasty as she had been. I guess when she isn’t feeling well, she takes it out on everybody by being mean to them. We have seen much less hissing and swatting than we had been seeing.

Cody is doing much better with his low platelet counts from his autoimmune thrombocytopenia. Once again, this is thanks to Susan Davis. Cody is still on a very low dose of Prednisone every other day, but his platelet counts have increased dramatically. Susan recommended Marrow Plus which uses time-tested herbs that help to support the regeneration of blood. Cody was to take 1 tablet twice a day. Two days after we started it, he started vomiting and had diarrhea. Susan told us to discontinue it because some animals just can’t tolerate it. This devastated me because I was sure if Susan recommended it, it would help. After a month or so had gone by, I wondered if I could get Cody to tolerate it by giving him a much lower dose and very slowly increasing it. I thought, what do I have to lose, so I tried him on ½ of a tablet every other day. Initially, I think it did upset his stomach a bit because he would lick his lips and seem to not feel quite right. I gave him this dose for two weeks, and in that time, he didn’t seem to be nauseous anymore. I then gave him the ½ tablet every day for two weeks. I then went to ½ tablet one day, whole tablet the next day for two weeks. I continued very slowly increasing the dose until we got to where he should be. The low end of the normal range for platelets is 175,000. Cody’s platelets had been hovering around 100,000 on most tests. On his most recent test, his platelet count was 160,000. That is a 60% increase. He is almost into the normal range, and he has never really been there. We have recently added a product for Cody called Immune Harmony which is supposed to help balance the immune system. Cody’s immune system overreacts, and a lot of products boost the immune system which isn’t good for Cody. His immune system needs to be balanced, so with any luck, this will help do that. We would love to be able to get him off or at least reduce the Prednisone even more.

As in previous years, Terra has had her share of issues. Controlling the diabetes has been difficult, and I often thought it had something to do with the Vetsulin that she was on. In early November, production on Vetsulin was stopped because it wasn’t meeting specifications. This could cause hypoglycemia, and it explained why we were having issues with Terra going too low at times. She has been on Humulin N (a human insulin) since the day after Thanksgiving. She is not quite as low as she needs to be yet, but we are seeing much more stable numbers. It is a very good thing that Vetsulin had this problem because I believe Terra will be much better off on the new insulin. Recently she has been having issues with cysts. She had one removed in early October from between her toes. That’s the picture with the hot pink bandage. It took weeks for that to heal. Then she had a small one taken off her ear. Currently she has a nasty looking red lump on her lip which has been there for about six weeks. A sample of it was analyzed, and there are no cancer cells so we are trying to let her immune system take care of this one. Of course, with the diabetes, things heal very slowly. We are starting Terra on the Immune Harmony that Cody is taking so maybe it can help her immune system too.

We started going to Quakertown Veterinary Clinic (link on right wide of page) about a month ago. When our previous vet hadn’t decided what insulin to put Terra on two weeks after the news about Vetsulin came out, we decided it was time to change vets. On the recommendation of Margie from R Furry Friends Doggie Daycare (link on right side of page), we scheduled an appointment with Dr. Barin. Dr. Barin, Shauna, her assistant, and the other staff at QVC are great. Everyone is very friendly and acknowledges the animals while we’re waiting. Dr. Barin has seen all of our kids except Roo. Since Roo has been doing well, she isn’t due for anything for several months. Dr. Barin got Terra on the Humulin N insulin and never liked or used Vetsulin at all. Finally, someone agrees with the instability that we saw in Vetsulin. She is working with us to get Terra on the correct dose. And, Dr. Barin, we appreciate that you are interested in knowing about the things that we have learned in our research. I could never understand why other vets wouldn’t want to know what natural products we were using if they were producing good results in our pets so they could possibly help other animals that aren’t responding to conventional treatment. We also love that QVC is a 24 hour facility. That’s beneficial if we ever have an emergency because of Terra’s diabetes or anything else for that matter. If you are a patient there, you pay normal fees even if you have to go in on off hours. There are also a number of specialists on staff there, one of which is an ophthalmologist. This is a good thing in the event Terra ever develops cataracts because of the diabetes.

If you’ve read this far, thank you. It is always my intention to update more often, and it never seems to happen so this update ends up being very lengthy. I will end on that note.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone. We wish you all a happy, healthy New Year filled with peace and love.

My little boy, Supper, has been losing weight steadily for the past month. He’s currently down from his normal weight of 12lbs to just five.

This photo of him was from summer ‘08 and you can see how fat and beautiful he was (and how annoyed with our little foster kitten, DB, who thought the dry food bowl was a good place to take a nap).

Today, he’s hardly recognizable. He’s literally a walking skeleton and I don’t know why he’s still alive, except that he has strong will to live.

His symptoms have been increased hunger and severe weight loss despite eating more and more often. He will no sooner finish a big bowl of wet cat food than he’s back in the kitchen asking for more.

When he was at the vet the last time, his white blood cell count was 32,000, meaning he was fighting an infection of some sort.

My vet put him on Baytril, drew some blood and sent him home. His blood work came back relatively normal for a 12-14yr old cat. He has slight damage to his kidneys….normal for a cat his age, no sign of diabetes, and everything else was within normal ranges.

He was back at the vet today for another check up and this time my vet said it’s probably Hyper-thyroidism. Because of the holidays he couldn’t get the T1 test to the lab until Monday but he went ahead and put him on the prescribed meds, gave him a shot of B vitamins and another of iron. He said if that’s the problem, we’ll see improvement in ol Suppie within the next few days. He’s also on prescription AD. In fact, he wolfed down a whole can in the exam room.

I think my vet should have ordered the T1 the first time around, but that’s spilled milk. It’s been Suppie’s fight to survive that’s saved his life so far in my opinion. Every morning I wake up expecting to find him lying still on the floor. When I come home from work, I hold my breath as I open the door, not sure of what I’ll find.

You can always tell when a cat (or dog) is terminal..they slowly begin to lose the will to live until finally they either go on their own or let you know it’s time to help them take that final step.

It hasn’t been that way with Suppie. He wants to live. He acts like everything is pretty normal, except that he’s extremely thin. So I have to fight for his life too. I have to help him survive until he lets me know one day it’s time to let him go. It’s not time yet.

The tabby and white boy who adopted me a couple years ago and then decided he liked the big house next door better…even with the two lab mixes and Great Dane mix.

Well, Joanie recently sent me some photos of the old boy who has stolen her husband’s heart…and hers..but Simon is really David’s cat. Their Siamese is Joan’s.

Simon still prefers the out of doors, but comes in at night to the walkout basement to sleep on cold winter nights, where there’s a warm bed, food, and a space heater.

I told Joanie in the beginning that he was terrified of thunder storms. I knew then it wouldn’t be long before that little fuzzy face would pull at their heart strings…sitting at the window outside in the rain. So now when it rains, he gets to come inside.

He’s still happy and obviously healthy and much loved. It won’t be long before he’s sleeping at the foot of their bed. …oh wait…he is!

I bring this photo out every Christmas. It’s from 1991. It’s old, care-worn, dog-ear’ed, and in fact, I think I’ve lost the original in a box somewhere, but everytime I see it I have to laugh.

The kitten in the photo is Hanna, now deceased. Hanna was six weeks old when my roommate and I answered an ad for “free fluffy white kittens.”

My roomie wanted a white, longhair kitten, but when we got to the man’s house, Hanna was the only one left.

She was very thin and sickly; infested with fleas so badly she had flea anemia and a very bad upper respiratory infection, in addition to every kind of worm a kitten can have.

My roomie didn’t want her, but we took her home anyway.

My vet, Dr. Karen looked at her and said, “I’m fostering kittens at my house with URI that are not as sick this one and I’ve lost one of those already. She’s probably not going to live more than a few days.”

She packed me off with a host of stuff to try to keep her alive. Anti-biotics, anti-diahrea meds, eye cream for the eye “goop.” Then I ran to the store and picked up some Pedialyte, Gerber strained baby meats, KMR powder, and Nutra-cal.

Thus began weeks of nursing her back to health. It took a month before she began to turn a corner. For the first few weeks, she did nothing but sleep, take her meds, and eat…her eyes would barely open. Every morning, I’d have to clean the crusty, dried “goop” out of them so they could open a little and clean the dried snot out of her nostrils so she could breath. Throughout that time, she stayed quarantined in a room by herself in a little bed covered in blankets and whatever I could put over her to keep her warm.

Then one morning I went in to give her her meds and her eyes were wide open, clear and bright and she was walking around trying to play a little. She gradually got better after that.

This photo was taken just after her first Christmas. All throughout the holiday she had been very good not to mess with the tree and its decorations. The day I got the boxes out to begin taking the tree down, she was playing in the living room. I had gone back into the bedroom to get the rest of the boxes and had only left the room for a few minutes. Well it must have been enough time for Hannah to start “helping” me by taking the ornaments down herself because this is what I found when I came back.

Hannah lived a long and happy life and grew to be a beautiful longhair cat, afraid of no one and nothing. A favorite pass time for her was chasing large dogs down the street. Most dogs in the neighborhood were afraid of her. I miss Hannah. She was one of a kind.

In memory of Hannah, may your Christmas be joyous, peaceful,

healthy, and filled with love and wonder.

Mesothelioma is a very rare form cancer inflicting some people. Not all countries report cases of the disease. But did you know that there were reported cases of mesothelioma and granuloma among feline creatures?

Feline granuloma and mesothelioma are much more rare than human mesothelioma. Nevertheless, experts and researchers are turning more curious and interesting take on over the years. This is because there are too many issues and factors,The answer must be resolved and the case of the cat of granuloma and mesothelioma.

But first, it would be better if it is shorter, what must be the granuloma and mesothelioma. Secure your interest and curiosity would be further aroused if they are known causes of disease. One might ask the question: "How cats get these complaints?

Granuloma and mesothelioma

In medical terms granuloma and mesothelioma are twodifferent terms and diseases to living organisms, like mammals. To put it simply, is a clear distinction between the two. Granuloma is not caused by cancer or is often described as benign, while mesothelioma is unlike most of the time in question are malignant or cancerous and often lead to death of the individual.

Although the diseases are affected tissue in internal organs of the body, there are still differences. One thing is granuloma as a form of severeThe infection and can be easily treated. Secondly it, granuloma is so serious as mesothelioma.

For its part, is often caused malignant mesothelioma and death. Although diagnosed the prognosis or sentence or the possibility of survival, it is possible, landing the majority of cases reported in the death of the patient.

In order to understand mesothelioma better to try to understand their causes, and other related problems.

Mesothelioma, in focus

Mesothelioma is arare form of cancer, mesothelial tissue, or occurs in the sac lining of the chest. Research has shown that exposure to asbestos when the air is broken into very small fibers, not that people are aware inhaled.

Once the asbestos fibers reach the lungs, they enter and accumulate in tissues mesothelila. The process would not create significant adverse results overnight. Experts estimate that should take approximately two months prior to exposure of humansaccumulates sufficient asbestos fibers to develop a tumor that could lead to mesothelioma.

Striking is that there seems mesothelioma asbestos exposed person, about 20 or 30 years after exposure. This is the main reason that, on average, mesothelioma patients over 50 years to 70 years.

So, those who have been exposed to asbestos, and not suddenly feel the effects of exposure contribute to the substance untillot of time. Diagnosed in this way, in the past people with mesothelioma had, not without the disease in the context of their possible exposure to asbestos.

Mesothelioma in cats

Mesothelioma Feline, then, is another case. It feline mesothelioma caused by asbestos? If so, then the owner of the cat is also at risk of developing mesothelioma, in the future, it could also be exposed to the substance.

InThe cats, the cat was mesothelioma is disgnosed the age of seven to ten years. Weight Loss The most common symptom is drastic and sudden.

Veterinarians are still being researched, which can cause feline mesothelioma and granuloma, although some suggest that it may be caused by substances in the litter. Dust in boxes of litter may small amounts of asbestos, even if these ideas are still controlled.

Often the cats diagnosed with feline mesotheliomaCat granuloma or die in the end. This is difficult because the animals should be treated because of the complexity of their structures. Many vets also ask cat owners can only consent to the biopsy so the cat may also contribute to ongoing research about feline mesothelioma and granuloma.

Euthanasia is not a problem in sick animals, although animal rights can talk openly to oppose the idea. If your cat is diagnosed with mesothelioma or granuloma, and there are only a fewAbility to estimate, to make the decision, the cat, rather than donate money for the biopsy. At least the cat is dying for a good cause.

I have several reviews to post today but felt an explanation for my unexpected absence might be in order…

For reasons unknown to your humble feline foodie (that would be me) The Lady and The Man decided to move to a different manse…one a little smaller but newer than the old manse and still in the Pacific Northwest, aka “the-recently-too-damned-cold Pacific Northwest”.

I would also like to add that I was not once consulted regarding this move and I have not been a happy feline foodie the past few weeks… I left The Lady a gift one morning on the rug by my box and all she said was “Bad Spaulding Gray”… you’d think she could take a hint…

I don’t care for the sound of the tape dispenser building boxes to hold “stuff” wrapped in that amazingly annoying bubble wrap crap. The only good thing is that most of the boxes came from the Cheese Kiosk and all smell like cheese…now that I like…

We have been in the new manse about two weeks and yesterday I stepped out on the front door stoop and took in my first whiff of the new neighborhood… I caught a few faint scents of my new Brigade… a couple of them may have left me messages in the front yard…

Perhaps The Brain was The Brain behind this move and because I had completed my Observations in the quiet Knoll Heights neighborhood of Salmon Creek… he decided it was time for me to take on Orchards… I must be The Man… I mean, The Feline…

Hello Pet Lovers!

Yesterday I made up my first batch of test treats, “Minty Freshness”. The recipe took a little tweaking, but I managed to get a great first batch made. After they baked and cooled, I dipped some in carob (safe chocolate alternative for dogs), some in white chocolate, and some in both. They are ready to go out the door to be tested. If you would like to volunteer your pet or pets, cats or dogs, to be treat testers, please see my “Testers Needed” page for more information and an application. I am offering a one-time $5.00 Gift Certificate via email that can be used in my shop once it opens up. This Gift Certificate will not expire for one full year until after the date of issue, which will be the day I send it out to you in your email. Unfortunately, I can only offer this $5.00 Gift Certificate one time, despite how many treats your pet(s) test for K-9Lives Gourmet Pet Bakery©. But the tester treats are free to you, as well.

Today I will be putting a couple other recipes to the test. I haven’t quite decided which ones yet but I will be sure to share what I came up with.

Thanks for visiting!

Welcome Pet Lovers! This is the first post for K-9Lives Gourmet Pet Bakery©, a new and upcoming pet

Welcome Pet Lovers! This is the first post for K-9Lives Gourmet Pet Bakery©, a new and upcoming pet bakery. This bakery has been in the planning and replanning stages since 2006, and it is finally time to gear up to opening shop, so to speak, and get everything under way. Currently, I have plans to sell these wonderful products online only. I hope to expand out to other pet shops in the real near future, and in a couple years time I would like to open my very own brick and mortar shop. But for now, I am in the beginning stages of testing recipes to be sure they are well received and work.

Yes, I am looking for testers! If you are interested in becoming a tester with your furry friend, please visit my “Testers Needed” page for more information.

All you need to know about K-9Lives Gourmet Pet Bakery© is available here on this blog. In the next couple of weeks I will expand out to other online sources; like Twitter, Facebook, IndiePublic, MySpace, ArtFire (where you can purchase items), and Google Wave. Check back often to see what’s new and what I am up to in the kitchen.

You may be asking yourself, what sets K-9Lives Gourmet Pet Bakery© apart from all the other pet bakeries out there? It’s simple…

*LOVE: I love animals, all animals. I am always out feeding the stray cats, birds, squirrels, raccoons, and any other animal I think needs something to eat.

*DEDICATION: To animals. I feel if we can’t spoil our pets, why have them. I feel they are part of the family, sometimes more welcome than other. *wink* I believe our pets should feel welcomed in our homes, to sit on the couch, sleep in bed, hog the covers, and receive as much unconditional love as they give us.

*COMMITTMENT: When it comes to giving our pets treats, I feel that these treats should be of quality grade, not something you pick up from the dollar store. In the same sense, I also believe they should be affordable by all. I also believe we should have choices in flavors, instead of the same old same old. Sure K-9Lives Gourmet Pet Bakery© carries some of the every day flavors, but I have added in some really fun ones as well. Although I do use white chocolate and caramel in a couple of my treats as a coating, everything I bake are wheat-free, have no preservatives, and are all-natural ingredients. I am researching sugar-free alternatives that are safe for pets.

*FUN: I love to be creative and I love to bake. I hate to bake for my family too often, since I’m the one who ends up eating it all up, since I LOVE baked goods.

This is just the abbreviated version of my Mission Statement. Read the rest in my “Mission Statement“.

If you would like to contact me, please do so by emailing me at k9livesonline@gmail.com And please be sure to sign up for email updates from this blog.

Thank you for visiting K-9Lives Gourmet Pet Bakery©.

Experts estimate that should take approximately two months prior to exposurePerson accumulates sufficient asbestos fibers, a cancer that could lead to mesothelioma, develop.

Striking is that there seems mesothelioma asbestos exposed person, about 20 or 30 years after exposure. This is the main reason that, on average, mesothelioma patients over 50 years to 70 years.

Thus, people exposed to asbestos and would suddenly feel the impact of the BearExposure to the substance until a significant amount of time. Diagnosed in this way, in the past people with mesothelioma had, not without the disease in the context of their possible exposure to asbestos.

Mesothelioma in cats

Mesothelioma Feline, then, is another case. It is the feline mesothelioma caused by asbestos? If so, then the owner of the cat is also at risk of developing mesothelioma, in the future, because it couldalso exposed to the substance.

Cats could, mesothelioma disgnosed cat is aged between seven and ten years. Weight Loss The most common symptom is drastic and sudden.

Veterinarians are still being researched, which can cause feline mesothelioma and granuloma, although some suggest that it may be caused by substances in the litter. The formation of dust in cat litter boxes may contain small amounts of asbestos, even if these ideas tooreview.

Often, cats are diagnosed with mesothelioma or granuloma feline cat die in the end.

If your cat isDiagnosed with mesothelioma, or granulomas, and there are few opportunities for the weather, the decision to take the cat, rather than donate money for the biopsy. At least the cat is dying for a good cause.

The common wisdom used to be that we didn’t “own” cats.

We fed them, admired their beauty and enjoyed their company. We let them in and out of our homes with a degree of good humor, and we grieved for them after they left us, sometimes without ever really knowing what happened to them.

While we wouldn’t suggest telling your cat that he’s “owned” — because he still doesn’t think so — we can do a lot better by our cats than we ever have before. And that’s really true for older cats.

The popularity of cats has led to an explosion in knowledge of how to care for them at all stages of their lives, and geriatric care is no exception. Barring accidents, cats can live healthier, happier lives years longer than they ever have before — 10, 12, 14 years. Protected from the outside world, cats can live even longer, with 16, 18 and even 20 years — or more — a possibility.

But longer, happier lives do require effort on the part of cat owners. Sadly, study after study shows that cats aren’t seeing that effort: Pet owners dedicate more time and money into keeping their dogs healthy than their cats.

You love your older cat, right? So change that. Why throw away good years you could share? The place to start: a visit to your veterinarian.

Regular physicals — for geriatrics, twice a year is best — are even more important as your cat ages. These need to be more extensive than when your cat was younger: Your veterinarian may suggest blood and urine tests, for example, to determine what’s normal for your cat so that subsequent changes in the test values are more apparent.

Work with your veterinarian to address chronic health issues, or those that can lead to them. Key among them: Don’t let your cat be fat. Obesity shortens a cat’s life and makes the time they have less enjoyable.

You’ll need a plan, though, because you can’t starve a cat thin without risking serious health problems. So talk to your veterinarian and take it slowly.

Once you and your veterinarian have addressed all the health problems, you’ll want to keep your cat active and comfortable.

Play is important, even to older cats, but especially to indoor ones. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on toys to come up with ways to keep your cat busy. Cats can chase, hide, climb and explore with an endless variety of toys, many of them recycled household objects. Keep your older cat active, but avoid the flying leaps of youth. Shoot for low-impact play more often.

You’ll also want to make rest easier. Your cat may have problems getting up on to high beds or cat trees, so make sure there are plenty of low-level spaces for your cat to enjoy a good nap. Make litter boxes easier to get to as well, perhaps by adding them on every floor, even if your cat has been used to using stairs over the years.

The bottom line: Look at your aging cat in a new way, and do what it takes to accommodate the changes brought on by aging, with the help of your veterinarian.

You and your cat will both be happier for it!

Have you ever seen a more content cat as the one in this photo?

I’m not a cat but my hunch is that Smelvin (not sure whether the name is correct) really likes this wonderful tree house.
Little does he know that Amelia is about to smack the crap out of him because she also very much enjoys the tree house, just in a very different way.

Well, how can you not?! It’s just absolutely awesome for your feline friends to either snooze, climb, hide, ambush or pounce and it also has a really nice decorative value to it. It doesn’t have this awkward look that says: I know I should put this ugly scratch post into the laundry room but I have to put it here so they don’t scratch the back of the couch instead.

So you should really take a peek at the different models of cat trees from PetTreeHouses on Etsy.

And if you don’t have a cat, no problem! Either adopt one from your local shelter or get a tree house for your bird instead. Or maybe just talk to Shelley and Joe from PetTreeHouses to make you a custom one that fits your need.

Who am I as I walk this life striding with bold steps as I move towards my destiny I am a Stone Gole

Who am I as I walk this life striding with bold steps as I move towards my destiny
I am a Stone Golem to those that see me unnerving and imposing creating a path before
None venture close enough to see the cracks in the stone that have appeared over the course of life
Imperfections in design leave me weakened but they go unseen by those that fear someone unknown

My soul is Gemini through and true representing the good and bad that comes with that fame
I introduce you to one whose heart is as black as night and cares for only himself
To one who gets a job done no matter the cost or sacrifices that have to be made
He is one who commits statutory crimes with parents consent and leaves security hell bent
He’s your friend till you are no longer useful and is a danger to all around
Seducer, adultrer, women married or not ride the rod when it stands
Disciplined and sturdy overly brave and looking to have Satan fear him in his home
He is the one whose needs out weigh the many and with cold logic he makes his stand

Meet the twin that keeps him in check through sheer force of will
The one with a sick yellow fire burning in his heart barely keeping the dark one away
It is not strength of character but fear of loosing himself that represses the others desire
Inteligent, studious, well read, mental challenge is his favorite fun
Is willing to be the sacrificial lamb to make sure family and friends are safe
He is positive and radiates good will like golden rays of sun
He is loyal, but will stand with you ou of fear of him loosing face before you
A Poet, Lover, Musician, Singer, an artist, a tru disciple of what it means to be Gemini
A man who understands God is the only way

Together they are me and I am they no one indvidual
they fight to exist not knowing that becoming one would mean there salvation
To be a drunk then help a drunk is a the way of two souls
To prey on the weak then pray for the weak is a sign of contradiction in soul
To steal from a man then feed his child may seem like compassion from my soul
A soul that dosen’t know whether it is pleasant or evil but lives on any way

I have played in Paris and been shot at in da ‘Grove
I have tasted wines in Germany and drank beer from dirty backroom glasses
I have climbed to the top of mountains in triumph heart filled with pride
I have climbed down ladders illicit goods in hand and tears in my eye
To see me is to see contadiction and loose yourself to it
And to leave me alone in the twisted caverns of my soul

I realize now that my Gravatar my be intimidating… well, don’t be . There’s a story behind this pic.

So, first of all this is a picture of me . I took it at a very obscure angle with my cellphone camera, so it would be harder to identify who I am (so I could write whatever heck I want without inhibitions hahahahah!!).

GIMP logo

I meant this picture to look like a lion’s mane. I was inspired by how my hair looks when it’s naturally curly (i.e. no chemical treatments). I have so far Photoshopped the picture to look sharper, but I’m trying to change my hair color to shades of brown and orange and add make up to my face to look like some exotic feline.

I got this software called GIMP, which is supposed to function like Photoshop (but it’s free ), and I’m still working on understanding how it works. That’s gonna take a while, so I’ll just stick with the my current Emo version until the end of winter break (or until I graduate )
