I listen to Trance music in so many hours of my days and nights that it’s odd to be in a silent room. A recent project required me to make a logo for a night club, “Club Life”. This name is derived from Tiesto’s radio show in the Netherlands by the same name: “Tiesto’s Club Life”. Trance has been made famous by such artists including Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, David Guetta, Paul van Dyk, Robert Miles, Above & Beyond, Markus Schulz, Ferry Corsten, Gareth Emery, Sander Van Doorn, ATB, Paul Oakenfold, and many more. Club Life is for the trendy, night clubbers with a love for trance and dancing with friends or other lovers of this music style. For many years now, I’ve been a huge fan of trance music. I think there’s something ridiculously awesome about it, however it’s really hard to explain or discuss what it is. You can’t talk about it. Well, you can, it just does no good because what you really need to do is feel it; once you feel whatever it is about it that grabs your heart, then you can understand it.

Two of my personal favorite DJs of trance that I always absolutely recommend are Ferry Corsten and Armin van Buuren. I find their music to be incredible; it touches me personally, and it’s full of emotion and feeling. I will absolutely have more recommendations on this later. Some songs that have really struck me lately are Twice in a Blue Moon (off of Ferry’s TIABM album) as well as In and Out of Love and Fine Without You Now (from Armin van Buuren’s Imagine). Absolutely excellent.

Of course like with all music, this will change, but it’s helped me get through what I’ve been going through. I hope it brings some positivity to others as well, because people usually think “Oh ok, trance music, dance music you hear at a rave on drugs.” No, that’s not even it at all. You’d be surprised about when you’ll need to hear the music, feel the music; it gets your emotions and mood in ways typical radio hits don’t. It’s food for your soul, but you don’t know it until you find a particular genre you like (I’m suggesting trance, as it’s my most preferred and favorite) and I find trance to be something people can generally like. It’s an every day-whenever-you-need-it-at-whenever-moment thing. Not a rave thing. Not a club thing. It’s a life thing.

oui je sais, ça fait un baille…
Est-ce le fait de s’habituer a la vie d’ici qui fait moins ecrire et communiquer aux autres ? Je ne pense pas, au vu de mes autres collegues toujours aussi prolixes, Cecile et Cedric en tete.
Dès que je trouve la raison qui va bien je vous la communiquerai… sur ce blog.

Rassurez-vous, depuis Juillet il s’est quand même passé un minimum de choses.
Le 31 arrivaient ma mère et mon beau-père pour 2 semaines, a la decouverte de l’Ouest. J’y consacrerai un autre article (si…) car ce fut un voyage riche en aventures !

Le jour de leur départ arrivait… mon matériel de mix DJ ! Table de mixage, platines CDs, Enceintes de monitoring… bref l’ideal pour ecouter de la musique et perfectionner mes techniques.
Techniques que j’aurai l’occasion d’eprouver lors d’une soirée Trance Psychedelique dans un bar le 21 octobre, grâce à la rencontre de DJs locaux.

Le week-end du Labor Day arrivant, me voici reparti avec Cédric à la découverte du Sud de la Californie. Un passage à San Diego pour 1.5 jours / 2 nuits, puis virée à Los Angeles ! Un bon petit week-end mémorable.

Hollywood et moi

Puis un pote de promo Miage (Gilles, si tu nous regardes) est venu visiter les environs et me faire un coucou, avant que nous partions ensemble pour le week-end du 19-20 septembre au festival Symbiosis, un des plus gros festivals électroniques des environs. La encore, un week-end memorable a ecouter des artistes que j’attendais depuis longtemps, et a retrouver des amis parcourant le monde.

De retour de ce week-end, je célebrais (interieurement) mes 4 ans de presence chez Yahoo!, le 21.

Quelques semaines apres, c’etait au tour de Yohan et Erika de finir leur periple ouest americain a San Francisco. Je me suis donc greffé a leur groupe pour pouvoir faire un tour de limousine et profiter d’un bon repas aux Joulins, restaurant Jazz bistro d’inspiration Française.

A j’oubliais, auparavant le 3 octobre j’ai assisté avec plusieurs collègues de boulot a la LoveFest, la LoveParade de San Francisco. Bonne journée, suivi d’une bonne petite soirée Trance Psy dans un club de la ville.

Puis vint la celebration des 40 ans de Woodstock au Golden Gate Park, et la celebration d’Halloween.
Vous le savez peut-etre, je ne suis pas tres interesse par cette coutume d’ordinaire. Mais cette année j’ai quand meme voulu tester ca d’un peu plus pres, donc je suis allé louer un costume et hop, c’est parti pour le week-end !
Vendredi soir, soirée au Ruby Skye avec notre ami Ferry Corsten, puis samedi soir, house party (soirée privée) en compagnie de mon pote Thomas.

Rajoutez a cela quelques week-end tranquilles a rattrapper du sommeil, d’autres a parcourir la ville ou bruncher, encore d’autres a…bosser (c’est arrivé une ou 2 fois), et vous aurez un bon petit aperçu de ces derniers mois !

Au programme de ces prochaines semaines, un repas de pre-Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving itself, Noel et pour finir l’année en beauté, un petit voyage au Brésil pour le festival Universo Paralello !
De quoi passer mon premier reveillon du Jour de l’An au soleil, a mixer sur la plage…

Vous l’aurez compris, je ne prevois pas de retour en France avant la fin de l’année et vous allez me manquer, mais je prévois ça pour 2010 à coup sûr.

Une dernière chose et non des moindres, c’est maintenant officiel le site de Yahoo! Grenoble est amené a fermer dans les prochains mois. Apres son inauguration en octobre 2008, le site avait d’abord vu une separation d’avec Kelkoo (vendu fin 2008 à un fonds d’investissement Anglais), puis une vague de licenciements due a une restructuration a l’echelle mondiale du groupe.
Malgré les efforts de mes talentueux collegues pour valoriser le site alors inauguré par le Ministre de l’Economie en personne, la nouvelle strategie aura donc eu raison du site et 78 employes a temps plein sont a reclasser. Qui sait, pour certains ce sera peut-être l’occasion de venir nous rejoindre outre Atlantique…
D’ici là, j’ai bien évidemment une pensée triste et nostalgique pour mes collègues, même si je suis sûr que la plupart d’entre eux sauront rebondir de belle manière.

I guess I’m a little bit late with this review since the album came out on October 19 of this year. The original album was released at the beginning of this year, and a few remixes were made between then and now, but this album contains all new remixes which were never released. I thought the original album was not bad, ranking it somewhere between Above & Beyond’s Sirens of the Sea and Armin’s Imagine (though all 3 of these albums are better than Tiesto’s new work by far). In terms of remix work, this CD is pretty damn good. With established artists such as Lange, Markus Schulz, and Rafael Frost presenting their best remix capabilities, this album is packed with lots of goodies. Relative newcomers such as Sied van Riel, Ashley Wallbridge, and Ummet Ozcan also beef up the lineup of producers who are in the album. The overall feel is techy, and most of the songs sound darker with a little bit more edge to them. This remix album definitely rivals A&B’s Sirens Remixed album as one of the better remix albums. This is the first time I have heard of this guy, but I guess he’s a new kid on the block who has just broken out this year. Great work on this remix.

Fasiken vad den här helgen har rusat ifrån mig. Det positiva är att jag haft en kanonhelg. I fredags när jag kom till jobbet så stod det en flaska mousserande vin med ett gratulationskort på mitt skrivbord ifrån en kollega. Massor med kramar och gratulationer fick jag från alla håll och kanter. Mina närmsta vänner ringde och messade mig och det värmde mitt lilla hjärta. Det var inget jag hade förväntat mig då jag själv är så dålig på att hålla koll på allas födelesedagar.

Sambon kom och hälsade på och sedan drog vi gemensamt vidare till stureplan där vi möte upp mina bröder och gick till en intilliggande restaurang. Efter det drog vi hem till brorsan och han bjöd på en hel del drinkar. Två av hans polare dök upp och rart nog så sjöng alla fem killar för mig. Det var kul.

När klockan började närma sig halv tolv så ville de flesta gå ut och jag var lite tveksam men beslöt mig för att haka på så vi tog en taxi till storstad. Stället var inte så mycket att hurra över men vad vet jag om dagens inneställen.

Sedan åkte vi hem och jag bokstavligt tvärslocknade när vi väl kom hem. Tack alla ni som kom ihåg mig och förgyllde min dag.

Igår var jag bakis och hade en ganska kraftig ångest.

Ikväll kommer föräldrarna över på fika och jag tänkte bjuda dem på tårta. Sedan är det dags för ytterligare en händelserik och fullspäckad vecka. Mera om detta kommer sen.

The musicians featured on Twice In A Blue Moon Remixed have been hand picked by Ferry to provide new interpretations of his original work.

Over the past year Ferry has maintained his place in the DJ Magazine Top 100 poll, taking his radio show Corsten’s Countdown from strength to strength, and hosted his annual Full On Ferry – The Masquerade event.

Some would say: “Not another trance music blog!”. For sure there are many music blogs, but I will try to provide the most exciting news, newest videoclips and, of course, the latest episodes of trance radio shows (A State of Trance, Global DJ Broadcast, Corsten’s Countdown).

Comiensa Dieciembre Con un estreno de este año 2009 y es el turno para el3er Astro de Holanda con su evento “BACKSTAGE” Backstage es el evento que inicia a Ferry en losRavers Shows Concerts de maxima calidad audiovisual, en el que interactua por primeraocasion en el mundo “FULL ON FERRY” es decir que da cabida a que todas sus estrellas esten a su ladoLas ideologias de Ferry cada vez son mas fuertes a pesar de ser ya todo una estrella del Scene parece que el paso del tiempo no le ha afectado tanto como al 1er astro de Holanda (Tiesto) quien su nivel se ha estancado de manera dramatica sin tener nada realmente bueno en los ultimos años y que por algo el 2e Astro de Holanda (Armin) se ha apoderado del mandato mundial con su increible talento, pero cabe destacar que Ferry ha logrado por fin al ponerse al par de sus compatriotas con este espectaculo y un fabuloso e increible Racket Set que da muchisimo mas que un super concierto y que queda aqui comprobado En PlanetaMusical…..Enjoy

COMPLIMENTI ARMIN

:1: Armin Van Buuren

Terzo alloro consecutivo, eguaglia il record di Tiesto, e nell’anno in cui Tijs dice addio definitivamente al mondo della trance, si impone come unica e suprema guida spirituale dell’intero genere musicale. Questa è senza dubbio la vittoria più meritata di tutte: set eccellente al Trance energy, grandissima Universal Religion 4, svariati e ottimi remix, senza contare il costante e continuo apporto di A State Of Trance, vero e proprio punto di riferimento settimanale. Complimenti ANCORA Armin.

:2: Tiesto

Per l’ennesima volta sulla piazza d’onore, per quanto fatto quest’anno è una posizione anche fin troppo alta: album che ha deluso buona parte dei vecchi fan, una serie di remix anch’essi non eccezionali (se escludiamo quello di Calvin Harris e Summersault). Probabilmente ha conservato la sua posizione in virtù del massiccio sforzo che sta compiendo per farsi conoscere in Nord America, un mercato ancora saldamente nelle sue mani. Ma il Tiesto odierno è ormai solo un pallido ricordo di quello conosciuto ai tempi di Just Be

:3: David Guetta

E alla fine Guetta ce la fece a entrare sul podio. Musicalmente ha valore pressochè nullo, Love Is Gone, When Love Takes Over, sono tutti prodotti preconfezionati per le discoteche medie italiane e i tamarri di periferia, e nulla più. I suoi set sono un misto di pop e house senza alcun minimo senso logico. Ma si è giocato talmente bene le sue carte che la sua popolarità è talmente grande  da farlo arrivare così in alto, anche in una classifica un po’ più specializzata come questa.

:4: Above & Beyond

Sinceramente me li sareI aspettati in ribasso: per loro è stato un 2009 piuttosto opaco, con Sirens Of The Sea remixed come unico spunto degno di nota. Ma probabilmente la popolarità del loro radioshow gli ha permesso di tenere saldo il loro bacino di fans, garantendosi così anche per quest’anno il posto ai piedi del podio.

:5: Paul van Dyk

Questo è un risultato che mi ha lasciato parecchio con l’amaro in bocca. che io sia un fan irriducibile di PvD, è fuori da ogni discussione, ma quest’anno oggettivamente l’ho trovato ben più in forma rispetto alla parabola discendente in cui si era infilato: epica esibizione al Trance Energy, album celebrativo, vari buoni remix, come minimo me lo apsettavo al secondo posto, o al terzo. Vederlo al quinto mi ha lasciato piuttosto perplesso.

:6: Deadmau5

Questo mi lascia ancora più perplesso: ok, Joel è un buon dj, ha fatto un remix di I’m Not Alone carino, ma vederlo a fianco di gente che è sulla cresta dell’onda da quasi 20 anni è quantomento grottesco. Complimenti a lui, senza dubbio, per essere arrivato fino li, ma a mio modo di vedere dovrebbe dstare molto più in giù.

:7: Ferry Corsten

Se il risultato di PvD mi aveva deluso, quello di Ferry mi ha fatto letteralmente incazzare. Detto chiaro e tondo, era l’unico che quest’anno si meritasse il numero uno oltre ad Armin. Twice in A Blue Moon è un disco spaventoso. Ha pubblicato una serie di remix, uno più eccellente dell’altro. Ha fatto un tour mondiale di successo. Senza contare che si tratta di Ferry Corsten, una leggenda vivente! Eppure è sempre li, settimo posto anche quest’anno, in una classifica che non ha mai vinto, e purtroppo, non credo mai vincerà.

:8: Markus Schulz

Il grande Markus resta li anche quest’anno: nella progressive è il numero uno indiscusso, l’album pubblicato come Dakota è piaciuto abbastanza anche a me, che non sono un grande amante del genere. Posizione assolutamente meritata

:9: Gareth Emery

Contentissimo per il buon Gareth, che vede coronato un anno dove è stato assoluto protagonista. Per quanto mi riguarda è stato il miglior producer e remixer, allo stesso livello di Ferry Corsten, e il suo set a Milano di qualche settimana fa è stato eccellente. Continua così, nella speranza di regalarci una nuova Off The World

:10: Sander van Doorn

Anche sandrino ce lo ritroviamo in top ten. Quest’anno non mi ha entusiasmato particolarmente, se non per un paio di remix, tra cui quello di Spaceman. Ma sono comunque contento del suo risultato, mi è sempre piaciuto sia come dj, sia per il suo originale stile di produzione.

Per quanto riguarda gli altri: malissimo per i big di house e minimal, con i crolli di svariate posizioni di gente come Digweed, Sasha, Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin. Grandissimo balzo in avanti dei Cosmic Gate, che vedono loro riconosciuto un 2009 da protagonisti assoluti.  Stesso discorso per John O’ Callaghan e Simon Patterson, che assieme a Gareth completano il trio di eccellenti risultati per la trance britannica.

Al 113 troviamo gli Showtek, a cui vanno i più sentiti complimenti: non è facile per dei dj Hardstyle riuscire a entrare in classifica, essendo un genere infinitamente molto meno diffuso di techno house e trance. Al 147 infine ecco il nostro Manuel nazionale, che meritatamente riesce a entrare in graduatoria, viste le ottime produzioni ed esibizioni di questo 2009.

Anche quest’anno purtroppo in classifica non troviamo Giuseppe Ottaviani: un vero e proprio scandalo, se consideriamo che si tratta di un dei producer più bravi e dotati, e il suo album GO risulta essere uno dei migliori prodotti dell’ultima annata.
