On what should have been a fun-filled day at the races, Nick O’Bannon has a horrific premonition in which a bizarre sequence of events causes multiple race cars to crash, sending flaming debris into the stands, brutally killing his friends and causing the upper deck of the stands to collapse on him. When he comes out of this grisly nightmare Nick panics, persuading his girlfriend, Lori, and their friends, Janet and Hunt, to leave… escaping seconds before Nick’s frightening vision becomes a terrible reality. Thinking they’ve cheated death, the group has a new lease on life, but unfortunately for Nick and Lori, it is only the beginning. As his premonitions continue and the crash survivors begin to die one-by-one–in increasingly gruesome ways–Nick must figure out how to cheat death once and for all before he, too, reaches his final destination.

I’m not sure exactly how many films I’ve seen in my lifetime.

It is probably over a thousand, the list below barely scratches the surface of all the films I’ve seen and it was surprisingly easy to come up with. Rather than systematically list films by era or genre I got my brother’s girlfriend Dawn to call out any films she could think of.

I thought of this idea about five minutes before I began typing and Dawn rattled off films as they came to her while I typed out brief verdicts for each one. I initially intended to create a system for rating but found it too restrictive so I just wrote a brief instinctual verdict for each one.

I have included a link to Rotten Tomatoes and the score of each film, I haven’t seen some of these movies in a very long time…

NOTE: The percentages at the end are not my scores but the percentage of positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

I’m doing this a day early because I have some free time and there is no way that the Browns are going to win tonight. Thems the breaks. I’ll tally my record later but again, it is atrocious. Picks….

Dolphins (4-5)/ Panthers (4-5)- Thursday night game…fuck off. Dolphins.

Steelers (6-3)/ Chiefs (2-7)- I’ve been taking classes at Otterbein and lemme tell you something… that shit compared to OSU is like this game. There are no bums at Otterbein and there are no bums on the Steelers team. That organization is some nice shit. Chiefs are run down, piss stained High St. They suck. It could be I’m a jaded asshole from working on High St. for a zillion years but seriously? It’s a dump ass wasteland.

Browns (1-8)/ Lions (1-8)- this is the High St bum. Somedays, when I have feelings, I think these guys get a bad rap. Then someone will take a shit in the stairwell of work and all bets are off. This game will be on my shitty tv. I’m off on Sunday. I’m going to cave my own skull in. Lions?

Saints (9-0)/ Buccaneers (1-8)- Again, dumpy team plays a killer team. If this were a movie, it would be Beauty and the Beast with the ending of a suicide. Scratch that, I was watching the news today and they interviewed that lady who had her face ripped off by a chimp. That is as fucked up as this game. That lady has to live without hands, eyes, and a face for the rest of her life. The Bucs will be around forever as well, at least until 2012, when we all will die. Saints.

Falcons (5-4)/ Giants (5-4)- two teams that need a win. Remember those horny ass nerds in high school that would lie about ignorant ass shit to try and impress a girl? They needed laid or beat up. Throw that geek a fuck or beat the shit out of him to shut him up. Giants get laid, Falcons get beat up.

Bills (3-6)/ Jaguars (5-4)- this game has as much implication on the NFL as the Octo-mom has on real life. FML. FNFL. Jaguarssss muuuuuuurrrrrrrddddaaahhh.

49ers (4-5) Packers (5-4)- TWO TEAMS FIGHTING FOR THEIR LIVES LIKE THEY TERMINAL. PACKERS.

Seahaws (3-6)/ Vikings (8-1)- why is this game happening? Vikings.

Colts (9-0)/ Ravens (5-4)- some dumb ass reporter will bring up the rivalry from like WWII when the Colts left Baltimore for Indianapolis. Shut the fuck up. No one was even alive then to care. Colts.

Redskins (3-6)/ Cowboys (6-3)- Cowboys v. Indians again! Let’s ditch these stereotypes or introduce a Taliban themed team. Cowboys.

Cardinals (6-3)/ Rams (1-8)- CHHHHRRRIIIISTTT,this game is more annoying than “Beat Michigan” week. Cards.

Bengals (7-2)/ Raiders (2-7)- good news non-cable havers- this will be the second game on Channel 10. THIS IS WHAT I CAN LOOK FORWARD TO. My Sunday is the equivalent of going to a palm reader and them telling me I have AIDS or in other words, being in the new Final Destination Infinity: Real Life Shit.

Chargers (6-3)/ Broncos (6-3)- a decent game with divisional implications. I would watch it but Cinci is playing and it will be aired instead of this game. I’m going Chargers because I’m real good at making bad choices.

Jets (4-5)/ Patriots (6-3)- slob v slob mastermind aka battle of ill fitting clothed men with lumpy bodies (nh). Pats.

Eagles (5-4)/ Bears (4-5)- I saw this .gif of Cutler getting hit in the face by a ref on accident. It was really funny. That dude… goddamn, I do not like him kinda like I don’t like my neighbor because he looks like Pete Wentz. Eagles.

Titans (3-6)/ Texans (5-4)- I don’t want to write about this but I expect the Texans to shred the Titans.

Sometimes I wonder if how many people would cry when I die. Would there be plenty of them, or just a few? Sometimes I wonder if I have done enough good on earth for me to be able to get to heaven when I die. Have I inspired enough people already? Have I been a good influence to others in my whole 21 years? Despite my numerous sins and mistakes, can I still be considered as a positive force in the universe? Will the world mourn for me when I’m gone? Would it even notice at all? Would the people even remember my name?

Yo. When do you think people die? When they are shot through the heart by the bullet of a pistol? No. When they are ravaged by an incurable disease? No. When they drink a soup made from a poisonous mushroom? No! It’s when…they are forgotten (Dr. Hiruluk – “One Piece”).

Life is so not certain, but death is. We should remember death everyday, and live like a dying people, because it is only when we learn how to face death that we learn how to face life.

We say that the hour of death cannot be forecast, but when we say this, we imagine that the hour is placed in an obscure and distant future. It never occurs to us that it has any connection with the day already begun, or that death could arrive this same afternoon, this afternoon which is so certain and which has every hour filled in advance (Tod Waggner, “Final Destination”).

wow jam packed past few days. hung out a lot with anthony! on thursday we watched land of the lost. love that movie. and attempted to watch this one called wedding slashers…it was crap. and then we watched tamara. stayed up til like 4 in the morning and then woke up at 9:30 oh gosh.

friday…picked up kenny. punk ass wasn’t awake when i went grr. haha. we listened to some music and watched up. such a cute movie. and then we went and got my check and to pick up anthony from work. we talked for a bit in the car. he opened up to some things that are quite personal. and i to him. it’s interesting what you learn about someone and how far in sometimes that they’ll let you go. or how far you will let them dabble in your life.

then we went to red robin. yum. and saw final destination, it was alright. i think kenny and i are going to go see paranormal activity on monday. i’m really excited to see that. went down to the lobster shop for a minute, then went to anthony’s and watched the number 23, i really liked it. there was quite a bit of sex in it though, not that that’s bad or anything and then we went to wincos where i stole 2 pounds of candy on accident. no seriously it was an accident! i would have paid! and we started watching skeleton crew but that again was terrible. the cover looked good and it sounded good but terrible quality. anthony and kenny both suck at picking movies.

woke up at 1, haha and smoked and talked. brian and leanne came to get kenny for disney on ice tonight. got super irritated. came home. ate some dinner and watched the ugly truth with my dad and brother. got my first letter from brandon! so super excited about that, gonna write him back tonight after work!

then went to julena’s for a bit, went to walmart and we went back to her house and watched some tv and she made me an amazing mix. she makes the most awesome mixes ever. love that girl.

got super irritated today because i’m so fed up with people pretending to be my friend. if you don’t want to be my friend then fucking tell me so i can stop trying. tell me and i swear i’ll leave you alone and go away like you want. just man up for once in your fucking life. quit being so pathetic it makes me sick to my stomach. i’ve had a lot of shit already happen this year i don’t want or need any more drama.

LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ — Marvin Pendergast, a former police officer who retired only two days ago, was killed in a boating accident near his new home in Lake Havasu City.

Pendergast spent over 30 years working for the Los Angeles Police Department, serving most of his years as a detective belittled by the majority of his coworkers. Pendergast was known best for chasing down recently unemployed and divorced middle class white men rampaging across the City of Angels in search for answers and retribution for their failed lives, often with Pendergast shooting the individuals at Manhattan Beach Pier.

Pendergast did inexplicably reach retirement, however, and moved with his wife to Lake Havasu City, the couple’s planned retirement spot. Pendergast bought a yacht as per his retirement plan, but never learned how to operate waterborne vessels properly as even he himself fully expected to be a corpse before retiring. Tragically, his inept boating skills caused the accident as he careened the yacht into the Parker Dam.

“When his retirement was coming up, [Pendergast's coworkers] were always joking that he’d die before he was able to call it quits,” said Detective Sanchez, an officer who worked with Pendergast over the years, and who also constantly put cat litter in Pendergast’s desk drawer. “Once I heard he died only two days after retirement,” Sanchez continued, “I was like, ‘Oh, I guess nobody ever thinks about that too much.’ Still tragic, I guess, but not as tragic.”

Amanda Pendergast, the victim’s wife, stated that she fully expected her husband to be dead before retiring as well. “The day after he retired I was sort of relieved, sort of disappointed,” said Amanda. “I’m not actually too upset right now because I had been mentally preparing this for years. I even had a new love interest set up for my husband’s tragically timely death which is now somewhat less timely.”

Captain Yardley, Pendergast’s officer in charge for many of his final years of service, called his death “unavoidable”. “Sure he was able to escape death’s cold grasp before he retired,” Yardley reasoned, “but this obviously threw the universe out of whack. Policemen dying right before they retire is both a rite of passage and completely out of everyone’s control.”

Yardley questioned if Pendergast’s death was actually an accident or if Pendergast was ultimately murdered by “the creepy Thanatos-premonition thing” from the 2000 film Final Destination.

Yardley reflected on the greater relationship between all policemen and dying before retirement, saying “We all [police officers] know that when we sign up, we’re not just here to protect and serve. We’re also here to die tragic deaths before we complete out legacy of work, usually immediately after sharing our long-thought-out plans for our golden years with a younger partner, likely in the squad car before what is thought to be a ‘routine’ traffic stop, or perhaps at a diner that is, unbeknownst to us, filled with assassins hired by the mob to kill the lead detectives threatening said mob’s existence.”

Green Day are amazing live. I really can’t explain just how amazing…but I’m goin

Green Day are amazing live.

I really can’t explain just how amazing…but I’m going to give it a go…

Well yesterday was Halloween and instead of the usual (sitting in doing nowt or going to town) I went for a trip to Manchester to see a little known band called Green Day.

I had to get up early (half 8! MEH) to catch my train just after 10 then had a lovely 3 hour train ride on me tod to Manchester where I met Elizabeth half an hour after I got there. After we found the hotel (and realised we couldn’t check in for another hour) we went to do some exploring and discovered that Manchester like to repeat shops. Seriously, there’s like 8 HMVs or something! What’s the point?

We were planning on checking out the Hard Rock Cafe for some food but when we got there we remembered we’re skint students so ended up rolling into pizza hut then get this….went back to the hotel for a nap haha.

With it being Halloween and us being used to spending Halloween in Newcastle of course we went out in fancy dress – I was a genie and Elizabeth was Alice from Resident Evil (or so I’m told, I’ve never seen any of them). We looked well cool walking through Manchester pretty much the only people dressed up…

We got the times messed up a bit and it turned out the support band came on at the time we thought the doors opened so after we planned to miss the support and turn up late we actually ended up turnin up jst after Green Day came on stage, then we cudnt work out which door took us to the standing area and wasted another minute or 3..so that kinda sucked but the rest of the night MORE than made up for it.

When we were lookin down at the standing area I noticed that nobody was moving…Green Day were playing…but everyone was pretty much just standing there..so when we got down to the floor we quite easily moved through the boring masses to near the front where people were actually moving and jumping around. Then it took some skill and a bit of pushing and squeezing during fast jumpy songs and we managed to get REALLY close to the front. By the end of the night I was only like 2 people from the front of the stage.

This resulted in some pretty damn awesome photos, even if I do say so myself. I’m not going to go into detail about songs etc, they played for nearly 3 hours including two encores - they pretty much played EVERYTHING!

The cool part of the night was that they didn’t just stand there and sing and talk, they were actually pretty damn entertaining about it, they were always getting people up on stage, lil kids to squirt the crowd with supersoakers, random lass to sing along with them, some kid from San Francisco (WTF?), and then they got people up to play one of the songs for em (can’t remember which one – ask Elizabeth) They made sure they got people who could actually play the instruments though – some lass who was about 16/17 to play drums, an early 20’s lad on bass and some lass with green hair and a white face who was about….19 on guitar (Billie Joe made a joke of ‘only one person in this band has a penis *looks at green haired girl* well…maybe two’.) They played the song with Billie Joe singing then at the end the drummer lass did a lil solo – she was mint! Billie Joe was standing goin ‘woaaah!!!’ while Tre Cool practically fell in love haha he thought she was great, when she finished you could see him really animatedly talking to her as if to say ‘omg that was awesome!! wow you’re great!!! I’m so impressed!!!’ Jealous. I love Tre Cool.

During the encore while Minority was played Elizabeth decided to crowd surf (even tho we were literally like 3 people from the front) so for the second encore when Billie Joe played all the acoustic songs I was on me tod and decided to get the camera out and take full advantage of the fact he was pretty much just a metre away…

Here’s some of the pics I took:

Billie Joe Armstrong singing the acoustic (second) encore at Manchester, 31/10/09

Billie Joe Armstrong up close at Manchester, 31/10/09

I’m not going to put any more up, if you want to see the rest just ask me. Instead, have a Green Day song. This is from youtube and it says it’s from Manchester MEN but they played 2 days so I’m not sure if it’s the one I was at or the day before. It’s also the song he was singing as I took the photos above so you can kinda get an overall image from the two. Green Day – Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) ♫ http://blip.fm/~fqhp1 Enjoy!

There have been so many horror films as of late then why do we need sequels as well.

Well because horror films are kings of the box office right now.

It costs next to nothing to make them and people line-up around the block to see flicks like “Saw 2” and “When a Stranger Calls”.

Why are people so fascinated with the new wave of horror films especially when 85% of them are unbelievably bad?

The FD series stretches back to the original film 2000’s “Final Destination” which was created by Glen Morgan and James Wong who created the short-lived Fox series, “Space: Above and Beyond” and contributed to the cult series “The X-Files” and “Millenium”.

The film’s plot had seven high school students suddenly bolt from a doomed airliner before it takes off and explodes. It turns out that one of the students (Ali Larter) had a vision of the plane’s destruction and freaked out. For the rest of the film, the escapees die in rather bizarre accidents as it seems like fate itself won’t let them live.

2003’s “Final Destination 2” was a follow-up to the first film finds yet another high-school girl (A.J. Cook) having a premonition of a rather nasty highway pile-up when her friends embark on a road trip.

This brings me to FD3, as I have dubbed it. This time it’s yet again another high school girl (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) who has a vision of a roller coaster disaster while on a visit to an amusement park with friends. The third film also marks the return of series creators Glen Morgan and James Wong.

What makes this series so entertaining to audiences is how each of the victims is killed. The traps set out by fate remind me of that old game I used to play as a kid called “Mouse Trap” except it ends up killing some one.

I like how each of the traps are setup from basic situations in life. It’s fun to see fate closing in and how stupid people can be. The opening roller coaster sequence is probably the best sequence of the film and it has such an excellent execution.

As third films go, this film is not bad for what it is. It probably would have been better to see it go straight to video but horror films are hot right now.

I liked the performances of new-comers Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Ryan Merriman. Winstead has the potential to go places if she can find the right projects. I also fondly remember Merriman from the 2003 short-lived TV series, “Veritas: The Quest” which I still love to this day.

FD3 is about the same as the films before it and if you liked the first two then you are sure to like this one. What else can you say about a third horror film?

In 2000, a little horror film “Final Destination” was one of the surprise hits of that year. Now almost three years later, a sequel comes calling.

The premise of the first film was a group of students are saved from a airplane explosion when one of their fellow students has a premonition before the events. Then “death” hunts each student down to settle the score. Each student dies by a freakish accident put into motion by the smallest thing but amplified by the “reaper” himself. We learn in the sequel that there was only one survivor of the first film, Clear Rivers (Ali Larter), who is now housed in a padded room at her own request.

When the film opens co-ed Kimberley Corman (A.J. Cook) is getting ready for a spring break vacation with some friends. Kimberley is about to pull onto the expressway when a mind-numbing premonition ricochets through her head where she sees a horrific traffic accident and many lives are lost. Kimberley slams on the breaks and causes all the victims of the forthcoming accident to stop on the on-ramp. She freaks and that incident diverts death’s plan. Kimberley and her on-ramp cohorts become a marked by the reaper. Who will live and who will die? Is there anyway to stop the reaper?

“Final Destination 2” is one of those horror movies where you aren’t sure if you are supposed to be hysterically laughing or cringing at the gore. The fun of these films has always been how the victim is going to die. In slasher films, you know that the slasher is going to kill them but in these films it could literally be anything.

The first film was dark and took everything way to serious for the “slasher-style” plot. The sequel is more fun because the creators have really used their imaginations and gall to deliver these clever accidents.

The film’s star Ali Larter reminded me a lot of Sigourney Weaver in “Aliens” and Jamie Lee Curtis in the “Halloween” movies. Her presence in the film was basically the only link to the previous film. I like the actress but I do wonder if it was necessary to have that link?

“Final Destination 2” is a popcorn movie in its purest form. It is a lot better than a lot of the horror-thriller fare out there now.

Another teen horror flick in the wake of “Scream 3” written by the guys who put the creepy in the X-Files. Sounds like a wild ride or is it? The story centers around a group of teens who survive an airliner explosion through a bizarre incident. After the crash, one teen (Devon Sawa) becomes completely convinced that the Grim Reaper is after him and he is hunting the group in the way they should have died in the explosion.

Producer, co-screenwriter, and director James Wong re-teams with his partner Glen Morgan for a stab at the silver screen. Morgan and Wong’s greatest exploit has to have been the couple seasons of the X-Files where it became the staple for TV suspense and to this day the series is still trying to recapture. They have continue to dabble in TV with such series as the little seen but at times brilliant “Space: Above and Beyond” and the NBC TV show “The Others“. But with the debut of “Final Destination” it’s the team’s first real venture onto the silver screen.

Ali Larter

Destination starts off with a great opening 20 minutes where we are shocked and dumbfounded by the opening plot. I haven’t seen that thrilling of a plane disaster scene since 1993’s “Alive“. Wow, what a scene. And as the film moves along a lot of the scenes are shocking and keep you on your toes. But it’s the latter half of the film that bugged me. The time I am talking about is just when ex-Hollywood sex symbol Ali Larter’s hair starts to get blonder. Ever notice that in Hollywood films they always dumb down the leading lady until she is supposed to catch the hero’s eye? It’s at that point that Sawa’s avoidance of the Grim Reaper get really hokey. That cabin scene is a perfect example. Every movie like this needs a supernatural ending and the finale here is gimmickry and unrealistic. If you love the humor-horror trilogy of “Scream” like so many million people then Destination has all that to offer but watch out for a couple goofy things along the way. I guess other “Scream” clone “I Know What You Did this Summer” and especially its sequel got this back lash too.

The young people out there will love this, I am sure.

Every time I see this clip I get goosebumps! How horrible it must have felt for the mother to see the pram with her six-month old son roll and drop onto the tracks, train arriving. The people around her are just as shocked and horrified. Like a scene out of Final Destination. How lucky and happy it all ended ended up though! The baby escaped with a scratch on the nose!

By Jeff Weaver

4/5 Stars

In this day and age of film, horror movies have fallen into a niche of being cliché and cheesy with films like My Bloody Valentine 3-D or Final Destination. The new film “Paranormal Activity” breaks this genre wide open and turns it on its ear.

Shot in the same first-person handheld style as movies like “The Blair Witch Project”, “Open Water”, and “Cloverfield”, this film follows the same kind of formula as the “Blair Witch” by attempting to coerce the audience into thinking that these are true events. The movie opens with a thank you to the parents of Katie and Micah, and concludes with a single slide of credits that are simply the copyrights. To debunk any myths about this film, I will simply say that this is a piece of fiction. This is not real. There is a director and writer and his name is Oren Peli.

“Paranormal Activity” follows the lives of Micah and Katie. They have recently purchased a handheld camera to document the strange happenings that are occurring in their household. Katie reveals that theses same kinds of occurrences happened to her previously in her life when she was 8 years old, right before her house burned to the ground. The filming is mostly done by Micah himself as he documents the lives of Katie and himself for almost a month. He evens sets up a tripod at night while they are sleeping and connects the camera to his computer to be able to record any occurrences that happen at night. Micah and Katie are pulled through a series of horrifying nights with many shocking moments that will leave audiences scared for days.

This film is able to accomplish what many horror film hope to do: actually scare the audience. Every night, Micah sets up the camera so it can see the bed in the room and out of the door into the hallway on the top floor of the house. The effect of having a static camera shot looking out into the dark hallway is chilling. This film builds tension that is remarkable. A simple movement of a door by an unforeseen force made me nervous. The building up of a moment in this movie seems to take it to the breaking point and then a little further to pull that much more anticipation out of the audience. The effect of having the time clock of the camera at the bottom of the screen makes it all the more tense because the audience can see the time elapsing and how much time has been spent waiting for something to happen each night.

One aspect of this film that is worthy of applause and praise are the tricks throughout the film. Some of the happenings that take place in this film must have taken a great mind to think up how to do them without any special effects. Some of the occurrences are seemingly impossible without computer graphics, but it did not seem as if these were digital effects.

“Paranormal Activity” was also able to dodge having cheap or gimmicky tricks. There were no close-ups of people with hands grabbing them out of the darkness, there was just a static camera shot, sounds, and slight movements. The subtlety of this film was brilliant. A shadow on a door was such a frightening moment that could have been so easily missed if the viewer was not fully attentive.

It is amazing to see a movie that is actually horrifying. I felt tense and my heart was pounding throughout much of this film. Without question, this is one of the scariest and best horror films ever.

Top of the morning, hockey fans! Last week we used Science to break down the Dallas Stars‘ first nine games into easily-understandable/mockable categories; this week, I was all set to lambast the Stars for becoming the first allegedly-NHL-quality team to lose to the Toronto Maple Leafs — the insane pressure of maintaining the NHL’s winning record against Toronto was building and building to the point where no one wanted to be the first team to suffer the throes of ignominy.

Fortunately for the Stars, Toronto played Anaheim. The sense of relief when Anaheim was clobbered — thereby making Wednesday’s Stars-Leafs tilt just another regular season game with no Stone of Shame attached — was akin to the relief of taking a massive dump. Except instead of me, it was the Anaheim Ducks, and instead of a massive dump, it was a colossally legendary mountain of steaming feces with runny rivulets of diarrhea spreading in all directions across the ice like a dark brown sun. Great job, Anaheim. Awesome.

More on that later. This week we’re delving into the deeply-disturbing dark depths of Halloween Hockey Horror Flicks. Here’s the AFI’s Top ten list, compiled by thousands of film critics over hundreds of years.

Pictured: Pronger stays alive with another life-extending boarding penalty.

10. Rinku — One late night, Chris Pronger pops in an unlabeled game tape into the Flyers’ state-of-the-art VCR, and, after witnessing a series of discordant, seemingly unrelated images, he is informed he has only seven games to live. Can Chris collect enough elbowing and boarding suspensions to avoid playing out his inevitable fate?

9. The Shiny — Wayne Gretzky is a troubled man just looking for some peace and quiet, and feels he’s finally found the answer when he moves from the intense media scrutiny of Canada to the desolate desert moonscape of suburban Phoenix. While at first Wayne is happy with his surroundings, the cavernous emptiness of Jobing.com Arena and the disturbing appearances and disappearances of a ghostly Kyle Turris slowly drives Gretzky into a murderous rage. All work and no goals makes Wayne a dull boy.

8. Night of the Living Thugs — Maple Leaf GM Brian Burke wakes up one day to find out that his office is completely surrounded by slow-moving, brainless flesh eaters in Maple Leaf jerseys. Armed with a sawed-off shotgun and a salary cap, Burke must defend his boarded-up corner office from an entire roster of mindless thugs, until the next clueless, desperate NHL club can swoop in and save him from a grisly demise.

7. An Omen — Brett Hull, a powerful man of international importance, proudly brings his free agent offspring back home to the AAC. But things start going awry when the off-season pickup, Sean Avery, turns out to be the spawn of Satan and a donkey. Does Hull have the cajones necessary to destroy Avery, or will his fatherly love lead directly to the Dallas Stars’ apocalypse?

6. Seen — Three Tampa Bay Lightning forwards are trapped in a game against the Penguins, and forced to make a terrible decision: Do they potentially sacrifice their individual stats and go help their overmatched defensemen in the defensive zone, or do they continue to hang out around center ice, waiting for a clearing pass that may never come? WARNING: The graphic imagery and grisly, real-time footage of Tampa’s defense and goaltending are not for the squeamish or faint-of-heart.

Not listed: Leprechauns, starring the 2009-10 Montreal Canadians.

5. Purple Dragon — Grizzled cop Colin Campbell is a man on a mission: He must find the perpetrator of a string of vicious hip-checks that are making the city streets of Los Angeles run red with blood. The serial hip-checker taunts Campbell, leaving a string of clues — such as making sure his nationally-televised crimes are widely available on youtube and nhl.com — but it’s a race against the clock for Campbell, who must find the culprit before his own son Gregory visits LA to play the Kings.

4. Chokergeist — When Joe Thornton needs a fresh start, he heads out west to the sunny confines of San Jose. But after a series of strange, inexplicable occurances, Joe starts to investigate a little more into his new team — and finds out that the Shark Tank was built on an ancient Indian burial ground. Thornton must find and restore the angry undead Indian bones before the Sharks’ next first round playoff exit, or the streets of San Jose will run with liquid teal.

3. The Flexorcist — While digging around in a forgotten backroom at Vogue’s offices, promising young intern Sean Avery accidentally releases an ancient cacodemon when he unwittingly pops the collar on a 70s-era muscle shirt. The evil spirit possesses the body of Rangers GM Glen Sather, who begins making diabolical free agent signings while screaming obscenities like “Scott Gomez sucks c**ks in hell!!!” Can the grizzled Mark Messier and his young protege Chris Drury exorcise Sather’s demon before it’s too late?

2. Finals Destination — Right before he signs with his next team, Marian Hossa has a vision of that team winning the Stanley Cup — and wisely signs with the Penguins. When he has a vision that they, too, will win the Cup, Hossa again temporarily defeats Fate by signing with the Red Wings. Can Marian successfully avoid his fate a third time, or will Fate finally catch up to him and give him the Stanley Cup against his will?

1. Texas Groinsaw Massacre — Martin Havlat and Marian Gaborik are on a summer road trip from Minnesota to New York when they get lost in the back country roads of rural Texas. After they pick up a mysterious hitchhiker, they suddenly find themselves ambushed by a family of cannibals. Havlat and Gaborik are then subjected to two hours of torture, in which their groins are ritualistically sliced, shocked with electrical current, skinned with a chainsaw, beaten with a sledgehammer, and ground into fine dust with a steampress.

That’s it for this week’s spine-curdling Cupcheck. Tune in next week when we visit with Mike Modano to find out what he’s been doing with his time off; his beating-up-nurses stories may surprise you.
