Op een vierbaansweg rijdt men doodgewoon met 6 auto’s naast elkaar. Niemand die er raar van op kijkt.

24/7-spits
De Chinese regering ziet het aantal auto’s ook stijgen, maar in plaats van daar een ecologisch verantwoorde oplossing voor te bedenken, wordt het aantal ringwegen drastisch uitgebreid. Ooit begon Beijing met één ringweg. Een groot vierkant van asfalt, aangelegd rondom het centrum van Beijing; de Verboden Stad. Inmiddels is de zesde ringweg een feit, de plannen voor een zevende en zelfs achtste liggen al klaar. Voorlopig zien de inwoners van Beijing de fileproblematiek nog niet verminderen. Hier kennen ze geen ochtend- en avondspits, maar 24/7-spits.

INGREDIENTES

400g de filé mignon cortado em tiras e temperado com pimenta do reino e pouco sal
1 cenoura grande cortada em rodelinhas finas
1 pimentão em quadrados
1 colher de sopa de cebola ralada
3 colheres de sopa de óleo de gergelim
1 colher de sopa de manteiga
6 colheres de sopa de shoyo light
1 colher de sopa de açúcar
1 colher de chá de maisena
2 colheres de sopa de vinho branco
1 colher de café de tabasco
Gergelim torrado a gosto (usei umas 2 colheres de sopa)

Leve a uma panela wok ou frigideira grande, metade da manteiga e do óleo, refogue a cenoura e o pimentão, até ficar “al dente”. Reserve.

Coloque o restante da manteiga e do óleo, doure a cebola, frite o filé, acrescente os legumes, o shoyo, o açúcar, a maisena dissolvida no vinho e o tabasco e mexa até fazer um molho levemente cremoso. Jogue o gergelim por cima. Sirva fumegante…

TOWN TO KEEP ME MOVIN’

‘Neen, we gaan niet wéér in een restaurantje aan de rand van ‘t stad zitten, laat jij nog maar eens je kop zien in ‘t centrum!’ berispte een vriendin me eerder deze week toen ik opperde dat ik geen zin had om in de avondspits naar Brussel centrum te rijden om af te spreken. Ik zag er tegenop. ‘t Moet bijna alweer van augustus geleden zijn. En dat terwijl ik vroeger quasi élke avond bleef hangen op de terrassen en in de café’s van de Vlaamse Steenweg, Graanmarkt en Dansaertstraat. Maar toen wàs ik er, ik werkte er namelijk.

Maar goed, ze had gelijk. Nog eens wat incrowd zien, ‘t kon geen kwaad, het had me al eerdere nuttige tips opgeleverd, want hoe je het draait of keert, de sector waarin ik werk plaatst zelden of nooit advertenties, maar put enkel uit: ‘Ken jij nog iemand?’ ‘Ahja, bel die of die eens…”. Gruwelijk Netwerken.

Op de E40 zag ik het nog allemaal geweldig zitten, ik had er zin in.  T. had gelijk, het was te lang geleden. Tot ik aan de LeopoldII tunnel kwam. Vol. Zo vol als op de ochtendspits waar ik jaren ingestaan had. Vrijdagavond, richting centrum. Iedereen vertrok dan toch UIT Brussel?! Uit ervaring wist ik dus ook hoe lang je erover deed tot uitgang Sainctelette. Mijn humeur zakte met de minuut. Gelukkig was ik op tijd vertrokken. Twintig minuten later, eindelijk tunnel uit, ‘t zou nu wel snel gaan. Dat was buiten de wegenwerken gerekend waar ik niet van op de hoogte was. Naast het kanaal straat afgesloten. Iets verder, Ieperstraat, gesloten eveneens wegens werken. Er zat niets anders op dan hoofdweg langs het kanaal te volgen aan de kant van het Klein Kasteeltje. Ik zal het geweten hebben. Twintig (20!) minuten tot aan de Dansaertstraat. Geduldig eenvaksrijtje schuiven terwijl je tientallen wagens rechts van je ziet over de trambaan/sporen scheuren. Scheuren, ja echt. Foeteren, vloeken, ergeren, weten dat je veel te laat bent, een platte gsm waardoor ik niemand kan verwittigen en terwijl toch rustig en geduldig aanschuiven. En dan komt pas het ergste: parking. Alle kleine straten staan aan beide kanten vol, ook al mag je slechts aan één kant parkeren. Zelfs op elke hoek staat een wagen. Al toertjes draaien vraagt een mens zich af hoe de hulpdiensten hier ooit ever zouden doorgeraken wanneer er ergens een brand uitbreekt. Eindelijk het geluk dat er iemand wegrijdt.

Drie kwartier te laat ben ik en van buitenaf zie ik reeds een andere donderwolk aan de toog zitten. Nog alleen. “Er is nog niemand?” “Neen, en je hebt geluk, nog vijf minuten en ik was weg.” gromt ze. “Wie verwacht er nu om anderhalf uur te rijden over een kleine vijfentwintig kilometer?” Vijf minuten later stormt de derde donderwolk binnen. “Shit, fuck, kak, ik haaaaaat Brussel!! Drie kwartier over zeven kilometer!”

Het werd nog een leuke avond. In het centrum van Brussel. Ik kom mijn huis uit om in een  (in bepaalde kringen bestempeld als zeer) hippe tent te zitten waar de muziektapes uit de jaren tachtig opgenomen in mijn ouderlijke discoteek gespeeld werden, de hele avond lang. Ik heb er nog tientallen in mijn kast liggen. Ik ben bijzonder uptodate, muziekgewijs. Niets veranderd. Behalve het verkeer.

Epiloog: vandaag moest ik alweer in Brussel zijn,  omgeving Naamse Poort deze keer en ik kwam vanuit Leuven. Het zou nu wel snel gaan, ‘t was zaterdag en het was middag. Maar toch voor alle zekerheid ruim op tijd vertrokken. Kortenbergse straat naar Shuman tot voor in de Wetstraat eivol. Voetje voor voetje aanschuiven. Een uur en vijf minuten op een traject wat je met gemak op dertig minuten kan doen. Op het nippertje net niet te laat op de afspraak. Brussel. Hel, kak, fuck, shit. Ik haat Brussel en zijn verkeer. En neen, het openbaar vervoer was geen optie.

(Later op de avond bij het tvkijken komt de confrontatie: Ik lijk wel een gepensioneerd typetje uit Manbijthond. “Banieje, in d’t stad, oei doar kommekik niet zenne, veel te gevoarlijk, ziedes op ‘t land hoe schuën…)
