On Saturday, I congratulated New Zealand on reaching the World Cup finals for the second time in their history. To qualify, New Zealand played Bahrain, New Caledonia, Fiji and Vanuatu.

On Wednesday night, France and Portugal could find themselves out of the World Cup finals. Players such as Ronaldo, Henry, Deco, Carvalho and Benzema will miss out. They will join the likes of Ibrahimovic, Rosicky, Berbatov and Vermaelen in not going to South Africa.

What can North Korea and New Zealand bring to the World Cup? Both are unlikely to win a game. The World Cup is a showcase tournament, where the best footballing countries test their skills to see which nation is the best in the world at soccer. Yet, Portugal – who are much better than both North Korea and New Zealand – may not be there.

Other nations that have qualified, such as Australia, qualified by playing in the wrong continental zone. They played teams in Asia, instead of Oceania. Israel and Khazakhstan play their qualifying matches in the European zone, yet neither country is in Europe! While San Marino and Andorra are not countries.

World Cup qualifiication needs a major overhaul. When the USA played Barbados, they beat them 8-0. Why not have the smaller nations play against each other, then let them join the big guns in a second qualification stage? Qualifying groups should be mixed involving countries from all over the world, with proper seeding. With worldwide travel and players from different nationalities plying their trade in every continent, this seems the most logical step forward.

But then FIFA is not a logical organization. After all, they have Jack Warner as their Vice President.

Liga dos Campeões da CONCACAF

Com a definição da grande final da MLS Cup 2009, também ficaram definidas as equipes da MLS que irão disputar a Liga dos Campeões da CONCACAF (LCC) na temporada 2010-2011. Essas equipes são:

• Seattle Sounders FC: campeão da US Open Cup 2009
• Columbus Crew: campeão da MLS Supporters’ Shield 2009
• Los Angeles Galaxy: finalista da MLS Cup 2009
• Real Salt Lake: finalista da MLS Cup 2009

O Columbus Crew está disputando a temporada atual da LCC sendo a única equipe da MLS a ter passado para fase de quartas-de-finais da competição que serão disputadas entre março e abril de 2010. O campeão da LCC ganha o direito de disputar o Mundial de Clubes da FIFA. Que as equipes classificadas para a próxima temporada tenham muita boa sorte.

La selección nacional cayó 0-1 en el Ricardo Saprissa ante la selección charrúa. Los nacionales le pusieron muchas ganas, pero no fue suficiente para vencer a los uruguayos que se dedicaron a una de las cosas que mejor saben hacer: volar patadas, y lo mejor para ellos fue que contaban con el permiso del pésimo árbitro español Alberto Undiano. El tanto de los celestes llegó al minuto 21’ de juego cuando Diego Lugano remató un balón suelto tras un corner.

Durante la mayor parte del juego la selección costarricense dominó el partido, sin embargo no pudieron concretar las oportunidades que se crearon. Para colmo de males, Randall Azofeifa se fue expulsado por acumulación al 52’ y poco minutos después el referee no quiso señalar un claro penal a favor de Costa Rica después de que dos jugadores uruguayos tocaran el balón con la mano en el área de penalty.

Al final este resultado acerca un poco más a Uruguay a Sudáfrica, pero todavía faltan 90 minutos o tal vez más para saber quien clasificará.

Antonio de Nigris

El delantero mexicano Antonio de Nigris del club griego Larisa falleció durante la madrugada del pasado lunes debido a un fallo cardíaco a la edad de 31 años. El ataque a su corazón ocurrió en su casa y el jugador perdió la vida cuando lo transportaban al Hospital, según dijo su esposa. Al parecer se debió a un problema congénito en su corazón y que ya había sido detectado cuando el mexicano jugó en Turquía, sin embargo lastimosamente el delantero hizo caso omiso.

Egypt’s National Football/Soccer team won the match by two goals, which means that Egypt will have to play Algeria again this Wednesday in Sudan. They qualified for the game in Sudan at the very last minute possible. They scored the second goal during the fifth minute of stoppage time during the last half. Stoppage time is the additional minutes added to each half, they are accumulative of time spent not playing during the half. The second half had a total of six minutes of stoppage time, which is a lot for a game. This is probably the result of so many Algerian players faking injuries on the field, to pass the minutes. As Algeria did not need to win this game, all they had to do was not allow Egypt to score two more goals then them. If they had achieved that feat they would have qualified for the World Cup that right then and there. However they failed and now the teams are off to Sudan, in supposed neutral territory to continue war through sport.

Amidst Egypt’s victory party after their 2-0 victory against Algeria a darker side to the weekend’s events emerged.

FIFA had warned Egypt on Friday after the Algerian team bus had been pelted with stones and 3 Algerian players sustained injuries. FIFA representative Walter Gagg stated “We saw that three players had been injured — Khaled Lemmouchia on the head, Rafik Halliche above the eye and Rafik Saifi on the arm….These weren’t superficial injuries,”

The bus had broken windows and blood stains were found on the floor. The Algerian press used the incident to drum up the atmosphere of hate by plastering front page pictures of the injured players. Whilst some sections of the Egyptian press had come out with accusations that the whole incident was an Algerian fabrication.

Further scenes of aggravation took place in Marseille which is home to a large population of Algerians. After Egypt’s victory youths went on a rampage setting alight rubbish in the street as well as cars and sinking two boats.

In Cairo itself clashes saw 32 people, 20 of these being Algerian, injured and three were still in hospital the next day. The hostility that was evident on Friday with the Algerian bus incident had not simmered down.

M’sila in southern Algeria saw homes of Egypt workers attacked, whilst the Egyptian embassy in Algiers was cordoned off.

El 14 de octubre de este año Diego y Argentina se jugaban la posibilidad de quedar o no dentro del mundial 2010,deportivamente Argentina es un desastre,solo la garra y el corazón  fue quien pudo clasificarlos directamente al evento… pero no hablaremos de eso,hablaremos de lo que paso justo después del partido, al terminarlo… lo recordamos??

Una figura publica,un Dios para algunos, ídolo de ídolos, genio y figura,simplemente perdió sus cabales allí, podrán decirme que se descargo, que sentía impotencia y con esas palabras lo que hizo fue quitarse un peso de encima, pero seamos sinceros, es la forma de expresarse, delante de mujeres,periodistas de todo el mundo, jóvenes y demás??  sobre todo siendo una figura publica, representante deportivo de un pais??.. Para mi obviamente que no..

Lo que mas me indigna, contando la frase de Maradona es lo que pasa después de la misma, se esperaba la sanción, muchos decían que no podría incluso dirigir el mundial, había susto, miedo  y 1 mes después de esto que nos encontramos ?? Una sanción de 2 meses, donde no dirigirá un partido amistoso, y no podrá asistir al sorteo del mundial..Guaooo Fifa un aplauso para uds!! que sanción, que respeto!! dieron el ejemplo.. de la falta de educacion y respeto.

Como es posible que una persona después de faltar el respeto a medio mundo..reciba simplemente una sanción de dos meses, esto indica varios puntos 1.Puedo decir lo que quiera..siendo una figura publica, 2. La política incluso dentro del deporte es cochina 3. Las influencias  pesan muchísimo, recordemos que el vicepresidente de la FIFA es el presidente de la Federación Argentina de Fútbol 4.Cada vez estamos peor en este mundo..

Dos meses sin relacionarse con el fútbol. Esa es la sanción que que la FIFA le ha puesto a El Pelusa por sus más que altisonantes declaraciones tras la victoria contra Uruguay en la última fecha del calendario sudamericano. Y por si fuera poco, el máximo organismo del fútbol mundial también le ha impuesto una multa de 25.ooo francos siuzos (aproximádamente 20.000 dólares) por los insultos que dirigió a los periodistas tras el derbi rioplatense.

Por fin, desde que dejó el fútbol en activo, el mítico de 10 de la albiceleste ha sido reprendido publicamente por una escabrosa situación, en la que decidió meterse el sólo. La FIFA ya no le ha permitido más a Maradona. Su cupo, completo. Y además no hay queja posible del infractor, pues se aprecia mucha benevolencia en la decisión del comité sancionador, ya que ha decidido no sancionarle con partidos (cómo es lo lógico y habitual en estos casos), sino con meses de sanción, que goza del mismo altavoz público pero pierde toda su eficacia como sanción. Barrilete Cósmico, mientras tanto, estará plácidamente en su casa.

De hecho, el único efecto real de la sanción es la pérdida del encuentro que el próximo día 22 de diciembre la albiceleste disputará contra Cataluña en el estreno de Johann Cruyff en el banquillo.

Falso arrepentimiento o verdadera pantomima

Ante esta situación, El Pelusa no ha tenido más que rectificar ante el máximo comité mundial. A pesar de la fuerza de sus declaraciones y la  valentía malentendida de la que hizo gala, Diego no ha tenido más obligación (tras las presiones de Bilardo y Grondona) de disculparse ante el comité, aunque públicamente no lo haya hecho.

Por si fuera poco, la albiceleste perdió y se perdió estrepitosamente contra la campeona de Europa, en un partido en el que cayo derrotada con la misma fórmula con la que se permitió eliminarse Uruguay.

Fútbol feo y aspero, completamente alejado de los cánones actuales, llevando a cabo técnicas y tácticas más propias de un Estudiantes de La Plata de los 60 que de una selección con nombres como Messi, Agüero, Higuaín, Di María… Con un desconocimento absoluto de las necesidades de su equipo y con un exceso de bilardísmo en la receta, es el único míster hasta el momento que ha hecho que estrellas mundiales, reconocidas por aficiones allende fronteras, pasen sin pena ni gloria por la albiceleste. Tanto es así, que el supuesto heroísmo de la fase clasificatoria se ha repartido de la forma más heterogenea posible, con paladines tan dispares como Higuaín (vídeo 45´´) (repescado por aclamación popular en el momento), Palermo (vídeo 1:15) (prejubilado), Bolatti…

España, controló el partido como viene haciendo en las últimos partidos, aplastando en la zona ancha a una paupérrima medular argentina, que sólo pudo aguantar el tipo gracias a la permisividad del señor Alan Kelly, irlandés con más tradición rugbística. Mientras, la zaga y el arco siguen siendo una disposición aletoria y constantemente experimental que se mantiene viva gracias a la intensidad extra y al plus de colocación que ponen insignes bregadores como Heinze o Demichelis.

Argentina se ha mostrado y se muestra, con un entrenador con título cubano, lejos de poderse alzar con el máximo entorchado mundial y con más dudas que nunca. A día de hoy, salvo Mascherano, ningún jugador de la abiceleste parece tener un sitio ya no sólo en el once de partida, sino en todo el plantel. Mientras, el resto de selecciones del continente ya tiene un equipo construido y armado de cara al mundial de Suráfrica. Falta muy poco para la gran cita y mucho por trabajar. Y con sanción de por medio.

All of us want Ireland to make it to the World Cup Finals in South Africa but I am beginning to wonder if we’re living in a fool’s paradise in connection with the 2nd leg of the playoff against France in Paris.

Ireland did very well with a policy of containment in the first half but as RTE Panellist Graham Souness said to me in studio “It’s impossible to maintain this for 90 minutes”. He was absolutely right and once France turned up the pressure Ireland weren’t at the races in the second half.

Okay, France got a deflected goal and if we had any luck we should have equalised. But we must surely recognise that we conceded too much space, gave away the ball too often and, if we are realistic and not looking through a haze of green, we could see that France were coasting for most of the second half.

I suppose a one goal deficit isn’t insurmountable – in theory anyway. But can our midfield give the service to Doyle and Keane that is likely to produce scores. Furthermore, if we play a more adventurous attacking game with the players that Trappattoni favours we’re likely to be taken apart. With a few exceptions we can’t match the talent of the French side and effort and commitment gets you only so far. So set pieces are our big hope. We have a decent away record in the World Cup qualifiers but France are the best side we’ve met in this campaign and I doubt they’ll bottle it in Paris.

France want to go to South Africa, FIFA want them to go to South Africa and the weight of history is against us. Ireland have not won in Paris since 1937 and no European team that has lost the first home leg of a playoff has made it through to the World Cup finals. Sadly, I don’t think we’ll make it this time but I very much hope I am wrong.

Mesmo com toda uma nação apoiando e 60.000 espectadores de verde e branco no estádio, foram os Suíços, estreiantes na competição, que chegaram ao título. Invictos e mantendo tabus, acabaram com a festa nigeriana, que jogava em casa. Nigéria que também não perdia na competição desde 19 de Agosto de 2003. O gol marcado por Haris Seferovic, aos 63’, trouxe também um sepulcral silêncio daquelas 60 mil vozes que há pouco mais de 1h havia cantado em uníssono o hino nigeriano.
Em sua 1ª participação, a Suíça escreve seu nome na história do futebol.

Eine kleine Veränderung scheint das Studium schon in mir bewirkt zu haben, denn Ich spiele im Moment absolut keine MMORPG’s mehr. WoW habe Ich nun schon zum dritten Mal für immer abgeschworen (diesmal will Ich es durchziehen) und Atlantica Online habe Ich gerade eben deinstalliert. Irgendwie hatte das Spiel seinen Reiz verloren. Das einzig interessante MMORPG wäre Dungeon Fighter Online, aber da die ja nur Amerika und Asien bedienen, fällt das flach (kein Bock mit ner Ami-IP da rumzulaggen und besonders kein Bock auf Ami’s).
Was zocke Ich sonst? Viel PS3, also FIFA 10, weil Ich noch keine anderen Spiele habe, Borderlands (kann Ich echt empfehlen, Fallout 3 mit CoOp-Multiplayer) und Ich spiele jede Menge Minispiele auf Playray (*Sabse grüß*).
In FIFA 10 suche Ich dringend eine Freundesliga oder halt irgendwelche Leute, mit denen man gechillt die Kugel hin- und herschieben kann. Meine PSNID lautet: Errrki

LAGOS, Nov 15, 2009 (AFP) – Debutants Switzerland were crowned Under-17 world champions here on Sunday when they defeated hosts and defending champions Nigeria 1-0 inside a packed Abuja National Stadium.

Haris Seferovic gave Switzerland the title courtesy of a 63rd minute header.

The Swiss were impressive leading to this championship game, and did well to contain the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria, before they dealt the killer blow through Seferovic to the disappointment of the 60,000-strong crowd.

Nigeria were overwhelming favourites to win their fourth Under-17 World Cup, particularly on the back of the full international team’s dramatic qualification for next year’s World Cup in South Africa 24 hours earlier.

Spain took third place when they defeated Colombia 1-0.

Isco scored the winner in the 75th minute after Spain struggled to translate their dominance into goals.

Cada seis segundos muere de hambre un niño en el mundo. A mí me da igual y a vosotros también. Sois así, asumidlo, no pasa nada. O sí que pasa, pero os da lo mismo y a mí también. A los líderes les importa un huevo el cambio climático, los chinos y Obama (que es americano, pero menos) lo han demostrado este fin de semana. La corrección política es casi todo lo que nos dicen los profes en el cole. ¿Dónde están las letras “ores” y “gio” de la frase anterior? En el espacio intermedio. El cinismo absoluto es nuestra forma de vida, y entre medias tenemos un espacio de cierta bondad que padece alopecia.

La ignominosa FIFA le mete un paquete a Maradona por decirle a la prensa “que la chupen. Que la sigan chupando” y, mientras tanto, Fabio Capello se pasea ufano por algunos despachos, tras llevarse un pastizábal por desdibujar el estilo -trasnochado y todo lo que queráis- del futbol británico. Ese sinvergüenza no da explicaciones a nadie. Lo de la corrección política que os digo. Y mira que creo que el mundo sería un sitio mejor si le hubiera dado un infarto a Maradona en su último partido como jugador. Siempre tuvo poco estilo. Sin ir más lejos, jugó en el Sevilla. Debe ser así: falto de estilo, despilfarrador. Si Maradona, en lugar de un manirroto, fuera un tío hacendado, me parecería márketing.

Sólo quiero montar una librería y que todo me dé igual. Se llamará “El puntapié de Goickoetxea“. Sería en dos plantas, con suelo de madera, y ladrillo vista pintado en blanco. Tendría grandes estanterías, con una máquina de café express y materia prima italiana de calidad. Organizaría talleres de escritura y otras formas de perder tiempo, en todo tipo de soportes, cosas para niños para los fines de semana, y la señora de la pastelería de al lado me acercaría un bizcocho cada día, a cambio de que le contara una historia. Vendería un puñado de vinilos, novedades de importación. Siempre sonará música chachi, y los viernes por la tarde, habrá un concierto. Ni tan cañeros como Tokio Sex Destruction, ni tan coñazo como Cocorosie.

No quiero FIFA, ni Maradona, ni niños muertos de hambre, ni comerme la promo del último de Sabina.

A mercifully short list of meaningful matches this weekend. I’m not going to bother with the friendlies, as most of them ended as you would expect and, after all, they’re just friendlies. I will however, give a mention to the Canadian national team, who lost 3-0 to Macedonia after missing a pair of penalties and having one converted against them. Just a friendly, but bravo…

Anyhow, here are the matches that have actual consequences; the World Cup qualifier playoffs:

Not Pictured: Portugal's #1 Keeper.

Portugal 1-0 Bosnia-Herzegovina – Three times. Three times a Bosnian player took his best strike at the Portugese net, and three times the home side was saved in Lisbon by the magical touch of – wait for it – the woodwork. Forget Eduardo; the guy had nothing to do all night except look relieved as both posts and the crossbar did all his work for him. My prediction: in the second leg of the playoff, Eduardo finds himself replaced by a Portugese Oak. Anyhow, thanks to the heroism of the wood, Portugal were able to shade Bosnia on the strength of a Bruno Alves goal; even without their precious Cristiano Ronaldo leading them. This result also means that their visitors were denied the opportunity to net an all-too-valuable away goal; I suppose that’s Portugese hospitality for you! That being said, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to hide before I am pelted with Bacalhau.

France 1-0 Republic of Ireland – Unlike their Bosnian… er, cousins? the French were able to grab a crucial away goal and an even more valuable victory at Croke Park in Dublin. The luck of the Irish was all but absent, as Giovanni Trapattoni’s men missed a handful of sitters and Nicolas Anelka’s eventual winner deflected off of Sean St. Ledger before hitting the post and finding the back of the net. In fact, one might make the case that it was the luck of the French which prevailed in the Emerald Isle; though to be fair, France were the better side for much of the evening and Ireland at times simply did not look like they could hack it against such stiff opposition. Raymond Domenech’s men now have a somewhat comfortable lead to sit upon when they return for the playoff’s second leg in gay Paris.

That about sums it up, yea.

Greece 0-0 Ukraine – Greece manager Otto Rehhagel stated before this weekend’s match that a nil-nil draw in Athens would be the best result for Greece to achieve. Unsurprisingly, they managed it. The most boring side in International football were able to hold their Zhovto-Blakytni visitors to a no-score draw, hoping to scoop up victory in Kiev in the second leg of the playoff. In essence, they said “getting into the World Cup is a problem for future-Greece,” and then proceeded to park the bus for 90 minutes. Mind you, Bayer Leverkusen man Theofanis Gekas was able to put the ball into the back of the Ukrainian net, only for it to be disallowed on account of offside. At the opposite end of the pitch, it was Andriy Shevchenko who came closest for the visitors, but ultimately he would not be able to trouble the Greeks with an away goal in the clutch. Personally, I wonder about the wisdom in Greece’s tactics, as I feel one should play for victory on one’s own soil, as it is much easier to achieve a result without roughly 60,000 Ukrainians cheering against you. But hey, we’re talking about the team who managed to bore their way to European glory in 2004, so who knows? Maybe they’ll catch the Ukrainians napping. For my part, I certainly hope not.

Russia 2-1 Slovenia – Bilyaletdinov. Diniyar Bilyaletdinov. Remember that name. Or, if you’re like me, figure out how to pronounce it, and then remember it. Anyways, he was the main man for Guus Hiddink’s Russia in their playoff fixture against Slovenia, bagging the brace that would lift the Russkies above their Slovenian visitors with a goal on 40′ and another on 51′. However, it would not be smooth sailing all the way at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, as Slovenian substitute Nejc Pecnik put some pressure on the home side in the 88th minute by finding the back of the net with a headed rebound. Watching the game, one could see that it wasn’t just the Russian weather that was imposing; the atmosphere in the Luzhniki was absolutely imperious and the presence of icy Russian President Vladimir Putin only added to that.
