Why is it night intensifies everything – from health challenges to hunger?

The past few days have been pretty much a blur for me: leaving the covers only for natural needs. I had lost sense of days and time in the process. Not that it had any importance to me, other than being vaguely aware I had missed my flight at some point. In the midst of these oblivious days and nights, jolting wide awake, famished, in the wee hours of a cold morning in perspiration is a little confusing. The fever seem to have finally broken.

It now means returning calls – not emails, that can wait until next year. I vaguely remember my brothers calling me – did I talk to them? It’s all a blur. I heard the door bell a few times. Maybe there are notes in the mailbox? I’m not a good patient. I don’t like to be bothered and just want to ride off the illness in silence. At the same time, I expect to have my needs met without having to communicate. Shouldn’t people know what I want – just be around me but not talk? I know, a terrible patient. All is not lost though. A couple of close friends have a key to my house and they showed themselves in and checked on me. There may be some soup in the fridge, goodies and chocolate in the kitchen. I smell flowers too. Awwww.

And now I have an intense craving for tom yum soup in this early hour of the morning: 4:55 am.

Can’t buy me love with diamonds but can with steaming hot soup right now!

In an electronic newsletter earlier this week, Karen Marie Moning revealed to fans the real-life inspiration behind her sexy “love, love to hate or hate to love” character Jericho Barrons, a mainstay of her fab FEVER series. It’s Eric Etebari, an athlete, model and actor who is probably best known for his role as Ian Nottingham in the TV series Witchblade.

KMM says she’s “long envisioned” Etebari as Barrons from the moment she saw him on Witchblade. “Dark, sexy, dangerous, complex, Eric Etebari played Ian Nottingham to perfection, served him up on a platter of enigma wrapped around sexual combustion, tied with a bow of playfulness matched only by his ruthlessness,” she writes. She has an interview with him on her Web site HERE.

What do you think? Is he your idea of JZB? Here’s a YouTube fan video of him playing Ian:

I received my Swine Flu vaccination yesterday at my local GP surgery due to having Cystic Fibrosis.

I received my Swine Flu vaccination yesterday at my local GP surgery due to having Cystic Fibrosis. Every year I have the normal flu vaccine, so this is simply an additional vaccine to add a tick to my checklist. However I was told that I would require two Pandemrix vaccinations, due in 3 weeks time.

Yesterday, I received the vaccine known as Pandemrix. There are two different vaccines, the one aforementioned and Celvapan.

I’ve been doing a bit of research on these two vaccines and here are my findings:

Pandemrix

Developed by pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline

Only one dosage required for 90% of recipients

Those with poor immune systems require 2 doses, one on day 1 and the next day 21

Contains inactivated H1N1 virus – This means that the virus is dead

Viruses used in Pandemrix is grown in hens eggs and contains traces of egg white

The defence is about 90% effective against the virus, although some studies suggest 100% effective

The reason this swine flu vaccine was authorised so quickly was due to data collected from a previous study of a different strain H5N1 which was classed as a “mock-up” vaccine

Common side effects include aching arms, fever, swelling and headaches

Having received the Pandemrix I did have an aching arm and feet a little congested (cold symptoms) but, apart from these slight ailments I feel fine.

Celvapan

Developed by pharmaceutical company Baxter

Contains inactivated H1N1 virus

Always given as two doses, at day 1 and day 21

The viruses used in Celvapan are grown in mammal cells

Isn’t as widely used because this was authorised for release a week after Pandemrix

Statistics show that the effectiveness of the vaccine is around 70%

A good alternative for pregnant women as it is preservative free so they can safely receive the vaccine – According to the website Mumsnet

This would be used for candidates allergic to egg, no good for vegetarians/vegans

Common side effects, similar to Pandemrix, include aching arms, fever, swelling and headaches

I can’t vouch for either of these vaccines and all I have done is collate the information freely available on the internet from various sources and placed it here. I have received the Pandemrix and are due to receive the other in 3 weeks and apart from a slight cold and achy arm I feel fine.

I’m a believer in preventing disease and staying as healthy as possible. I am naive though when it comes to receiving vaccines as I don’t ask questions or research the pharmaceutical companies offering the vaccines despite many bad press articles on some of them.

Today is funny… not funny good or funny bad– but just funny. I went to bed a bit before

Today is funny… not funny good or funny bad– but just funny. I went to bed a bit before 1am last night, and woke up around 4am in a really bad night sweat, only to realize that I had a fever and that it took all of the energy my recent sleep had collected, to sit myself up. I had some water, and couldn’t really hold my body up much more, so I let myself sink back into bed. A few hours later I woke up to a nightmare which I now only vaguely remember… but it had something to do with my new apartment and my relatives who live in the USA. It was, to say the least, a nonsense dream.
I then decided that, although I hadn’t slept to my goal hour in the morning, I would just lounge about in bed until then. As I rolled over to check my emails I saw another (of a recent series) cold, daunting email from my ex. I finally picked myself back up to write an upset email back to him, went outside for some fresh air, and told myself that I am better than this. I came back inside, tried to distract myself by reading what I thought was a book of humor, but it turns out, only some of the quotes are humorous! I showered, made myself some food (first time using the stove here!!! It was awesome! Heated up really fast and everything!), and sat down to work. And as I began, I heard a loud explosion, and looked out the window to see a very fat cat sitting on my window sill. It was bizarre. I have yet to understand what the explosion was, and I believe the fat cat belongs to my landlord. Anyway, what relates my morning to my thyroid is that with every step of this morning, my neck has had a different pain. It’s bizarre. Not to mention my body’s neutrophils being super pissed off at the radiation and giving me these fevers and weakness.

I’m heading off to Hamburg tomorrow, so I suspect this might be my last post before the Thyoliday Blues and Truths post on the 28th!

Stay tuned!

Style Note:

Okay, I have a confession to make. I seriously love this dress, very very very much! The moment I saw it and I screamed: “I got to have this in my blog!” and here it is. This Fendi’s light gray mottled cashmere is a casual yet elegant dress allows you to style any ways you like. What I am trying to create here is the look of a sweet casual chick. Couple it with the Oscar de la Renta’s double buckle leather belt that flaunts your silhouette and the pale gray on the dress is just simply perfect for Donna Karan’s black pouch bag that is indeed a bomb that will explode the envious desire of the people around you at the party, definitely! The accessories that I have picked for this look are the wild and rough hammered gold-toned cuff from Antik Batik and sweet and ladylike Lee Angel’s silver-toned drop earrings, pulling off a soft yet tough chic look. Well, if you are not the slim type, don’t you have to worry that as big girls are going to look equally amazing in the dress too, or even dangerous with the seductive curves, just like Beth Ditto!

Just watched the final of Battleground 2009, national street dance competition of Malaysia. After few months of registration, audition, preliminary rounds, and semi finals, finally, today is the final. Has been waiting for it for weeks, tonight is the show!

The final four teams are Katoon Network (new team, very humourous) , Dancologist (only full-girl team, attractive performances) , Elecoldxhot (previous champion, excellent choreography), and Wakaka Fever (only full-Malay team, fantastic B-Boy style and break dance).

After first round of intensifying atmosphere with crowds shouting for their favourites. Every team has their fans, carrying posters and banners, to give their full support, besides than screaming!!! Aaahhhh…all those girls and boys, I even saw aunties and uncles in the venue, which is the Euphoria, Ministry of Sound located in Sunway Pyramid.

First and second rounds which are themed on the past and the future had gone, and Wakaka Fever got the fourth place. Now, left three teams to move into next round. The next round is battle, very unique because it’s battle between three teams (usually we will have two teams for battle) It seems clearly that Dancologist does not have sufficient power to continue fighting. However, I like their performance in the first round, energetic, charming, and eye-catching. Hence, Katoon Network and Elecoldxhot went into final round.

The most intensifying round, everyone screamed until sorethroat (I believed) had finally came. Katoon Network is a new team. I thought at first, that this team is lack of experience, but they performed it very well. Everything is almost perfect, funny as usual especially the team leader. I really underestimated this team.

There comes my favourite team, Elecoldxhot which has the most number of fans too, because they are former champion, with addition of one new member. They performed very well also, very cool, very strategically-choreographed, precise movements, and I am surprised by the scene when everything is stopped, and the team leader took a shoe on the ground and put it back on his member’s foot. (since when that member left the shoe there, it is so fast)…as well as the final scene when all the team members left their shoe in the middle, kinda surprising and creative ending too.

However, too bad, this team lost, because people has high expectation on them since they won last year, and Katoon Network’s performance seems to be something fresh, new and funny, hence declared the winner. Anyway, both teams did very well, good job, awesome atmosphere, fantastic night, every year this event improved a lot…and now, waiting for Battleground 2010, which is one year ahead!

This show really gets my mood going, cool…not, its….hot…hot…hot…

In general chant specific mantras only when needed. Special mantras can be done all the time. Mantras mentioned below are organ-specific mantras.

Chant the five mantras together. This set of mantras improves thyroid also, which is responsible for all organs and stimulates all organs.

Om Hraam Namaha

This is good for heart. It can handle any heart problem. The heart vibrates exactly with this mantra. For BP do the Heart Mudra and chant this Mudra.

Om Hraim Namaha

Pronounce Hraim like crime. It works on our Kidneys and Urinary bladder.

Om Hreem Namaha

This stimulates the lungs. Therefore, this mantra is good for any lung problems. It reduces fever. For fever with cold, chant Om Hreem Namaha and Om Hraim Namaha.

If there is any problem with Ragu planet (if this planet is not in a favourable position) in horoscope keep Arugampul, which reduces ill effects of Ragu.

Om Hroom Namaha

This mantra takes care of Liver, Gall Bladder, Pancreas (secretes digestive enzymes), Spleen, Small Intestine and thus works for all digestive organs. This mantra heals Jaundice and provides us with vital essence. After too much eating chant the Chinese mantra ‘EE Joe’.

Om Hraum Namaha

This mantra heals Constipation and gas problems, and takes care of Large intestine, which eliminates wastage elements.

I did not want to admit this to myself or anyone else…but I am seriously sick

I am humongously swollen from head to toe. I feel sick and feverish. I feel like I weigh a bazillion pounds. Any strength I gained after the IVIg is gone and I’m worse off than before it. My head hurts. My guts hurt. My skin is creepy all over. The worst part is shortness of breath. Every little movement starts me gasping All my joints hurt. All my muscles hurt. Even with my o2 cranked up to 4, I still feel like I am suffocating.

I have no clue what is wrong. I need to call the doc. Tonight is the last straw. I am not coping well.

Like I said, I feel like a failure….as if it’s my fault that I am not better. While listening to scripture studies on BYU TV, something made me aware of the hopelessness about my health. I realized I was holding my muscles more rigid than I ought to. The more it hurts to breathe, the more I try to avoid it. I was unconsciously sort of holding my breath. That surely can’t be helping things.

IVIg was going to be what made me better. I’m feeling very discouraged right now.

It’s the season, right? Apparently, it is! Recently, a friend of mine got married, and no, it

It’s the season, right? Apparently, it is!

Recently, a friend of mine got married, and no, it wasn’t the fairy tale wedding every girl dreams of. I don’t even think it was her fairy tale wedding.

It seems as if everyone I know is getting either engaged or married. For some reason, people are suffering what I have come to call “Marriage Fever.” I still do not know how to explain it. I even caught myself looking at engagement rings and wedding dresses on a slow day at work. I had to consciously stop myself. The only good (perhaps) that came out of it was I know a lot more about diamonds now. Cut, color, prices, gradient. The whole shebang.

This phenomenon, of course, was a bit terrifying to the boyfriend. He managed to hide it well, but still, I found the best way to deal with it is to open a new folder for all my pictures of dresses, venues and rings instead of telling him what I found/liked.

Funny enough, after trying to dissect my recent tendencies toward Marriage Fever, I found that I mostly feel as if I am lagging behind. The fact that I have a long-term boyfriend seemed to add to my marriage anxiety.

Another friend of mine, who is also in a long-term relationship, agreed that as a woman, and as our shared upbringing taught us, we are feeling as if our clocks are ticking away. We’re only getting older (as my birthday was less than a week ago) and we’re discovering our “need” — if such a thing exists– to settle down.

On one hand, we have all these grand plans to work and live abroad, to built a successful career, and to attain the lifestyle we’ve always hungered for. Yet, we feel as if we should follow that little voice in our heads that says “conform”: Find a “suitable” husband, get married, settle down and have kids.

Our shared history puts us in too close a proximity to really see things from a different perspective. We are too alike. However, over the past year, we have been living in different countries, a thing that I believe has made us grow as people; although, it has not been pleasant all the time. Finding like-minded people is beyond difficult in this country of mine.

In any case, the cure to Marriage Fever is:

- Avoid engagement/marriage events at all costs, unless absolutely necessary

- Do not buy bridal magazines or watch romantic comedies about weddings

- Hang out with girlfriends, esp. single ones, and have a fun night out at least once a week

- Focus on advancing work/career

- Focus on personal interests/hobbies (esp. non-intellectual ones)

- Finally, do NOT compare your relationship to others.

You are at a place in your life that does not correspond with most people you know. Everyone’s experience is unique.

Just remember to remind yourself of that often!

It’s that time of year again and I’m unfortunately not talking about the holidays. With the return of winter come the sniffles, chills, fevers, runny noses, etc etc etc. Logan mentioned Tuesday evening at dinner that he was not feeling very well. After dinner he left the dinner table and joined his mother on the couch in the living room. He mentioned to his mother that he wasn’t feeling well and in the blink of an eye, out came his dinner onto the couch.

While Paula was cleaning up the mess on the couch, I heard Logan say he was gonna blow chunks again and paula yell “go into the bathroom….go into the bathroom….go into the bathroom! He ran into the bathroom but tossed his cookies before reaching the toilet. Cleaning up oranges and curded milk off half the bathroom floor sucks ass. Poor Paula! I was immune from cleaning puke as I was still eating my dinner at the kitchen table.

Along with tossing his cookies, he had a low grade fever as well. He really had a major case of the blahs! We put him to bed at 7:00pm with a glass of water and he ended up throwing up the water not once, not twice, but three times! The poor little guy couldn’t even hold down a little water. After I cleaned up puke from him and his floor and replaced his bedding, I brought him out onto the couch with me where we watched Food Network until about Midnight. He felt crappy and yucky and just wanted to be with someone while he felt that way.

Wednesday morning we kept him home from school and when he woke up he sprinted to the bathroom to blow chunks once again. He spent the day on the couch watching cartoons and trying to get better. As the day progressed he began feeling better and better. Thankfully in the late afternoon, he was able to hold liquids down. A couple hours later he was able to hold solid food down as well. Hopefully he will continue to do so. Tonight was his Christmas program at school which he unfortunately had to miss which is a total bummer!

We are planning on sending him back to school this morning if all goes well overnight and before school. I sure hope he is over whatever bug he had! He felt really crappy, yucky and had a major case of the blahs!

Very late to bed last night, and wakened very early by Son 2 aged 2y 3m in his cot “Mummeeee!” Son 1 aged 5y 2m was already upstairs in the Big Bed with us, and The Man showed no sign of waking or moving. So down I went. It was just before 6am, and I took Son 2 out of his cot and lay down with him in Son 1’s bed. We both went back to sleep. It was a miracle. I woke again at 7am. Not a creature was stirring. I went down to the kitchen and rang the phone next to the Big Bed to get The Man up.

Off to School went The Man and Son 1, and I needed to tidy up, clean up, put the washing on, shower, dress, do make up, sort out veg box and get ready to take Son 2 out. I have heard that all you have to do is put your child in front of the telly and off you go. Not Son 2. Every 7 minutes: “I don’ loik it!” “I don’ loik Ba Billder.” “I don’ loik Scooby Doo, Bit old for me.” “I don’ loik Wiggles.” ” I don’ loik CBeebies.” I was spending 10 minutes with him for every minute he watched telly. And yes of course I know that was the idea. In the end I switched the telly off, told him he wasn’t watching it and he could come downstairs and help me with the washing. He cried. He squealed. He banged down the stairs. He went up again. He switched the set back on, lay on the floor and watched CBeebies without complaint.

We met the Wednesday Friends at the Beach by the Garden. “You can’t go to the beach in December,” said the Nice Neighbour, leaving at the same time as us. “We couldn’t go in August,” I said. “So we thought we’d go today.” It was heavenly. We all live in houses exposed to bitter Easterly winds, so we were all wrapped up and so were our boys. But the Beach is sheltered, the water was flat, the sky was blue and in the sunshine we were all overheating. Son 2 was exhausted. “I wan’ go ‘ome. I wan’ go bed.” For the first time since he was born, I hadn’t brought the Big Pram. Which doubles up as a brilliant portable bed. In the end he sat on me and snuggled in a cave made from the coat I didn’t need it. When we got back home, he slept in The Big Bed for two hours. A daytime sleep with Son 2 is a rare treat, and I made the most of it. Cup of tea, read the paper and then sneak back upstairs into bed with him. When he woke up he cried and clung. I took his temperature. 38.6. Ah. An explanation for all that out-of-character snoozing.
