Morda je prav zaradi njiju dobila malo posebno zamisel, izjavila je namreč, da bi vsaka ženska morala imeti dva moška: enega bolj kot ljubimca, drugega za prijatelja.

Kaj pa vem, moški znajo biti taki, da je včasih že eden preveč …

No, zvečer skočim v Trst na njeno razstavo. Komaj čakam.

This morning while washing dishes I looked out the window above my kitchen sink and saw a neighbor donning an old fashioned, bandanaprint gardening bonnet. As feeble as she is-must be in her 80’s-she ambles out to her vegetable garden each day with her cane and tends to her crops.

Ruminating on my childhood I could remember “ma” doing the same thing. I considered what happened to the reasonable utility bonnets that protected us from sun and heat exposure. The functional bonnet that kept a lady’s head cool by trapping perspiration inside, allowing the breeze to act as a cooling fan; maybe, in part that-in and of itself-was it. Imagine our “do” would be nothing more than an oily, flat sheen, plastered to our head.  Horrors!  After all, today, we have our sun hats, cutesy visors and designer bonnets for the 21st century’s trendy woman-all of which-will allow for the cutest hairdo to remain in tact.

But the flip side to our trendy style is, they really do not offer protection from the sun and elements, as does the utilitarian sunbonnet of old. Worth the cost? I dunno, since we as a people are becoming more concerned about healthy lifestyles and living longer, the old bonnet may win out over style to reduce the effects of sun damage – mainly skin cancer.

These thoughts took me down another path concerning headgear and hairdos; the headscarf. 

As spring first began in Southeast Texas, 2009, the winds carried a force to be recokened with-especially for ladies whose hair is “kept”.  A friend of mine owns a headscarf-you know the sheer ones made of a delicate cotton-poleyster blend-and she being a lady whose hair is kept, her scarf gets a lot of use. I so desparately wished at that time, and even now that I too, owned one. Nonetheless, she asked me if at anytime I came across these dying breeds to please pick up one. Since then, I find myself looking in every shop, boutique, flea market and garage sale for one, two or more of these protective treasures for ones head. Yet, none have been found. Perhaps e-bay or some online boutique may offer them-I’ll check and let you know. The very idea of being a ladies, lady-supposing that to be similar to a man’s, man-is just exactly what I wanna be; femine.

So…my musings today lead me to the conclusion that I think sunbonnets, headscarfs and other such stuff  are for me, how about you?

Ima čudovito galerijo, ki jo je na rečni most moževe ljubice Diane de Poitiers dala postaviti slovita zgodovinska hudoba Katarina Medičejska. Žal sem bila prelena, da bi se sprehodila dovolj daleč v enega izmed dveh vrtov (žena in ljubica sta seveda imeli vsaka svojega) in grad slikala v celoti.

Če se vsaj malo vživiš v usodo poročene ženske, ki je pri možu ves čas odrinjena in mora vedno nastopati v senci ljubice, morda kaj lažje razumeš vse Katarinine spletke (no, ali pa tudi ne …). Grad si je Katarina ves čas zelo želela, a ga je Henrik II. vseeno raje podaril svoji ljubici. Lahko si misliš, s kakšnim veseljem je Katarina moževo ljubico vrgla z gradu po njegovi smrti. No ja, tudi gradič, ki ga je Diane dobila v zameno, sploh ni slab …

A dvornim intrigam očitno še noče biti konca, čeprav sta obe dami mrtvi že več stoletij: v spalnici kraljeve ljubice Diane nad kaminom visi Katarinin portret … ???!!! Francoski smisel za humor? Ali morda francoski občutek za egalite’?

Kar se pa dvorne kuhinje tiče, mi je sedaj končno jasno, kje ilustratorji pravljic jemljejo navdih …

This is 2009 not 1989, women don’t have to know how to cook unless that what a man wants. There have been more men cooking for themselves than having a woman do it. This whole idea where women supposed to stay home and keep down the fort is stupid and really tired. Yea yea men expect a lot from us woman but sheesh why does cooking have to be a part of the equation? I know how to cook since I was 11 cause my family was strict and evil and they forced me to learn how to cook. I was fortunate enough I guess to know how to cook but other women aren’t as fortunate.

There are women out there who don’t even know how to boil eggs let alone boil water. They are doing just fine with themselves, so these men online who feel they can talk all this shit about what a woman is supposed to do cause they feel they are the dominant ones well you can kiss my ass. What are you men supposed to do exactly, work? Oh so common, so typical for me to think of that well that’s what I think of you men who feel women are supposed to stay in the damn kitchen and cook for you. I’m not knocking the women who enjoy doing that for their man but damn not every woman know how to cook or have to know how to cook. That’s your preference but that isn’t everyone’s preference.

I don’t know who or what raised you men out there with this type of ego but you need to get a grip on reality. Women don’t have to know how to cook and that’s a fact whether you want to believe it or not.

Ta Glavni je pripomnil, da je življenjska doba nekaterih njenih psov sumljivo kratka. Le kaj je Peggy počela s temi svojimi otroki?

It was a Pulitzer prize winning photo, taken by Kevin Carter, in the 1994 Sudan famine. This was a 5 year old child who had walked for hundreds of miles to a UN camp that was offering food relief. Just as he approached the site, having walked for days, his heart finally gave in and he died a slow death. The picture shows of him dying while the vulture patiently awaits him. We later heard that the photographer who took this picture, a British man having witnessed this atrociousness, committed suicide.

More than 30 children have died in a famine in Chin state, western Burma, according to the Chin National Council, an exile rights group.

The famine was caused by a plague of rats, which ate rice stocks in many of the state’s villages.

Another Chin group, the Chin Human Rights Organization, said the famine had hit about 20 percent of the state’s population, or at least 100,000 people.

“They have no food,” said Lian H Sakhong, a leader of the Chin Humanitarian and Relief Committee. “Unless we provide sufficient relief soon, the situation will become worse.”

He pleaded with donors to contact the Chin Humanitarian and Relief Committee so that relief can be rushed to the stricken areas.

The famine occurs about every 50 years when the flowering of a native species of bamboo gives rise to an explosion in the rat population. The International Rice Research Institute has warned of “widespread food shortages” because of the crisis.

44 children die of starvation; 2,000 flee to India

August 21, 2008 – Famine plaguing Chin state in western Burma killed 44 children after they were afflicted by malnutrition and diarrhea, according to Chin National Council’s secretary Pu Ralhnin. Faced with starvation around 2,000 people have fled to India.

“All the victims are children. They died from malnutrition and diarrhea, Pu Ralhnin said.

The children who died from malnutrition and diarrhea – as a result of food shortage in Chin state – are from Surngen, Tisen (A, B), Sentun, Ngalang, Lawngzuite, Lawngtlang villages in Thangtlang Township.

“Since they had nothing to eat, they looked for Yams in the jungle and had it as their daily meal. It led to malnutrition and diarrhea,” he added.

Meanwhile faced with starvation, around 2,000 villagers from Paletwa Township, one of the worst affected areas in Chin state have fled to Mizoram state in northeast India.

“I heard that around 2000 Khumi people from Paletwa region had arrived in some areas in Mizoram close to the Indo-Burma border because they are facing food shortage and there is nobody to help them,” Terah, coordinator of Chin Famine Emergency and Relief Committee based in Mizoram said.

The villagers belong to the Khumi tribe from famine hit areas in Paletwa township. They entered illegally to take refuge in Saiha district and Lawngtlai district in Mizoram.

Terah also said that most of the villagers from Paletwa Township are in search of whatever jobs are available in Mizoram for survival.

Bamboo flowering began on the Indo-Burma border in late 2006 leading to multiplication of rats in the region. The rats gradually invaded the farmlands and destroyed crops such as paddy and maize – the main staple food of Chin state.

As a result along the Indo-Burma border areas, over 100,000 people, heavily dependant on cultivation are facing food shortage.

Initially, the most affected areas were Paletwa, Matupi, Thangtlang township but later the phenomenon spread to northern Chin state.

Since early July, rodents started devouring crops in several farms of some areas in Tamu and Kalay Township in Sagaing division. The farmers were helpless, unable to contain the situation.

“Since early July, rats have been destroying several crops such as paddy and maize planted in farms in our villagers,” a villager from Khanpat said.

Despite the local authorities distributing rat poison to farmers in Kalay to prevent further spread of rats in the region, the farmers said that using the poison is no longer effective.

The Burmese regime said that it had provided rat poison and around 1000 bags of rice to the affected areas in Chin state.

The locals from the affected areas in Chin state denied that they had received any aid from local authorities. – KHONUMTHUNG.
