Welcome to the first edition of…Tunetastic Tuesday!!! [and applause and cheering ensued]. This is essentially the same thing as the “iPod Suggestions” and “Ear Candy” sections…but I changed the name and the format. Enjoy the tunes…and the mix at the end!

#1. “Laser Canon Deth Sentence” by Dethklok off of Dethalbum II. Now, you are probably thinking one of two things. Either a.) Who the hell is Dethklok? or b.) Why do you have a band from an animated cartoon series on Adult Swim on your blog? Now, these are both legitimate questions. Dethklok is, in fact, a real band [now] and they produce awesome music. I downloaded Dethalbum II and practically pooped my pants because it was so good. It doesn’t sound like clips/scenes from the show anymore, it sounds like actual music.

#2. “Don’t Bore Us, Get To The Chorus” by Emery off of I’m Only A Man. I love Emery. There, I said it. This song is really great, for one reason and one reason only: the song is about wanting to do someone. That is the whole premise of the song. Doing it, with someone that you just met. It isn’t creepy at all…its sexy.

#3. “Days Like Masquerades” by The Academy Is… off of Lost In Pacific Time. LIPT is the EP that The Academy Is… released for the AP Tour Fall Ball. I’m not going to lie…the EP is really good. I mean, I was already a fan of their music, but I did not like Santi that much. LIPT is just a pretty solid 5-track album.

#4. “The Few That Remain” by Set Your Goals off of This Will Be The Death Of Us. I love Set Your Goals…I did not however, love their new album [This Will Be The Death Of Us] until I heard this song. This song features the wonderfully talented [and adorable] Haley Williams, of Paramore. This song is just a really good song.

#5. “(I Used To Make Out With) Medusa” by Bring Me The Horizon off of Count Your Blessings. I’m going to say this now…there is a chance…a very large chance…that you’re not going to like this song or this band. They are very hardcore…very hardcore. This is one my favorite songs by them. I enjoy their music by the way, just in case you were wondering.

#6. “Perfectionist” by Asher Roth off of Asleep On The Bread Aisle. I figured that since this year’s freshman class doesn’t quite remember how popularly awesome “I Love College” was, I would reacquaint the world with Asher Roth. Yes, his album is still wonderful. Yes, he still loves college. And yes, he is quite the perfectionist. This song is such a great little tune, I enjoy it a lot.

#7. “Now That We’re Done” by Metro Station off of their self-titled debut album Metro Station. I heard this song once and went “AHHHH! I love this song now!” and now I listen to it all the time…because I rock? Yes, because I rock. [For those of you who didn't know, the lead singer of Metro Station is the brother of Miley Cyrus...how awesome is that?]

#8. “Fix You” by Coldplay off of X&Y. This album, is probably the best album by Coldplay. This song seriously makes me weep when I hear it…ahhh, I’m tearing up just hearing the song in my head now.

I hope you guys like the songs. To hear them all…click the link right below this sentence.

I know it has been awhile since I last wrote anything and there is a reason for that. Recently I have moved back home with my parents and I am finishing up my classes online and also starting seminary classes at the same time. This transition was a lot harder than I anticipated. First off the I underestimated just how bad the economy is and I am still seeking a job to pay for my classes. The other reason is I have been in a spiritual dead season in my life since I have come home.I know what you’re probably thinking, “Your home with family, whats up?” and to that all I can say is I took being on Liberty mountain for granted and when I got out in to the real world and out of the Liberty bubble I didn’t keep up my end of the relationship with God and figured that he would just “pick up the slack” so-to-speak while I tried to find a job and get things shaped up but thats not how it works.

The reason I posted the video was because it makes me think off my relationship with God; I come to Him broken and he fixes up the pieces. No matter what are past is or what are future holds one thing is always constant, God! God is always there no matter what but we must not also take Him for granted. We need God…we need communication with Him just like we need the air to breathe. Apart from Him we are nothing and we must realize this. I know it might seem this post is not going anywhere but I just wanted to encourage people by sharing what I have been going through in my personal walk. I recently decided to start back up that conversation with God and that is when he starts picking up the pieces.

“You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.” Psalm 63:1 (TNIV)

When you try your best but you don’t succeed.
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can’t sleep.
Stuck in reverse.

And the tears come streaming down your face.
When you lose something you can’t replace.
When you love someone but it goes to waste.
Could it be worse?

Ibland. And then came Coldplay.

Extra sorgsna Coldplaybitar

Fix you.

The Scientist.

Death and all his friends. Viva la Vida var fint – men definitivt deras sämsta album. Denna stack ut i mina öron.

Also schon länger…

“This is the last train…go go go”… absolut irrsinnige Situationen rund um die Underground-Stations. Unglaublich!

Well, I went to Coldplay last night.. and it was amazing! Wembley is the place to be for watching bands. We arrived at about 5:00pm and were there for a good 6 hours or so. I have to admit I didn’t feel bored once! They timed it perfectly with the gaps in between the artists being short. We had three support bands / artists. First up was White Lies.. I’d never really heard of them but I thought I’d go in with an open mind. And they were superb! Brilliant as a live band and they really built up the atmosphere in the stadium at the beginning. Then came Girls Aloud. -cue screams-. They were great, like usual. I’ve been a Girls Aloud fan for years and knew all the words and really got into the swing of things. The stadium was rocking at this point, really starting to fill up despite it being a couple of hours until Coldplay were on. Then, they hit the lights. It became dark and that’s when the fancy disco lights and things came out for show. -Enter JayZ-. Got to admit, he wasn’t that bad. Rap is not everyone’s thing but there clearly was a few JayZ fans out last night, as a lot of people were standing up and getting excited. After he’d finished his set there was a short break while we waited for Coldplay. When they came on the stadium erupted with cheers and they proved good entertainment for the next hour and 45min, or so. They played a variety of different songs, including crowd favorites like ‘Fix You’, and ‘Viva La Vida’. They even did a cover of Michael Jackson’s, ‘Billie Jean’, which was fantastic. Then finished with some pretty good fireworks. It was, all in all, amazing. A great night. I think I’ll be going to more concerts and things in future now.

I went to Teignmouth on Friday.

The first band on were called The Quails, another local band, they were quite good, but not in any danger of outshining the headliners. You can usually get some idea what a band will sound like from what they look like, but they were a bit confusing, the singer looked like he belonged in We Are Scientists while one of the other guitarists looked like a Metallica tribute band member. There was at least one too many guitarists, the singer and Mr. Metallica Tribute seemed to be playing exactly the same thing the whole time, which annoyed me, but overall I might get round to listening to more of them.

Then there was Cosmo Jarvis. I instantly liked him based just on his name. His music wasn’t bad either, with songs with titles like Gay Pirates, you know he’s not taking himself too seriously. I would say he sounds like a cross between Jamie T and Lee Evans. Opener She’s Got You was probably his best song, it started with a Ukelele and finished with a Recorder. I wasn’t optimistic when he later announced “This song’s called Jesus”, but it turned out not to be too bad, he was singing to a friend who’s “not Jesus, but you’re saving me”.

Muse were obviously awesome.

I wrote before that I would have liked to hear lots of the new album. We got 5 songs from The Resistance: Uprising and United States of Eurasia which had been heard in full already, then there was Resistance, Undisclosed Desires and Unnatural Selection, of which I’d only heard 30-second samples. They also played a “jazzy” piano version of Cave (“Oh, those were the days.”)

Muse have a lot of songs starting with the letter ‘U’.

I think they got the balance between new and old stuff pretty much perfect.

I said before that I would have liked them to play all of the new album, but when it came to it, it was better that they didn’t. For me, the best type of music by any band is a song that a large crowd can sing along to, a couple of good examples of the sort of great moments I mean would be Knights of Cydonia on the HAARP DVD and Coldplay’s Fix You on LeftRightLeftRightLeft. So while I would love to see more of the new stuff live, it would be much better to know the songs beforehand.

Resistance and Undisclosed Desires sounded great, and I think the samples gave a good idea of what the songs would sound like. The lyrics to Resistance are clearly influenced by George Orwell’s 1984, while Undisclosed Desires is another step away from the Muse of the past, beyond Supermassive Black Hole and Map of the Problematique.

EDIT: How could I forget to mention Matt’s Keytarcaster used for Undisclosed Desires?

I like the “I Want The Truth” moments in Unnatural Selection, and there’s an epic riff going on that, from videos on YouTube, sounds a bit like the New Born guitar riff, but at the gig itself I was standing too close to tell what it really sounded like, it was just a lot of noise.

I was also reminded that I actually like going to gigs by myself. I’ve seen Muse and Red Hot Chili Peppers twice, once each with other people and once by myself. When you go with other people you have to find the best place to stand to please everyone, I’m pretty tall so not being able to see isn’t usually a problem (although at this gig I was briefly stuck with my nose about 2 inches from the back of someone’s head who was only slightly shorter than me), while some people don’t want to be in the middle of a packed crowd jumping up and down (I don’t jump around much myself, but it doesn’t bother me being in the middle of other people doing it). I’ve also seen Blackbud 3 times, twice with other people and once by myself, and in this case, being a relatively unknown band, I was unsure whether the people I’d taken along were enjoying it.

In short, it was a great day and I can’t wait til next Monday (hopefully CD WOW! will post my CD+DVD edition in advance so it arrives on the day).

I would have written this on Saturday but it turned out to be a busy weekend. After helping my granddad move house on Saturday morning, I went to see some friends in Devizes. Then Sunday (I wouldn’t have written this on Sunday anyway, but) we didn’t have much spare time between our own church Bible Study and Worship Service and a Baptism Service at Zion in Trowbridge, after which we were invited to tea at the pastor Stuart Burgess‘ (also Head of Mechanical Engineering at Bristol University – they rejected my application to study there, but I don’t hold it against him despite the fact I ended up getting the grades they wanted. I went to Bath instead, who actually wanted higher grades than Bristol, so there :-p) house, then from there we went straight back to our own Evening Service.

We were reminded that Jesus didn’t give the people what they want, in fact they hated him so much they killed him. Instead he gave them what they need.

By James Grimes

Stars: *|*|*|*|

Summary: Though not as awesome as it could have been, Coldplay’s third hit boasts great Electronic Rock paired with intelligent, sometimes cryptic themes.

Art Assessment: Slick and strange.

Review: After their mostly acoustic and piano led success ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head’, rising British Alternative Rock band Coldplay released a more electronic and Kraftwerk inspired album, ‘X & Y’. Instead of going into a whole lot in this introduction, let’s dive in.

‘Square One’: This a good opener for the album, introducing the band’s new direction. The theme of the song is rather mournful, referring to someone who finds themselves either unable to move forward into their dreams or under the impression that they are thusly stuck.

‘What If’: A more quiet, romantic song that hearkens back to the previous ‘A Rush Of Blood’ success ‘The Scientist’. The protagonist of the song wants to connect with the one he loves, or else his world would essentially fall apart.

‘White Shadows’: Jumping back into the electronic fray, this one tells the story of the protagonist losing innocence and becoming part of The System. What he desires now is take the people who he loves out of the emptiness of this controlled life. Or at least, that’s my interpretation of the lyrics.

‘Fix You’: A simple, romantic song, beginning with organs and ascending to become an anthem. It’s beautiful, moving, hopeful, and mournful all at once.

‘Talk’: This track has the most obvious Kraftwerk influence. Coldplay borrows the riff from ‘Computer Love’, one of their more famous songs, and adjusts it for clever use here. This song is about the break up of communication, perhaps between the general population of the human race. The idea being that, if we achieve true dialog, we can realize what we were meant for, and the inherent creativity and God-given glory of the human race can be restored. It’s a compelling, catchy, mysterious song. One of my favorites of all their work.

‘X & Y’: This one strikes at the same themes expressed by the previous two themes, as kind of a joint sequel. This one makes me think of long car rides, falling asleep as you drive past snow covered trees and lamp posts, as everything blurs together…

‘Speed of Sound’: Both lyrically and musically, this is the closest we’ve gotten to a sequel to the hit song ‘Clocks’, off their previous album. This one refers to the wonder of life, though in a very intriguing, intentionally cryptic way. It’s supposed to draw you in. It succeeds marvelously.

‘A Message’: Suddenly we are back in the acoustic wonderland of ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head’, and though that’s not unwelcome, it feels kind of out of place. Thankfully, though, the electronic backup soon returns about a third of the way into the song. Unfortunately, this is where the album feels repetitive, in a bad way. It’s another straightforward love song, yet again about communication.

‘Low’: A great tune, with more of the Kraftwerk feel that I personally enjoy, but again the lyrics refer to the same basic themes. Only this time, there’s more emphasis on letting go of perfectionism and embracing the beauty of the world’s design as it is, as a key to hope.

‘The Hardest Part’: This one sounds a bit more bubbly and happy than the previous few tracks, so it helps defuse the greatest threat to an album’s integrity: boredom. This song is absolutely key to killing that problem in ‘X & Y’. This one is happier in tune, yes, but it still deals with the introspective acknowledgments of the songwriter, and never strays too far from the overall themes.

‘Swallowed In The Sea’: If you really pay attention to the lyrics, this is one of the strongest songs on the album. Two people encounter loss of hope in their relationship, and this is a poetic plea for their love to be restored.

‘Twisted Logic’: This song is amazing. It’s my personal favorite of this release. Unlike the rest of the songs, it’s dark and somewhat angry, while remaining cryptic, and you just get caught up in it. It’s got huge scope, in contrast to the personal nature of much of the rest of the album. It’s a great touch, and I think a great teaser for the next album, ‘Viva La Vida’, which shares its thematic darkness.

‘Til Kingdom Come’: This hidden track makes a tearful goodbye, not really to the album, but to the person who was supposed to sing it… Johnny Cash. This was going to be one of his last songs, but he passed away before he could perform it with Chris Martin, Coldplay’s lead singer. It’s beautiful, elegant, and very strong and memorable.

So now that it’s all said and done, what do I think of ‘X & Y’ on its own merits? Well… very good, but not as strong as it could have been. It teeters on the edge of becoming boring, especially near the end. Nevertheless, armed with rich lyrics and strong rhythms, it is an excellent release and a must-have for fans of electronic and Alternative Rock.

I would like to dedicate these videos and songs to my dear friend. This is the least I could do for you. Our commitments have set us to part. Just know that I’m here for you. I have no better words to say. May these songs heal your pain as they healed mine…

My best friend has a family tradition: her grandmother leaves the lights on for last person who come

My best friend has a family tradition: her grandmother leaves the lights on for last person who comes home. Whenever her father was out late at night, there was always a light on in the living room to let him know he was welcomed safely back. He went on to leave the lights on for us when we were out. Now, it’s my turn to leave them on for my family to keep them safe and let them know that someone cares.

All this talk of lights and family, and our little acts of love fit so beautifully with a movie I recently saw called “Young at Heart” (I would definitely recommend it) about a show choir made up of retired folks.

I hope I can show my family I’m watching out for them in little ways like leaving the light on. Now, with technology advancement, I can leave the light on without having to pay for electricity. I plan on making an investment very soon in these lights for my front porch:

Not having to pay for electricity, never having to change a light bulb, and never forgetting to leave on the light.

“Lights will guide you home
And ignite to fix your bones
And I will try to fix you.” – Coldplay

I don’t have too much inspiration today. It feels like a “blah” day. Maybe because I woke up with hi

I don’t have too much inspiration today. It feels like a “blah” day. Maybe because I woke up with high expectations for something and then it just didn’t work out. That’s been a theme for my job search these days- just not working out.

I’ve been holding back writing about a certain Coldplay song because it seems pretty obvious and predictable with this journal. I was going to boycott it all together but due to lack of inspiration I thought I would give it a second chance.

Speaking of second chances- I think we all want second chances- but how hard is it for us to give people second chances?

I didn’t do anything wrong (I think) but I kind of want God to give me a second chance. Yes, I’ve made some unwise choices financially that I would not like to speak of- but I would like a chance to fix those. I have made unwise choices with the ways in which I treat my friends but I would like a second chance with that.

Right now, the oh-so-horrible-inhuman-dog-hater Michael Vick is being signed to play for the Philadelphia Eagles. The controversy is over allowing him another chance of playing football after spending two years in prison for dog-fighting. We are so quick to expel him from life, but again- doesn’t everyone get a second chance?

(I’m still debating on using that Coldplay song…)

Anyways I think I am just waiting for my second chance, my second life, my new season. This verse in Romans spoke more than volumes to me this morning.

8 26-28 Meanwhile the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter, he does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.

Last night in church we sang a song that said “You work all things out for my good.” He does. We just don’t know what our “good” is.

Tim brought up a Tim McGraw song that says, “Sometimes unanswered prayers are the greatest gift from God.” We know what we want- but its hard when we don’t get it. We think “Wow God isn’t working anything for my good right now.” I’ve been struggling with this a lot lately. Knowing if what I want is ultimately right for me and since God isn’t giving it to me, well then what is He doing?

But again- it isn’t about us. Tim spoke about how our lives are not our own. Like the verse that talks about those who love their life will lose it and those who hate their earthly lives will gain eternity. I love life, don’t get me wrong. But I do have to deny myself and let God dictate my life. It also said in some previous verses in Romans that “those who think they can do it on their own end up obsessed with measuring their own moral muscle but never get around to exercising it in real life. Those who trust God’s action in them find that God’s spirit is in them- living and breathing God! Obsession with self in these matters is a dead end; attention to god leads us out into the open, into a spacious, free life. Focusing on self is the opposite of focusing on God. Anyone completely absorbed in self ignores God, ends up thinking more about self than God. That person ignores who God is and what he is doing. And God isn’t pleased at being ignored.” (v 8:5-9)

All in all, it’s about our second chances being lived through how God wants them.

And queue this little number by Coldplay. To me, God is giving me another chance. He is going to fix my current condition after all else has failed. Relationships are gone. Jobs are not opening. Families are being tested. God is ready to start living through us to fix what we cant- to work things out for our good.

“When you try your best, but you don’t succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can’t sleep
Stuck in reverse

And the tears come streaming down on your face
When you lose something you can’t replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you.”

Just think about it for a few minutes.

Anyways, here was some other things I found too..

Psalm 89:16 “The Right and Justice are the roots of your rue, Love and Truth are its fruit.”

v. 87:6 “God registers their names in his book: this one, this one and this one- born again, right here.”

86:4-7 “Give your servant a happy life- I put myself in your hands!”
…Every time I’m in trouble I call on you, confident that you’ll answer

86:14-17 “But you, o God, are both tender and kind
Not easily angered, immense in love
And you never, never quit
So look me in the eye and show kindness,
Give your servant the strength to go on,
Save your dear, dear children!
…as you God gently and powerfully put me back on my feet.”

Proverbs 17: 9- “Overlook an offense and bond a friendship; fasten on to a slight and – good-bye friend!”

17:17 “Friends love through all kinds of weather, and families stick together in all kinds of trouble”

17:22 “A cheerful disposition is good for your health; gloom and doom leave you bone-tired.”

Letra:

When you try your best
But you don’t succeed,
When you get what you want
But not what you need,
When you feel so tired
But you can’t sleep,
Stuck in reverse.

When the tears come streaming down your face,
When you lose something you can’t replace,
When you love someone but it goes to waste,
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones.
And I will try to fix you.

High up above or down below
When you’re too in love
To let it go.
If you never try you’ll never know
Just what you’re worth.

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones.
And I will try to fix you.

Tears stream down your face
When you lose something you cannot replace.
Tears stream down your face
And I…

Tears stream down your face.
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes.
Tears stream down your face
And I…

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones.
And I will try to fix you.

Y también traducida al español:

Cuando lo intentas todo
Pero no tienes éxito,
Cuando obtienes lo que quieres
Pero no lo que necesitas,
Cuando te sientes tan cansado
Pero no puedes dormir,
Atascado en marcha atrás.

Cuando las lágrimas caen por tu rostro,
Cuando pierdes algo que no puedes reemplazar,
Cuando amas a alguien pero se desperdicia,
Podría ser peor?

Las luces te guiarán a casa
Y encenderán tus huesos.
Y yo intentaré arreglarte.

Bien arriba o bien abajo
Cuando estas muy enamorado
Como para dejarlo pasar.
Si nunca lo intentas nunca sabrás
Lo que realmente vales.

Las luces te guiarán a casa
Y encenderán tus huesos.
Y yo intentaré arreglarte.

Las lágrimas caen por tu rostro
Cuando pierdes algo que no puedes reemplazar.
Las lágrimas caen por tu rostro
Y yo…

Las lágrimas caen por tu rostro.
Te prometo que aprenderé de mis errores.
Las lágrimas caen por tu rostro
Y yo…

Las luces te guiarán a casa
Y encenderán tus huesos.
Y yo intentaré arreglarte.
