This is just an update with the improved, OFFICIAL No Turn cover.

It just needed some slight improvements. We were set back a bit trying to decide what felt the best, but I think this cover really matches the spirit of the tape and InfeRed’s music in general.

Often it happens that the AVI video file you downloading from internet or torrent website doesn’t get downloaded completely, even in case when you are copying video file from broken CD/DVD doesn’t get copied properly. Windows Media Player or any other video player cannot play such broken AVI video files.

This app is something I’ve been looking for for a really long time, “Dropbox“. This app is definitely the easiest way to sync files online through computers and through your iPhone or iPod Touch. It’s simple, elegant, and extremely useful.

If you’re on a Wi-Fi or 3G network you can simply access or share files on the go with this app. You can share photos and videos by dropping them into a certain folder you’ve created via Dropbox. So for instance, me and a friend created a folder and when ever I drop something into that folder, he’ll receive it. You can share up to 2 gigabytes and upgrade your account if you want more space.

I really like how the developers integrated this into an iPhone app. Dropbox is broken down into three simple sections; “favorites, my dropbox, and settings”. Favorites is really just what files you’ve favored, so it’s pretty self-explanatory. “My Dropbox” is a list of the files you’ve created. All you need to do is click on a file and you have instant access to it. Lastly, there’s the settings section. What this section involves is details about your Dropbox account , and other basic information.

Overall, Dropbox is an amazingly simple to use file sharing app. It’s very stable, innovative, useful, and not to mention its FREE.

I have been quiet lately, mostly due to doing two gigs, taking care of my new digs, and fighting the great leaf insurgency of 09. I have though, after winning said leaf insurgency, finally sat down for a bit with intartubes. What follows comes from a foray into the underbelly of the internet that seems to be proliferating very well.

Following up on a previous project that kinda went nowhere, I decided to hoover some sites, then cull image files for testing with various steganalysis products. The net result of my searches and testing are here. I have washed hundreds of photos through the Stegdetect (Outguess) process and the files in that container all have a “high probability” of being stegged.

Now some of you out there may be saying to yourselves;

“Come on man, steg is so hard to detect and really, this is a myth. You’re just dreaming that you will find, never mind decrypt anything”

Well, I say why the hell not? I am focusing efforts on little known jihadist sites where those said same Jihadi’s and wanna be’s can easily download JPHIDE and other open source technologies and within minutes be hiding data within LSB’s.. So why not? I think that this is a easy and great way to be having covert channel conversations online. Of course that is the whole point is it not?

PSSST, lemme tell you a secret.. Google stego in the .mil and .gov space.. You will see that I am not the only one to think so. There are MANY RFP’s out there for building a better steganalysis product.

So, the captures continue, but those files above are open to attack. Please, have at them. Use anything and everything to determine if they have indeed been stegged and if you can crack them. If you do, you will get insane props and those files will be passed right on to the authorities. If nothing comes of it, at the very least you have had some fun playing with the tools and noodling about with the technology right?

So I hereby throw the gauntlet down.. Have at it! I will be working in parallel.

   The IT testing went okay. It took a lot longer than anticipated. I ended up doing two sessions, 9:30 until 12:00 then 13:30 until 15:00. Once again, the problems were at this end. Things that should have been done that hadn’t been done. Files in the wrong place. Wrong data paths. Mind you, the upgrade was run differently this time. There was a lot more for me to do. Last upgrade, the client was installed on the server, and the software house dialled in and did all the work. This time it was done from a local PC. Lessons have been learned, I hope. What I think is needed, is a concerted effort on both sides to communicate more. Next time I will insist on a project plan, with a detailed list of tasks and responsibilities. Next time, I will take more of a lead.

   I’m more than a little pissed off with the DVLA. I want to pay my car tax online, but because my insurance runs out at a similar time, the DVLA will not let me. They say that some national insurance database, has not been updated with my new insurance detail. So that means a trip to the post office in the next village. I though technology was supposed to help and make things easier.

   Tesco ‘green’ points are a funny thing. You get loyalty points for every bag you reuse. So basically, you take your own bags. A couple of weeks ago, I was shopping for a number of things, and unfortunately, forgot to take my bags into the store. Because the car was parked near to the store exit, I declined the offer of disposable bags, and put all the shopping back into the trolley. When I checked my receipt, I noticed that there were no ‘green’ point, so I toddled off to ‘Customer Service’ to query this. The very nice lady at the counter told me that I could only have the points if I re-used bags, and that the cashier would need to count how many bags I re-used. Totally bizarre. You should have seen the look on the Customer Service lady’s face, when I asked for 6 plastic bags to put my shopping in !!!!

Two folders that can be ccleaned automatically is the recycle bin and the Temporary Internet file folders. Both these are located on some directories or folders in your computer. These emergency to cleaned periodically. Now there is no way of telling your computer to clean only the recycle bin automatically. we must write a program and upload it on to the Windows Scheduler.

You program can be composed in Dos Script or in Visual Basic. All needs is to have is a line that deletes the Temporary Internet Files folder and the rrecycle bin. The next business is to tell the computer achieve this proggram everyday. If .bat file is used your program can be worn in as is where is condition. On the contrary if VB scripting is tempered to then the program needs to be converted to exe interfile composition.

Now we must upload the prrogram to the Scheduler. Windows has a scheduler which will fulfil programs automatically a given day / on the dot of the week/once or repeatedly.

We to delete the existinng files that are just now automaticcally. We cannot write an auto remove program based on size or age as we do not know if we command the files. So what we need to periodically copy antique and sized files on to another disk partition or on to a disk mounted on a drive. Now ages again we can use Visual Basic. One can use the File System Object and retrieve properties of old files and large sized files and can just principles a simple line which purpose copy full of years files and hefty files to another exclusive disk partition.

The thirrd issue is letting you know that there are some files waiting to be reviewed not later than you in front being deletedd. You can setup an e-mail wide awake benefit using Visual Basic and receive e-mail alerts some new files are copied on to the other disk partition. This has to be placed in the scheduler as well.

Now your self-acting program is almost ready. Now one has to physically efface the files. Just create spread sheet your exclusive backup partition drive and specially mark files that you do not want off. After this write another inadequate program inVisual Basic which will look through the contents of this spread sheet, obliterate all the files that you want to deleted and also delete recycle bin.

Reformatting your Windows XP computer will erase everything on your hard drive and reinstall the operating system. To avoid losing your data (documents, pictures, music, etc.), you will want to backup your information prior to reformatting. See the ITS Help Desk Personal Data Backup Support Center for more information. After you have reformatted your computer, you will need to reinstall all of your personal data, as well as any software products you may use (for example, Microsoft Office, iTunes, Symantec AntiVirus, etc.).

Reformatting your Windows XP computer has three main parts:

• Reformatting the computer from your operating system CD.
• Reinstalling the drivers that came with your computer.
• Running Windows Update to reinstall all security updates and patches.

Please contact the ITS Help Desk (384-4357) prior to reformatting your computer if you have questions about any of these processes involved.

NOTE: If you have a network connection, please unplug from the network before starting installation.

First, make sure that your computer is set to Boot to CD.  This is a different procedure depending on your computer.  When your computer first boots look for an option to enter the BIOS settings.  Under the BIOS settings find the “Boot Order” and make sure the CD-ROM is set to boot first.  If you have any problems with this please contact the ITS Help Desk at 319-384-HELP.

2. With the Windows XP CD in the CD-ROM drive, save your BIOS settings and exit.

3. If you’ve done everything correctly you should be asked to “Press Any Key to Boot from CD”.

4. After installing the necessary setup files, Windows XP will display your partitions.  Delete any existing partitions by selecting the desired partition with the arrow keys, press D to delete and then L to confirm the deletion.

5. You should now have only one option, “Unpartitioned Space”.  Press Enter to install Windows XP to the unpartitioned space.

6. When asked how you would like to format the partition, select “Format using the NTFS file system”.

7. After the partition is formatted, Windows XP will begin installation.  The computer will reboot.  While the computer is rebooting, please do not touch any keys.  From now on the screens will look like the following:

Enter your product key.  If you purchased Windows XP from the IMU Bookstore, the product key will be located on the back of the sleeve your CD came in.  If you are reformatting using a Windows XP CD that came with your computer, the product key may be located on a sticker somewhere on your computer case.

9. When asked for Network Settings, choose “Typical Settings”.

Windows XP will now complete installation.  Upon completion you will need to re-install the drivers for your hardware (Modem, Sound, Video, etc).  Many PC companies such as Dell, Gateway, and HP will include a “Driver Installation CD” with the computer.  Simply insert the CD and follow the instructions.  Otherwise, you can download current drivers from many manufacturer’s support web sites. It appears that the file-hosting site BoxSTR.Com simply changed over to being BoxSTR.Net. It's great news that BoxSTR is still around because no free file-hosting site is on par with it (at this point in time).

I figured that BoxSTR had deleted their site, so I switched to using FileDen again…. damn. Now all of the stuff I hosted on FileDen will likely eventually get pruned —- meh, oh well.

If you receive a .rar file and don’t know what to do with it then simply install unrar

Bueno, el primer paso ya está dado, es decir, la instalación. Para instalar moodle basta con seguir uno de los numerosos manuales que hay en Internet.

En mi caso, parte del camino ya lo tenía echo,  debido a que en otras asignaturas del Máster de Software Libre nos habían solicitado como parte de alguna de sus prácticas, concretamente la instalación de un servidor Apache y de un Gestor de Bases de Datos como PostGreSQL.

Una vez instalado comienza la tarea de modificar el módulo “files” y añadir las tablas necesarias en la Base de Datos a través de la herramienta XMLDB Editor que el propio Moodle utliza para interactuar con el Gestor de Base de Datos elegido.
