Die aktuelle Version des Mozilla Firefox verfügt über eine als kritisch eingestufte Schwachstelle. Ein erster Exploit ist bereits “in the wild”.

Der Sicherheitsexperte Guido Landi hat am gestrigen Mittwoch mit einem Proof-of-Concept auf die Schwachstelle hingewiesen und die Existenz der Selbigen bewiesen. Auf einschlägigen Webseiten steht der entsprechende Exploit bereits zum Download bereit.

Als zugrunde liegende Problematik wurde die fehlerhafte Verarbeitung von XML/XSL-Dateien angegeben. Diese führt zu einem Speicherfehler, wodurch zusätzlicher Schadcode in das System des Opfers eingeschleust werden kann. Laut Mozilla soll in der kommenden Woche das Update auf die Version 3.0.8 erscheinen und somit der Fehler ausgebügelt werden.

Ersten Einschätzungen zufolge könnte es sich bereits als hinreichender Schutz erweisen, wenn man als Anwender die Funktion von JavaScript deaktiviert. Deutlich sicherer fährt man als User aber, wenn man grundsätzlich bis zum Update keine XML-Dateien mehr aus unbekannten Quellen öffnet.

Von dem Bug sind alle Betriebssysteme mit den Firefox-Versionen 3.0 bis 3.0.7 betroffen. Einen ersten Patch haben die Entwickler von Mozilla bereits fertiggestellt. Selbiger muss aber noch einige Tests durchlaufen, ehe er freigegeben werden kann. Das Update auf die aktuelle Version kann dann in der nächsten Woche über die bekannten Quellen oder die integrierte Update-Funktion des Browsers bezogen werden

8:00 – finally got to work. Snowing in MD and for some reason took more than double my normal time to get here.

8:15 – after logging into both my Linux and Windows computers, getting my bottomless cup of Diet Coke I logged into email, Facebook, Friendfeed, Meebo, Staff Intranet

8:30 – updated blog post to include tags I had forgotten the other day (self professed tag whore)

8:40 – checked voice mail

8:42 – posted 3 job positions to Staff Intranet and library web site (made mental note that I must get HR trained so they can do this and not me)

9:00 – Talked to boss and hubby to help me sort out feelings, fears, and concerns.

9:45 – helped reference desk with customer who wanted to move all his Comcast email to Verizon

9:52 – help staff with Horizon Wimba issue

10:33 – worked on email bouncebacks

10:45 – helpdesk ticket regarding suspended hold turned out to be a matter of timing customer tried to suspend hold at the same time a copy was checked in for them

11:00 – phone call with staff member about Firefox 3.0 and new staff desktop

11:15 – helpdesk ticket regarding reformatting page on SI (staff Intranet)

11:30 – hooligans threw snowballs at our 2^nd story windows (right behind my desk).  Inside joke – our Network Admin every year since he’s been at this location has thrown a snowball at the window.  First couple of times we didn’t catch on that it was him.  Now it’s just tradition and we humor him by accusing hooligans not him.

11:45 – worded email about ILL request for purchase and vendors we saw demoed the other day – Relais, AutoGraphics, OCLC and SirsiDynix.  If I had to pick one right now based on what I saw it would be AutoGraphics even though I went in leaning toward Relais (they just aren’t ready but to be honest none of the solutions were there yet).

Have you ever noticed that sometimes Firefox isn’t very responsive while loading a page? As a frequent StumbleUpon user, this behavior grates on my nerves so I went looking for a solution.

When Firefox is loading a page it uses one of two modes: There’s a high priority mode that doesn’t pay as much attention to your mouse and keyboard, but loads the page faster. There’s also a lower priority mode that interrupts the parser more often to respond to input events. It’s even documented at Mozillazine.

What we can do is tweak the amount of time before Firefox switches from lower priority mode back into high priority mode.

Type about:config into the Firefox address bar, and then filter by the following:

content.switch.threshold

Most likely the key doesn’t exist yet, so you’ll have to set it by right-clicking in the empty area and selecting New \ Integer. Use these values when prompted:

• Key Name: content.switch.threshold
• Key Value: 1000000

The default value is 750000, or 3/4 of a second. The more time that you tell Firefox to wait before resuming high priority mode, the more responsive the application will feel… but it will obviously take a little longer to load the pages. You could reverse this if you were more worried about speeding up page load time.

Note that this setting only works if you haven’t changed content.interrupt.parsing to false.

One of the things that has really annoyed me about running Firefox on Vista is that Internet Explorer looks really slick with the Aero Glass extending down onto the entire navigation bar… and Firefox just looks pathetic sitting next to it. Thanks to the Glasser extension from my new favorite person 6XGate, IE no longer holds the edge in slick UI.

Note: This extension only works in Firefox 3 Beta 5 or later, and is still an alpha release, so it’s likely to cause crashes and generally have problems. But it looks sweet!

Notice how the glass extends all the way down the navigation bar now:

You can also add in a Stylish script to change the bookmarks bar to look like Windows Explorer if you want, although I don’t personally like the way that looks:

Installation

Head over to MozillaZine and install the extension, and then install the Personal Menu extension as well so that you can hide the menu bar by right-clicking on the toolbars area and unchecking “Menus Toolbar”

Terus terang sebelumnya nggak ngerti sama sekali cara bikin script untuk konfigurasi proxy otomatis di Firefox, tapi pas baca blog-nya kang Iang di sini, jadi langsung punya ide untuk nyoba bikin script sendiri…
Nah akhirnya langsung bikin coba script kayak gini :

Selesai diketik trus disimpan dengan extension .pac.
Berhubung Firefox yang digunakan adalah Firefox Portable maka file proxy.pac disimpan di folder Firefox Portable … tapi nggak masalah koq kalo disimpan di tempat laen…

Proses selanjutnya adalah setting proxy di Firefox… melalui menu Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Settings … untuk yang pake Linux di menu Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Settings …

Vào trang chủ của Mozila download bản Fiefox 3.0 mới nhất về và để nó trong /home/username_cua_ban
Sau đó mở Terminal lên :

1,Backup bản cũ

cp -R ~/.mozilla ~/.mozilla.backup

2,Giải nén file down về vào thư mục /opt :

sudo tar -jxvf firefox-3.0.tar.bz2 -C /opt

3,Loại bỏ file firefox-3.0.tar.bz2

rm firefox-3.0.tar.bz2

4,Di chuyển và backup các plugin mà bạn đã cài đặt trong thư mục /opt

sudo mv /opt/firefox/plugins /opt/firefox/plugins.backup

5,Tạo ra liên kết mềm giữa thư viện plugin và thư mục plugin trong /opt/firefox/plugin

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/firefox/plugins /opt/firefox/plugins

6, Cài đặt ,chuyển hướng ,tạo liên kết

sudo dpkg-divert –divert /usr/bin/firefox.ubuntu –rename /usr/bin/firefox

sudo ln -s /opt/firefox/firefox /usr/bin/firefox

Hace sólo dos días anunciábamos la posibilidad de descargar Firefox 3.0.2.

Era una buena noticia para que se dejara un poco de hablar de tanto Chrome, y nos fijásemos otra vez en el navegadores de la fundación Mozilla.

De todas formas estas cosas hay que hacerlas bien. La nueva versión tiene un pequeño bug en el uso del gestor de contraseñas, por lo que ya esta disponible la nueva versión 3.0.3.

Es recomendable su descarga, y es recomendable que el navegador del panda rojo haga las cosas un poco mejor la próxima vez, para evitar tener que recular tan pronto.

Por otra parte es de agradecer la rapidez con la que han detectado y solucionado el problema.

Desde hace bien poco esta disponible para descarga la nueva versión del navegador del panda rojo: Firefox 3.0.2

El navegador surgido de las cenizas de Netscape, se  renueva, aunque tampoco tiene grandes novedades, sólo corrige 5 errores (bugs) de estabilidad y seguridad.

Para ver en acción la famosa nueva máquina virtual de javascript TraceMonkey que promete ser mas rápida que V8 de Chrome tendremos que esperar a la versión 3.1.

No puedo negar que mi querido Firefox es el navegador de cabecera de este blog, y altamente recomendado por un servidor, y por eso he seguido el itinerario de esta versión 3 (1, 2 y 3).

Esta pasión no es acrítica, y he probado bastantes navegadores (y programas que dicen serlo) y siempre me quedo con Firefox, algún día tendré que explicar porque.

De todas formas esta nueva versión viene en un momento muy adecuado, cuando sólo se habla del Chrome de Google (del que aquí no hablaré como navegador), un poco de foco en el navegador de Mozilla viene bien (aunque la última vez que “salió en los papeles” no fuese para nada bueno).

Así que nada, a actualizar o descargar, y si no usas firefox, anímate a usarlo.

Por cierto, el compañero Raúl, nos da en su blog una guía de los atajos de teclado del Firefox, seguro que no los conocías todos.

Pues Les cuento que econtré un Add-Ons para Firefox que le cambia la cara tanto a Gmail, como al Calendario.

Google… Chrome… Its looks great and all, well back to the basic question, why all of a sudden now?

The answer is simple, Upcoming IE8 & Firefox are now attempting to add a new browser feature (InPrivate) which will allow the user to browse through the sites without allowing the websites to track the activity through the cookies, history, form data or password.

Earlier, the users who know about this would clear the browser cache, now with InPrivate, it will be automatically erased after the browser session was over (lol).

This creates a greater impact on Google’s base from the search to analytics, so now they want to counter attack by providing a browser.

In today’s world, almost each and every activity is tracked down by companies like Google (DoubleClick), Omniture, etc… These guys take a greater hit, if IE8 launches since the market share is really high and Microsoft will make sure the browser gets updated ASAP.

Thats all it is about Google’s Chrome, We know Google’s Chrome has lot of other nice features and it also has this privacy feature hidden as incognito (its under create a new incognito window(CTRL+SHIFT+N)), but IE8 is coming out with a very open and visible privacy protection for end users who are unaware of they are being tracked.

Even with the InPrivate turned on, they are ways to track the activity of user in a website. Google Chrome looks like a pre-caution step by google before it gets affected by IE-8.0.

Another thing, I noticed is little different, On the Chrome Browser Click options, In “Under the Hood” Tab click on the “Change Proxy Settings” It will bring down the Internet Explorer’s Internet Options …. No Clue… This makes me think, Even if the Chrome Browser itself is build from scratch…

So if I change the proxy setting in IE, it will surely affect the Google’s Chrome as well… So … I don’t think Google’s Chrome as a Independent Browser… Come on Guys did you release the beta in a hurry!!!?

A Wall Street Journal review of Google’s new browser – Chrome – with some commentary on IE8 as well.

Google has introduced a new Web browser, called Chrome, aimed at wresting dominance of the browser market from Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. The move takes the Google-Microsoft rivalry to a whole new level. If Google succeeds, it will be a big deal, with major ramifications for the future of the Web.

But just how good is Chrome? How does it differ from IE and from less popular, but still important, browsers like Mozilla’s Firefox and Apple’s Safari?

I’ve been testing Chrome for about a week, trying out all its features and using it side by side with Microsoft’s latest iteration of IE, which came out just last week

With the emergence of Chrome, consumers have a new and innovative browser choice, and with IE8, the new browser war is sure to be a worthy contest.

Google Chrome has a cool built-in feature that lists the memory usage of all currently running browsers. This can be accessed by bringing up the Chrome Task Manager using Shift+Esc and then clicking on ‘Stats for nerds’. Or just type ‘about:memory’ into the Chrome Omnibar.

So I thought I would do a simple memory usage comparison by opening my most frequently used web applications.

Tab 1: Google Gmail (https://gmail.google.com)

Tab 3: Google Calendar (https://www.google.com/calendar)

I opened the same 3 tabs in Google Chrome (beta), Mozilla Firefox 3.01 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 (Beta 2) and then opened the memory page in Chrome.  All three browser sessions were started afresh.

Looking at just the ‘Private’ memory column, IE8 is a memory hog while Chrome and Firefox use similar amounts of memory.

I am pretty impressed at how well the Chrome beta works compared to IE8 beta 2.

La comunidad Mozilla México ha publicado la primera versión del paquete de idiomas al español mexicano con código de lengua es-MX disponible a través del sitio web oficial de complementos (Add-ons) de Mozilla para el navegador web Firefox.

Ricardo Meza, fundador y líder de esta comunidad, comentó lo siguiente:



Estamos muy contentos con esta publicación ya que representa el primer paso hacia la localización del navegador web Mozilla Firefox al español mexicano.

Uno de los puntos claves para poder crear las traducciones mexicanas distintas del español será contar con una localización en español mexicano, a partir de la cual, se sustituyan las cadenas de texto a la variante lingüística objetivo.

El paquete de idiomas no está disponible al público en general por tratarse de una versión preliminar, de ser necesario, los interesados deberán crear una cuenta en el sitio de complementos de Mozilla para poder instalarlo.
