As is a tradition for me and my extreme single status self, Valentine’s Day is one best spent avoiding everything romance related. This year I decided to spend the time with a couple old friends, “Elliot” and his most unexpected of guests, “E.T.” As such, I had one of the best Valentine’s Days in years.

I love “E.T.” As movies go, this is one that sits very high on my favourite favourite movies list. As mentioned before, I’ve many best of lists for many categories, for many different things. But movie wise, E.T sits most definitely on the very best of the very best of list.

As a film it is an exceptional piece of film making. A perfect cast that is utterly believable as a family unit, lead brilliantly by a very young Henry Thomas as “Elliot,” and the main character of “E.T” one that you instantly fall in love with. It’s a great story that is beautifully told, packed with iconic scenes that still amaze me. The use of Reese’s Pieces leading E.T to Elliot’s home, the E.T. Drunk at home / Elliot “drunk” at school scenes, the flying BMX bikes, and of course E.Ts lit fingertip and the famous gruff voiced “Ouch…!” And of course the famous line…”E.T phone home!” It has incredibly tender moments. Funny moments. Great action scenes. And some extremely sad moments.

It’s a bit of an emotional roller coaster ride, but a good ride it is! Yes, even now, some 30odd years later, I cry at the same scenes, and get that warm fuzzy feeling at the end all over again. Just like the first time I watched it, aged 8, and the too-many-to-count times I’ve watched it in-between that first viewing and last nights.

And I think part of the appeal for me, is that association I have with my first viewing – one of my first ever cinema outings, with best mate (who at the time bore a remarkable resemblance to Elliot,) and Mom 2 (best mates Mom!) where I was utterly mesmerised by the story on screen, and yes, I sobbed big time then too. I just didn’t want E.T. to go and couldn’t understand why he couldn’t stay!

And it’s that innocents that I associate with every time I watch E.T. If that makes sense? A time when my world was perfect. I longed for nothing, I worried about nothing. The faults, problems, stress, trials and tribulations, and pretty much all the general complete shite of the real world that weighs you down more and more every year were yet to affect my life. I had my family, my home, my best friends, my cats. That was it. Nothing else was important. Or an issue. Life was fun. Life was full of dreams and make believe and adventure. Time when I completely and utterly believed it possible for E.T. to be real…

Every time I watch E.T, I think of that first time, and for the 120min running time, I can almost convince myself I’m back there, and everything’s good. Any film that can give you that feeling has to be high in the best of the best list, don’t you think?

As many know, one should in general not have too great expectations on any of the summer months in Sweden – the country slows down to close to a standstill as half of the population goes on holiday abroad and the other half acquires a more laid-back approach to their daily tasks.

This notwithstanding , it has actually been quite a good time for Connecting Bollywood – several projects are moving forward, slowly but surely, and we have also made some new acquaintances! Arguably the most important of these, at least in the long run, is Kunnie (Kunzang) Topden who we teamed up with recently and who, among many other things, runs the non-profit organisation SIFA (the Swedish-Indian Film Association). Kunnie and her SIFA managed to have parts of an Indian movie, Dil Jo Bhi Kahe (“Follow your heart”), shot in Stockholm already back in 2004, years before we got our first project here. She has experience in the industry, has many friends in both India and Sweden and she loves movies just as much as we do – we expect there to be much to gain from this new-found relationship!

In additional news the company plans to make a trip to India in September to entertain contacts with our friends there and also to be present at the premiere screening of our first project “1920 – Evil Returns”.  Details on exact dates and itinerary is coming up shortly – if you are in India during later September and early October and want to meet up, just let us know and we will make it happen!

Uttarakhand Film Association

An association of around 400 film persons in the state of Uttarakhand nominated an International Media Person Sandeep Marwah, the President of Marwah Studios and Founder of Film City Noida as its Chief Patron to guide them better towards their goals.

Sandeep Marwah who is five times World record holder, producer of 1800 short films and teacher to 9000 media professionals accepted this honor during his visit to Dehradun.

“I am flattered to be associated with this film maker’s young organization and assure you that better days are ahead” said Marwah here at Hotel Madhuban, Rajpur Road, Dehradun in a small get together of film makers.

We are privileged to have Sandeep Marwah on our board. We are confident that under his leadership and direction we can rise to any heights” said S.P.Negi President of UFA.

Anuj P Joshi, a renowned film maker of Uttarakhand extended his thanks to Sandeep Marwah for accepting the Patron ship.

 “India and Nigeria may be apart on the globe but the hearts of both the countries are close to each other” said Chuks Jonathan Chikezie, the first secretary of Nigeria High Commission in India in the capacity of Chief Guest while narrating the relations of both the countries. “We can develop strong relations with each other through films. I am impressed by the objectives of INFA and hope to work together” Chuks added.

 “I pleased to announce a film project to be directed by the Nigerian Director under INFA and supported by International Public Broadcasting Forum. That can be a wonderful start of cultural exchange too.” said Sandeep Marwah Chairperson of Indo Nigerian Film Association.

 The program started with the national Anthem of Nigeria and closed with Indian National Anthem. Dr.Om Gupta, Kalyan Sarkar, Harshvardhan, Ugo Ben also spoke on the subject. R.K. Singh paid vote of thanks. Later Marwah presented the life membership of International Film And Television Club to Chuks Jonathan Chikezie.
