This is a list of improvements that have been requested since months ago by lot (thousands) of customers around the world. Please check “I Called Canon” and previous posts to see testimonials and procedure.

Some improvements could be more difficult or hard to achieve due “possible” hardware limitations, but others are REALLY easy for Canon…

This Campaign has reached Canon departments in the past for the Manual Control request, and now is reaching them again for improvements that ARE mostly possible to this camera.

EVERY feature request, or most of them, can be implemented via Firmware Update, and that means: NO big costs to Canon at all, “refreshing” this camera and keeping big sales and profit on an already designed and already in-production model (especially important when competition arrives) is a big deal, isn’t it?

Doing so would reflect in more sales, but also more loyalty to Canon, more credibility, then more long-term profit for the company.

LIST of FEATURES REQUEST

• FIX “at least” the current non standard 30.00 fps to the standard 29.97 fps as in 7D
• Add these frame rates as in 7D: 29.97 / 25 / 23.976 fps (STANDARD 30,25 and 24p)
• Add 720p mode at 29.97 fps. It will allow LONGER video recording time before reaching the 4GB file size limit
• Improve AF contrast detection algorithm and/or ADD Focusing Aids (like Magic Lantern has done, and proven it is completely possible and extremelly useful). This is REALLY important and useful for video mode.
• Add “Digital Zoom” and “Crop Sensor Video Mode” (“Sensor Windowing” recording function) allowing to record native 1920×1080 sensor’s area wich extremelly minimizes “jello” effect and aliasing issues/arctifacts. This is very possible in a similar way that Zoom level x5 and x10 works to help manual focus
• Add 720p mode at 59.94 fps if hardware possible
• Add File Spanning Function (a new file is created when 4GB is reached without stop recording)
• Allow Audio Manual Gain when recording video (so easy to fix…)
• Add EDIT option in playback mode, allowing Cut and Save part of recorded video clip (it’s available on P&S cameras!)
• Allow more frames in Bracketing mode (so easy fix…)
• Add/Fix Auto ISO in Manual mode (for still photography) with selectable limits
• FIX Dropped Frames BUG that happens when changing Aperture AND sometimes in normal situations without changing anything
• FIX exposure shift / flashing that often happens when zooming
• Add function to “REMAP” HOT and STUCK pixels. This is VERY important, and will save Canon Tech Support LOT of money and time. It’s an essential feature (we still don’t understand why it wasn’t already implemented)
• Add Remote Start/Stop video recording using cable release (if hardware possible)

About the importance of STANDARD frame rates:

Until now the 5D Mark II has not even a single frame rate compatible with any other video camera made by Canon, 7D included !! That’s why we request “AT LEAST” the standard 29.97 fps.

But of course, LOT more improvements can be implemented via Firmware Update to this camera, wich has HUGE potential inside not yet exploited.

We really hope that Canon is now aware of what this unique camera has started: a revolution in DSLRs, and the huge importance it has for professionals who already adopted it (along with lot of expensive full frame lenses) for serious videography and filmmaking works.

AGC disabled firmware

Thanks to the hard work of a member who got tired of waiting for Canon responses and actions, there is some progress in the process of disabling firmware locked functions. This is just the beginning.

The demand for this Firmware Update is HUGE; what is Canon thinking in ignoring it?

Is Canon waiting for Nikon to make an announcement, and then follow them…?

Canon showing themselves as a face-less company (regarding to this matter), remaining in complete silence without any CLEAR word, but telling to be “listening to customers”… what kind of behaviour of a respectable company is that?

They should show more respect to their customers, who invested thousands of dollars in equipment over the years and decades.

Canon loose not giving even an answer to what thousands of customers have requested to them.

Customers are not married with a company, and attitudes like this only helps to drop loyalty and credibility.

Japanese companies SHOULD listen more, watch more, and take MORE care of customer’s feedback and requests.

Arrogance can be a very big mistake.

New Firmware of s60 won’t allow you to install any unsigned application/games or anything with expired certificates. Fortunately, some genius folks found a way to hack the security. Nokia with hundreds employee definitely couldn’t stand being owned by one awesome hacker guy, so they released new firmware with even tougher security system. Good news, new firmware usually comes with good update and new features for your mobile phone. But bad news is,new firmware cannot be hacked (yet) using the previous method. It’s been 4 months since the release of unhackable firmware and it seems they (hacker) haven’t found any way to pass through the security validation. But don’t let the bad news worry you, you can always sign your own application, or any unsigned application, using certificate exclusive to your Mobile Phone IMEI. Are you using N82, N81, N85, N78, N79 or N95 with unhackable firmware and thus you can’t install hacked NGAGE releases? the link below will refer you to a tutorial showing special way of signing .NGAGE games. Play gameboy advance, gameboy color, SNES and NES rom at your mobile phone. Download the emulator from the link below. I LOVE this a lot. When i showed this to my friends, they were like ‘wtf’. I’ve just completed final fantasy tactics advance on 38 hours of playing . Tekken Advance looks great too, although the control is difficult and fps rate is low. I agree that this is one of the best invention for mobile gaming!. Play GBA, GBC, NES, SNES (emulators) on mobile!

We used to know that NGAGE games can only be played using NGAGE phone (nokia). But, with some tricks and cheats, its possible to play NGAGE games on most of s60 devices. We remember the halcyon days of firmware 1.00 for the PSP. It was wide open to run any code you wanted. Once the handheld game console was released outside Japan, Sony locked it down and began an arms race to prevent any sort of homebrew usage of the device. Nearly four years later and we’re at firmware 5.00. The hackers are on top of their game though. It’s only been a couple days since the official release and a custom firmware has already been published. Sony has traditionally supported development on their home consoles and we hope they’ll take that approach on their next portable instead of this stupid back and forth.

Yo llegué a Chilehardware con la intención de aprender de hardware para poder overclockar, flashear y meterle mano hasta donde se pueda, bueno ahora sigo con la misma, pero en cámaras, específicamente las Canon PowerShot y en la siguiente guía/tutorial te explicaré -a prueba de diputados- como revitalizar tu cámara con funciones entretenidas y útiles -y otras no tanto-.
