Everytime new year comes different kinds of fireworks can be seen and displayed everywhere but have you ever wonder about the history of fireworks when and where they first came from?….

Fireworks are believed to have come from Chine 2000 yeras ago.It is thought that the Chinese cook mixed three kitchen ingredients KNO3, Sulfur, Charcoal and then was heated and dried. Once this was done it turned into a black powder and once burned made a loud bang. They named this substance “huo yao” which means fire chemical. This chemical was then inserted into a hollow bamboo stick which later was called a launch tube. Once thrown into a fire the gases produced by igniting the powder caused immense pressure to build and eventually blast the tube apart. This was the start of a great invention and the basic fire cracker was born. These fire crackers played an important role in Chinese festivities as they were thought to be powerful enough to scare off spirits. Pyrotechnics in China were called firework masters and were well respected for their knowledge to produce such displays of light and sound. China now is the leading manufacturer and exporter of fireworks.

The Italians have to be given credit for developing the true form of fireworks. They are the ones that developed aerial shells that launched into the air and exploded into color. Firework displays grew more elaborate over the years and gradually worked their way into the back yards of families. For almost 2,000 years the only colors that could be produced were yellows and oranges from charcoal and steel.

A time would come when people would realize how powerful these explosives were and how they could be applied to warfare. Within a 100 years of the basic fire cracker being invented the Chinese had discovered they could take the basic fire cracker and attach it to an arrow and shoot it at an enemy. This was called a fire arrow. They had also developed what was called “Ground Rats” which is a rat propelled from inside the fire cracker and thrown at an enemy not only scaring soldiers but causing horses near by to go wild.

Do you excited on this coming new year? well like you, im excited too! I love watching different fireworks seeing it from the sky! I know that fireworks is really fun and wonderful to watch. But fireworks are explosives and burn at high temperatures, so that we need careful handling and storage
These is my simple advice for this coming New Year
Tip1:Never allow children to play with fireworks
Tip2:Read and follow all warnings and instructions
Tip3: Use only approved fireworks from a licensed retail outlet
Tip4:Make sure that other people are out of range before lighting fireworks
Tip5:. Never give fireworks, even sparklers, to young children

Always remenber that Safety is important whenever not being safe a can kill or hurt you, or damage property. . so that follow my advice!
Advance happy New YEar!!!

A couple of nights ago, I saw a ten-minute fireworks display. I was alone at our second floor veranda, smiling to myself while watching the darkness split open by wonderful, wonderful patterns of light.

I had always loved fireworks – somehow, they seem always rather unexpected, beautiful but unexpected, and hearing them explode and rip the night sky apart just causes a surge of adrenaline to my system.

My eyes feast as I see them, one after the other, come into being and be amazing fiery things for a couple of seconds, sometimes a little more, breaking the stillness of the night, and in an instant be gone with only a little trace of smoke to mark its short existence.

I like watching fireworks because they teach me a lot of things: that darkness can hold surprises, the most beautiful only during the darkest; that sometimes, things must be unexpected – and short – to be more meaningful; that a little smoke can be enough to remember a glorious moment; and that in many instances, even a split second can hold many wonders.

This weekend, borough councils up and down the country have been putting on firework displays for Guy Fawkes night. Yesterday was the turn of Tower Hamlets. Their display, called ‘Great Balls Of Fire,’ was in the brilliant Victoria Park. I wanted to go, but wasn’t sure as I had my skate dance lesson at Hyde Park in the afternoon. As you know, my skating is crap with a large ‘C’ and the effort of keeping myself upright while I try to master dance moves (the definition of stupidity, if ever there was one) always wears me out. Today was no different, though I have to say I didn’t do too badly with the moves this time. There was definitely a sense of achievement.

That evening, the tiredness hit me like a brick, but the dangling of the carrot called mulled wine, at the home of The Ever-Gorgeous Dez before the start of the display, got me out of my stupor. The journey from home to Dez should not have taken more than 30 minutes. One hour later I was still trying to get there. Three buses, ram to the rafters, shot past us as we waited at the bus stop. We managed to get on the fourth one, but were then hit with heavy traffic. By the time the bus got up to the halfway point of Grove Road, it had to divert as there was just a sea of people. I’ve been to displays in the past and never had I seen so many people. Where the hell did they all come from? It was too late for my mulled wine so I had to hope I would find my friends in this mass. Eventually I did and we all shuffled into the park. Once everything settled down, we got on with watching a spectacular display. The music had the theme of fire (natch) and featured such classics as Elvis’ Burning Love, the Doors’ Light My Fire, a cracking version of Johnny Cash’s Ring Of Fire and Kings Of Leon’s Sex On Fire, which makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up every time. I took a few pictures with my crappy camera phone. A few of which you can see here.

After the fireworks had all burned out, we tried to leave. It took nearly twenty minutes and considering the amount of people squashed together like Monday morning commuters, it was very calm and good-natured. I only heard a couple of guys having a go at each other and as I finally got out of the park and spilled onto the pavement, I found myself walking beside a protective boyfriend trying to reassure his clearly upset girlfriend to ignore someone who must’ve given her some aggro. We all made it back to Dez’s house where we polished off the wine, Pringles and anything else that wasn’t strapped down. She even managed to save a bit of the mulled wine I missed when I tried to get to her before the display.

A successful night all round, I think.

I once had a friend called Sarah (Gemini) whose nom de plume at the Tottenham Ct Rd Spearmint Rhino

I once had a friend called Sarah (Gemini) whose nom de plume at the Tottenham Ct Rd Spearmint Rhino was Sacha. She revealed all to me over a vanilla latte one day when I asked her how she got time to wash, dry and straighten her hair every morning. She said if it wasn’t her job remit she’d be slicking back wet hair into a ponytail and donning the loose Ts, tacky bums and flip flops worn by many of the tired looking parents on the school run. Sarah was thirty five and still working the pole. She’d split from a husband who used to drag her beautifully straightened hair across the kitchen floor before smashing her face with the fridge door and desperately needed to raise some cash for her and her little girl.

I sadly lost touch with her after 3 year old Violet (nicknamed Violence) was asked to leave on account of her hitting the other kids a few too many times. I was sad for Sarah because I knew the whole sorry story (her daughter had seen Dad hit Mum regularly) and gutted for me because she was fun and definitely the friend with the most interesting job. I later hooked up with one of Violence’s nursery teachers who said they wondered “about Mum’s career path” after Violet brought a marabou-trimmed g-string saying ‘hot mama’ on them for show and tell.

Back to tonight’s display. No I am not at the fireworks. I am sitting on a velvet sofa between the Swedes looking at Hot Mama pants and nurses outfits’ as Eastern European teenagers decorate the sofa around us, plying their trade for a £20 dance.
“Hi, how are you? Are you having a lovely time here tonight? Can I get you anything? Show you anything?” Bland, bland, bland. I can see why guys love coming here. These girls are the right side of twenty, scantily clad and don’t answer back when spoken to: so no threat to a man’s ego at all. Feeling like I should pick for a winner for my Swedish pals and hating to let the girls in front of me down I say, “What about her, she’s sweet?”. “How about the lady in latex, she’s lovely and you have to admit she’s put alot of effort in?”

“Wait, wayyyyyt,” says J in a soft sleazy tone that resembles the “T-rust in meeeee,” of the snake from the Jungle Book. “The besssst ones normally come lasssst.” Jan is looking clearly pissed off with his lack of date and not feeling a bit like having a dance with some girl who does it for money. I put my hand on his and tell him I’ll buy him a dance if he perks up. He cracks a half-hearted smile.

“Why don’t I dance for you and your lady friend,” says a blonde girl shaking her strawberry flavoured hair into J’s face? “She’s the one,” says J, leaping to his feet. Come on Abi, show me you are not typically English.” Well I clearly want to see every gory detail of the job my friend used to do and who knows, if Mr Was Right starts getting lax with the mortgage payments and freezes my housekeeping, I might just need a career. So I head behind a wooden screen to watch Misia, the Russian, yes J’s established her name, gyrate a very young bottom in front of us. She’s completely shaved, covered in baby powder and, unless she’s thirteen years old, has clearly had some surgery done to her undercarriage. It’s all very boring and I feel a bit nauseous so I put my hand on J’s muscular thigh to steady myself, which, he says later, is the best bit – fibber.

“You did really well,” says J when the whole excruciating experience is over. “No other girl I’ve brought here has ever been behind the screen with me.” God, he could have told me that before. Oh well, nothing ventured, nothing gained. It’ll be a great story to tell a few of my more enlightened friends.

Long after representatives of the emergency services – the various divisions of police, the SAMU and the sapeurs-pompiers – had concluded the traditional parade, I joined everyone else heading for a viewpoint on or near the Prom’ for the fireworks display. The entire Prom’ had been blocked off to all traffic, allowing us the mildy-anarchic thrill of wandering all over the place at will – entirely appropriate for Bastille Day.
By sheer luck I’d positioned myself in the throng just opposite where the boats bobbed on the water out in the bay, waiting for the signal to set off the display. You couldn’t see the Prom’, so densely packed were the people – all along the beach it was the same. Yet despite the almost-palpable electricity of anticipation the atmosphere was peaceful, unthreatening, as is only right for a family day out.
At 10 pm sharp the surrounding lights dimmed, the music roared out of the sound systems and the fireworks flamed, hissed and fizzed upwards, vivid against a sky of darkest velvety blue before falling, fading gradually, into the sea. And the display went on non-stop for 25 minutes lighting up the entire sky over the Bay of Angels with sparks, gorgeous shapes and jewel-like colours.
We were laughing, some were crying with happiness, and many were simply stunned. A young Russian couple in front of me cradled their infant son – a sturdy blond bearing an expression of stolid determination throughout, which only deserted him momentarily during a stirring rendition (is there another kind?) of The Ride of the Valkyrie to be replaced by clenched fists and the threat of tears (hm, so not a Wagnerian then).
At the end, the nice chap beside me said breathily: “I’ve lived in Nice for 25 years and never seen the fireworks display. It’s really … worth it … I had no idea it was so … It’s just …ahh!” Words failed him, just as they did – and do – me. Indescribable, magical: you’d have to be there. Next year?

Or a Million People Said Aaaahh…

1. Sydney – New Year’s Eve

We decided on a night at the opera with an exclusive ticket only view of the fireworks from Sydney opera house terrace. We shot some short film on our digital camera. What I love about these films, rather than seeing it on TV, is that you hear the audience appreciation…a million oooohs, aaaahhs and wows! For 20 minutes a million people watched in wonder and became children again.

Above the opera house its lights eerily illuminated the white bellies of seagulls, as they flew across the constellation ‘Orion’, who stood upside down in the southern hemisphere. They looked like ghostly white bats.

After 8 months on the road, we had splashed out on seats where the rich & privileged rattle their jewelry rather than clap. They don’t smile either. Some people are all the same, whether you are at a seedy rock gig or the opera! Some arrived late with a minute to spare before the start. Some walked out in the middle, letting doors slam whilst performers were singing their hearts out for us. We wondered what’s special for them, when its just nothing to walk out, talk through or arrive too late for the concert that cost AU$400 a ticket?

There was a high society wedding that day at the opera house. While the midnight fireworks enthralled a million people, a fight broke out at the nearby reception party! And a drunk man in a monkey suit was man handled outside.

2. A Back Garden in England – Nov 5th

One Nov 5th, a friend invited us to their fireworks party. They’d bought some great fireworks from a friend of a friend of a friend…they’d got them cheap because all the instructions were in Chinese, but were assured they’d be spectacular. And so they were… Especially the last display box…the grand finale… that almost killed us all.

Arfur Daley the purveyor of these fine fireworks, had to guess which way up to put the box…and then light the touch paper and run the too short length of the garden to join us all. The law of sod dictated that he chose wrong and put the box upside down. We watched as the underside of the box exploded and lifted off like Apollo 13. It then turned, faced us, and began to fire mutli coloured missiles at us. “INCOMING”.

My best friend Polly ran into the smoked filled kitchen, closely followed by me. Chris grabbed her 75 year old mother-in-law, picked her up and threw her into the kitchen, just as Polly slammed the door in her face. I opened the door and let her in. She was laughing uncontrollably and said it was the best night she’d had in years.

Outside, missiles were hitting and scorching the windows, as people ran for cover or tried to get inside the house. Thankfully the only injury was a burnt trouser leg, which gave us someone to mercilessly tease for the rest of the night – “Wasn’t even a flesh wound, what do you mean you need trauma debrief?”

When Polly was asked afterwards why she had slammed the door after making it to the safety of the kitchen. She said, “Well, me and Jules were all right that’s all I cared about…” Oh, what it is to be loved like that, even if it meant most of your friends, your husband, her husband and her mother-in-law were being burnt alive outside.

Then Polly put the kettle on and we all had sweet tea to alleviate the shock.

Fireworks are a centerpiece in the celebration of the fourth of July. All over the country, we naive

Fireworks are a centerpiece in the celebration of the fourth of July. All over the country, we naively enjoy these beautiful, dazzling illuminations, gallantly exploding in front of constellation-speckled backdrops, symbolizing our freedom from the British. What we often don’t think about while we take in the piro-spectacular, is the copious amount of toxic chemicals emitted into the environment.

An article published in the journal Environmental Science & Technology in 2009 found that, following a fireworks display, the amount of perchlorate in nearby bodies of water could increase by anywhere from 24 to 1,068 times the amount present before the fireworks, and that it takes 20 to 80 days for the chemical levels to subside.

Fortunately, researchers are developing a new generation of fireworks that can shine just as brightly without negatively impacting the environment or human health. In an article in Chemical & Engineering News, a publication of the American Chemical Society, Bethany Halford says these nitrogen-rich formulas use fewer color-producing chemicals, dramatically cutting down on the amount of heavy metals used and lowering their potentially toxic effects.

http://twitxr.com/fumordotnet/updates/222206/

Perusing my Facebook friends’ status updates on my phone, I noticed that my friend LaDi was planning to attend a fireworks display that evening. It was tradition for her and her friends to take the subway/elevated line from its terminus in the seedy Philadelphia suburb of Upper Darby into the city for the annual July 4 fireworks at Penn’s Landing.

For those of you with the good fortune to be unaware, Penn’s Landing is the city’s main waterfront attraction; the waterfront in this case is the Delaware River, which separates Pennsylvania from New Jersey. Many people think it got its name from William Penn, but I think they call it that because it sounds a hell of a lot better than “concrete walkway with little to no flair along the river,” which is exactly what it is.

Anyway, the city’s big “Welcome America!” celebration (a week-long series of events leading up to the July 4 holiday) was about to kick off, and organizers felt that the annual Penn’s Landing fireworks display was a logical move, despite it being a full week before Independence Day. Technically, on this date back in 1776, we were still England’s bitch.

Since the actual July 4, which is falling on a Saturday in 2009, is being marked with a massive concert featuring singer Sheryl Crow and its own post-concert fireworks display on the other side of town, there really was no better time for the beloved Delaware River show to be held.

This was my first time ever attending a fireworks display at this particular spot. And even though it was exactly 15 minutes long by LaDi’s watch, it was nevertheless impressive. Explosions of all sorts were fired off of a barge sitting in the middle of the river, their colors illuminating the blankness previously before us and rocking everyone’s eardrums with sonic booms. It was exactly like “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” only the fireworks display had more of a plot.

The picture, which was taken not too much longer after the show began, features, among other aspects, a very distinctive bridge in the background. This is the Ben Franklin Bridge (originally called the Delaware River Bridge) and was the first structure to connect Pennsylvania with New Jersey. It is a symbol of Philadelphia; its own George Washington or Golden Gate Bridge, if you will. The lights on the other side of the water you see make up part of Camden, New Jersey, which was consistently voted the most dangerous city in America. Some of its riverfront attractions are nice, but anywhere beyond that pretty much guarantees death or worse.

I like the guy’s t-shirt logo “I handle wildlife for a living. The operator of the barge came by for a flare. The young firefighters remarked they don’t carry road flares on their boat. The fireworks guy had forgotten the means to activate the fireworks display. He was wearing one of those shirts..”I handle explosives for a living. If I am running, keep up”. The young firefighters backed off their boat a bit from the barge.

It was nice to see a fireworks display every time new year comes and almost all kinds of them can be seen. But Fireworks display is not only seen during new year’s time but also when special occassions are celebrated. For some people it’s a sign of having new begginning and taking away all the bad spirits. Sometimes it can also be seen at the end of a wedding ceremony. But for me, the most unforgettable time of watching fireworks display is when you are watching it together with your special someone.
