First, I’ll note that the whole basis for this blog got brought up originally the other night over an argument with my parents. Basically for some reason my mom and dad feel that the tween-pop musings of Taylor Swift are better than, and I quote “That bitch Beyonce and that other bitch Pink.” Well clearly I could not stand for such vile words against Pink especially so due to that I say to you Mom and Dad :

Look, I’ll be the first to admit she’s cute, she has some pretty eyes – and my friend Rome Frost claims that she’s a kitten and was good on Saturday Night Live. But then he goes on to say that I’m just jealous because she’s prettier, more talented and taller than I am – which of course we all know is untrue. I however didn’t see her on SNL and even if she were as good as Mister Frost would seem to suggest then perhaps she should go into acting and save the world a lot of trauma due to the consistent blaring of her awful music on the airwaves.

The fact of the matter is Miss Swift I don’t give a shit that you write your own lyrics and music – “You’re the reason for the teardrops on my guitar.” You’ve got to be kidding me? There is only one reason that someone has never come up with these lyrics before… because they are the predictable lines that could only be delivered by a 17 year old girl with no life experience and be appreciated by 14 year old girls with even less. Now, I’m not saying that you’re completely untalented Miss Swift. Firstly, and perhaps most importantly, you’re dating that guy from Twilight – so by the very nature of that I’m going to assume you’re at least good at a blowjob – Native Americans are notoriously finicky when it comes to blowjobs – but in any case the fact that you wear blue jeans and give natives amazing blowjobs on your downtime doesn’t mean that we believe you when you say you’re just a girl in a t-shirt while she’s in a short skirt or whatever. You’re hot you stupid little girl and everyone knows it including you. Nothing worse that someone hot pretending not to embrace it, all the while using the fact to sell record.

I’m rambling at this point – I guess in the end all I really want to say is that Taylor Swift sucks for now. Someday she might be great, in fact I’m willing to bet money that she’ll grow into a talented mature singer/songwriter that even I’ll learn to appreciate but for now she should keep her contrived pre-pubescent lyrics on the Disney Channel until she’s old enough to write songs about her blowjobs with the other Taylor.

So in closing, even though he’s an asshole – I still think his music is damned good so steal some of it (cause no guy who is this big of a douche deserves your money) In any case this video is awesome :

Freakish. bizarre. tranny. sinister. pretentious. avant garde. creative. genius.

There are many adjectives to describe Lady Gaga. But to do so, is to categorize her and she’s really in a league of her own.

From her hit song “Just Dance” to her latest collaborative efforts with Beyoncé, Lady Gaga is causing quite a stir in the world of music and fashion. She perturbs just as many as she inspires and if she didn’t have a handle on the fashion scene, the Accessories Council would not have named her 2009’s Stylemaker.

So what is it about Lady Gaga that has many going gaga?

Perhaps it is the intricately planned costumes by her Haus of Gaga (costume design team) or her ability to wear the most unimaginably high heels that have people labeling her our generation’s Madonna.

Throughout fashion week her influence was apparent and during Halloween, dressing as Lady Gaga was the equivalent of dressing as Amy Winehouse in 2007.

With these observations, I’m led to believe that:

- the world has gone mad and/or

- Gaga allows us to live vicariously through her as we all struggle to channel our inner badass

Or maybe Lady Gaga is just a breath of fresh air….  As equally talented as she is stylish, leaving many people afraid of what she’ll do next.  Her fashion is not for the faint of heart and if for some strange reason she falls off that wagon, her international appeal and slew of faithful fans who support her music will suffice.

I have grown to love Lady Gaga and while I may not always understand what she has on, I can appreciate the ballsy confidence she exudes as she parades down the street in her knickers.

Her creative freedom is enviable. Gaga does quite frankly whatever she wants to and she’s taking no prisoners.

Sooner or later, she will win over your heart, so you may as well get on board now.

You may have witnessed the DJ skills of DJ IQ at our Droppin’ Science party back in October. If so, you’ll probably be pretty excited about his next mix CD release Flashing Lights. If not, you’ll get another chance to see him in action at the launch party on Wednesday December 2 @ Market Place.

Mixed reviews on this one: Kanye West as himself in a short film directed by Spike Jonze. They teamed up for Kanye’s Flashing Lights video (on a shovel tip), but this is a full 11 minutes long and perhaps a likkle more typically Jonze than a ’simple’ music video. Sit back and prepare yourselves for mini swords, leopardskin pillows and pissing off the bouncers.

I saw Spike Jonze’s Where The Wild Things Are this past Saturday. At the Imax, dudes. With actual children, no less. And then I had a lovely dinner for four that two friends cooked. Austin is a town full of hospitable folk doing their part to drive the long-anticipated feature to the number one draw at the box office. Y’all come.

Now, I’ve been waiting for Jonze’s third feature, based on the classic Maurice Sendak children’s book, to come out for years (I guess on the heels of his video for Kanye West’s “Flashing Lights,” the duo have released We Were Once a Fairytale – thanks for the update, Annie). And while the $600 playsuit threatened to put a damper on the proceedings, dammit if I didn’t choke up every time I saw the trailer. In short, my expectations were susceptible to being dashed.

So I was pleasantly surprised that they pretty much weren’t. My only real complaint is that I actually think the script Jonze and Dave Eggers put together could have been less conventional. That said, the movie does a commendable job bridging a fantastical island of wild things from the protagonist Max’s imagination into some place at once real and unreal — the wild things are faithfully rendered from the book, yet have names like Carol and Alexander. It also does a good job capturing the loose pacing and the seemingly nonsensical ideas that come to life from creative processes. Carol, the leader of the wild things, builds a miniature world that contains all his friends and idealized notions of life with them in a manner at once so precise and makeshift that I couldn’t help but wonder if the diarama was Jonze’s tip of the hat to buddy Michel Gondry. Max orders the wild things to build a fortress that seems impossible to build, until it materializes before our eyes. 

Oh, and I can’t believe I saw a big-budget mainstream motion picture where all of the studio logos were defaced by children’s doodlings.

There are startling moments of realism in Max’s fantasy world, as when a real raccoon appears in a wild thing’s belly named Richard or when another wild thing rescues a housecat. There’s also shocking moments of aural and physical violence, both in Max’s real and imagined worlds. A wild thing rips a limb off another, teenage boys dive into the igloo Max lovingly built out of snow in his front yard, Max tells his mother (played by the superlative Catherine Keener) a story about a vampire who loses his fangs while trying to bite through a castle’s walls. Nothing is more violent than our emotions, however, especially when they materialize as shouts of joy and squishy snot pools of angst.

For Max, almost all of these emotions and flights of fancy are the result of his parents’ recent divorce, clearly Jonze’s attempt to process his childhood and his dissolved marriage to Sofia Coppola. Some people may really hate this narrative decision, which is no where addressed in the skeletal source material. I note that Sendak intentionally left the story elliptical and thus would be heartened to see multiple adaptations of this book from a variety of directors, each with their own sense of character motivation and plot. Also, as a product of a broken home who in all likelihood was sitting in a theater with other children and adults who dealt with divorce, I found a tremendous amount of catharsis in watching this lonely boy try — and sometimes fail — to work through his feelings about what once was but can never be again. Speaking for myself, I got through this by drawing murals of mermaids that talked to me, having eight imaginary sisters named Jessica, and running in my backyard alone pretending to be a fairy. So I felt for Max.

Thinking about kids, let me give it up for the crowd with whom I saw this movie. Possibly the only screening I’ve been to where the sound of babies crying actually added to the ambiance, I’m happy to report that the theater I saw this movie in was teeming with kids. And not all white, liberal, hipster kids whose parents like movies that do well in Brooklyn. “Regular” kids, some with bowl haircuts and homemade crowns and Nike running shoes. ”Normal” kids who seemed energized by the movie afterwards (as someone who was scared of monsters, I would not have been one of those kids). And most of them seemed to be pretty on-the-ball, problematizing some of the speculations that kids won’t “get” this movie. I’d gladly point out the boy behind us who instantly figured out that two squawking owls were telling a knock-knock joke. 

And speaking of on-the-ball kids, I can’t believe lead actor Max Records has only been in a few other things. With that too-cool-for-school name, I do believe that Lance Bangs (aka Lester Bangs’s son, aka Mr. Corin Tucker) discovered him. That said, there isn’t a false moment in his multi-faceted performance. Also, I feel a little weird about this, but he’s a total hottie-to-be, not unlike Emma Watson when she starred in the first few Harry Potter movies.

As for the sounds, two things struck me about this movie that I haven’t fully processed but stay with me long after the initial viewing. One is the score. I’ve been thinking about Karen O and Carter Burwell’s work here for some time. I listened to the soundtrack after Stereogum posted it. On its own, it was pleasant and at times interesting, but seemingly not of a piece. With the visuals, however, the songs Karen O put together with Burwell and as one of the Kids take on new resonance. Her vocals also seem to help us orient and empathize with Max. Using a woman’s voice to identify with a boy protagonist is interesting, and certainly plays with notions of queerness, androgyny, and between-ness. This ambiguity was something that seemed possible in some of the M.I.A. songs used in portions of Slumdog Millionaire that focused on protagonist Jamal’s childhood. It is certainly evident in the construction of Max’s pre-pubescent, slightly degendered, soft boy identity here.

A final thing that interested me that I hadn’t anticipated was the use of voice actors for the wild things. Forrest Whitaker, Catherine O’Hara, Lauren Ambrose, Paul Dano, and James “Tony Soprano” Gandolfini lent their voices and considerable acting ability to create a whole different sense of aural corporeality and heightened realness to these otherwise fantastical monsters. When Ambrose’s KW tells Max “I’ll eat you up, I love you so” as she bids him goodbye as he returns home from his imaginary travels, I believe it and don’t forget the sound of her words.

Is Kanye West a media genius, a buffoon or somewhere in between?

If nothing else, you must give Kanye West credit for making hits and knowing how to stay at the forefront of our minds.  From the Taylor Swift incident at the MTV VMA’s (was it staged for publicity?) to canceling his tour with Lady GaGa to this…    Director of the moment, Spike Jonze (Where The Wild Things Are is #1 at the box office), has teamed with Kanye on a short film that has the internet abuzz today.

“We Were Once A Fairytale” is a 10-minute disjointed piece that is at the same time heartbreaking, prophetic and powerful.  It follows a drunken Kanye, stumbling around a club and acting beligerent and out of control, until he passes out.  He awakes only to rush into a bathroom and vomit up a strange red substance, finding a tiny rat-like creature in his stomach.  You have to see it for yourself to see if you can make sense of it.

Listen, I’ve been to therapy (one of my personalities is named Dr. Debbie Lipshitz) and there were no naked people in the Santa Fe decor-soaked office! Not that I was aware of. Anyway, some crazy is suing Dr. Phil for malpractice, claiming that he not only caressed her titter but also prevented her from leaving his office and made her look at penis. What the-? Every one of my multiple personalities and my anger management problem would have been cured if I got to look at clothing optional hot dudes for 50 minutes once a week. Can you work as a nude model for psychiatrists’ offices? Is that a valid job pursuit? This is from People.

Shirley Rae Dieu, 56, of Irvine, Calif., claims she was seeking therapy from Dr. Phil in his Hollywood office in 2007 when she allegedly was held captive and “forced to be in the same room with a completely live naked man while he exposed his entire naked body, genitals and all,” according to her filing.

Any of you hookers who watched Top Model last night were treated to an embarrassing spectacle. Never before have I seen something on TV as rigoddamndiculous as Tyra Banks as “Supersmize.” What is Supersmize? It’s Tyra’s new flat weaved, canned H.A.M. (hot ass mess) supercrazy vaccuum packed in some spandex and defeating gay photographers by smiling with her eyes acting job.

Stumbling in dressed as Clark Kunt and over-acting, she launched into a series of poses with the cheapest, most horrifying camera work since that … “documentary” (porno) I shot at Bear Week in P-Town this past summer. And those poor girls had to cheer and clap! Oh, it hurt my ovaries with the awful.

Banks has created a new term, “smize”, for her (self-described) major talent – smiling with your eyes. She wants it on Urban Dictionary, she wants gays across this fey land using it, and she wants to obviously cause burgeoning models to lose their jobs because if I was a photographer and some waif asked me if she should “smize”, I would ask her ass to leave and take her Diet Coke and ciggies with her. Because Tyra Banks is ruining modeling for the rest of us by trying to remake it in her own image. And that image is “fucking crazy meglomaniacal bitch!”

There’s a hot new trend in Hollywood, and no, I don’t mean shoving meth crystals up your ass while writhing on a stripper pole attached to an ice cream truck (I see you, Miley). Celebrities now like to storm the stage at awards shows! And who can blame them? There’s really only so much attention to go round, and you need to seize that spotlight if you feel people haven’t thought about you and your art in the last five minutes.

The VMAs on MTV were actually sorta thrilling this year (eye roll) due to celebrities acting upon their desperation!

By now, everyone has seen the video of drunk homosexual Kanye West (dude, you’ve seen his piece…that is a gay fashionista’s wet dream of a girlfriend) rolling up on innocent little Christian Taylor Swift to tell her and the world that she didn’t deserve her video of the year award and that it should have gone to Beyonce’s thick leg for that video she ripped off of Bob Fosse’s piece and had the robot hand of dancing danger. It was a precious moment for Kanye. West, high on Hennessy (check the photo), was trying to make sure he worked some twattiness out of his psyche in front of America and somehow arrange a connection with Beyonce. I think he just wants to style her next photoshoot. And a pretty 18-year-old looked like she wanted to cry. Hot. Beyonce was also able to somehow distance herself from the matter, yet not completely close down the option of Kanye appearing on her next single with a mere look. Bitch knows how to temper it to achieve maximum results!

I am every shade of malevolent, and I feel that it is right and just for a teenager to be made to cry in front of America. She has a ton of money, she’s pretty, and she’s on top of the world. She will look back on this (fake) moment in her life and (laugh that it got her even more press and made her look even more like the human version of Barbie’s cousin Skipper) realize it toughened her up. In short, I enjoyed it and I was hoping for a waterfall of tears to soak the front of her dress. Not for that reason, pervs! This tragedy did not touch my heart.

Everyone went up in their arms about this matter, like it was crucial to world politics. Our president (who needs to check his “I’m down with the people” thing a little and focus on some more important shit like being a Nazi about healthcare..I kid) even called Kanye a “jackass!” West has already gone on an apology tour, Taylor’s got something new to talk about besides being pretty, and popular, and accepting Jesus into her heart, and Beyonce gets to look like the Salvation Army of one for offering Taylor screen time to accept her reward without a drunk homo swooping in on her ass.

Frankly, all of these people are useless and this is just going to make THEM MORE MONEY! Someone is going to end up on someone else’s song, and making a surprise appearance at someone’s concert! Don’t get it twisted! Jesus, they had Beyonce and Taylor in matching dresses when she had her come out! All of this shit is planned! There aren’t stupid people! Or at least, theses are stupid people with hard-working publicist types. You know that every other award winner there was wishing Kanye had flitted out to rant during THEIR acceptance speech! Fuck, if I was a celeb type, you would have noted me peeping for Kanye out of the side of my eye and hoping him and his bottle of licka were on the way to ruin my evening for maximum fame results!

I was sitting in a bar yesterday afternoon (don’t judge, I’m unemployed) and I was noting that every story on the Insider seemed to revolve around these dicks. Uh, hello, it should have been the Patrick Swayze appreciation hour and these plastic people got top billing. Boo, bytch, boo! STAGED!

So Lil’ Mama is kind of a rapper and a judge on one of those reality dance shows, and well, that’s about it. Obviously she realized that she needs to get on the come up and bring everyone’s attention to her and her dwarf act. So she leapt upon the stage during Jay-Z and Alicia Keys‘ performance and posed with them at the end. Hova tried to shoo her ass off the stage to no avail. I’m surprised that that bull dyke Alicia Keys (don’t get mad) didn’t punch her in the bagina. Keys strikes me as someone who doesn’t brook intrusion upon her show. Anyway, Lil’ Mama later issued an apology, causing people to go “who dat?”

To Kanye’s credit, he can inspire a trend that is so delicious bitches are jacking it a half-hour later. That queen is leading the charge!

Hopefully, white people embrace this new trend (seriously, black people are always going to get ripped off by us, it’s sad but true) and we start seeing Kathy Bates bum-rush the show during Cate Blanchett’s speech at the Oscars, insisting that the award should have gone to Edie McClurg.

We had the windows open, because we’ve had the central air off for a week, with low humidity and temps in the mid to upper 70’s or low 80’s, so the bedroom was cool, the sheets comfortable.

We got into bed as usual, hubby snoring before I even had my pillows re-arranged, Kodi between us, resting my hand on his hip with his tail draped over my wrist.

I lay awake for a while, probably a half hour or so, watching the lights on my power chair battery charger flashing from orange to green as it charged.

I had just started to drift off to sleep as I heard a heavy “thwap, thwap, thwap” outside. With this noise there was a flashing white light, like a strobe light.

My sleepy, sluggish mind snapped to life with images of UFOs, little green men, stuff straight out of sci-fi movies.

I got up, went into the bathroom, out of curiosity and a desperate attempt to empty my bladder, something that seems to be less possible as I ‘mature’.

I looked out the window to find a police helicopter hovering right over our backyard. It had two strobe lights on the bottom of its belly and it was shining a spot light into our neighborhood. It circled around and came back three times, before moving off to the south, toward the river. Suddenly a police cruiser, with lights flashing accelerated past our backyard in the opposite direction.

As I left the bathroom and went back to bed, I could still hear the helicopter for at least another half hour.

As if it isn’t hard enough to get to sleep these days! LOL

Did you ever wonder what was going on underneath Tyra Banks‘ multiple wig formations? I didn’t. I always just assume people who wear that many wigs do so for a reason. Wearing a wigpiece all the time must be hot and uncomfortable. So you must have some sort of bald patch situation or scabs or scars to cover up. Like this:

He’s driving that thing with his fupa. I have tried to avoid writing about the Gosselins as much as possible because they don’t interest me that much and why give two media hungry dolts the press dildoing they so obviously crave. Plus, her hair makes me uneasy. But when someone comes right out and says how they feel and stops beating around the bush (aka Kate’s flat than spiky tufts of gross) – I take notice!

Jon Gosselin, the doughy manboy star of Jon and Kate Plus 8, has given an interview to Good Morning America in which he spills everything he’s been keeping tamped down under those shitty Ed Hardy shirts he’s been sporting around the pools of Vegas.

People reports that Jon claims he was “abused” by Kate verbally, that she ganked his wedding ring (as well she should, it could fetch something on Ebay), and that he “despises” her.

That last part is hot because it just took this bitch to a whole new level. Once you come right out and say how you feel, all bets are off. She’s going to free that bodyguard she’s effing out from under her scare hair and send him after Jon Dough.

Those eight chillun are already rolling their eyes at Mom and Dad. Alexis isn’t feeling this drama. Abuse? She’s abusing all of us with that sour face and that thing on her head. She’s abusing us all like Sybil’s mom kicking her down the stairs and locking her in the basket with the purple crayon!

Gosselin is serious about his accusation that wife for now Kate snatched up his wedding band when he was checking out the babysitter or whatever.

Almost as bad, he says, she stole his wedding band. He put down the ring one day only to have it disappear – and Kate’s the only person who could have taken it, he says.

She does strike me as the kind of ho who would get vindictive. Then again, in her defense (! I know..), if I saw this tubby bitch squeezed into gross Ed Hardy shirts and running around with Michael Lohan to parties on every coast, I’d be heisting his personal jewelry as well. Why don’t you bring the kids to your Rock of Love times, Jon? Perhaps the 23-year-old meth addict with the french tips and bleached porn star asshole can watch the younger ones. I was watching Mean Girls with The Boyfriend and Tornetta Danjajandz the other night and we were all marveling at exactly how low this one has sunk. Those are some damn depths. She was a bright, shiny firecrotch star on the rise! And then you get way too into yourself and try and handle your narcissism with several bumps and then you’re wearing ironic t-shirts and looking like the girl who didn’t make it onto A Real Chance of Love 2: Back in the Saddle.
