Today is Thanksgiving; time to say thanks for all the blessing that we had this year. Usually the thanks that we give are for good health, new job, or a new addition to the family, but sense this is a fashion blog I want to give thanks for all the great things about that we got in the fashion world in 2009.

First of all with 2009 came back elegance with a mix of Roman draping style during spring/ summer. Also during this season the comeback of ruffles everywhere and my favorite the return of one shoulder or asymmetric dresses. No one knows how much I wanted that style to come back and it finally did! Spring/ summer also brought us brighter colors back and a mixture of safari and fears animal patterns.

During this season also the accessories had great style. In shoes roman/ gladiator style was definitively IN, gold made a come back and the Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses surely confirm that this year was the year of the 80s comeback.

Every one remember how bad the 80s where for fashion, so during fall/winter 2009 the retro 80’s style came back with more elegance and better style. Layering is a most this season, just like during the 80’s blazers and motorcycle jackets are a most. Also jeans had a retro makeover, this time is all about slim or boyfriend cut. Another trend that I absolutely loved this season was the return of the combination of black and white in your outfit. Before this season combining black and white was very tricky because the outfit might have looked a bit waitress like, but thanks to the elegance of fall/ winter 2009 we don’t have that problem any more ( of course if you wear them right ). Also 2009 welcome the trend of sequins, now we can shine by accentuating our outfit with some sparkle sequins accessory, pants, top, dress or even shoes. And talking about shoes this fall / winter 09 is all about the boots, from flat ankle boots, to the very popular thigh high boots. And who can forget about the great accessories, wrist watches are a must, bold necklaces that I personally adore and finally a great beautiful option for animal lover faux fur!!!!

Personally I’m very thankful for the elegant Pick- a boo fendi handbag, the crazy Louis Vuitton high heels and the comeback of the classic Chanel 2.55. Also I’m extremely happy that even though they said that last season was their last season, project runaway came back YAY!!!!

One thing i didn’t like about the transformer movie is that sound wave didn’t get alot of time. Hes a major character in the transformer universe hopefully he gets some more burn in the next film.

This is an annual event that i always go to every year. Its good to see that the turn-outs are becoming better as the year goes by. Its always a good look for me i advise you if you are into the vintage clothing scene to check it out.  You can find out by going to the event why for the select few veiw this is a lifestyle rather than a fad.

To be honest, I have never really fancy their design till recently. Its one of those things where you find some goodies when you least expected.

I adore how the designer play with frills to give this otherwise plain black dress a new breath of life.

I have also recently ventured into the Fendi shoe department… and they are surprisingly very comfy!

Richie about town flaunting her Balenciaga. Such a versatile day bag for bohemians.

It’s no secret that the ubiquitous Balenciaga bag designed by Nicholas Ghesquire is one of many ”It” bags among celebs.  It has been for a few years and that is telling of the style’s endurance among those the Hollywood darlings that have short fashion attention spans.  Chi-chi girls collect them in every shade and trot them out like it’s not a thing.  Like the Hermes Birkin or the Fendi Baguette, it’s one that should be tucked away for safe-keeping to hand down to your daughters.  Definitely future vintage appeal. ie. “OMG, mom you were sooooo cool!” 

If Vogue was to do a feature on Must-Have bags over the century, this one would definitely be selected to epitomize the mid-2000’s.  The classic features motorcycle zippers, vintage lambskin, stud hardware and convertible straps.   There are variations of the famous style which range from clutch to two handled tote.  My personal favourite is the Giant Work style which comes in a delicous gelato rainbow of colours such as Praline, Maldives, Pebble, Raisin and Pomegranate.  Of late, I have been on my bestest behaviour in regards to fancy designer purchases but the Balenciaga has been on the top of the list of “Things to Buy When I Shame Spiral (instead of eating my feelings).”

Oh beloved Balenciaga.  How I adore thee. Let me count the ways.

Katsui graduated from Central Saint Martins College after studying at Parsons The New School for Design. Yagi graduated from Doshisha University and Central Saint Martins College.
The brand, mintdesigns was launched in 2001. They have been in Tokyo Collection since ‘03 S/S. The awards they won include the Moet et Chandon New Designer’s Award in 2005. In 2007, mintdesigns garage store opened in Shibuya PARCO. They presented their collection in the 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT THIS PLAY! show. In 2008, they presented the opening show at São Paulo Fashion Week for ‘09 S/S. Both designers currently hold positions as guest professors at the Faculty of Art and Design at Osaka Seikei University. In 2009 they presented their collection at the Milano Salone TOKYO FIBER ‘09.Mint Designs turned out a dainty crop of dresses featuring details such as shimmery stripes, textured fabric and quirky graphics. One frock featured a darling print of tiny Charlie Chaplins, while another showcased circular cutouts along the sides.

I love a good stormy rainy day!  I put on some jazz, open a bottle of red, and veg.  I guess I’m what you call an old soul.  Rainy weather also brings out new fashion items, like a fabulous trench and a great pair of rain boots.  Right now there are so many to choose from!!!

Well, fear not, simply look to Diane Kruger for inspiration and you won’t go wrong.

Pictured here at “The Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards” held in Hollywood, Diane wowed in a Fendi tuxedo jumpsuit.

The reason the jumpsuit works for her is simple, she follows three basic rules;

1. Stick to a block colour, any fussy patterns or designs are a no- no.

2. Make sure the cut shows off your shoulders. It needs to be revealing on top to balance all that fabric below.

3. Heels are a must. In order to create balance and proportion choose a sky-high pair. Metallic or a bright colour can work well and add some extra va-va voom!  

Also note Diane’s simple hair, fuss free make-up and minimal jewellery.

Anja Rubik has been announced as the new face for Fendi’s Spring campaign 2010.

My favorite fashion designer, artist and photographer is 76 years old German-born Karl Otto Lagerfeld. Both, Karl and I, are notorious workaholics – maybe that’s a German thing…

As well as designing for his own-named label and Chanel, this genius is the creative director of Fendi, an in-demand photographer and a celebrity in his own right.

Thank god Karl doesn’t consider retirement any time soon. He just said: ”The world can count on me for a long time. Retirement is not one of the topics with which I deal. Why should I? I still have so many projects that I sometimes don’t know where to begin. Chanel will still need some clothes when I’m 89.”

For Fendi’s Spring/Summer 2008 Collection, he showed his Fendi line on the actual Great Wall of China. I’m not a huge Fendi fan but I found myself super interested in the clothes.

I am learning that when giving advice sometimes people take it the wrong way. Now since we live in a world where is greatly based on opinions this is something that can happen.  Just when you think you are doing something for the greater good, the person can think you are talking down to them or trying to tell them what to do. All in all sometimes its much better to listen and chime in rather than state your overall opinion i guess.  Im not better than anyone but ive been through the lies false promises and everything else that goes bump in the night. Sometimes when you try to let some see that doesn’t go that way.  So take it from me peeps don’t go near the  deep water swim near the water you can handle because often times you will drown and not be heard of ever again. get my drift.
