If you’re running Firefox, you’re probably well aware of the many add-ons that are available through the Firefox add-ons portal. However, only a few add-ons have ever made it past my 24 hour test and into normal use. Each one of these “approved” add-ons is fantastic in it’s own way, which is why I’ve listed them below. Download and enjoy:

No Script | No frills security add-on, which blocks Javascript (amongst other things) until you allow it. Good for security, but I find it’s also fantastic at blocking adverts.

Download Statusbar | I am not a fan of the built-in Firefox Download window. I much prefer the little bar provided by Download Statusbar, which sits at the bottom of Firefox and tells me the time remaining on my active downloads. I also tweak it to clear downloaded files after 10 seconds.

Customize Google | Initially this add-on failed to make an impression, until I noticed an option to “remove ads” on Google web searches. “Hang on a second”, I thought to myself, “does this mean that I can now search Google without any stupid sponsored results?” – because that would be awesome. Sure enough, that’s what Customize Google does, and it’s brilliant.

IE Tab | Now don’t get me wrong, I love Firefox. It’s been my favourite browser for years now, but sometimes you meet a website which doesn’t quite display correctly. At this point, I used to switch to Internet Explorer and probably complain like a little girl. All that changed when I discovered IE Tab, which allows the rendering engine (in the active tab) to change from Firefox to IE. This usually takes a second or two, but is still so much better than loading up IE. The best bit is, that when you’re done with the IE rendering engine, you can click once and switch back to Firefox. I love IE Tab, and you will too.

حديثاً أصبحت لدي مشكلة في الإضافات Add-ons الخاصة بـِ Firefox، حيث -بكل بساطة- لم يعد بالإمكان تثبيتها.

السلوك المعتاد في الإضافات هو أنه بعد تحميلها والشروع بتثبيتها يُطلب إعادة تشغيل Firefox لإتمام العملية، حيث من المفترض أن يبدأ عملها أو على الأقل أن تظهر ضمن قائمة الإضافات… حسناً لم يعد الأمر كذلك، فبعد إعادة تشغيل Firefox لا تعمل الإضافة ولا حتى تظهر في القائمة!!! كذلك فإن تكرار المحاولة لا يجدي نفعاً.

إبحث عن جدار النار لديك- سبب المشكلة كما إتضح لي هي حزمة Kaspersky Internet Security التي قمت باستخدامها بدلاً من Kaspersky Anti Virus. فهي تعوق عملية التثبيت، والمشكلة الأكبر هي أنها تفعل ذلك دون إشعار المستخدم كما تفعل عادة عندما نقوم بتثبيت برامج عادية. وبذلك قد يضيع بعض الوقت في محاولة إكتشاف السبب وإيجاد الحل.

كحل آني قمت بتعطيل برنامج KIS للحظات ريثما تكتمل عملية تثبيت الإضافة (لا تنسى إعادة تفعيله فوراً). ولاحقاً كان الحل الأكثر تحديداً هو بتعطيل خاصية Proactive Defense فقط في البرنامج.

بإعتقادي، ليس شرطاً أن يكون KIS فقط لديه هذا الإشكال، فمن المحتمل أن يقوم أي برنامج حماية آخر بنفس السلوك.

Bunu yaparken de birçok yükleme sitesi kullanıyoruz. En çok kullanılan sitelerden bazılarının -RapidShare, Hotfile, Megaupload- üzerine yazılmış bir script ile ilgili olacak bir yazı.

Scripti Mozilla Firefox üzerinden Greasemonkey eklentisi ile çalıştıracağız. Mozilla Firefox bilgisayarınızda bulunan Internet Exlporer programının yaptığı işleri daha hızlı ve daha iyi yapan ücretsiz bir yazılımdır, eğer bilgisayarınızda yüklü değilse bu adresten indirerek kurabilirsiniz. Ardından Mozilla Firefox’u açıp tekrar GNGRWEB’e erişmeli ve Greasemoınkey ve RapidShare Link Checker yükleme işlemlerini Firefox üzerinden takip etmelisiniz.

Firefox’u kurdunuz ve şu an bu siteyi Firefox’la görüntülüyorsanız, Greasemonkey kurulumuna geçebiliriz. Firefox Add-ons sitesindeki eklenti sayfasına gidin ve “Add to Firefox”a tıklayın. Ardından karşınıza çıkan pencerelerde uygun seçenekleri uygulayarak kurulumu bitirin. Firefox’u yeniden başlatıp, işlemlere devam edin.

Firefox içine Greasemonkey kurulduktan sonra scripti yükleyip işlemleri tamamlamış olacağız. Şimdi bu sayfayı açın ve “Install” butonuna tıklayın. Ardından karşınıza çıkacak olan pencerede “Yükle” butonuna tıklayarak bitirin. Artık siz de RapidShare, MegaUpload, Hotfile gibi sitelerin dosyalarını daha hızlı bir şekilde kontrol edebileceksiniz.

Bu seçenek bir program değil Mozilla Firefox’a ait bir eklenti: Pearl Crescent Page Saver Basic. Yani kullanmak istiyorsanız artık Firefox’a geçmelisiniz. (Mozilla Firefox bilgisayarınızda bulunan Internet Explorer ile aynı işi çok daha kaliteli yapan ücretsiz bir yazılımdır.) Eğer Mozilla Firefox bilgisayarınızda yüklü değilse bu adresten indirebilirsiniz. Eklentiye ait resimle birlikte onun da bağlantısı aşağıda olacak. Ancak unutmayın! شخصياً، بعد تجربتي للعديد من برامج الخلاصات استقر الأمر على استخدام  Google Reader. ليس لمشكلة في هذه البرامج ولكن بالدرجة الأولى لبساطة جوجل ريدر ولأن بالإمكان متابعته من أي جهاز يتوفر، دون الحاجة لتثبيت أي برنامج ومن ثم سحب المواضيع ومزامنتها. السلبية الوحيدة التي كنت أجدها فيه هي -كما نعلم جميعاً- عدم تحديد العدد الحقيقي للمواضيع غير المقروءة إذا تجاوزت 1000 موضوع، حيث يكتفي عندها بكتابة +1000.

كنت دائماً أبحث عن طريقة لتوفير مثل هذه الإمكانية منذ زمن إلى أن وجدت سكريبت يقوم بذلك Google Reader Unread Count.

يعمل هذا السكريبت من خلال متصفح Firefox. ومكتوب بلغة JavaScript لذلك تحتاج أولاً إلى تثبيت إضافة GreaseMonkey على المتصفح لكي يعمل.

而在磁碟陣列上，依現實的考量，以利用軟體磁碟陣列為主要的選擇。而對於Software RAID，在所們曾提過的FreeNAS上內建就提供這個服務。而mynas所利用的作業系統Ubuntu 8.10的應用程式庫裡面也有不錯的Software RAID應用程式mdadm(2.6.7)可使用。自己若在實體一次就安裝磁碟陣列沒甚麼信心，你可以利用像VirtualBox或是VMware WorkStation等這類虛擬主機軟體來試跑一下。

• FreeNAS上所提供的網頁控制介面可以讓你很容易的來使用在 FreeNAS上的磁碟陣列的功能。先點選工具列上的磁碟->管理，將所有磁碟納入管理。再來就是將要組成陣列的磁碟格式化，這裡點選磁碟 ->格式化，將每個要組成陣列的磁碟格式化成Software RAID，點選磁碟->軟體RAID選擇你要的陣列型式，將所需的磁碟選取並套用後，再將這個磁碟陣列格式化(點選磁碟->格式化)為你要的格式(UFS、EXT2或FAT32等)，最後選取磁碟->掛載點，給這個磁碟陣列一個掛載點，這樣大致上就完成了。你可以點選狀態->系統看一下磁碟空間並利用FTP去測試一下他是否可被使用和執行。

• mynas上採用軟體磁碟陣列程式mdadm，來構成mynas 上的磁碟陣列系統。若在你的NAS也有安裝Webmin，那你可以利用他的Linux磁碟陣列的模組來用很簡單輕鬆的方式來建構你的磁碟陣列。當你裝上你所要建構陣列的磁碟，並將他們每顆磁碟建立分割區fdisk /dev/sdx(看你裝幾顆做幾次)，做好後，開啟你的Webmin網頁控制介面並選取硬體->Linux 磁碟陣列，選取你要建立的磁碟陣列等級，並按壓下建立磁碟陣列設備等級，在其中選取所要建構陣列的磁碟。若要開機就載入磁碟陣列設備，請將是否強制啟動磁碟陣列選取為"是"，再按下建立就可以了。回頭選取剛才所建立的陣列，就是/dev/mdx將他點選開始格式化和建立掛載點(若要開機後立即掛載請在編輯掛載內容內是否立即掛載選"掛載")，若事後要更改掛載方式，請在Webmin的系統->磁碟與網路檔案系統，在這內頁去做修改。若要測試一下是否會立即掛載請重開機，要試試他是否可執行你也可以利用FTP去做測試(當然所設的掛載點需要FTP伺服器所能連結的目錄)

而在這次測試後自己也在YAHOO的拍賣中購得兩顆 IBM 80G IDE硬碟來建構RAID 0，在實體的安裝規劃中似乎比在虛擬主機程式中快很多，大慨十分鐘內就可以架構完成了，所以現在mynas也可以有自己的磁碟陣列系統了。

在測試時若你有使用Firefox瀏覽器，建議你加掛FireFTP這個FTP客戶端的外掛，除了一般的功能外，他也支援SSL和SSH非常好用。
