Doug Stanhope is America’s greatest export. If you like Lenny Bruce, Sam Kinnison, Bill Hicks or Richard Pryor then make sure you track down some of Dougie’s shows online. He reckons he will offend every person in the audience during his shows. I have his DVD Deadbeat Hero – he is so funny I can’t even bring myself to watch it again. It’s just too good.

I hate when your friends quit drinking on you, don’t you? It’s sad. I’ve lost more friends to AA than Liberace did to the virus. It’s sad to see ‘em go. You see a thirty day chip on your buddy’s key ring, it’s like seeing a toe tag on his cold, stiff corpse.

He’s a filthy, pissed up, irate drug taking misogynist and I absolutely love him. My sister went to see him live last year. Her friend Flangela Lashes (Manchester’s greatest drag queen) went along. The two of them are pretty ‘controversial’. They’ll appreciate me saying that as they laugh at everything you’re not supposed to laugh about. The two of them are a force to contend with. They reckoned that Doug had them crying all night. He went on stage and exploded. Apparently it was the darkest comedy routines they have ever seen and a work of absolute genius.

Doug is at his finest when talking about Americans. He seems to capture the shitness of every day life. He’s like Bukowski on crack. More extreme than Hicks though. The American right wing absolutely HATE him. He is way too edgy for national broadcast – if you want to track him down I suggest you try and go to see him live or invest in his latest MP3 From Across The Street.

WASHINGTON – Marg Delahunty has braved the wilds of the American Midwest to come face-to-face with Sarah Palin.

Comedian Mary Walsh’s beloved character button-holed the former Alaska governor at a recent book-signing in Columbus, Ohio, only to be strong-armed away from Palin by a cabal of security guards.

The action was documented on Tuesday night’s “This Hour Has 22 Minutes,” [CBC] but four days later, Walsh was still marveling at her close encounter with one of the most controversial politicians on the planet.

“We told her we’re from Canada, and we’re just looking for a few words of encouragement for the Canadian conservatives who have worked so tirelessly to destroy the socialized medicare that we have,” Walsh recalled Tuesday from St. John’s.

“Four huge big burly guys started pushing, and I pushed back, but I got her attention, and she told us to keep the faith, something like that, and said we’re all trying for the same thing.”

After being kicked out of the book-signing, Walsh and her crew then waited outside at a loading dock close to where Palin’s bus was parked. When Palin emerged from the Borders bookstore, Walsh said, Delahunty – dressed in a more toned-down version of her trademark warrior princess costume – called out to her.

“Hey, remember us, we’re the Canadians! We came all the way here from Canada!” Delahunty yelled. “When we asked you that question, we didn’t hear your answer.”

Palin strolled over, looking down on Walsh and her crew to tell them that “Canada needs to dismantle its public health-care system and allow private enterprise to get involved and turn a profit.”

“Basically, she said government should stop doing the work that private enterprise should do,” Walsh said.In addition to those comments, Walsh said, she found it equally bizarre that no one was allowed to ask Palin any questions at the book-signing.

“It was great fun, but also very strange,” Walsh recalled.
“We’re in a bookstore, at a public event, in a place one would think was a bastion of free speech. And no one was allowed to ask questions. What are they afraid of?”

[Marg Delahunty is one of comedienne Mary Walsh's most loved, (and feared), characters.  In various costumes, basically what she thinks won't be attacked by security, Walsh as Marg has been fearless for years, elbowing her way into press scrums surrounding most anyone she believes needs a proper, Newfoundland question, politicians for the most part.  Most Canadian politicos and celebrities, and press savvy visitors, realize that whatever they or their entourages say and do will be broadcast on Marg's latest home on CBC's, "This Hour Has 22 Minutes", (a long standing comedic newscast), and try to answer her generally discomforting queries with attempts at humour, which are often more telling than if they ignored her.  I don't think Palin got the joke.  Her security certainly didn't.]

Her om dagen skulle jeg bytte en dvd på Platekompaniet. Helst i den nyeste BBC-tolkningen av Fornuft & Følelser. Den var utsolgt. Og jeg hadde uansett glemt dvd’en jeg skulle bytte. På vei hjemover gikk jeg forbi en annen filmforretning, og siden klokken var fem på stengetid gikk jeg innom for å se om ikke jeg kunne plukke opp litt britisk perioderomanse der istedet. Akk o ve. Jeg gikk ut derfra med St. Elmo’s Fire. 80-tallet produserte også store periodedramaer. Jane Austen introduserte aldri en antihelt som spiller saksofon.

Uh, havde helt glemt det. Det er sidste afsnit af Lærkevej idag. Hvad siger I? Skal I se det? – Jeg skal .. helt klart. XD

It's not about fame

Thankful for my parents, who knew that transistor radio was under the pillow but let it slide.

Thankful for my friends, who engaged in thousands of musical discussions over the years, especially the ones who said “you know, you really should write this down…”

Thankful for the countless comics and artists and musicians I’ve met or talked to over the years for sharing their gift and allowing a peek inside their world.

Thankful for the opportunities I’ve had inside and outside the industry, the people I’ve met and worked with and the ability to connect and share the inspiration that art brings to those who let it.

Thankful for having a sense of humor to deal with the rough times and the absurdities of life.

And above all, thankful for my family…for everything.

Life is short and we take things for granted, sometimes despite best intentions. Slow down a minute and take a good look around.

Even during times of personal loss and sorrow, there are truly things to be thankful for…so that’s what I’m going to do today. I hope if you are in that space, you will find that peace as well.

JULIA DAVIS IS GOD

I’ve been trying to think of my ‘favourites of the decade’ list. I can’t help it, I’m a virgo. It means I like making lists and putting things in alphabetical order. Human Remains was made in 2000 I think, it stars Rob Brydon and Julia Davis. I do a great impression of ‘Spindalero’. This is because Julia pulls of a brilliant Leeds accent, I pretend I’m her when I talk about Lady Diana…

If you haven’t seen Human Remains then here’s what you’ve been missing:

I was most excited to hear that Floria Sigismondi is directing her first feature film.  It takes as its subject the all-girl 70s group The Runaways, of which Joan Jett was a member.

The Runaways are probably best known for their songs “Cherry Bomb”, “Born To Be Bad” and “Queens of Noise”.  Kristen Stewart of Twilight fame (or should I say mania) is due to play Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning is to play Cherie Curie.

Sigismondi is a multimedia artist working in film, video, photography and installations.  She is probably best known for her music videos for Marilyn Manson, Bjork and Christina Aguilera. I have long been an admirer of her work and am really looking forward to seeing her feature debut.

Om Inside I’m Dancing:

Den irländska filmen ”Inside I’m Dancing” handlar om vänskapen mellan de två unga männen Rory O’Shea och Michael O’Donnell. Rory kommer i 20-årsåldern till hemmet som Michael tillbringat livet på sedan barnsben. Rory är som en frisk fläkt på den av konventioner hårt ansatta institutionen. Michael lämnades bort av sin far, oönskad på grund av sin cerebrala pares. Hans sluddrande tal är svårt att förstå för de flesta och han sitter i rullstol. Rorys ankomst blir en vändpunkt i Michaels slentrianmässiga liv. Rory är också rullstolsbunden men samtidigt full av livskraft. Han har inga problem med att förstå Michael när han pratar och övertygar honom om att han skulle klara av att leva ett vanligt liv i egen lägenhet och lobbar samtidigt för den frihet som ett institutionslöst liv skulle innebära. Genom ihärdiga försök och slutligen tack vare idén att Rory ska fungera som Michaels heltidstolk, lyckas de två männen få sin ansökan om eget boende godtagen.

I’m going to see New Moon again with my flat mates and super special girlfriend. I’m kinda excited I really liked it and the twilight series so far is excellent. Jacob is fit.

Tomorrow I’m going for a meal with my darling, today we had sirloin steak and a mixed side salad potato meal, it’s going to be a good few days for us.

My communications firm plan has also been elaborated to incorporate a large violent growth. The concept is looking solid now, planning to work on it when my lady is away this weekend. Should be good. I do have a mates birthday Otley Run though…will end up slaughtered by 6pm and struggling to move.

Den helt vanliga amerikanska flickan Page Morgan och Danmarks prins, Edvard, ska gifta sig, tyvärr så visar det sig att enligt hundratals år gamla danska lagar måste prinsen gifta sig med någon av kungligt blod, gör han inte det så måste han abdikera. Den som finns där för att ta Pages plats som blivande drottning är prinsessan Kirsten, som också är en gammal vän till Edvard. Kirsten gör nästan vad som helst för att få sin vilja igenom.

En hårdnackad person som lovar att berätta hela sanningen om vad som får män och kvinnor att gå igång.

On a roll. Like buttah!

Louis C.K. is on fire this year. Still rolling through his most prolific period of writing and performing, he’s recorded a two-disc version of his 2009 show Hilarious earlier this year. That’s coming out soon even though people are still discovering 2008’s Chewed Up and 2007’s Shameless. That’s three solid new shows in three years while managing to juggle all his other activities.

And as previously announced, Louis signed a deal for a new show on the FX network. It’s never going to be as permissive as pay cable, where Louis was able to float scenes like this classic on Lucky Louie. But damned if FX hasn’t been pushing the boundaries of basic cable as far as they can stretch with Sons of Anarchy and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. (FX has to be my favorite network right now when you factor in Damages and six seasons of Rescue Me. Even The League is growing on me a bit, and the upcoming Archer looks great!).

And today, Louis launched his own plug for the show. This is just too funny. Warning: NSFW (of course).

HBO never should have cancelled Lucky Louie. But now that Louis C.K. is lucky enough to have another shot, here’s hoping FX has bigger stones than HBO did. I can’t imagine the new show having a better cast than he did before, but he has the golden touch right now and I would not bet against him.Watch for Louie in the Spring of 2010 on FX.

Three Men and a Babe

I kveld har jeg vært på kino og sett Black Dynamite, en varm og herlig hommage til 70-tallet blaxploitation. Den var både hysterisk morsom, stilig og utrolig gjennomført. Jeg satt og smilte fornøyd gjennom hele filmen. Derfor ville jeg bare benytte anledningen til å anbefale den på det grøfste!
