Adobe DevSummit is the biggest annual developer event focused on the Adobe Flash Platform. This event attracts a rich demographics of  pan across devigners(designers and developers) in India.  Adobe has been consistingly showcased path breaking technologies at DevSummit.

For the first time, Adobe DevSummit is coming to both Chennai and Hyderabad in India.

In spite of my vacation during this events, I will try to amend my schedules to attend this session in Hyderabad.

Nokia  has designed an application in Flashlite for the tracking of disease using mobile devices here.

1.  Important feature of the software’s ability is data collection. Rapid and precise collection of information, which is then sent instantly to a central server, speeds up what is currently a time-consuming paper-based activity.
2. Actual aggregation of the data which helps to build a picture of what’s happening and where.
3. Getting the information back to local practitioners, as it then enables them to take appropriate action. What marks HealthRadar out further is the ability to consume the data either on a mobile device or a PC, so the gathered data is useful to people in the field and those based in medical centres.

The software also features a Dashboard which enables users to quickly access key information including a daily update, a GeoHealth Map which highlights disease intensity alongside local health centres, the ability to compare current patterns against historic ones and statistical graphs.

Today, Adobe Unveiled First Full Flash Player For Mobile Devices And PCs.  Close to 50 Open Screen Project Participants Support New Browser Runtime for Multiple Platforms.

Adobe unveiled Adobe® Flash® Player 10.1 software for smartphones, smartbooks, netbooks, PCs and other Internet-connected devices, allowing content created using the Adobe Flash Platform to reach users wherever they are. A public developer beta of the browser-based runtime is expected to be available for Windows® Mobile, Palm® webOS and desktop operating systems including Windows, Macintosh and Linux later this year. Public betas for Google® Android™ and Symbian® OS are expected to be available in early 2010. In addition, Adobe and RIM announced a joint collaboration to bring Flash Player to Blackberry® smartphones, and Google joined close to 50 other industry players in the Open Screen Project initiative.

There had been varied rumors had been flying around for a few days before this FOTB’09 that that we would be able to check some sneak peaks at this year’s Adobe keynote, and that’s exactly what happened. Richard Galvan and Mark Anders, “Senior” Principle Scientist at Adobe, were back again this year with an update on the Flash platform and a sneak peek on Flash CS5 and the new Flash Mobile features. YES, IT IS FLASH CS5.

Marc Anders started off by going over the current platform situation and Flash Player 10 installs continue to impress. New figures due out shortly will put the coverage at over 90%. Mark used some community demos to run through features in the Flash Player 10 and AIR runtimes.

Richard Galvan gave first sneak peak of “Viper” Flash Professional CS5. The big news for developers is that Flash authoring finally gets integration with FlashBuilder. If you’re using Flash CS5, a new FlashBuilder project can be created from Flash CS5 through a new export dialogue.

Debashish Paul, from the Mobile & Devices Engineering team of Adobe Systems Bangalore in India, will demonstrate how easy is to create Flashlite application and deploy on mobile devices.  This will be a practical session, where the audience can follow the presenter on their laptop and eventually would have Flashlite application ready for use. Just last week, Sony Ericsson has released Flash Lite™ UI Components version 2.0 beta. Sony Ericsson UI components enable Flash developers to build custom user interfaces in a fraction of the time it used to take, without compromising too much on performance and memory.

The components can also be used with Sony Ericsson’s Project Capuchin, where the UI presentation is designed in Flash Lite™ while the data logic is provided by Java code.

This 18 new components have been introduced in version 2.0 beta, greatly extending the possibilities of your Flash applications without running out of memory and are optimized for SEMC devices, and mostly suited to run Capuchin.

Now Adobe has a new Flash Platform blog.

Though late arrival, never thought that this would be so pretty cool. Now Flash has come alive in it’s first Android based device, the Hero from Open Screen partner HTC!!!!!

It should be a direct sequel to the G1, and has all the features like multi-touch HVGA screen, accelerometer support, GPS, Compass, WIFi, 5 MP camera, Android Webkit Browser, and now with having Adobe Flash makes for even more very rich mobile web user experience.

Adobe has a good a really good press release which explains in detail. They also have made a good video where the Adobe Platform team explains some of the features of the Flash implementation on the HTC Hero device.   According to Mark’s blogpost, it’s possible to view up to 85% of online video through the Flash Player, supports latest Flash Lite 3.1 supports streaming audio capabilities, as well as support for around 80% of Flash content on the web today through the device’s web browser. On this device, double clicking Flash content (games, ads, etc) brings it fullscreen mode, which seems to work very much intuitively: Demo of Flash on the HTC Hero (an Android device).

What version of Flash is this? Well, right now it’s Flash Lite 3.1 according to Adobe.  However, there have been prior public announcements that Flash 10 is coming to Android (by as soon as end of this year), as well as other mention of other SmartPhone platforms like webOS, Windows Mobile, & Symbian for starters down the lane.  Mark says that the HTC Hero has Adobe Distributable Player.  My lateral thought would be that, they (HTC) may upgrade the device at some point later (whether that means Flash Lite 3.x or Flash Player 10 can be anyone’s guess).  Here are few words from Adobe: Serge Jespers, Mark Doherty.  Here are some of the interesting comments from the Peter Elst & Dale Rankine of flashlite community.   With now over one billion devices running Flash, and Android represents a nice (open) platform in which Flash to grow, develop and play.  This new HTC Hero device represents the true mobile (web) experiences possible and I think we’ll see much more devices in the future.

Now Bill Perry from Nokia has a new blog/website – Bill (Mobile Perry) and he has updated his Nokia Flash enabled device list.

He has included not only the latest handset specs (including very latest 5th edition devices such as the 5800  & N97), but also some Maemo devices, namely the N800, N810, and N810 WiMax (which support a Flash 9 browser plugin)

It’s a very  useful resource for flashlite community, since the information in Adobe Device Central can sometimes be still (particularly if you don’t get ADC updates), and Bill has put in more information in his post, such as hardware support such as GPS, touch screen, rotation features, and even software feature support such as video support, S60 Platform Services and OVI Store support too.  This is one should appreciate in his efforts in putting all the updates in one place in go.

I always like when people blog about our shows while they’re going on.  Therefore, I felt it was only fair that I do the same for WWDC, since I’m an attendee with no responsibilities.

Today was the keynote, but everyone and their grandma will blog about that.  Instead, I’ll blog about some of the other cool stuff going down today.

First off, you can really make out with some great stuff at WWDC!  Here’s a picture of what I’ve received so far…and it’s just Monday.

My Free WWDC Stuff

As you can see in the picture, I made out like a bandit today.  Thus far, I’ve received a Nokia 5800, Jawbone Prime, 2 rubber ducks (bath toys for my boys!), 4 shirts (FastMac, Apple, Zagg, Symbian) and a Snow Leopard Preview DVD.  Life is definitely good.

The other thing I really enjoyed today was the Symbian hackathon.  The event itself was a little rough, but I put on events so I’ve got a critical eye.  Plus, the organizer only started 2 weeks ago, so it’s not like she had time to really do massive planning!  Hopefully, they’ll be joining us at InsideMobile so we can do this hackathon thing right!  The two biggest freebies in the pic, the Nokia 5800 and the Jawbone Prime, were courtesy of Laura, Maurice and their team over at Symbian.

The ironic thing is that I built my first Flashlite App at the Symbian hackathon during WWDC!  I have to admit, I was a little wary going in, but I definitely had fun.  John even got in on the dev action, helping me debug my FlashLite stuff.  It ’s a cool little app that was conceived, produced and delivered all during the hackathon.  I can’t wait for Symbian to come to InsideMobile where some of our speakers can help teach FlashLite for them and others can disover the joys of mobile development.
