Remembered I actually had a gaming blog. I suppose that’s typical of someone who sucks at mult

Remembered I actually had a gaming blog. I suppose that’s typical of someone who sucks at multitasking and/or remembering the tasks. How is it that I am making it through college? Anyway, I’ll post what I thought about FFXII that I’ve already posted on a message board. For the most part, I am playing Digital Devil SaGa, Infinite Undiscovery and Lost Odyssey at the moment. Broken updates to ensue. And for the most part, think of my Xenosaga in-depthness dead. I have no interest in reading Zarathustra at the moment more than I am interested in getting rid of my backlog.

Pass: any game that, with its shortcomings, is enjoyable to an unexplained degree. (>.>)
Fail: any game that, with its shortcomings, is excessively mindnumbing. (<.<)

Final Fantasy XII – PS2
Grade: Pass
(7.0)

This is definitely not a game that lives up to the commercialized hype from Square-Enix. It was said to be a game that bridges old-schoolers and new-schoolers together. Yet, Final Fantasy XII appears to fuse together an anti-climatic storyline overshadowed by a lackluster group that frolicks around in massive environments. Regardless of its severe storyline and character downfalls, XII is still playable. Quite frankly, without the expansiveness of its gameplay, Final Fantasy XII would definitely fail.

The storyline is something left to be desired. Initially a story that appeared to be steeped in foreboding and interesting plot-twists, it becomes a story of predictability through spurts of good scenes and boring scenes. Though, I do admit that during the latter part of the game, the good scenes outweighed the boring. Without spoiling anything [though I don't believe I'm saving anyone], perhaps it was the pacing that emphasized the issues. The story’s pacing was slow. Come to think of it, it was difficult to create any “time” of the events in the game. With the increasing apprehensive nature of NPCs concerned with an outbreak of war, what I virtually did through exploration in the game seemed disconnected with the overarching story until reaching areas such as Golmore Jungle. The actual material and writing were beautiful. But the characters were empty. Ashe and Vaan specifically, for reasons of indecisiveness. The only outstanding characters that seemed independent, self-sufficient and perfectly motivated were Lord Larsa, Cid, Judge Gabranth, and Basch. Unfortunately, you’re stuck with characters like Vaan and Penelo who are just tagalongs, yet frequent in main scenes adding nothing but corny or useless lines. They should not be allowed to speak at all. The ending seemed fruitless too, but I suppose it’s perfectly justifiable in terms of the story’s execution.

Gameplay. The battle system is broken. Too frequently did I have to re-arrange my Gambits for my team members to do them in a timely fashion. The star quality to the Gambit system is not just simultaneous gameplay, but the removal of constant menu-ing. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Because you assign the Gambits in a numerical hierarchy, it appears that the percentages or effectiveness of them begins to stagger under certain conditions. For example, I made Penelo my primary mage. For some foggy reason, she would decide to attack a flying enemy with their weakpoint (the gambit was assigned at 6), yet my man Basch has about 650HP and is about to die. What? He dies? And she cancels her attack magic and decides to Arise him? What a waste of a move! It’s also noticeable that team members with Gambits On have quicker attack initiative than the member you’re manualing. The moves are cool, the magic is cool, and Quickenings are a Godsend to the initial 40 hours of trudging through dungeons upon dungeons with peaks and cracks of storyline. Battle is actually a drag then. It takes way too long to kill an enemy, and there’s plenty of times where you may wind up in the wrong area and get clobberd.

But, the system is essentially abuseable. Quickenings drastically increase your magic, and once you get the right Gambits and skills, battles become easy peasy. Boss battles are especially easy if you take interest in the best part of FFXII – its Hunt System. Not only do you get awesome items, great LP, great weapons, and plenty of loot to sell at the Bazaar to only get more awesome items and great weapons, but leveling isn’t much of a concern because it comes about easily. Plus, with the experience gained from the Hunt System, once you finish the Archadia arc, I reckon that you can instantly go through the game and not have to grind in the least, because the bosses are absolutely no challenge. This is especially great, because it increases your exposure to the storyline, rather than a dungeon or exploration taking up too much time. Quickenings sort of become useless. Once I finished my 35th Hunt (that was the last hunt), I never used a Quickening again. They are a waste of MP usage, especially when you need a Gambit to Curaga someone with HP < 40% consistently. Anyway. It’s definitely the Hunts that saved the game. Though I did enjoy going through every territory, I enjoyed it more when I obviously gained many good things from it. The imprint left from the Hunts is sort of odd though – there’s plenty of times where I didn’t even read the Hunt, but found the location, the person to talk to, killed it, got my shit and left.

The music is . . . I’d say the music is unfortunate. Though there are some great pieces I’d recommend to anyone, its implementation in exploring was definitely in the background. I suppose this is because it is atmospheric, though atmospheric =/= bad. The pieces chosen, and the unimportance of the environment if it was transitional, just does not stick to my memory. The music started getting better towards the end of the game; it seems like everything started getting better towards the end of the game and it just ended! Voice acting was grand. Though I didn’t prefer some particular voices, the intonations, speculations and etc expressed through tonal values and the accompanied accents worked very well. After thinking more about this game, I would really sort of fail it, but without ranting about how awesome the freedom was in exploring the environments and mechanisms to the Gambit system that weren’t frustrating, I’ll just leave you with a Pass. Everything was average, besides the story. Defintiely a playable game, but not exactly replayable unless you’re a masochist.

Am I the only one who thinks Vaan is the prettiest character of the whole game? He’s much prettier than the girls, anyone? Because hell…he’s pretty… I love him to death, but I guess Balthier is the only one who could pair up with him haaaaa……sorry, Fran…
I loved FF12, wish I can play again.
[Vaan is the first point of view. I wanted to change once in a while. Since it's two guys, he, his, and him are being used too much, too confusing.]

——————————————————————————————

I like the sun.

It would always make my hair shiny under the rays of light and make me happy under the ocean blue sky.
But somehow, today was not the day I wanted my hair to shine or feel happy about the sky, not at all; but the sun would not stop brightening the day nor would the sky stop being blue; mocking me?

I wanted to be alone today. Did I really want to be alone today? I really was not alone today.

Because form afar, I could hear footsteps creeping closer out from the bushes behind me, as I kept on ignoring and staring at the endless sea. The water waved hit the shore confronted the most tranquilizing sound to my mind, washing against the soles of my feet, coldly yet peacefully. It gave a smile on my face, but that was all…

“Vaan, so you were here.”
A familiar voice echoed with the ocean waves that I tried to blend in as an excuse of pretense. My hands were in the sand, slightly, faking to play, faking to be happy, faking to not hear, even when his arms were around me, I faked he was not here.
“I’m sorry, baby, I needed to leave for that business trip.” He paused. I sat (in his arms). His lips caressed my skin from the back up to the ear; I shuddered desirably as my cheeks became hot and reddened beneath my fair skin. “I’m sorry for canceling our plan.”
My head was blanked out by the touch of his lips, I exhaled slowly and abruptly stopped him. “Really?”
“Yes, really.”
“Or was it because of Fran?”
“What are you saying, babe, Fran is just my companion. I can’t possibly not help her when she needs me…” His hands rubbed my arms up and down gently, so gently, so unreal. I looked up. The wind started blowing, the waves started to rush up my feet again and again; I looked down, thinking, and turned my body around, breaking free from his embrace as I pushed him down in the sand, getting on top of him. “You’re not just messing with me…” I leaned closer to his face, and licked his lips, “..right?”
His cheeks turned faintly pink, unable to wipe off the surprise look off his face; I felt something hard nudging against my bottom. My face turned beet red, but I got up on my knees as my hand began to trace down from his chest to the hard-on below his belt; felt it. His hands grabbed my shoulders tightly, with a complete flushed face, and it ceased all my motions. A tear almost dripped down from my eye, he removed his one arm to elbow himself up, facing me now closer than ever, breathing heavily. His forehead leaned on against mine and he kissed the tip of my nose. “No. I would never.” My eyes grew tender as my eyebrows knitted, whether to believe or not, it did not matter anymore while he was already piercing through my heart with his tongue so skillfully gliding with mine as if asking for total seduction.

What to do now?

The breeze felt so nice against our skin, and I knew it. Because everywhere that felt so warm that it was burning off my skin were the places he had touched.
And I was pinned down into the sand with him on top of me, gazing deeply into my eyes as if he needed me to be lost into his.

“Then please love me more…”

Finally! At last! 120-some hours into Final Fantasy XII, I’ve finally beaten it!

Mind you, that included a heck of a lot of side-quests and two nights of auto-leveling up… but I digress.

I still say that the storyline itself left a lot to be desired. Certainly, there was a lot of drama and politics, but as for character development and relationships? Not too much there, I thought. Now, this game did get amazing reviews, mostly 10/10’s and 5/5’s, but I don’t know if I would have said that high. FFX? Maybe. FFIX? More likely still. But FFXII? Not so much.

I still enjoyed the game. The combat system, as I believe I’ve said, was new and fun, the side-quests were challenging, and the graphics, amazing. But the characters left so much to be desired.

Oh, and Vaan was way too feminine for my tastes; was he actually the main character? Maybe it was Ashe, or perhaps even Balthier was right, and HE was the main character. I don’t even know.

I was totally thinking, though, that in the end it would be princess-falls-for-thief, or something of the like, and I thought Penelo would be with Larsha; instead, Ashe ends up alone, Penelo with Vaan, and Larsha with… Basch, though Basch is his guard-type-guy. The whole Fran-Bathier thing was obvious and expected.

Still, it was a fun game, hence my hardcore hours spent playing it, so I’d still give it an 8-or-so out of 10.

Blargh!

So I finally left Phon Coast and went to Archadia. I have to say that I was fairly excited about a somewhat fetch-and-go quest that was in the city so I could reach another part. Having to get the chops was extremely easy; I was also able to read more about the culture of Archadia. I’m not exactly impressed by its design. I found the streets and areas I gained access to paled in comparison to my view of Archadia’s behemoth size and chance of exploration. But I found the aisles to be even thinner than that of Rabanastre which is such a larger city as far as experience is concerned.

I beat Cid on the first try. I’m at… level 38 pretty much and I haven’t gained a level since. I find the voice actor for Cid to be extremely awesome but otherwise I don’t see the hoopla over his character given his lack of direct involvement with the characters and his quick scenes. Otherwise I find Reddas to be a nice person – not exactly what I would call a pirate, but eh. So I found out that I’m somewhat near the end of the game and I need to start doing sidequests and hunts. I haven’t gotten but two Espers and haven’t had anyone learn it on their license board because I find Espers to be useless compared to my brute strength. For example, when I was fighting the Wyrm in the Westersands for a Hunt… called, the.. Wyrm that Tolls or something along those lines, I ended up using Belias. This meant I had to cycle in Fran, and underleveled character (about 30 since I equipped the double EXP item on her and for hunts I use my second party rather than my first) because I taught her Belias. He was taking out . . . roughly. . . . 1K to mid 1K on the Wyrm, when my Basch takes out mid 1K anyway (1.5K who cares?). But I did it anyway. That motherfucker sort of pissed me off. Regardless of my gambits, I don’t have too many items that prevent status ailments and I don’t have too many spells besides Esuna that are beneficial. Hell, I haven’t even taught offensive Green magicks to anyone yet.

So now I have to do quests and stuff because I’d rather not do them before the last fight. I figure I have about 15 more hours left where I am, which includes whatever side stuff I plan on doing then going straight through with the game. But if I proceed and cannot hang in the final dungeon, it will take me fooorreeever to beat the game. I have a final dungeon phobia where I just don’t feel like doing anything. So. That is my progress. At least it is progress. Maybe I’ll have the game done before I start back college in two weeks!

I’m at the Phon Coast and I know what I have to do. Prior to the Phon Coast, I leveled up maybe two spots for Vaan, Basch and Penelo at the Mosphoran Highwaste. Regardless of the extremely homogenous original stats that all of the characters come with, I find the suited roles I gave Bash and Penelo more fitting – warrior and mage. Penelo doesn’t have quite enough MP or the right Gambits for her to preserve necessary MP, but I’m greedy with Vaan anyways and’ll just run around so she can generate enough for the next field maps.

What am I currently doing? I am trying to get money. After fighting Berghan, I noticed – hey Julia, you need to get more equipment, more LP for equipment and stronger weapons. When I was in the Mosphoran Highwaste, I did an experiment. I turned Penelo’s gambits off, and she’s equiped with a stick – I just bought one at the Hunter’s Camp and forgot what it was called. Anyway, Basch is equiped with an axe and Vaan is sticking to tradition and only being versed in chivalry avec un sword. I just noticed that you can both steal a high level item from an enemy and poach them. Of course this means I negate all EXP and LP that I want, but in the light of money – poaching ten animals throughout a round of the environment costs me roughly 4,000 EXP which is fine since I normally yield more than 10K in gold. And that it is what I am doing now. Grinding. I’m not farming. what is this “farming” bullshit that’s leaked into console RPGs from fucking MMOs? I did a speed run throughout the Phon Coast to see what was next, which is – MORE PHON COAST. And then some plains. So. I have good grinding time ahead for myself. I need to somewhat level out the disparity in levels from Fran, Ashe and Balthier – It goes 34 – Vaan, 30, Balthier, 34 Basch, 27 Fran, 27 Ashe and 32 Penelo. I plan on reaching roughly L38 before I proceed to the next half of Phon Coast because of the grinding that is teh necessaire.

Also. Make sure you have Dispel prior to Phon Coast if you’re reading this. Life becomes much less of a hassle.

I’d get in depth about it, but I have FFXII and frustration to play with now. The biggest downside to GIII I thought was the latter pacing after beating the dungeon Melc towards the end of the game. I felt as if the levels gained were primarily through bosses, the treasure chests were fruitless except in Surmania and the random battles were only meant to fill up your orb if you wanted one.

Now, to FFXII.

…and the sad, solitary cricket prepares himself to leave me a comment…

Not much to update. Life goes on as usual. Work, Family, Food, Sleep. I did get a PS2 last week (yes…another one) and that has kept me busy in the wee hours of the morning. The schedule has been pretty routine as of late. Get up 6-7ish, work ’till around 4 or 5, come home, go back out for food or shopping (or to simply visit the dwarf rabbits at Pet Land) or to Blockbuster to rent $.99 old movies! And that brings us back to the house around 9-10ish, which is incidentally Josiah’s bedtime; and then off to Ivalice!

Yeah, I’ve been playing FFXII again (many thanks to Aaron and Steph), I never did get around to beating it the last time I had a PS2.

Side Note: I’ve always wondered how many final fantasies can one have? Kind of like…alright, this is the last one…finally, that’s it…well, okay, just one more…but then doesn’t that kind of kill the validity of the last “final” fantasy? Maybe I’m all alone on this one…oh well.

So, other than the daily grind and the dungeon grind, we have been endeavoring to finish ALL of our Commercialism-mas shopping within the span of two weeks. One of those weeks is already over and we still have half of our gifts left to purchase. I think we’ll make it.

Being the thrifty shoppers that we are, I can honestly say that we are usually done with all of our shopping by the beginning of November. This year, however, we were contemplating not giving gifts at all; for our own reasons (the same ones that bade us not vote earlier this month).

So, anyway, at the beginning of the month we were at the mall and all of the MSG injected goodness of the holiday season was starting to get the better of me…all those lights and trees were making me happy. And the look of utter joy that lit up Josiah’s face when we let him go say hi to Santa really tipped the scales A LOT. The one that put it over for all of us was watching Elf again. So, that is how Will Farrel single-handedly saved our Christmas.

Now we’ve had to pull it all together and here we are.

One way I have found to really help reduce the holiday shopping stress is to do all of our shopping during the week, when no one else has money/are in work or school or both (‘nother shout out to Steph and Aaron!)

My main character is LordStrife and my guild is the SeraphicKnights. I’m under Mercury and usually in server 17. Here’s the site, http://cabal.ogplanet.com/main.og

Henne Mines (Zona Secreta) – Pithead Function 6

1- Ally: Status: KO = Arise

2- Ally: HP 50% = Curaja

3- Foe: Undead = Sleepga

4- Foe: Sleep= Curaja

Y si quieres puedes usar faith y protectga. Activa el mecanismo y empezarán a salir Abysteels (30 aprox.) y los gambits harán su trabajo. Cuando los mates retrocede 2 zonas y vuelve a ir.

Bueno, espero que les haya servido. Yo subi a 99 con este método.
