In the new issue of Elle Magazine, Ryan Reynolds opens up about his relationship with singer Alanis Morissette.

They dated for 4 years and at one time were engaged.  Then, Reynolds had an early midlife crisis he says.

“I started to feel really reflective,” he says. “I really wanted absolute yesses in my life, as opposed to maybes.”

i.e.. Alanis no longer wanted to define their love in a marital union and that pissed off Reynolds ego.

Reynold’s midlife crisis then led him on a motorcycle ride across Australia.  Morissette went on to release a hit album, Flavors of Entanglement.  She is happily ina  relationship with someone now, and he is married to a fat ass british man Scarlet Johansson. 

Alanis Morissette will guest star for the 5th season of SHOWTIME’s highest-rated comedy series WEEDS, premiering Monday, June 8th at 10p PT/ET. The multiple Grammy-winning singer/​songwriter will guest star as a no-nonsense clinic obstetrician, “Dr. Audra Kitson,” who treats Nancy (Mary-Louise Parker) in at least seven of the season’s 13 episodes. Morissette joins Jennifer Jason Leigh as season five special guest stars. 

Alanis Morissette has released a series of groundbreaking albums that have sold more than 60 million copies worldwide. She has won twelve Juno Awards, seven Grammy Awards, and has also received an additional fourteen Grammy nominations. Alanis’ international debut album Jagged Little Pill introduced her to the world and broke countless records worldwide. It remains the best-selling debut album by a female artist in the U.S. and is the highest selling debut album worldwide in music history. Morissette’s subsequent five studio albums have all included a series of chart-topping singles. Her most recent release, Flavors of Entanglement, was released in June 2008 and debuted in the U.S. in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Top 200 album chart. Achieving success as a recording and performing artist, Morissette has also lent her talents to other forums. Her television acting work includes roles on “Sex and the City” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” along with a three-episode arc on “Nip/Tuck.”

For Ruth’s birthday I bought her two fairly recent albums by two highly talented Canadian female singers: Diana Krall’s samba influenced “Quite Nights” and Alanis Morissette’s  ”Flavors of Entaglement”.

Okay… I must admit… the Alanis Morissette buy was a bit selfish. I actually wanted to listen to it myself, but knew that Ruth would probably like as well.

I’ve used Alanis Morissette songs when teaching adult Sunday classes. Yes, she’s a bit “new agey” (as they say) and her theological views can’t exactly be described as “orthodox”… at least from a Christian point of view. But I (and some of my friends) have found deep truths in her songs – truths which point to our need of God’s unconditional love which is to be found in Jesus.

“Flavors of Entanglement” is a flavorfull album with a rich variety of songs. Yes… it does seem in many ways that she is singing lines from her personal journals (but what’s new) especially with regard to her split with fiance Ryan Reynolds.  But it is well worth the listen. The main theme that hits me is yearning (for heaven?)…  in the light of the reality of human existence (aka sin).

When we reflect on the state of the world – especially in relation to how human beings treat other human beings for the sake of power, or in midst of war and other acts of violence, we can easily point our finger and condemn (especially those of us in our nice western middle-class contexts). But for Alanis what happens “out there” is very similar to what happens in the “underneath” reality of our everyday existance  – in our kitchens, our bedrooms, our sandboxes, and our livingrooms.

There is no difference in what we’re doing here – That doesn’t show up as bigger symptoms out there.

De acordo com reportagem publicada no jornal local, a correria dos fãs da cantora canadense Alanis Morissette em busca de pacotes para o primeiro show da artista no Recife amanha (30) bombou.

Nas agências de viagem de João Pessoa, os preços variam entre R$ 120 (ingresso e transporte) até R$ 2,5 mil (camarote para 10 pessoas). Eu já estou com o meu há muito tempo. Assim como fiz no de Scorpions no mesmo Chevrolet Hall, preferi ir em uma excursão, pela tranqüilidade e mais segurança. Mal me agüento de ansiedade, afinal, a cantora canadense é um dos marcos da minha adolescência.

É um show que deve ficar para história – afinal, não é sempre que temos Alanis – a última passagem dela em solo brasileiro foi em 2003.

O primeiro show da turnê de lançamento do álbum “Flavors of Entanglement” no Brasil aconteceu na quarta-feira (21), em Manaus.

E o término da turnê em solo brasileiro acontecerá no dia 10 de fevereiro, em Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, no Pepsi on Stage.

Uma das mais premiadas e celebradas cantoras da atualidade, a canadense Alanis Morissette, estará  apresentando na Via Funchal no dia 3  fevereiro.O show faz parte da turnê de seu novo disco, "Flavors of Entanglement".

"Flavors of Entaglement" é o primeiro disco de estúdio de Alanis em quatro anos. Com seus 10 discos anteriores, incluindo o MTV Unplugged e o álbum "The Collection", Alanis vendeu mais de 50 milhões de cópias em todo o mundo e tornou-se uma das mais influentes cantoras e compositoras da geração de artistas surgidas nos anos 90.

Ela nasceu no dia 1º de junho de 1974 em Ottawa, no Canadá. Apesar de ter começado em 1991 com o álbum “Alanis” ela só estourou em 1995 com o álbum Jagged Little Pill e já vendeu em toda sua carreira mais de 60 milhões de cópias em todo o mundo, ganhou sete Grammy Awards e está vindo ao nosso país pela terceira vez trazendo a turnê Flavors of Entanglement (sétimo álbum da carreira), já confirmada em 11 capitais começando no dia 21/01 em Manaus e terminando no dia 10/02 em Porto Alegre.

Para quem não sabe, Alanis Morissette está escrevendo um livro sobre sua vida. Ele seria lançado em 2006 e tem sido adiado desde então. Mas parece que agora sai.

O livro de memórias da cantora vai falar sobre vários assuntos de sua vida pessoal e profissional. Entre eles, Alanis confessa que já sofreu de bulimia e anorexia no começo da carreira, pois algumas pessoas falavam que ela não faria sucesso se fosse gorda. “O livro detalha algumas experiências que vivi e os abusos que sofri”, afirmou a moça para o jornal inglês Daily Mirror.

Ela também contou que, no final das contas, será uma obra sobre seus relacionamentos, fama, viagens e família. Tudo “polvilhado com muito humor autodepreciativo”, contou Alanis, que tem 34 anos.

I had deja vu at work yesterday. Once upon a time, I suppose when I was more on track, I experienced deja vu with what some might consider an enviable consistency. The experience yesterday was the first time in quite a long while. In trying to explain to myself what deja vu was like I came up with this analogy, which I think describes it perfectly: Deja Vu feels much like pressing the “Live” button for your DVR. Imagine you’re watching an episode of a TV show you’ve already seen and you’ve paused it several times throughout because certain scenes you don’t remember and they confused you, then you press the “Live” button on the remote and the scene that plays is instantly recognizable and you know exactly what’s happening. Deja Vu feels like that brief second of catching up and knowing where you are and that’s where you’re supposed to be.

Aside from that, last night my dreams were all about taking control of different aspects of my personality and my life that have proved difficult for me. Very inspiring. And then, when I awoke this morning I had Alanis Morissette’s beautiful song “Limbo No More” stuck in my head:

I think the Universe is talking to me.

I don’t know how I missed that one. It is one of my favorite tracks on my top 5 albums of 2008. Detours is easily up there with SiA’s Some People Have Real Problems, Adele’s 19, Ani DiFranco’s Red Letter Year and Alanis Morissette’s Flavors Of Entanglement. Madonna’s Hard Candy nor Janet Jackson’s Discipline made it. The word is still out on Mariah’s E=MC². Isn’t it weird that the year everybody released an album, there are only a few good ones?

It took her a while, but now she’s back. Bigger, better, still bitter. I’ve missed you.

I have been rushed by the influx of albums this year that there are some sexy albums that I did not give the time they deserve. Flavors Of Entanglement being on of them. I consider her the voice of our generation. Although she might not be a prolific as other artists or as recognized. Still,  Jagged Little Pill and its successor made their mark on 90s’ culture. This song is a mere continuation of that winning streak, even if I would have liked “Incomplete” to be a single.
