*Disclaimer* My apologies for the swearing and cussing to come in the below post. My brain is just a lil’ sore from not understanding certain ways of thinking. Imagine how that violation might feel before you excuse it, ya know?

I wasn’t going to say anything about this Roman Polanski “youthful error” (my ass!) nonsense because I’ve already exhausted my vocal cords in anger. my knuckles may never return to normal color again after gripping my desk so God damn hard. this pathetic petition of entertainment’s greats are supporting a child rapist to either protect their own, watch their careers for future projects, and/or excuse his mess because he’s a “genius” behind the lense is absurd beyond belief. those are the excuses I’ve come up with and they’re just not good enough. I’ve admired these people – who I thought were somewhat intelligent people – and their work from afar since I understood what being an artist really meant. but then I saw this name:

Diane Von Furstenberg.

WTF, DVF?!?! SERIOUSLY? one of my all-time female icons who I’ve admired since college has become an utter disappointment. Guess all that charity work smacks of lies, deception, keeping up with appearances, and such, huh? I’m stunned by seeing her name. totally fucking stunned.

Natalie Portman.

Hello, hypocrite. did you not just film a rape scene for The Other Boleyn Girl marking it as one of the hardest moments in your career? WOW.

countless movies defining my personal pop culture experience and child-adulthood nostalgia (which means a lot to me) will officially never be thought of in the same way again.

maybe I’m wrong in believing that justice needs to be served to the now adult woman who was raped at 13-years-old after being fed into a champagne and drug induced stupor so Polanski could have his disgusting way with her. I thought that as a society we decided rape was a bad thing? what is this “age of consent” bullshit I keep hearing about? there is no age requirement for not allowing someone’s nonconsensual entrance in to your body!

FemBot has a quote from Robert Goolrick of The Beast, who was raped by his father, that is oddly reassuring.

Mine would be her if she wasn’t thousands of £. GQ are running a feature on ‘Fembots’ this month and above is one made by RealDoll (where you can customise your own doll right down to eye colour…) which is the kind that features in the film  ‘Lars and the Real Girl‘ starring Ryan Gosling.

Also featured this month is that girl who’s name starts with a Sienna and ends in a Miller.

What is with the creepy commercials recently?! The latest commercial to haunt our TV screens and disrupt our sleep is for the Palm Pre. These commercials center around a very pale, soft-spoken woman who shares stories that are completely unrelated to phones. They remind me of someone who just got totally baked and now wants to share an in-depth story about how something works.

The best description of this commercial’s unsettling nature was found in a blog post by Roberto Baldwin on Maclife.com: “The script isn’t soothing either. Bing, bing, bing, has officially replaced the Freddy Kruger nursery rhyme in my nightmares. If you’re goal was to frighten people, mission accomplished. I can’t even look at a Pre now without ending up in the fetal position under my desk mumbling about green lights and flow.”

Of course this series of commercials are not the first to put out the creepy vibe. Who can forget the King from Burger King. Created by Crispin Porter + Bogusky (CP+B) in 2003 to put a new spin on the original King from the 1960’s and 70’s. Having worked on set with “The King,” I can tell you he’s just as scary in real life.

Another one of CP+B’s creepy cast of characters came with the resurrection of Orville Redenbacher. Ken Wheaton of Adage.com has a great post relating the CG Redenbacher to a “dead-eyed zombie.”

One of the most controversial beer ads came about in 2007. It shows a fembot who produces a Heineken mini keg from her torso. This ad has been named by some to be the creepiest beer commercial of all time, and by others as the sexiest – I’m going with creepy.

We’ve had vampires selling smart phones, disturbing royal effigies pimping burgers, resurrected the dead for the sake of popcorn, and created a robotic flapper to serve us beer. I can’t wait to see what new and exciting ways advertisers will think to scare us away from their products in the future!

naturally we had to make an appearance at the val party so we got dolled up in our best disco gear and waited eagerly to see our favorite transexual.  granted it was a long sweaty wait in a sea full of gay men and their dedicated fag hags but finally the lovely blair waldorf herself popped into the dj booth.

2 words: drunk baby.

she played a few singles off her soon-to-be released album and then peaced out. i didn’t even get to touch her hair.  all was forgiven though because cazwell (the gay rapper featured in rupaul’s drag race) came on stage and soon after that her majesty lepore was fembot-ing it up in blue sequins.  all in all i’d say it was a successful mission.

Lady Gaga is actually a fembot.

This Sunday is Mother’s Day.  And at our church we are in a series called “Proverbs for Families” and we’re discussing wisdom issues pertinent to family life.  So we’ll be studying Proverbs 31:10-31 in a sermon I’m going to call “The Perfect Woman,” which has obvious application for Mother’s Day.

I began the bulk of my research today.  In doing so I ran across a headline in the London Sun about a Japanese-Canadian inventor who has created “the perfect wife,” a robot that the London Sun dubbed “She-3PO.”

The story begins like this: “She is the perfect wife, with the body of a page 3 pin-up and housekeeping skills that put TV’s Kim and Aggie to shame.  Her name is Aiko, she can even read a map, and will never, ever nag.  Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t she fellas?  And she is.  Aiko is actually a robot, a fantasy brought to life by inventor Le Trung.”   (http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article2023392.ece)  The story goes on to explain all of Aiko’s functions and potential functions, including the option to turn the robot into a sexual partner.

I’m not making this up!

The robot looks human, has been given the perfect figure, a pretty face, and shiny hair.  She can make dinner, clean the house, carry on a conversation, and recognize faces.  She talks to women and slaps men if they touch her.  And she lives in Le’s home and functions as his wife.

About the robot Le says, “Aiko doesn’t need holidays, food or rest, and will work almost 24 hours a day.  She is the perfect woman.”

When I read the article I must confess that I was shocked, offended, and humored at the same time.  You’ve got to wonder if this guy has ever had a girlfriend!  Maybe someone broke his heart.  Maybe he’s just a pig.  But even I’m smart enough not to describe the perfect woman as one who “doesn’t need holidays, food or rest, and will work almost 24 hours a day.”

It just goes to show you that even the smartest men in the world still don’t have a clue when it comes to women, right?

Although there is no such thing as the perfect woman, Proverbs 31:10-31 describes a virtuous woman as a rare treasure who can succeed in a male-dominated world, who cares about God’s world, who follows her moral compass, and who is worthy of praise.  God doesn’t expect anyone to be perfect, but He seems to be impressed by the truly virtuous woman.  So am I.

Ever wonder about the story behind the SVEDKA campaign?  I did, so I asked.  More specifically I asked about the story behind the Fembot, a.k.a. SKVEDKA_Grl.  The above photo of the ever futuristic sexy Fembot and the following commentary concerning the campaign and who created the concept was graciously supplied for background. 

What’s the story behind SVEDKA’s marketing campaign?

With our campaign, we’ve single-handedly differentiated SVEDKA from the crowd, by re-defining the category and offering up a contemporary, fresh voice.  When you look at the way other brands are communicating, they’re rather conservative, talking things like “heritage” and “tradition”.   That’s clearly not us.

We originally developed a campaign based on the platform of “adult entertainment” — not to be confused with pornography — this is ALL things adult entertainment-oriented (nightlife, fun, frolic, dining, dancing, drinking, shopping — you name it).  We then took that premise and set it in the year 2033, which has become a fantasy world and playground for our advertising and marketing team, headed up by veteran Marketing Guru, Marina Hahn.  Since no one owns the future, all things are possible for the SVEDKA brand.   

In 2033, there’s a female president, a 100-percent divorce rate; interplanetary dating is all the rage, and SVEDKA is the number one vodka.  By developing this platform, we’ve become a thought leader on the ‘future of adult entertainment’ and have allowed fun and irreverence to be our guides. Witty and irreverent, the campaign has caused a stir with the media and the public since its launch in the fall of 2005.

How did you come up with the Fembot?

With a marketing platform like “the future of adult entertainment,” we needed an extraordinary spokesperson.   A mere mortal simply wouldn’t do.   So enter our Fembot, SVEDKA_Grl.    In the spirit of SVEDKA, one thing we’ve never skimped on is funding creative excellence.  We brought in a virtual creative dream team to create our spokeswoman. 

Conceived by avant garde artist Charlie White in conjunction with Ad Agency Amalgamated and ultimately created by special effects genius Stan Winston of The Terminator and Edward Scissorhands fame, SVEDKA_Grl embodies the Future of Adult Entertainment and is the glue TO our campaign.   

The additional information about SVEDKA_Grl sent me on a search for more of her adverts.  This is one Fembot who pulls no punches as to what is going on in the world.  SVEDKA_Grl advertising covers politically charged topics of stem cell research with slogans of “SVEDKA The Choice of the Stem Cell Baby Boomer Generation in 2033.”  Or how about the amusing if not acerbic “Trophy Wife” advert?  Since SVEDKA suggests the year 2033 comes complete with a 100% divorce rate everyone will have a trophy wife; may as well make sure she’s built from the best.  Speaking of model perfect…SVEDKA_Grl touches on drive-thru plastic surgery for all those who need a lift.  There are more of course; global warming, gay men’s fashion gene and scientology.

HOT_BOT

2 ounces SVEDKA

Muddle 3 chunks of Dragonfruit

2 ounces morello cherry juice

1 ounce agave nectar

1/2 ounce lemon juice

Pinch of ground ginger

Pour all ingredients into a shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously for 5 seconds.  Strain into a glass and pour over ice. Garnish with a lemon twist

FUTURE_EX

1 ounce SVEDKA Vanilla

1 ounce SVEDKA

Cook rhubarb with water and sugar.  Let cool.  Yield 2 1/2 oz. of rhubarb juice

1 ounce grape juice

1/2 ounce fresh lime juice

1 ounce cranberry juice

Pour all ingredients into a shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously for 5 seconds.  Strain into a glass and pour over ice. Garnish with grape slices

DOUBLE TROUBLE

These cocktails complement each other – one is sweet and one is savory.

Left Cocktail:

1-1/2 ounce SVEDKA

3 slices of breakfast radishes

1-1/2 ounce agave nectar

2 ounces White Cranberry juice

Topped with a light beer

Muddle breakfast radishes.  Pour all ingredients into a shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously for 5 seconds.   Pour over ice. Top with light beer. Garnish with lemon peel.

Right cocktail:

2 ounces SVEDKA Clementine

3 chunks of Quince

1 Sage Leaf

1-1/4 ounce Liquified honey

1/4 ounce lemon juice

Muddle quince with sage leaf.  Pour all ingredients into a shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously for 5 seconds.  Strain into a glass and pour over ice.  Garnish with lemon peel.

Remember back in 2006, I blogged about the Actroid DER2 fembot from Sanrio, well fast forward two and a half years and now you get to see the state-of-the-art fembot (female robot), the HRP4C from AIST.  Really unbelievable right?

SBL’s Status of Women in the Profession Committee is offering a travel grant to women in biblical studies from developing nations.

CSWP sponsors travel grants for international women to attend the Annual Meeting. The grant provides transportation, hotel accommodations, and other expenses for women who would otherwise not be able to attend the Annual Meeting. CSWP members serve as hosts during the Annual Meeting and provide ongoing mentoring to grant recipients. Travel grant recipients share their experiences with women in their home countries and submit a report to CSWP.

Vandaag een stuk gelezen over een ‘nieuw soort vrouw’: de Fembot.

“Steeds meer vrouwen hebben geen behoefte aan knuffels, ze willen niet langer kwetsbaar zijn in een relatie of praten over gevoelens. Kortom, deze nieuwe vrouw lijkt qua relaties en omgaan met emoties steeds meer op de man. (…) De komst van de fembot is een evolutie van het feminisme. Al weer zo’n ontwikkeling die bijna ten einde loopt en nu pas opgemerkt wordt door de media.

Fembots zijn zo 2008. De vrouw van nu is de retro-vrouw. Past helemaal in het huidige tijdsbeeld, de vertrutting van onze samenleving en het verlangen naar vroeger. De retro-vrouw is een vrouw die met plezier kookt en het thuis gezellig maakt voor haar gezinnetje, vrienden en familie. Ze is niet graatmager, heeft een lekker vol en rond figuur en voelt zich supervrouwelijk. Designerkleding kan haar niet bekoren, ze shopt liever on-line bij H&M. Ze heeft een carriere, maar deze staat niet op nummer 1. De retro-vrouw houdt het bij 1-op-1 sex met haar eigen man en heeft geen zin (meer) in trio’s, parenclubs of kinky feesten. Voor haar vriendinnen organiseert de retro-vrouw stoute party’s bij haar thuis. Zo ontdekken ze de nieuwste speeltjes en gadgets voor dames en als de ladies night voorbij is, showt ze haar nieuwste aankopen exclusief aan haar man.

So, I’m a huge fan of the show Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and I tend to check out their blog after I watch the show each week. Generally, they talk about the episode about to air, or the episode that has just aired, but I found this post where they talk about real-world technology catching up to the fictional world of T:SCC:

In another scary case of real life catching up to our fictional world, The Sun recently profiled a Canadian inventor, Le Trung, credited with developing the first successful “fembot.” Let’s just hope no one gives Aiko her first 9mm anytime soon…
