oh, how i despise first posts. they’re usually introductory (unless someone just dives right into their musings about the sandwich they ate for lunch that day) and, by default, awkward. so what’s a girl to do when she’s trying to avoid the awkward, boring introductory post? if she were the artsy, creative type, she’d probably write about herself in the third person (her name is Katee, a 22-year-old junior in college, and doesn’t know what she wants to do when she grows up). maybe she’d make a list of contradictory words to describe herself (moody, bossy, bold, strong, sensitive, loyal, friendly, withdrawn, analytical, logical, nerdy, lazy, hard-working, smart, funny, pretty, chubby, feminist, self-conscious). maybe she’d tell you the short version of her life story in a single sentence (she has never bent to anyone’s will and doesn’t plan on ever doing so) and expect you to understand what the hell that’s suppose to mean.

but no, i guess i won’t do any of that. i’ll just let you read the blog and maybe you can figure her out for yourself. besides, people who do that kind of stuff are totally pretentious anyway.

So, this is my first blog. But it’s late, I ache and it’s time for bed. Though I must say – listening to Play That Funky Music is inducing foot tapping rather than the Zzzzs. Hey hum. Will start with this good and proper tomorrow.

The first post of every blog is something damned to be seen only by the author herself/himself. So I am welcoming myself to this brand new blog. I wish myself happy time writing, interacting and doing everything a blogger is supposed to do.

Welcome to Hof Haus!  I will write about our family’s journey in building a new home.  It is being built on 20 beautiful acres that has a pond, woods and open fields.

Isn’t it amazing!  I will get more pics of the foundation tomorrow.  We have had the hole dug for the past week and a half but because of all the rain we’ve had, we haven’t been able to pour the footers.

Alright Girls, … this is it. Studying in california starts in about a month or so. We have no place to live yet. We have booked no courses or nothing. Its gonna be lots of fun i guess. May we let the good times roll.

A few things about what this is for. It’s not supposed to be an ad, or a promotional tool as such. We’ve got our website, Facebook and Twitter for that. It’s more just a place for me (Rob) and the rest of the band to burble on about stuff that’s interesting to us. The chances of it being interesting to you are, if I’m honest, slim. But you never know.

Anyway, I’ll update this pretty regularly, I imagine. Sorry about that.

So I started this blog as a sort of personal project to post the various things I’m interested in and hopefully eventually post my progress on various projects and developments.  At present the blog has no particular focus other than it’s about me and the things that I do. I’m hoping that over time i’ll gain a sort of focus on what I want to write here and hopefully have some discussion on a few things im interested in.

So I guess for now all i can say is, i’ll be back!

When I’m worried and thinking too hard, I’m always short of words. I have problem giving sentences to my thoughts. And this blog is just a collection of my thoughts, an attempt to channel the unstoppable voices in my mind so that I can organize them and filter out the useful ones from the rest.  I must warn the visitors, most of the times, the posts would not make any sense to you. I am starting this blog to untangle my thoughts and clear my mind.

Since this is my first entry, I thought I better introduce myself.

I’m Joseph and I live near London in glorious (Wet, Sunny, Windy, Hail Stoney, Generally Damp) England.

My mother calls me a young Victor Meldrew because I am just a tad cynical and act like a 60 year old man most of the time.

I’m also a hip youngster, if you can believe it. I spend the majority of my time on the internet, especially on Twitter and YouTube

I’m going to use this blog to share awesome things I find on the internet like this, my opinions on recent news articles, BOOKS and things I do in the real life.

Hello friends! My love for and never-ending quest for things in the world which have been “done right” has been going on informally for some time. But starting now I’ve decided to chronicle my search for excellent recipes, sweet tunes, and anything else I think y’all might enjoy.

As much as I love trying to find the good things in the world, we all know that that life isn’t always peaches n’ cream. It’s just as important to get the word out about injustices going on in the world, whether they be local or global. So, from time to time I intend to write about things that (in my humble opinion) are…well, done wrong.

Any and all feedback is welcome. Questions, comments, suggestions for future topics…I’m all ears.

I'm new to the whole 'blogging' thing!

Hello people, My name is Alex Simpson. Here’s me starting a new blog for you people to grab an interesting insight to my life. Well, Only the interesting parts. You are going to have to bear with my while I learn the ins and outs of this complex blogging contraption; WordPress. So, Don’t go anywhere. This is the first time I have ever attempted at a blog; I haven’t really even got the time to be maintaining a blog but… Who gives a damn? I know I don’t. Coursework can wait. I have more important things to do, such as: Watch anime; Listen to more obscure, completely NON-mainstream music (Mostly Japanese); Write for my new blog. You get the idea.

Oh, Oh, Don’t you just love my blog banner? It took me a while to make and I made it myself! I’m so proud of my awesome image editing skills, Haha! Anyway, On to explaining why I’m here.

I’ll be blogging about the general stuff; Japanese things, Anime, Manga, Music. Also some off topic things such as: Christmas; Minor happenings in my life and other web activity that I participate in, mainly to do with anime. That should do for my first ever blog post and I’d like to leave you with one of the most unrelevant but my favourite quote from my favourite anime ever:

I have started a blog. I will post things here that are interesting to me and consequences be damned. Off the top of my head, some things that I find interesting and that might be covered in future entries include:

So I decided to start blogging, mainly because I’ve seen so many people doing it and it looks like a lot of fun.

I just hope I’ll be able to find enough time to be able to actually make this thing worthwhile, I’ll have to make a big effort.

Basically this place soon will be filled (cross your fingers..) with all sorts – opinions, pictures, stories, funny stuff .. all sorts.

Sometimes I wonder if I have a point, perspective, opinion, story, or whatever else the thesaurus can come up with.

The truth is that I do have a point, a perspective, multiple opinions and loads of stories to share. This is my little place in the world to share it.

Why Canadian Cacophony?

1. I am Canadian, ’nuff said, eh.

2. Dictionary.com states that cacophony means:

cacophony – noun, plural -nies. 

1. harsh discordance of sound; dissonance: a cacophony of hoots, cackles, and wails.

2. a discordant and meaningless mixture of sounds: the cacophony produced by city traffic at midday. 

3. Music. frequent use of discords of a harshness and relationship difficult to understand.

I would concur that my meaning of cacophony would relate to #2. My life is a mixture of sounds and silences, sharp and flat notes, etcetera with the musical imaging.

Well I’m an otaku, I’ve been one for years. Besides it being extremely fun, it helps me cope with shit since I’m a little bitch. I’ll either talk about my life or otaku related shit, the latter being the more prominent topic of the two.

A new blog, eh? Again? Well this one’s staying. This one’s primarily for me, but you’re welcome to come along on the journey with me, if you so wish.

So, who am I? I am msclarepear. This blog has been set up so that I have a place to track my health and fitness journey. It complements my channel on YouTube, which can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/user/msclarepear .

Here, I’ll be logging my daily food intake, calorie intake and what exercise I do each day. At the time of writing, I weight 222lbs, which for a 26 year-old woman measuring 5 foot 4 inches, this is classed as ‘clinically obese’ and gives me a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 38.1!!!!! You can check your own Body Mass Index by using the BMI Calculator here: http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/

BMI Categories:

• Underweight = <18.5
• Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
• Overweight = 25-29.9
• Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

As you can see, I fall into the ‘Obesity’ category. If I’m serious about my health and if I care for myself at all, I need to bring down my BMI to within the ‘Normal weight’ / ‘healthy’ range. My initial target weight is 140 lbs. This would give me a healthy BMI of 24.0. This is where I want to be, which means a required loss of 82lbs!!!!!!!!!! My dream weight is 112lbs… but first, let’s get this party started and get the scales moving in the right direction, shall we?

How Do I Intend to Achieve My Goals?

Wrong question. How WILL I achieve my goals. This is non-negotiable. I’ve put this off for far too long and now is the time for action, not procrastination!

Daily Calorie Allowance: 1400

Daily Water Intake: Minimum 2 litres

Daily Exercise: Minimum 30 minutes high/low-impact

To be fair, the science behind weightloss is pretty straightforward:

CALORIES CONSUMED < CALORIES EXPENDED = WEIGHT LOSS

You need to consume 500 calories per day less (or burn 500 calories through exercise), each day for a week in order to lose 1lb of fat. Simples. Well OK, it’s easy on paper, maybe less straightforward to achieve on a daily basis. But all that’s about to change and this is the place I’ll be logging those calories consumed and those calories expended, along with my current weight.

That’s a very good question? Who am I? Who is the face behind the computer? Well… I’m not one to kiss and tell. The more or a biography I give you, the more assumptions you will make of myself and my character. And I don’t like people who automatically assume they have me figured out. It’s no fun that way, is it?

  Well, that being said, here is what I am willing to inform you of:  10 simple things about me.

1. I love stormy weather. It inspires me.

2.  I am currently debating whether I should major in Art History or just get a BFA in Photography.

3. I devour books.

4. I make lists. Constantly. To-Do lists. To-Read lists. To-Listen-To lists. To-Watch Lists.To-Study-For lists. I make them for everything. It helps me accomplish my goals and go about a somewhat orderly existence.

5. Music plays a huge part in my life. It is my muse, my inspiration.. my everything. I can’t breathe without it. I don’t exist without music. My taste varies, of course, but I am not one of those people who troll the Top-40 looking for music. I very rarely ever like music that is “popular”. I prefer the Underground/Unknown artists, Classic Rock, and Classical composers.  

6. I am quite cynical and self-depricating.

7. While most people find Winter gloomy, it is actually my favorite season. It is wonderous and magical to me.

8. My biggest fear is failure. I like to succeed in everything I do. I used to the complete opposite. I used to be a bum who didn’t care about anything. Now I care so much that I don’t settle for anything less than my absolute best. I give everything worthwhile to me, my all.

9. Nothing excites me more than traveling. I hardly get to travel, but when I do, it thrills me to no end. And I can ramble on about my adventures for months on end, over-enthusiasm for every detail of the trip still intact.

10. I prefer quiet Friday nights. My perfect Friday nights (which are exceedingly rare, nowdays) consist of a good DVD, Chinese Food,  a bottle of Orange Soda, and a pint of Ice Cream. I’m not one of those people who goes out clubbing and dancing with their friends on weekends. It’s just not my style.

And the rest? That you’ll have to figure out for yourself.

I’m not very good with blogs.  I used to think I was, but something changed along the way.

Nowadays I’m stuck.  It’s hard to finish what I start.  Piles and piles of draft entries remain in my several social networking accounts and my “real” blogs – good ideas overtaken by the lack of ambition, the absence of will, and the fear of condescension.  Self-censorship is the norm, and so is the conscious effort to maintain a “style”.  Which is actually kinda funny, actually, seeing as I have yet to amass the number of entries that reveal how I see the world, and writing about it in general.  But enough of that.  There’s obviously a problem, and this blog’s going to fix that.

For the first time in a long while, I’m going to put out ideas for the entire intarwebs to see, ponder, and insult.  And previous motivations for blogging aren’t going to be much appreciated as before.  Comments are nice to have, but not necessary at this stage.  Commitment to the blog is important; no one  reads a blog that’s seldom updated (even in this age of RSS feeds and Digging).  And most importantly, my writing must be free of any fettering, whether of my or other’s doing.

* Palingenesis – probably the most exciting word in this entry, it’s Greek for “rebirth”.  I wonder if the “Palin” part will become important in the next few years – and this is assuming Sarah Palin actually recovers from that debacle of an American election.  (Which won’t happen, but maybe the conservative wingnuts will try to spin it anyway – though I doubt they’d catch on to a word most likely to be used by the intellectuals they despise.)
