Ich muss gestehen, dass es mir noch ein wenig schwer fällt, mich von meinem ganze Kram zu trennen. Klar, kann ich nur begrenzt Sachen mit in die USA nehmen oder einlagern, aber schwer fällt es doch. So habe ich mich heute von meinen ganzen Kuscheltieren getrennt, die ich der Kinderstation der Diako geschenkt habe. Zwei meiner Pflanzen mussten auch schon gehen, was nicht ganz einfach war (wie das Foto zeigt ). Kommendes Wochenende geht es dann aber erst richtig los und dann kann ich mich davor auch nicht mehr drücken. Bin mal gespannt, wie viele Kartons zusammen kommen. Es dürfen gerne Schätzungen abgegeben werden.

08.20      Oraşul e aproape pustiu . Vântul se izbeşte de lozinci , contorsionându-le . Ca într-un joc de strategie , până acum au fost doborâte steguleţele galbene şi verzi . Apoi s-a mutat . Galbenele s-au repoziţionat lângă roşii şi atacă pe flancuri portocaliile . Se dă zdravăn la picioare şi ţipetele de durere sau de satisfacţie sânt întâmpinate cu urale . Afişele pălesc pe zi ce trece şi slujbaşii primăriei le primenesc , tot mai posaci, tot mai lipsiţi de chef . Trec pe lângă bancă . Cineva a întins în faţa ei pe un panou uriaş zeci de portrete ale preşedintelui . Privit  dintr-o parte , pare un miriapod lălâu , strecurându-se spre ieşire . Dau nas în nas cu T . E supărată rău ; abia de-mi răspunde la salut . Îmi arată cu mâna afişele şi panourile înţepenite pe stâlpi . -Bine că au bani pentru prostiile astea…îmi spune , tata e internat în spital şi nimeni nu ştie acum ce tratament să-i dea . Ar trebui , mai întâi de toate să-i facă un RMN cerebral , dar spitalul n-a primit bani să cumpere aparatul şi tata e netransportabil . Nu sânt bani nici pentru medicamente , zilnic trebuie să-i cumpăr soluţii perfuzabile şi pansamente sterile . Nu ştiu ce să-i spun şi dau doar din cap .   Ea îşi potriveşte mai bine şalul şi mai priveşte o dată faţa surâzătoare a preşedintelui . Pleacă . O uşă uitată deschisă scârţâie , purtată de vânt şi oraşul e tot mai pustiu .

10,45       Nu departe de catedrală , în spatele unui bloc , un om al străzii şi-a făcut un adăpost din nişte panouri . Mă întreb dacă nu riscă nimic pentru că încalcă legea electorală dar îmi amintesc că am văzut la tv cum un adolescent , crescut la casa de copii a votat de două ori , ca să poată ajunge după gratii , unde măcar poate să mănânce pe săturate . Un poliţist comunitar , apăsat şi el de ale lui trece fără să-l privească . În parcarea mare din faţa poştei , zeci de autocare fornăie nerăbdătoare . 6 decembrie e chiar după colţ .

14 .30   Holul e aiuritor de lung şi prin geamurile opace , lumina se strecoară greoi . După câteva minute simt o dorinţă de nestăvilit să ies dar ştiu că nu o să găsesc o zi mai potrivită pentru a-mi obţine avizele . Instituţia publică pare pustie . Intru în birou la C.  E cald şi miroase a cafea . Ne cunoaştem de mult , aşa că îi spun pentru ce am venit .Dă din cap părând a zice că problemele lui sânt cu mult mai grave . …Tocmai s-a încheiat şedinţa … ne-au întrebat…Vă e bine ? , Cum să nu ne fie bine ? vezi şi tu , un aviz , o deplasare , o primă…Dacă vă e bine , aveţi de grijă cum votaţi şi voi şi familiile voastre şi prietenii . Dacă vin ceilalţi se sparge gaşca…Nevasă-mea nici nu vrea să audă de Băsescu…cred că-mi iau câmpii , îmi spune . Apoi se uită la mine şi mă întreabă…dar tu cu cine eşti  ? Din celălalt colţ al biroului , unul cu figură de şoarece se opreşte din lucru . Îl văd cu coada ochiului cum priveşte numai de formă ecranul computerului şi-mi aşteaptă răspunsul . Mi-e din ce în ce mai cald . Doamna cu multe dioptrii de la biroul de alături se face că-şi caută ceva prin sertar . Încerc să aduc vorba despre aviz . Şoarecul dă sentinţa…e de-al lui Geoană . Protestez mai mult de formă . Doamna de alături  îşi focalizează  dioptriile pe mine . O simt portocalie până în măduva oaselor şi dau să eschivez . C . iese cu cererea mea şi aştept . Doamna şi şoarecul mă măsoară rând pe rând . Încerc să spun că nu le sânt duşman . Pur şi simplu m-am plictisit de  Băsescu şi în turul 2 aş vota şi un pavian numai să scap de el . De fapt de câţiva ani , la prezidenţiale numai asta fac , le explic . În 2000 am votat împotriva lui Vadim , în 2004  , împotriva lui  Năstase şi acum aş vota şi un ficus şi un pavian , numai să pot să văd că se schimbă ceva. Nu-i impresionez şi căldura e tot mai mare . Şoarecul are cravată portocalie şi un ceas enorm la mână . C îmi aduce avizul semnat . Doamna cu dioptrii e posacă şi nu-mi aruncă nici o privire  . Pe hol mă întâlnesc cu şeful instituţiei . Îmi răspunde la salut , ceea ce e foarte nou şi-l simt fals amabil şi  resemnat  . În cele din urmă reuşesc să ies . De pe panoul uriaş şi portocaliu , preşedintele se uită cu un ochi la mine şi cu celălalt la restaurantul din colţ . Pe străzi , furnici  portocalii şi roşii şi galbene , ridică  baricade . De o parte ai noştri , de cealaltă ,  ai lor şi vântul urcă baloanele cu lozinci până ce soarele devine şi el un balon desumflat plutind  spre nicăieri .

FICUS MACROPHYLLA Donnafugata

Ficus Macrophylla, nota anche come ficus magnolie o fico della baia di Moreton. E’ un grande albero sempreverde della famiglia delle Moraceae, nel suo habitat naturale può crescere fino a 60 metri di altezza. E’ una pianta tipica delle foreste pluviali, e in questo ambiente si accresce spesso in forma di rampicante parassita, che propaga le sue radici attorno all’albero.

L’aspetto più caratteristico è dovuto allo sviluppo dei suoi rami di radici aeree fulcranti che, raggiungendo il terreno si trasformano in tronchi supplementari, tipo pilastri che sorreggono il peso dell’albero.

Le foglie simili a quelle della Magnolia, sono larghe, lucide nella parte superiore, argentee in quella inferiore, lunghe da 10 a 25 cm. IL frutto è un Siconio Edibile, simile a quello del ficus comune (di forma ovoidale) lungo 2 cm, di colore verde che maturo diventa violaceo con chiazze giallo-verdi, prodotto solo da alberi maturi cresciuti all’aperto.

La specie è originaria degli Stati Australiani del Qeensland e del Galles del Sud.

Il nome MoretonBoy Fig deriva dall’omonima baia Australiana.In Italia è stato introdotto in Sicilia e propagato in diversi orti botanici e parchi.

मैनहन में वृक्षारोपड़ करते हुए

आपरेशन ग्रीन कार्यक्रम मैनहन

३१ अगस्त,सन २००१, मैनहन (खीरी)

सरकार के एक कार्यक्रम आपरेशन ग्रीन के तहत मैने अपने गांव में तकरीबन १००० वृक्षॊं की रोपाई की, इस कार्यक्रम में उत्तर प्रदेश के वन-निगम के प्रबन्ध-निदेशक श्री आर०पी० सिंह ने अध्यक्षता की उनकी मौजूदगी नें खेरी के वन-विभाग को सक्रिय कर दिया था और सभी आला अफ़सरान मैनहन में पहले से उपस्थित थे, गांव के प्राथमिक विद्यालय में इस विशाल सभा का आयोजन हुआ और मितौली से मैनहन तक स्वागत द्वार बनाये गये, यह सारी व्यवस्था मेरे जिम्मे थी, कार्यक्रम की शुरूवात सरस्वती वंदना से हुई और फ़िर सभी आगुन्तको ने हमारे गांव के लोगों को संबोधित किया, वृक्षारोपण के मह्त्व बताये और वन-विभाग के सभी अधिकारियों व कर्मचारियों ने पौधे रोपे, एक नीम का वृक्ष प्रबन्ध निदेशक ने रोपित किया और उस पेड़ की जगह एक पट्टिका लगवाई गई जिसे मै शहर से बनवाकर ले गया था उस पर महोदय का नाम लिखा हुआ था, स्कूल से पौधारोपड़ की शुरूवात हुई और फ़िर मेरी तमाम जगहों मे पौधे रोपे गये, जिनमें आम, नीम, सेमल आदि थे, सेमल के अधिक वृक्ष मुझे प्रदान किए गये थे चूकिं इनका व्यवसायिक महत्व है सो मैने तमाम वृक्ष वितिरित कर दिए।

मेरे गांव में मेरे द्वारा आयोजित यह प्रथम कार्यक्रम था, शुरूवात में तो लोग कौतूहल पूर्वक मेरी गतिविधि देख रहे थे कि आखिर रोज़-रोज़ वन-विभाग के अफ़सर क्यों आते है क्या तैयारिया हो रही है किन्तु उन्होने कुछ ज्यादा उत्सुकता नही दिखाई किन्तु जब आयोजन की सभी तैयारिया पूर्ण हो गयी तो सभी ने प्रेम से शिरकत की और मुझे उत्साहित भी किया,  ग्रामीणों का सहयोग भी मुझे मिला।  यहां यह बताना जरूरी है कि इस कार्यक्रम के तहत रोपे गये तकरीबन १००० पौधों में से मात्र ४०-५० पौधे ही आज विकसित हो पाये, इसे मै अपनी असफ़लता ही कहूंगा।

हां और वह पट्टिका जो प्रंबध-निदेशक जी के सम्मान में लाई गयी थी, मुझसे कहा गया कि इसे अभी उखाड लो पेड़ जब बड़ा हो जाये तो लगा देना किन्तु कुछ दिन बाद वह पेड़ ही वहा से उखड़ गया जिसे महोदय ने रोपा था तो पट्टिका कहां लगे और पट्टिका आज भी जंग लगी हुई मेरे गांव के घर मेम रखी है उसे जब देखता हूं तो………………

यहां श्रीमती इन्दिरा गांधी की एक बात याद आती है ।

स्कूल में रोपे गये पौधे सुरक्षा के अभाव में ग्रामीणॊं व उनके मवेशियों द्वारा नष्ट कर दिये गये क्योकि उनकी उचित देखभाल नही हो सकी, जबकि सार्वजनिक स्थल पर लगे इन पौधों की सुरक्षा सबकी जिम्मेवारी थी।

खैर मेरी व्यक्तिगत भूमि पर जो पौधे लगाये गयें खेतों आदि में उन्हे पड़ोसी किसानों ने नीलगाय पर तोहमत लगाकर उखाड दिया गया ताकि पड़ॊसी के खेत में छाया न लगे और फ़सल प्रभावित न हो, लेकिन सेमल के पौधे इतना नही छितरते की वह सूरज की रोशनी को रोक सके। किन्तु मुझे इस बात की खुशी है कि जिन आस-पास के गांव वालों ने इन पेड़ों को मेरे खेतो से उखाड़ कर अपने घर-दुआर में रोपित किया और इनकी देखभाल की और वह पौधे अब वृक्ष में तब्दील हो गये है, यह जानकर प्रसन्नता होती है और मैं अपने आप को कुछ-कुछ सफ़ल पाता हूं। मुझे उनकी यह चोरी बड़ी सुन्दर लगी।

इस बेहतरीन कार्य में मेरा सहयोग देने वालों में मेरे गांव के लोगों में बड़े भाई श्री सुधाकर शुक्ल जी, दाऊ श्री रामावध शुक्ल जी, दाऊश्री परमेश्वरदीन जी, दाऊ श्री(स्व०) बेंचेलाल पाण्डेय जी (पूर्व प्रधान), दाऊ श्री शिवदयाल मिश्र जी, बाबा (स्व०)मुन्ना लाल शुक्ल जी, इसके अलावा मेरे कार्यकर्ता जिन्होने शारीरिक श्रम का योगदान दिया, और मेरे सभी मित्र गण जिनकी भागीदारी महत्वपूर्ण रही। मैनहन के अतिरिक्त तमाम गांवों के लोगो ने जो शिरकत की उनमें चाचा श्री बलबीर सिंह(पूर्व ब्लाक प्रमुख), गुरू जी श्री वी०पी० सिंह जी, कविवर कंटक जी, वनाधिकारी नकवी जी, उदयभान सिंह जी, मित्र श्री अमित श्रीवास्तव जी, अमित गुप्ता जी, विद्यालय के अद्यायपक गण आदि का मै कृतज्ञ हूं।

इस कार्यक्रम का मुझे जो सबसे ज्यादा फ़ायदा मिला वह यह कि सभी आदरणीय ग्रामजनों की उपस्थित और उनकी शक्लॊं का कैमरे में कैद हो जाना, इस आनी-जानी दुनिया में वो चेहरे मेरे पास जीवित रहेंगे उन तस्वीरों के रूप में।

अब मैने वृहद स्तर पर यह कार्य न करके प्रत्येक वर्ष कुछ प्रजातियों का रोपण करता हूं, और उनमें से अधिकतर पौधे लगातार वृद्धि कर रहे है, मेरी पहली पसन्द है बरगद, पीपल, पाकड़, उसके बाद कुछ और………..और यही वृक्ष मेरी मां को भी पसन्द है।

O tapiá, árvore comum nas capoeiras paulistanas, sombreia o alpendre

Esse passeio é ainda mais desconhecido do que a figueira-das-lágrimas para o paulistano apreciador das árvores.  Dentro de uma praça que ocupa um quarteirão, a Casa Bandeirista do Caxingui é uma das raríssimas casas rurais de São Paulo remanescentes do século 17.

Mas a atração não se restringe a construção histórica. A vegetação se destaca por duas espécies tradicionais da nossa flora paulistana original e atualmente quase extintas: a figueira (Ficus organensis) e a araucária (Araucaria angustifolia). Com isso, forma-se um cenário realmente dos primeiros séculos de colonização no Planalto.

As figueiras são provavelmente muito antigas pelo porte e aparência. Já deviam acompanhar a  casa quando tudo ali era zona rural, antes da Companhia City lotear a área em 1937. Hoje a bela construção e suas espessas paredes de taipa-de-pilão pertencem a Prefeitura, tombada desde 1983.

O renque de araucárias, formação muito escassa na cidade, deve ter mais de 50 anos e completa a paisagem. Entretanto, muitas espécies estrangeiras invasoras estão descaracterizando a vegetação típica da Casa e escondendo, por exemplo, a figueira. Precisam ser removidas.  No lugar, poderia se plantar exemplares de canela-preta (Ocotea catharinensis) a madeira de preferência usada na época.

Ficus Yang Tumbuh di Bebatuan

Pernahkah Anda melihat dan mengamati akar pohon beringin (ficus). Lihatlah bagaimana bentuk dan penjalaran akar beringin. Akar beringin selalu menyesuaikan dengan bentuk dan ukuran batang dan bentuk cabangnya. Bila cabang menjulur condong ke selatan, maka akar beingin akar ikut tumbuh ke selatan. Selain itu, bentuk dan arah akar beringin berfungsi untuk menopang berat pohon bagian atas. Cengkaraman akar yang menonjol di permukaan tanah ini bukti kuat bahwa pohon beringin akan kokoh menghadapi tantangan lingkungan yang akan bisa menumbangkannya. Hampir semua orang mengatakan, beringin mampu tumbuh di atas batu. Batu yang keras atau bukit berbatu malah menjadi tempat yang nyaman bagi beringin untuk tumbuh. Sungguh menakjubkan karena batu sama sekali bukan tempat yang cocok bagi hampir semua makhluk hidup untuk tumbuh dan berkembang biak. Rahasia mengapa pohon beringin dapat tumbuh di atas batu adalah kemampuan akarnya mencengkram, menelusup, melunakkan dan menjadikan batu menjadi tanah. Batu yang dianggap sebagai penghambat tumbuhnya pohon, bagi beringin merupakan tantangan untuk bisa bertahan dan berkembang. Maka lihatlah betapa menakjubkan bentuk akar beringin yang menjalar dan menembus batu. Akar beringin mencari air dengan menembus celah-celah batu hingga bisa menembus bagian luar batu. Bukit batu yang tadinya tampak gersang dan kering kerontang mulai menghijau. Lambat laun air mulai menetes dari celah-celah batu dan lumut pun mulai tumbuh. Beringin dengan akarnya yang khas telah menjadikan kawasan gunung berbatu sebagai kawasan sumber air. Luar biasa. Sahabat, beringin mengajarkan pada manusia untuk tidak menyerah pada lingkungan yang keras, terbatas bahkan menyakitkan. Sekecil apapun peluang, modal dan penyokong hidup yang kita miliki harusnya menjadi pemicu untuk tetap tumbuh. Celah-celah kecil peluang yang ada harus kita manfaatkan sehingga mampu menembus kokohnya halangan atau rintangan hidup. Namun, bila kesuksesan mulai berkembang dan menjulang, jangan melupakan pijakan dan cengkraman diri agar tidak tumbang oleh tantangan luar. Sebab makin membesar dan menjulang prestasi serta karir kita, terpaan ujian akan maikin keras. Maka sesuaikan berkembangnya kesuksesan kita dengan pondasi dan cengkraman iman yang juga kuat. Maka keindahan bentuk pondasi hidup yang menjalar dan mencengkram kuat di “batu” d kita akan meneteskan manfaat berupa kejernihan “air” dan kesegaran “udara” manfaat bagi banyak orang.

Ieri è stato il compleano di una mia carissima amica e ho voluto regalare un ficus il ficus benjamina. Una pianta fantastica e adatta per stare in salotto.
Il ficus benjamin è originario delle zone tropicali dell’Asia, dove può raggiungere dimensioni considerevoli, anche di 15-20 metri, mentre in appartamento si mantiene entro una altezza di due o tre metri. I rami sono sottili e le foglie ellittiche e acuminate verso la punta, lucide e cerose. Sviluppano molte radici, anche aeree, che spesso fuoriescono dal vaso. In natura produce piccoli frutti globosi, neri, larghi circa un paio di centimetri, simili a piccoli fichi.

Questo tipo di ficus deve essere annaffiato periodicamente e abbondantemente e poi mi hanno consigliato di mettere del concime ogni 15-20 giorni, per aiutare la pianta a fortificarsi e irrobustirsi. Se volete fare un bel regalo per un pollice verde, il ficus benjamin è la pianta adatta a voi.

On a tous eu un âge où l’on imaginait sérieusement que nos peluches pouvaient très bien parler, si l’envie leur en prenait. La pensée magique est une phase naturelle du développement de l’enfant.

Le souci c’est quand le phénomène persiste, passé 26 ans.

En me réveillant ce matin, l’espace d’une demi-seconde, j’ai pensé Tiens, le ficus essaie d’ouvrir la fenêtre, avant de me souvenir que je l’avais posé là hier soir, pour pouvoir passer l’aspirateur.

Et le pire, quelqu’un, tu veux que je te dise ?

C’est que j’étais déçue.

* je sais, ce n’est pas vraiment un ficus, mais “ficus” est le seul nom de plante que je connais, avec “cactus” (et de toute évidence ce n’est pas non plus un cactus)

     A trebuit s-o fac! Nu mai aveam loc de tine. Nu mi-a fost usor sa te macelaresc, sa-ti frang pornirile, sa-ti tai cresterile, sa vad cum iti curge sangele alb pe gresie.

     Trebuie sa intelegi ca detin un spatiu limitat, ca oricat de mult te-as iubi, nu pot sa te las liber, sa te intinzi peste tot, mai sunt si altii in viata mea care au nevoie de loc si de mine.

     Ti-am facut rau, te-am ranit, dragul meu, iar tu o sa cresti in ciuda mea si mai mare si mai frumos, nebunule! Te ador!

     Erai 2 frunze fara varf, pe 5 lei te-am cumparat acum 8 ani dintr-o piata din Bucuresti. Esti o planta comuna, as fi putut sa te iau gratis de oriunde, dar te-am vrut pe tine. Aveai si ai cele mai frumoase frunze pe care le-am vazut vreodata la un ficus. Exista dragoste la prima vedere, fie ea si pentru o planta!

     Esti preferatul meu, imi place sa te mangai, sa-ti vorbesc despre Soare si tu-l iubesti la fel ca mine, poate intr-o zi o sa va cunoasteti!

Descemos do ônibus na Av. del Libertador, próximo ao Parque Thays. Claro que fomos um pouco mais adiante para ver a escultura gigantesca em bronze de um bruço de homem muito forte, muita bunda e no peru, uma pequena folhinha da árvore que tem por toda Buenos Aires, e a Mari, com mais uma de suas pérolas, disse ser eucalipto! Agora, procurando no Google, descobri que a escultura é de autoria do colombiano Fernando Botero. Pena que nossa guia estava preocupada com o horário e nem nos disse que mais um pouco, depois do prédio da Faculdade de Direito, fica a grande flor metálica, um monumento lindíssimo de Buenos Aires.

O Recoleta é o bairro em Buenos Aires, dos que eu conheci, que achei inspirar mais arte. É um lugar gostoso de se estar!

No caminho para o restaurante (a fome apertou), encontramos dois cachorros (durante toda a viagem vimos muitos cães e alguns merecem destaque aqui) que chamaram nossa atenção. Um é da raça do Conan, cachorro do Fabrício e as fotos foram feitas especialmente para o Fá. O outro era um vira-lata com seu dono vira-lata também. Para quem acha que isso só tem no Brasil, se engana!

Outro ângulo:

Resolvemos comer antes de irmos ao cemitério. A Mari foi quem escolheu o restaurante e nos levou em uma chopperia artesanal, com carnes muito gostosas. A praça que atravessamos para chegar no cemitério e nos restaurantes é linda também, com ficus muito antigos (final do século XVIII), árvores grandes e lindas e gramados que dá vontade de ficar ali deitada olhando pro céu pra sempre!

Mais um exemplo típico de arborização inútil em São Paulo. Cenas como a acima, infelizmente, estão cada vez mais comuns nas nossas calçadas. Nos locais onde a Prefeitura não implantou árvores adequadas, a população em um gesto de boa-vontade, acaba plantando o popular ficus (Ficus benjamina – família Moraceae – origem Ásia) totalmente inadequado para calçadas e o equilíbrio ambiental e, para piorar, ainda faz podas horripilantes e desnecessárias como essas acima, formando as “árvores-cotonetes” que não trazem nenhum serviço ambiental para os pedestres e a metrópole.

Na Zona Leste de São Paulo, a região menos arborizada da cidade e onde a foto foi tirada, em frente a igreja do Cambuci (ironicamente) o ficus já é tranquilamente a árvore mais presente nos passeios. 

Quando essas plantas estiverem adultas, não vão faltar encanamentos, pisos, asfalto e fundações arrebentados. Quem dera se tivéssemos cambucis no lugar dos ” ficus cotonetes”.

Mi s-a parut o initiativa salutara, desi multe companii incearca sa faca CSR prin mediu, prin ecologie. Ceea ce mi s-a parut deosebit la ei este faptul ca au un concept numit The Lab alcatuit din personalitati romane ce pot avea un cuvant de spus in acest domeniu, ce recomanda acest tip de angajament.

La final, am primit un ficus verde si frumos de care ar fi dragut sa avem grija acasa.

Zilele acestea am mai participat la interviurile de grup de la ASER, unde o data cu fiecare interviu, cu fiecare echipa de oameni pe care ii vedem, invatam cate ceva de la ei, prin ei, cu ajutorul lor.

Ceea ce mi se pare magic la recrutarile ASER este faptul ca poti sa iti dai seama, sa te autotestezi cat de bine poti interpreta grimase, atitudini, zambete, gesturi, idei, propuneri. Raspunsul nu il primesti pe loc, ci in timp sau, uneori, niciodata.

Ceea ce am facut anul trecut, am sa fac si anul acesta.

Anul trecut am ales, mai mult in subconstient, cateva persoane care mi s-au parut interesante. Acum, dupa un an, dupa ce am urmarit modul in care au crescut in ASER sau poate nu, modul in care au relationat cu ceilalti sau poate nu, pot sa imi dau seama daca modul in care percep oamenii este relevant sau nu.

In fiecare an, ASER creste cativa ficusi, ca cei daruiti de Ogilvy.

Prin grija, prietenie, bucurie, deschidere, dar si traininguri, workshopuri, proiecte, ASER hraneste o mana de oameni care mai departe ajung sa creasca mai departe si alte plantute.

This is Samantha the Ficus tree in my foyer. She’s very sensitive. Nothing I ever do seems to make her happy. Maybe if you follow along with me for awhile, we’ll discover her balance togther. She’s pretty, but kindof skinny.

See, she always has yellow leaves. One week she’s too thirsty, the next she’s too moist. Let’s take a closer look at the leaves:

So we have one bright yellow leaf – that means she’s thirsty. But see the leaf just below the yellow one, the one that’s mostly green with some yellow? That indicates too much water. Let’s look at some more photos of leaves. See if you can tell if these show overwatering or underwatering based on the color:

All three of these leaves indicate I gave Samantha too much water. They all are yellow mixed with green – the green is the way you know. If it was pure yellow, turning crunchy brown, then it’s underwatering. Here’s an example:

My problem with Samantha is she often times has both types of leaves on her at the same time. That’s my fault. You see, I haven’t really bonded with Samantha. I take care of plants at offices and homes around Albuquerque, and one of my car dealerships canceled my services last year. I brought her home until I could find a new office for her. But then I never did, and she’s been cramped in my foyer ever since. I feel bad, but I am determined to fix this. First, I had to feel the soil to see if it was wet or dry. I just gave her some new soil last week, so the conflicting leaves could be her trying to adjust to new dirt (which I believe is a tree’s version of candy). I also had a moisture meter handy.

Hmmm, the soil in my hand was dry, but the meter was through the roof. And it’s not even down that far in her dirt!

I got this meter at Home Depot. They break easily, and aren’t the most reliable thing in the world. This one is brand new, so I’m inclined to believe that Sam’s soil is wet. Ficus trees don’t usually mind if the top inch or so is dry.

So I decided against watering her. What I did instead was I cleaned off all the leaves that were still hanging in her…all the yellows (they’re not going to come back) and all the ones that were in the process of turning yellow (they’re not coming back either). It’s important to clean the dead leaves so that you can easily identify when new problems arise. Plus, aesthetically, it’s much more pleasing.

BUT WASH YOUR HANDS IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARD!!! Any plant has the chance to irritate your skin. Many, like Samantha, have sap inside them that will give you a wicked burn, or swell your eyes shut. They will also stain your clothes. Be careful.

Eversince the other day, when I mentioned a neighbor’s ficus in my post, I’m tempted to write more about it. It might seem dull for me to reference such an uninteresting detail. After all, ficuses are pretty popular and balconies holding popular houseplants are also popular. So why the attention ?
Well, this is a special setting. Imagine how from my fifth floor I get to see many many balconies, all usually cluttered with unuseful stuff, old chairs, small closets, a lot of different plants potted in sour cream boxes (or the same ol’ brown plastic holders for that matter), a table stuffed somehow in a corner, holding pickles or jam jars or just plain boxes. Anyhow, in the midst of this view, there is one balcony with a very minimalistic aspect (probably not intended). It’s an open balcony, empty, walls painted in white, only holding the pot with this ficus I’m making a fuss about and a red bench. That’s it. So the color contrast, the lack of clutter and probably the fact that I have yet to see a person there, really drew my attention. This is no regular balcony, I tell you. Today I was thinking that maybe nobody lives there now, but somebody has to water the ficus, right ?
Thinking about that, my balcony currently holds the fridge (occupying almost half of it), the garbage bag sometimes, and recently a tarragon plant. Must do some redecorating there, but the space is so small that I don’t really get the urge to do that.

Si possono così “ascoltare” e “sentire” le voci di alocasia, betulla, ciclamino, dracena, edera, felce, ficus, gelso, ginko biloba, lavanda, magnolia, noce del caucaso, noce, oleandro, olmo, philofendro, vari tii di rosa, sambuco, sorbo, sphatipillum, stella di natale, tageto, tiglio, ulivo, achillea, assenzio, belladonna, calendula, cicuta,  echinacea purpurea, elicriso, erba stregona, iperico, issopo, malva, starmonio, verbena. Consiglio l’ascolto.  

Interessante l’analisi musicologica espressa nel sito: “Volendo tentare un’analisi musicale del modo di esprimersi in suoni delle piante, si è giunti alla conclusione che esse utilizzano scale arcaiche. Tali scale si rifanno alla modalità greca antica e sono formate da una successione di 4 suoni discendenti (tetracordi) compresi nell’intervallo di una “quarta giusta”. E’ dall’unione di più tetracordi  che nascono le armonie musicali composte dalle piante.

Secondo i teorici greci le melodie composte su ciascuna di queste armonie sono contraddistinte da un carattere particolare, con effetti propri dell’armonia stessa sulla volontà e sulla psiche umana. Per  capire ciò che le piante vogliono comunicare a chi le ascolta occorre quindi porsi in un particolare stato emotivo“.

Alttrettanto stimolante è l’analis tecnica: “L’apparecchio per la Musica delle Piante consiste in un sistema di rilevazione del movimento linfatico foglia – radice, misurata attraverso un particolare tipo di rilevatore dotato di due sensori posti alle radici e sulle foglie della pianta collegata. Tale apparecchio registra la resistenza elettrica dei tessuti della pianta dovuta alla variazione della densità cellulare della linfa stessa. Le variazioni di resistenza elettrica, vengono poi convertite in segnali digitali, cioè in  note musicali secondo lo standard MIDI ed inviati ad un sequencer (banca dati di timbri musicali). L’apparecchiatura di rilevazione dispone di filtri per limitare le interferenze elettromagnetiche ed estrarre in modo “pulito” le variazioni rilevate sulla pianta.

Come tutti gli organismi viventi, le piante subiscono variazioni di resistenza elettrica dovute a vari fattori: fisici e sottili, tra cui importantissimi stati fisiologici ed “emozionali”. Le piante sono delle grandi antenne, dei ricettori sensibilissimi, esse captano dall’ambiente moltissime variazioni energetiche fisiche (campi elettromagnetici statici e variabili, ecc) e “sottili”. Tra queste ultime, molto importanti nella relazione con questi organismi, sono le interazioni con i campi energetici delle persone stesse.

Il risultato finale consiste nel poter udire ciò che normalmente non siamo in grado di vedere né tanto meno di percepire: il movimento vitale di una pianta, le sue reazioni, il suo campo energetico“.

Non so dire quanto possa essere presente e profondo il legame tra la “voce delle piante” e la nostra psiche. Intuitivamente sono portato a pensare che c’è, è bello e gratificante. Di sicuro noi percepiamo molto più di quanto pensiamo di percepire e – soprattutto – noi siamo in rrelazione con l’alterità del mondo vivente molto più di quanto immaginiamo.

Ringrazio perciò le formidabili affermazioni di Laura Silingardi e di Tiziano Franceschi. I risultati della loro ricerca sono affascinanti e godibilissimi, comunque la si possa pensare. E già questo è bellissimo.

While working in a garden centre many moons ago one of the most frustrating things was caring for the houseplant section, which I grew to loathe. It may look easy but just keeping them alive up in the North East was fiendishly tricky.
On holiday it was a joy to sit in the charming garden of the hotel and admire how they really should look. Deliciously scented Jasmines, ever-flowering Bouganvillia, Ficus plants tall and bold, Cycas palms, Vriesias, Crotons, Birds of paradise with perfect flowers, spiky Mother in laws tongue.
And driving through the villages I stopped off at one of the terracotta emporiums dotted along the roadside. Piles of pots of all shapes and sizes to make your mouth water. And I wondered if I could ever get any home. But reality check. That was Morocco, where frost is non-existant. This is England, in Autumn, where the colour is lent to sap reducing foliage on our trees and the browns of the ploughed fields. Frost is on the way.
Our terracotta pots, here at The Garden Factory, are also hand made, but from clay that sits for 2 years (yes, that’s two whole years!) weathering before the potter even gets his mits on it. And then there’s the issue of despatch. I’m not sure a Moroccan pot would stand a chance (however lovingly packaged) within the channels of the UK distribution centres. Our ones have yet to break (touch wood), although the special packaging does raise the price. But they arrive at your door in one complete piece negating a worrying journey home from the garden centre.
It’s great to experience the world of terracotta by the roadside and exotic plants blooming in the garden. My dislike of houseplants has abated, but I’m happy to leave them in Morocco.

Indoor plants are very important because not only , are a nice decoration for our house ,but also because they clean the air adding oxygen.

We are going to give you some examples of indoor plants and flowering indoor plants but, you can also try with your favorite outdoors plants .

AFRICAN VIOLET

Likes  lot of sunshine light. Are easy to grow, long lasting . Water the plant  every three days. Don´t water the leaves . This plant like warm water.

ALOE VERA

Aloe prefers sun light but it tolerates light shade too.

AMARYLLIS

It´s an easy bulb to grow. One bulb into a large pot . The bulb will be plant with the upper third above ground.

BEGONIA

Tolerates shade well. Don´t like frost.

CACTUS

It´s an easy care plant that needs water.

COLEUS

It grows from seed or cuttings . Tolerate partial shade. It´s susceptible to frost.

IMPATIENS

Shade lovers. Water them regularly. Seed propagation.

PAPER WHITES

Easy to grow .

PHILODENDRON

Make a great houseplant. Are easy to grow. It´s low maintenance . Requires low light , propagation by rooting runners.

SPIDER PLANT

Low maintenance and are easy care. They like well drained soil. They do well in low light conditions.

ANGEL IVY

Needs indirect light.

FICUS

Needs indirect bright light.

This week the fig tree in our yard is chocker full of ripe figs. We can’t eat them fast enough and I am going to take a basket full of them to school today. I reckon there are probably 500 fruits on the tree.

The fig tree is quite small so the fruits can be picked easily. I have to get on a chair to get the top ones. I’ve seen many of these trees in Belgrade yards and gardens. The fig is native to Iran, Pakistan and the Mediterranean region. It was in the garden of Eden area (Iraq) and the leaf is the famous genital covering. I think Ollie should put one on because he is usually running around the yard naked!

The fruits when they ripen turn yellow and they split open. I wonder if fig wasps are using them? Nadia and I love them but the kids are not too keen on them. They are rich in calcium, vitamins, and antioxidants.

Azi dimineaţă mi-am udat plantele şi cactuşii şi am observat că un cactus avea păduchi -> “despăduchiat“…altul nu se simtea bine -> pus îngrăşământ…altul se ţinea de glume -> râs la câteva glume de ale lui până m-a făcut “nigger” -> scos cactus obraznic din ghiveci şi pus în cadă câteva ore, sub jet de apă, până îi vine mintea la cap .

Iar acum într-un ton mai serios, cactuşii mei au fost atacaţi de dăunătorul cunoscut sub numele de “păduchele lânos“. Şi nu numai cactuşii…am observat mici insecte pe pământul ficusului şi pe frunzele celor două plante hibiscus. La cactuşi sunt sigur că e vorba de păduchele lânos, dar la celelalte plante nu ştiu despre ce dăunători este vorba. Oricum, am tratat toate plantele cu insecticidul Mospilan…la plante a avut efect vizibil, la cactuşi însă, nu. Pe urmă am aflat că Mospilan-ul nu are mare efect asupra lânosului, aşa că am cumpărat un insecticid special pentru acest dăunător. Sper să scap de el .
