Something personal. As a senior copywriter for the marketing department of some American company, part of my job description is to create creative AND informative marketing copies. Because of a bandwidth spike a couple of years back, video streaming, games-playing, and social networking sites have all been banned.

As if that’s not enough, the company introduced a filtering system called “Barracuda” to further filter out what sites can be accessed. Even Wiki articles on TV shows have been banned. Some work-related sites are also inaccessible. And while I understand the need to keep the bandwidth down, not being able to access poetry sites and the like is seriously hampering my so-called “creative process.”

To remedy the office-wide boredom gnawing on all the employees in the marketing department, several individuals have opted to bring guitars to work. And since I left mine at home, I guess today, I’ll have to be content staring at my monitor until ideas pop up.

Maybe next week I’ll bring some bubble wrap to keep me busy during braindead hours. That or I’ll start crocheting. Might as well make a placemat.

NoiseSoft Releases the “QU” and “ROOT DELAY” VST Effects
November 26th, 2009.

NoiseSoft announces the release of two new effects, the Qu quad filter effect and the Root Delay effect.

The Qu is a new VST quad filter effect plug-in for Windows. The Qu consists of four separate “all band” filters with five separate controls for each channel (A to D). The individual tuning of our custom filters produces audio illusions and phenomena that can not be found anywhere else; phase and frequency based stereo panning controls mean that a user can dial in effects that contrast across the whole audio spectrum, especially when used with track envelopes within the host workstation.

Controls and features:
- VOLUME: This controls the master volume. Lowest setting is silence and highest setting the maximum output.
- MIX: Controls the mix quantity of all filter sections.
- PITCH (A/B/C/D): Adjusts the affected pitch of each individual filter section from low drones to bell-like high pitched ringing.
- RESONANCE (A/B/C/D): Adjusts the resonance of each filter, from minimal effect to extreme phase shifting and everything between.
- FREQ (A/B/C/D): The frequency control for each filter has custom coded extreme frequency shifting, capable of lo-fi filtering in the low knob settings, all the way to harsh industrial/glitch effects.
- LEFT and RIGHT (A/B/C/D): These are separate controls for left and right phase shifting.
The Root Delay is an echo / delay VST effect plug-in for Windows. The Root Delay is designed for creating dub style echo and filter sweeps as well as other delay effects found in all kinds of modern electronic music. The effect features a delay section with separate adjustable controls for left and right time settings and also a filter section with controls for sweep rate and depth. The delay and filter combination produces everything from granular glitch / idm style processing to sweeping dub style echos and slap back effects.

(milliseconds from 0ms to 10ms).
- FEEDBACK: knob is for controlling the amount of echos you would like.
From 1 to (almost) infinity.
- RES knob: Adjusts the resonance of the filter, from minimal effect to drone
sound and everything between.
- CUT: Adjusts the filter cutoff. From very metallic to very (sub)bassy.
- RATE: Adjusts the sweep rate of the filter, from about a minute to pseudo granular.
- DEPTH: Adjusts the depth of the filter effect. From light filtering to very dramatic sweeps.
- WET: Controls the volume of the delay and filter effects combined.
- DRY: Controls the volume of the dry signal.

Pricing & Availability:
The Qu and the Root Delay are both priced at $14 each, both available for Windows as a VST effect plug-in.

However, this audio file, post on the ZDNet site by “Akira Doe” suggests that the Minister may have pre-empted the results of the trial by talking to Jim Wallace of the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL):

The reality is that there are technologies that are at least a [sic] viable level at the moment that do not slow down the internet one iota which can be used to achieve a level… and I’m seeing the Communications Minister next Thursday about this to find out where its gone, but all reports sort of support what I am saying.

I finally managed to create a solution with all the bells whistling and sort… as far as I know

I finally managed to create a solution with all the bells whistling and sort… as far as I know.

The Visual Studio 2008 solution can de found here.
The SQL database can be found here.
Attach the database in SQL. If you find any problems or have any questions, please leave a comment or send me a mail.

For this solution to work, you need to have added the AJAX-entries to the web.config of your MOSS2007 with SP1 installation, as well as the infrastructure-update.
Compile and add the compiled DLL’s to the BIN-directory of your site. By default, the Debug-version automatically gets compiled to the path “C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80\bin”.
Then, add the correct entries in web.config (SafeControls and Assemblies), then, add the WebParts (DevTinkeringParents en DevTinkeringChilds) to the WebPart-gallery and put them in a WebPart-zone on a page of your liking.

You also need to have Visual Studio enhancements for WSS 1.3 installed, because the WebParts are based on the SharePoint WebPart-template.

I swear the pool looked fine 2 weeks ago! But last week, I noticed it getting greener and greener.

I swear the pool looked fine 2 weeks ago!

But last week, I noticed it getting greener and greener. During the week, I did do a manual vacuum of the whole pool, but it didn’t make much difference. I think when I manually vacuum, I tend to be impatient and do it too quickly which results in the particles churning back up into the water instead of being sucked through the filter.

So, on Saturday morning, I was faced with trying to recover a green murky pool.

First I checked the whole filtration system. Yep, the Klever Kleena hadn’t been doing its job. It seems that it was stuck on the incline down to the bottom of the pool. I cleaned out the filter baskets and did a backwash. Checked the timer settings on the automatic filter and seems that it was set to run for only 4 hours a day – my winter setting. I bumped it up to 7 hours a day. OK – that bit done. Unfortunately I didn’t take a “before” photo, but just picture the pool above BEFORE the cleaner went through it – gross!

My home water test kit seemed to think the levels were all fine, but I took a sample to my pool shop just in case and the guy said the same thing. I bought a container of Chlorine to shock the pool anyway. So in theory, any algae that’s floating around should be killed and then sink to the bottom of the pool, and then the Klever Kleena should suck it up.

So, back home, poured in the Chlorine, then turned on the filter to run for the rest of the day.

By Monday morning, the pool was starting to look better.

Pool on Monday morning

And this morning, it was looking much better. Visibility was great, but there’s stil a bit of sediment at the bottom of the pool in sections – might need to do a manual vac. Chemical levels still seem OK with chlorine on the high side.

Now the challenge is for me to keep it this way so the kids can swim through summer!

Our latest addition to the iTunes App Store, MonoPhix Monochrome App for iPhone is getting an update

Our latest addition to the iTunes App Store, MonoPhix Monochrome App for iPhone is getting an update within the next weeks. It’s the first of the -Phix apps that will be updated to version v2.0. But MonoPhix carries this tag with pride bringing a total of 15 changes and new features.

In MonoPhix 2.0, iphoneographers will be able to control the output of their Monochrome pictures completely. Where other apps only enable you to change the contrast settings, MonoPhix v2.0 will enable you to set highlights and shadow intensity. In this way you can make simple grayscale images with incredibly bright clear parts or adjust the sliders to make beautiful Monochrome images of pictures taken in all conditions. All changes can be previewed using a thumbnail.

Another major change is the absence of the Hard Mono and normal Grayscale features, these can now be accomplished by setting the slider in the right position with or without a little help from 4 preset settings. The missing buttons have been replaced by buttons to enable Sepia and Antique filters using the same depth and sliders which you use to make monochrome images.

Other changes include a significantly smaller filesize, a more logical save dialog and faster Monochrome filters provided by a major upgrade to the MonoCore engine.

But pictures say more than 1000 words (here are some pictures edited with MonoPhix v2.0 Release Candidate 1) :

Alright, I hear you guys, we had it in the polls and you guys wanted gear, so here we go! I’m

Alright, I hear you guys, we had it in the polls and you guys wanted gear, so here we go!

I’m not very good at always having the newest gear, as I’m pretty much into buying only what has an actual effect on what I do. This not being Video, we’ll not see much of the 7D talk here. So let’s talk about a piece of gear that really affects stills. One I just recently got: The Cokin 8 stop solid ND filter.

I’d been reading about the Cokin system every once in a while and always lusted about getting me one of those someday. The huge problem with the things though is the availability. At least here in Switzerland, there’s no easy way to get them. At least so I thought. The other day I went to see the new 100 Macro at my photo retailer’s and saw a Cokin catalog lying around. Two surprises there, well three actually (the third being the Macros new IS)… The first was the fact that my retailer could get the Cokin stuff at all and the second was the affordability. These things are not cheap, but compared to the B&Ws and the HOYAs they’re pretty okay. Plus, once you have the holder they’re only about 30 bucks a piece. Considering that and to distract myself from wanting a 100L Macro, I got an 8 stop solid ND to start with, as its effect is the hardest to digitally replicate in post. What it does, is basically keep the equivalent of 8 F-stops of light from getting into your camera. This allows for way slower shutter speeds. Where you’d normally have a 1/100 of a second, you get 4 seconds if my math is correct (it never really is, but you get the idea ).

Today I finally found the time to test it in the field. We went out, fought the elements and got to a little pond a few miles from the house. The weather was terrible as it has been all weekend. With intense fog and hefty rain. Once on location, the first piece of gear that turned out to be very useful was the ultraflat Velbon I brought. In nature photography to be able to stretch the legs of a tripod out sidewards is a superb feature. This way we could set it up over the water and have the camera in the perfect angle. Next up was the filter. It consists of three parts. The first one is a solid metal adaptor Ring. It’s well crafted and screws into the filter Ring and broadens the front of the lens to make it fit into the the holder. It also has the weird side effect of having your lens say “FRANCE” where it should say “JAPAN”… French lenses, seriously?

With the adaptor thingy on, the holder slides right over it and clicks in with a little pin. The holder is made out of quite flexible plastic, it doesn’t feel mega solid, but then again it doesn’t have to. It has room for three filters which on the one side is good, as you can stack filters. On the other side, it protrudes pretty far out because of that. Doing that, it shows up in the frame at angles wider than 21mm. This is the first of the two only downsides of the P series. If you’re doing very wide angle photography, you should go with the larger holders of the Z series. The other downside is that one can’t use the lenscap over the adaptor ring, so you need to purchase the special Cokin lenscap or, as I do, take the whole thing off after using it.

Aside from that, the whole thing is quite cool. As mentioned, one can slide up to three filters into the holder. So far, I only have one filter so I can’t really tell how stacking will affect image quality. What I can tell though is that using one doesn’t really reflect negatively on iq. I had the fear that, given the distance between the filter and the front element, reflections could be an issue. But even with a strong light coming from behind the camera, I found no decernable flaws on that front.

Beyond that, the filter does exactly what it is designed for, it keeps a lot of light out of your camera. This makes composing and focussing your image quite difficult. Here’s where the two part solution regarding the adaptor ring and the holder really shines. You can do whatever you have to do to take your picture and then just slide on the holder with whatever filter you have stacked on there. Quite an awesome feature compared to a screw-on filter.

So… this is pretty much as far as I can go with this review so far. I still have to test it a bit more and I’ll update as I do. Yet, the first impression is very positive.

Disini saya kasih nama OSUG-Bandung.

Step 2,

Pilih Create Filter di sebelah button Search the Web

Step 3,

Step 4,

Checklist Skip the Inbox agar email yang baru masuk tidak masuk ke Inbox dan checklist Apply the Label dan pilih label yang sudah kita bikin. Jangan lupa checklist Also apply filter to xx conversations below dan jika sudah yakin klik Create Filter.

Step 5,

Microsoft, which seems to always be branching out, started a new website a while ago, called Bing (.

Microsoft, which seems to always be branching out, started a new website a while ago, called Bing (.com). It’s a search engine, meant to compete with Google.

The surprising thing is that is does a good job, and it may actually be competition for the search giant (which coincidentally is also branching out a fair bit). The home page is a clever, more involved and colourful version of the Google one, but keeps the simplicity. It’ll display a photo in the background, with little links and facts you can click on, but which hide unless you mouse over them. The Web search is very similar, but displays a preview if you mouse over the side of a result. The images search is nice in that it doesn’t display all the somewhat useless information until you mouse over it. They also give more options for image selection, in terms of size, colour, and content.

Possibly the most interesting news is that Bing added a new search feature for videos. You can search videos with ease, and they’re displayed like the images. The cool part is that it displays the length, upload date, and source, without you having to do anything, AND lets you preview it just by mousing over it. Not only that, but you can filter by length, size, resolution, source, and screen type.

The rest is much like all search engines, setting aside perhaps the “News” category, which will find only news results (quite handy actually).

Whether or not you believe that Microsoft is a greedy corporation stealing everyone’s ideas, you should definitely check out Bing. It may not be a brand new idea, but they have used some ingenuity this time and Bing is definitely a contender for favourite search engine, at least for me. Coupled with Windows 7, which is said to be much better than Vista and quite user-friendly, is this the future of Microsoft. if it is, I like it.

An unusually mild November gave me itchy feet last week, so I did a road trip up to the Tawatinaw Valley north of Edmonton. I connected with the gravel road at Nestow just off Highway 2A after an hour long drive in the dark. I had no goal in mind, so I slowly cruised up the road in the pre-dawn light, admiring the glow of the birch and aspen groves as they reflected back the car’s headlights. I was keeping watch on the eastern sky as I drove, looking for a spot where I could find a birch grove backlit by the rosy morning light. I was imagining this photograph: the pale trunks of a birch or aspen grove painted with light from a hand-held flashlight and the red glow of dawn behind. But the valley slope and the morning light did not coincide with my imaginings, and I drove on.

The Tawatinaw Valley is a glacial remnant. While today the river flows north to the Athabasca river, geological evidence indicates that it originally flowed south, a tunnel valley that had formed beneath the retreating Laurentide Ice Sheet 12 000 years ago¹. Today the valley road provides a pleasant drive through farmland and ranches interspersed with natural forest. I stopped at a Watchable Wildlife (a now apparently defunct attempt by the Alberta Government’s Sustainable Resource Dept. to hi-lite areas of natural interest) location and walked down to a viewing platform overlooking some of the small lakes that are dotted here and there up and down the valley. I took some photographs using a split field neutral density filter to help equalize the light between the shadowed foreground and the sunlit shore behind.

We have had an extraordinarily mild November this year. The autumn color is long gone and the bright orange-yellow fall color of the distant tamarack trees are now a rusty-brown. There are a few Natural Areas² in this region to explore, one near the town of Opal is said to be good tiger beetle country, so I will be exploring this area more frequently in the spring.

Jeszcze chyba ostatnia informacja. W komputerach grafika jest przedstawiana w układnie współrzędnych innym niż kartezjański. Nie mamy wartości ani argumentów ujemnych, więc wygląda to tak – lewy górny róg ekranu (obrazka or sth.) to punkt (0, 0), iksy rosną ku prawej, natomiast igreki ku dołowi.

A oto zdjęcie na którym będziemy pracować:

Zaczynamy.

Skala szarości

Gray scale otrzymujemy poprzez przypisanie każdej składkowej koloru średniej arytmetycznej wszystkich 3.
Przykład: R = 255, G = 197, B = 97, średnia arytmetyczna to (255 + 197 + 97)/3 = 183, a więc ten pixel w skali szarości będzie miał R = 183, G = 183 oraz B = 183.

Negatyw

Przykład: R = 255, G = 197, B = 97, R = 255 – 255 = 0, G = 255 – 197 = 58, B = 255 – 97 = 158

Obrót horyzontalny

Obrót horyzontalny to bardzo prosty filtr. Najlepiej wytłumaczyć go chyba w ten sposób.
Dwie uwagi. Użyć nowego obrazka do rysowania albo lecieć ostatni z lewej, ostatni z prawej, przedostatni z lewej, przedostatni z prawej… stosując tempa na barwę.

Powielenie horyzontalne

Obrót wertykalny i powielenie wertykalne

odpalamy metodą i otrzymujemy:

Na koniec oczywiście paczka z klasami
