I bought a PS3 the middle of last year, I have to say I think it was a good investment for an entertainment standpoint.  I get the best of both the HD movies and game console worlds!  I have a console that can play Blu-ray Disks and is capable of doing a mighty fine job of upsampling standard DVD’s to HD quality!  I now have the choice of spending the extra money to get the blu-ray disk or I can go cheap and get the DVD depending on what I want.

On top of all of this, I have the game console!  How awesome, if I an not watching a movie, I can play one of a number of games.  Seeing as I am cheap and the economy is in the trash, I haven’t purchased a whole lot of games.  I think I only have 5…  Metal Gear Solid, GranTurismo Prolog, FIFA 08, NFS Carbon and something else…  My favorites are the last two!  I am a big fan of racing games which made me more interested in the Playstation 3 since they seem to be the best at racing games.  Also, I love Soccer so FIFA 08 was a natural fit!!  I know, you are asking “if you love soccer so much, why ont FIFA 09?”  Because, as I said before, I am cheap, I didn’t even buy a new copy of FIFA 08, I bought a used copy from game stop for $15!  I have a blast playing as a team manager and playing through the seasons, its very entertaining to be able to sign different players and draft new players then build their skills and play the games.

Whats even better is that I was able to pick up a PS3 movie remote from Circuit City for $15!  I am Cheap, what can I say.  It was a good buy, now my wife and I have an easier time running the console for movies because the actual buttons are there (not that it wasn’t doable before but this just makes life easier, no memory required!)

What gaming console/s do you have?  What do you like about it/them?

The game feels much more polished than FIFA 08 did. You don’t feel like you are just going through the motions anymore. Graphics are top notch and it seems like nearly every aspect of the game has been improved. The addidas live season is interesting but it doesnt seem to update the recent signings (I’m a West Ham United fan and I dont have Kovac or Savio on my team yet). If you are a soccer fan I think you’ll get a kick (pun..intended) out of this one.

I’ve been playing a lot of FIFA ‘08 on my 360 before bed.  Almost done with my first successful season in Management Mode with MLS and the Crew.

It amazes me how simple patterns are amazingly effective in getting goals on a consistent basis.  And how much I can singularly hate David Beckham for putting my entire defensive and midfield lines to shame.  

But what most amazes me of all is how I’ve created three characters and they have all disappeared into the void.  They don’t exist.  It doesn’t make any sense.  If I create a character, why is that character lost if I don’t save every single squad?  Why can’t I pull my characters back out of Management Mode to edit them?  

Seriously EA, did you think that through?  I’ve never seen a sports game that treated created characters in a way that didn’t associate them like a small saved file on a memory card.  NBA Jam was able to do it.  It’s not hard.  If I want to draft him into Manchester United, let me do that.  Load the default teams, scan the cards/profiles, and put the custom players to the teams they were assigned to.  Is that really so much worse than requiring every mode to have it’s own special roster and saved state, including the default ones?

This is a history of my FIFAing through the years…

Which is the best gaming series in the world ? Mario ? Metal Gear Solid ? Grand Theft Auto ? Naah, For me it has to be FIFA, hands down.

I’ve played Fifa 96 on a video game console. Then got Fifa 97 from a friend as soon as I bought my first PC, my first ever pirated game. I still remember the Gold colour CD and looking at it the first time, the younger me couldn’t understand how a plain gold disk can hold a game while my other game Captain Claw had the fancy graphics . Anyway who can forget the AMAZING graphics of FIFA 97 and it’s double player mode. One can play with both the keyboard and the mouse and it was awesome! Plus you even had indoor Football and that was totally kick ass with deflected passes and amazing shots.

Then came FIFA ‘98, the Word Cup Edition and I will remember it for one reason only – Winning the World Cup with India who were strangely given Orange Jerseys. Lol. I guess the game makers didn’t know we play in Blue. And the Indian team was A. Singh, B.Singh… Z.Singh. LMAO. Funny Fellows. Amazing Game though.

FIFA 99. That was the game that got me into football fulltime. And it didn’t even take the full version to get me hooked. The DEMO version let you play one half of 4 mins I think and it was Absolutely Awesome. You had to choose between Man Utd and Juve and I guess I would have played it at least 5000 times. It was that good. And that’s how I learned all the names of the players and this game is the sole reason why I started supporting Manchester United, Life Altering Game. Probably my favorite of the entire series.

FIFA 2000 was a let down. It didn’t work with my Celeron Processor . I still remember the error that I used to get everytime I tried to install it but the same setup worked without flaw at the Games shop where I bought it. I even called the Computer Technician to fix the issue and the kind man, I remember, took me to the shop, convinced him that the game didn’t work in my system and exchanged it for Cricket ‘98 ( Waste of Money and Time, It was Cricket ‘97 with added videos and updated rosters, Cheating Bastards ). But not before I managed to install it at my friend’s place and also at my next door neighbour’s amazingly fast Pentium II .

FIFA 2001 came with a computer update and the graphics were improved significantly, besides the gameplay was kinda totally different than usual and this version always feels a bit different to me when playing. Amazing Bicycle Kicks, Stunning Grass and In-Game Commentary. It was fantastic.

FIFA 2002 had it’s new key for player runs and weighted passes, great game. And 2003 followed with much improved graphics and the nice thru ball. Bu it also came along with the need to upgrade my Pentium III system. The game was slow, poor looking and framed a lot but still it was FIFA, so it was wonderful.

FIFA 2004 is the game that hooked me into the manager mode, season after season of amazing games. This is the game I’ve player the Most number of times. It just felt so complete at that time. A time of board exams and long holidays and it provided endless hours of fun, specially before the exams . Surprisingly, it performed better in my system than 2003 despite the graphics improvements. Way to go EA . Plus remember Z, Z, A? The new accurate way to cross to the remote striker and it was too accurate for my liking. But Ole Gunnar Solkjaer and Ruud were not complaining at that time collecting crosses from Giggs and burying them near the bottom corner .

FIFA 2005 was my first game with my new PS2 ( Got tired of upgrading my computer purely for games ) and the First Touch feature was genius and the chip thru ball and the chip shot on the PS2 is pure elegance. No more stuttering Graphics. Amazing first touch control. Even though I had moved from the keyboard to the Joystick I still saw A S D and W E. Even now I don’t say X but say S for pass, and not O but D for shooting. Guess the foundations never change.

FIFA 06 was the first time we all started played tournaments together and I was the champion simply due to my crossing ability. One on One with the keeper, well, no thanks I run down to the nearest flank and shove the ball in and bam, someone is there to head it into the net . Amazing Game. Endless hours of multiplayer awesomeness.

FIFA 07 – The long shots, Finesse, Freekicks and more endless hours of multiplayer fun, especially the extra time where a game that finished 1- 1 during the 90 mins would be 4 – 4 at the end of the 120. Amazing talent we guys have . Superb game. Also the game where we started using the Offensive And Defensive Tactics and I finally learnt what all the CA, BO etc actually did to your game.

FIFA 08 was really nice but it was hard to get hold of for me and it never really was my favorite. The crossing was pathetic and you could score goals only rarely with the crosses so I was like Drr and instead changed tactics to the chip thru ball which is amazing in this version. If you master the ground thru ball and one on one finishing, this game is yours but those are not my strengths, so this was not my year.

FIFA 09 is already here and it is the BEST of the series. What’s with the 9s ? 99 was amazing. 09 is absolutely awesome. Legendary. It is the most complete football game till date and I think FIFA finaly may have surpasses PES in every aspect. It has everything, the Gameplay, the Graphics , the Ball Physics, the Audio, every single aspect of modern football. Great work and I know FIFA 2010 will be much much better.

So here’s to FIFA – which of all the things led to my first 1000 words+ post, FIFA – for all the sleepless night stays, the thrilling tournaments, the bitter disappointments, the fist pumpings, the comebacks, the nil nil draws,the slow hamachi games and all the potru moments.

It is not just a game, it has changed the lives of millions of football fans all over the world and I guess maybe, just maybe I would purchase a legal version of FIFA if  I ever earn because the EA people deserve a little bit of money for years of fun .

Go FIFA. Go EA Canada.

les voy a hablar del nuevo videojuego que mejor representa un partido de futbol.

Este juego esta disponible para diferentes consolas y diapositivos de entretenimiento como para moviles, nintendo DS, PC, Playstation 2 y 3, PSP, Wii y Xbox 360.

En todos las graficas son diferentes por ejemplo, un primo tiene el FIFA 09 para PSP y las graficas estan muy bajas, pero para el xbox 360, playstation 3 las graficas tienen son excelentes. Para el wii es totalmente distinto, usan los monitos del wii (no se como se llamen).

El FIFA 09 contiene la mayor parte de los equipos de casi todos los paises, hay desde la liga sueca hasta la liga premier de inglaterra, con los mejores jugadores, los mejores equipos.

¿Que diferencias hay entre el FIFA 08 y FIFA 09?

En primera, las graficas estan mejores (en el ejemplo del xbox y playstation), estan actualizados los equipos, por ejemplo Ronaldinho ya lo ponen en el Milan. Hay mas trucos que hacen los jugadores profesionales y de cierto modo son mas faciles de hacer. Los controles son los mismo, eso no cambio.

Y lo mas nuevo del 09 es que ahora, cuando jueges con una conexion a internet, a la hora de estar jugando con un jugador, por ejemplo Ronaldhino, si a Ronaldinho en la vida real tuvo una excelente semana, en el videojuego se notara que esta animado y las jugadas saldran mejor, pero si en la vida real el jugador tuvo una mala semana, en el videojuego tambien se vera afectado. La verdad no se si eso ocurre con todos los jugadores, me imagino que solo con los famosos.

Bueno pues este videojuego ya esta a la venta, cuesta como $850 pesos, dependiendo de donde lo compren. Yo me voy a esperar hasta navidad jeje (falta de prosupuesto =/ ). Pero ya probe el DEMO del juego y se ve genial.

Bueno, ya es domingo y está terminando un fin de semana más, pero por problemas de tiempo no pude publicar esta entrada el viernes.

En fin, qué estuvieron jugando en estos días de reposo? Yo me entretuve mucho con el juego Tennis Manía que hay en Facebook, para variar un poco.

En GTA IV acabo de pasar la misión donde vas a buscar un paquete de cocaína al antiguo hospital, y la verdad es que me costó trabajo, pero ya la pasé.

Y bueno, estoy esperando ansiosamente la llega a nuestro continente de FIFA 09 para volver a jugar futbol, pues talvez recuerden que hace una semana les dije que mis Dualshock 2 se habían descompuesto y llevo dos semanas ya sin jugar FIFA 08 en mi PS2…

Bueno, y ustedes qué están jugando o qué jugaron?

Voetbal is commercie. We hebben het al eens eerder aangehaald. Stadions krijgen namen die bedacht zijn door één of twee stropdassen onder het genot van een nespresso. Voetblah is geen fan van deze ontwikkeling. Dat moge duidelijk zijn. Maar aan de andere kant heeft de commercie ons ook goede dingen gebracht. Zo hoeven we bijvoorbeeld geen wedstrijd meer te missen en kunnen we zelfs wedstrijden kopen op van de decoder, zonder daarbij een abonnement af te sluiten. Een soort voetbaltheek. Alleen rekenen ze daarbij de blessuretijd niet mee…

Een andere niet onbelangrijke ontwikkeling is de opkomst van voetbalgames. Het voetbal wordt in de wereld der games gedomineerd door twee grootmachten: Pro Evolution Soccer en FIFA 08. Oftewel Konami versus EA Sports. Welke de beste is? U mag het zeggen. Hieronder een korte introductie.

De bedenker van Pro Evolution Soccer is ene Shingo ‘Seabass’ Takatsuka. Wie kent hem niet. In eerste instantie heette het spel overigens Konami Hyper Soccer, daarna International Super Soccer om tot slot in 1996 over te stappen op Winning Eleven (US en Azië). In Europa kennen we Winning Eleven als Pro Evolution Soccer. Pro Evo staat vooral bekend om de realistische weergave. Minpuntje is het gebrek aan licenties waardoor zij niet alle spelersnamen kunnen gebruiken.

De FIFA-reeks werd gelanceerd in 1993. Het spel kan, de naam zegt het al, door een samenwerking met FIFA, gebruik maken van alle spelersnamen die onder de FIFA vallen (voor het eerst in 1996). Op de cover van 2008 prijken dan ook jongen als Wayne Rooney en ene Ronaldinho. Het spel wordt vaak bekritiseerd vanwege de weinige veranderingen die men jaarlijks doorvoert. Maar goed, je kan ook niet alles hebben.

Eigenlijk moet Voetblah bekennen weinig verstand te hebben van deze vorm van voetbal. Vast en zeker zijn er onder onze lezers vele grotere kenners die hier een wezenlijke bijdrage kunnen leveren. Dus fans, gamers, criticasters en haters; laat jullie horen!!! Welke is nou eigenlijk de beste?
