Albam and Barbour have got some new style’s for this winter if you’re after a nice classy outer garment.

Albam Hunting Cagoule. Very similar to the Albam Fisherman’s Cagoule,  which I got for Christmas last year, but heavier in fabric. Not as stylish as the Fisherman’s but still nice and a good one for the autumn/winter season. Barbour have a nice new jaiket out they call Dunelm. Looks very similar to the Durham, which I also own, but has more pockets and looks a heavier waxed cotton. It looks like a good rain jacket and i’ll consider it once the Durham has given up on me. Now I’m not really a parka wearer, but I like Volcom and they have normally have some nice little details on their garments. The Discovery Parka, quite plain in black, but probably has some nice features and those Volcom angled pockets are always distinguishing.

You could do a lot worse than to mack one of these this winter.

This lake at Antisrabe in Madagascar is in the crater of a disused volcano.  My friends walked around the lake in a clockwise direction, but because of the waterlogged grassy footpath I chose not to join them and instead walked anti-clockwise to meet them.  It meant that I got to see the stunning sunset and to watch the fishermen as they made their way to shore at the end of the day.

Dave Lamoureux is part of a small subset of kayak fisherman, and his most recent catch, a 157-pound bluefin tuna, is one of the sports greatest recorded feats.

Luke 5:1-11 and Matthew 9:9-13

In Luke 5:1-11 Jesus calls Simon Peter, James and John who were fishermen.

8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!” 9 For he and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish that they had taken; 10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people.” 11 When they had brought their boats to shore, they left everything and followed him.

In Matthew 9:9-13 Jesus calls Matthew who was a tax collector.

11 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” 12 But when he heard this, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.”

Still pondering on this. If Christians strive to be more like Jesus then perhaps we should desire mercy and not sacrifice.

If you’ve been following Test Pressing for a while then you would know we are massive fans of Wally Badarou – from his keyboards on many classic Compass Point recordings (from Grace Jones to Joe Cocker) through to his wonderful solo albums on Island Records. So, it’s been a while, but Badarou has returned from a brief hiatus (well a long one), with a new release ‘Fisherman’.

In Wally’s words, “Here is ‘Fisherman’, a 15 minute imaginary conversation between an african fisherman and the surrounding elements. What started as a tutorial test on a newly acquired synth, landed in this Fela Kuti meets Booker-T meets Herbie Hancock type of marathon; this clearly is ‘vintage’, entirely auto-produced as usual, with my trusty analog synths and drum-machines of the times past.”

The releases will be split into different parts for initial release before being collated into a ‘physical collector sets’. His reasons for doing this are explained thus, “I want each piece to be given proper attention. With conventional album releases, only 2 or 3 so-called ’singles’ get focused on, most of the time; I have always felt for those many pieces that the industry deemed simple ‘album tracks’: there is never such thing for a genuine artist. By releasing the pieces in 3 distinct genres alternately, I hope I can depict best 3 worlds that still shape my life in music: classical, tropical and urban. The resulting trilogy – that “The Dachstein Angels”, “Hi-Life” and “Chief Inspector” respectively pioneered for example – will not be immune from cross-influences. Yet, I am longing to offer 3 views on a common subject, 3 different sets of experiences, fully identifiable in their style and their fabric.”
