Monogramming.
Let’s talk about it, shall we? I was a child of the late seventies and admired the wrap skirt and purse sets embroidered with tiny whales and daintily monogrammed in a swirling motif readable only by ice skating judges. I did- I coveted it. So classy! So refined, so understated. Flashforward- it’s 2009 and we are in a parking lot somewhere in the south and this memory of corduroy and Lily Pulitzer has officially hit the pavement at the sight of rows and rows of SUV’s bedecked with their owner- or maybe it’s their favorite nascar driver’s initials etched in Monotype Corsiva across all of their back windows. So you’ve realized that the only way to class up your name is to break it down to it’s base elements? Some credit must be given to the owners, really, it is quite the head scratcher trying to decide how to break the average Southern moniker into just 3 letters- do you make their multiple first names just one name for space sake? Or leave off the last name entirely, since really, there are only a handful of last names in the south and most people are related, so they’d recognize Savannah Magnolia Belle without the added assistance of a sir name, right?
Seriously though- did you think this made ‘mom’s soccer taxi’ look like it was just teleported from the Hamptons? Do you close your eyes and just know that because of this subtle detail, you are going to hang out with Annette de la Renta when she spots you leaving the grocery store and heading for your Ford Valdez? Or did you think that this would be the way the police would locate your stolen vehicle? Really? Did the insurer offer you a discount since the recovery would be so much easier since you had it tattooed?
The only thing more ‘eh’ in my monogramming book of horrors is spending the extra $3 to get your flipflops emblazoned with your initials. I don’t know when it became acceptable to don shower shoes to venture forth to weddings and funerals, but trust me on this one, a classy monogram doesn’t really help.
While I’m feeling my oats about this topic, can I ask why anyone in their right mind would pay for a quilted purse that looks like a caftan print Mrs Roper wore? Seriously- that Bradley woman must be stopped- locally we have low SAT scores, but all the women can tell you the provenance of a quilted makeup bag from the Fall/2007 line in their sleep. A sleep unbothered by the irony of this fact.
Come on folks, lets remember, God gave us the wondrous gift of animals that become leather for our purse and footwear needs- would cows come in so many great colors if he wanted us to carry lesser products?

Best sandals I’ve ever owned!
We lived in San Clemente where Rainbow Sandals are made and drove by the Rainbow Sandal company many times. After buying cheaper sandals we finally stopped and purchased our first pair right before moving. I wish we’d bought 10! They were were so comfortable, we walked the Grand Canyon in them, and made a cross country trip in them. We bought a pair for everyone in the family. My husband, who never, ever, wears sandals, wears his Rainbow Westcape sandals almost everyday now. Sadly, my pair was lost in a leg of the trip, so I’ll be buying more. Recommend to anyone!

When I got these, I was immediately impressed with how great they look! They are very comfortable and definitely worth the price too. They offer a lot of support and are probably the best flip-flops I’ve ever purchased. The only thing is they run a little small in size.

I bought my first pair of Reef’s over 5 years ago. I loved them. When they finally wore out, I immediately began looking for another pair. They are comfortable, form to your feet, and last years. I will not buy any other brand. In fact, my daughters just received their first pair and loved them just as much as I do. If you are between sizes, do choose a larger size. My daughter wears an 8 in her other shoes, but a 9 fit best.

Igår flamsade jag runt på stan med K, som lustigt nog är från samma akademiska bondby in Sweden som jag. K, som bara ska bara vara här i ett år, har en märklig förmåga att alltid komma ihåg sin kamera, vilket bl.a. resulterat i bilderna nedan från våra senaste eskapader….

Här hade vi varit i södra delen av staden, på något möte med ett gäng brittiska expat-kvinnor (vi ska med liv och lust gå med i deras pysselgrupp, tänkte vi. Why not?!?!).  Sedan shoppade vi runt i närområdet tills det var dags att åka hemåt. Men först fick det bli en snabblunch från gatuköket. Jag min lilla idiot tyckte att det kunde vara lagom med att beställa “en liten macka” (se bilden). Hahaha!!! Jag åt inget mer den dagen… Observera också hur jag har positionerat mig (skylten!). Inte en fnurra rätt den dagen, liksom….

Denna bild är tagen några dagar senare. Vis av erfarenheten väljer jag denna gång att dela en “grilled sandwich” med K när vi ska fika på stan. Det är väl därför jag ser så glad ut på den här bilden – lättad över att jag slipper äta ännu en bauta-macka själv, burrrp…. Drycken på bilden är för övrigt färskpressad limejuice. Går att köpa överallt i Mumbai och rent förbannat god.

Med en rejäl grilled sandwich-halva i lilla maggen är det inga problem att gå ut hårt på shoppingfronten! Till och med håret står på ända av lycka och förväntan!!!

Och så här otroligt nöjd ser jag ut vid shoppingdagens slut, återbördad till hemmet (vilket befinner sig bakom den exkvisita porten). Vad det fanns i påsarna? Tja…bland annat…

…en stor mängd jättefina prydnadskuddar, och…

…denna piffiga tunika som kostade omräknat typ 55 svenska riksdaler på rea…

I övrigt börjar jag nästan känna mig som en riktig öfvre-medelklass-indier. Iklädd skitsnygga tunikor, capribyxor och flashiga flipflops blir jag minst en gång i veckan av min chaufför körd till något härligt luftkonditionerat shoppingcenter där jag NATURLIGTVIS har skaffat kundkort hos den stora varuhuskedjan Shoppers stop, samt hos landets största bokhandelskedja Crosswords (för min intellektuella utstrålnings skull). Nu ska jag bara få in rätta knycken med de karakterististiska indiska huvudskakningarna också, sen är väl saken i stort sett biff. (Jaja, det går lika bra med något vegetariskt alternativ. Aber bitte mit Garam Masala, så klart).

Der teuerste Fitflop ist der Fitflop Billow, ein Modell für den Winter mit viel Fell, damit Frau sich wohlfühlt. Stolze 119,95 EUR muss man für den Fitflop Billow, der in braun, ocker und pink erhätlich ist.

Für Wärme sorgt das echte Lammfell, das den Fitflop Billow ausmacht. Die Kollegen von Fitx2 empfehlen den Billow auch als Hausschuh. Umgeschlagen wird aus dem Winterstiefel ein Hausschuh, mit hochgeschlagenem Fell ist der Fitflop Billow der Eyecatcher in der Stadt.

Etwas ungewöhnlich finde ich die Aussage, dass es normal sei, wenn der Schuh drückt und zu klein scheint. Sollte sich der Fitflop beim Tragen aber tatsächlich an den Fuss anpassen, wäre das schon cool. Ich werde das demnächst testen und dann berichten!

Day 1: Rome, Italy

so this past sunday was my first day in rome. we got off the plane early in the morning and went right into sightseeing. i was pretty damn jet-lagged but i still had enough energy to walk until my feet hurt. however, i was not awake enough to care about my outfit, so forgive me for these lousy outfit pictures

the spanish steps remind me of the movie Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn, one of my favorite movies of all time. it’s such a gorgeous film with such a lovely actress. it was really crowded so it was hard to get a decent picture.

i tried making three wishes (the first, of course, being that i wished i would come back to rome), but i didn’t realize i was supposed to toss the coin over the opposite shoulder. hopefully they’ll forgive me and my wishes will come true anyway.
the last stop of the day was the Colosseum. luckily we were able to get in quickly and it was absolutely breathtaking! as brutal as the fights were, i really wish i was around for them because they must’ve been pretty damn amazing. my brother was definitely a fan of the colosseum.

Letzte Woche hatte ich einen sehr interessanten Kunden. Da ja SSV ist und wir wahrscheinlich die Flip-Flops und andere Artikel für fast nichts verscherbeln, meinte es wohl ein Kunde gut und hat reichlich eingekauft. Es waren 20 Flip-Flops, 4-5 Paar runtergesetzte Schuhe für 10 EUR und 2 Lego-Technik Teile für ca. 40 EUR. Da er soviele Flip-Flops geholt hat, habe ich nachgeschaut, ob er nicht da ein paar dazwischengepackt hat, die nicht soviel kosten. Aber alle für 1 EUR.

Der Kunde hatte einen leichten Osteuropäischen Akzent. Ich vermute mal, dass der die Sachen alle selbst für mehr Geld vertickt oder der hat einfach eine große Familie. Eine weitere Möglichkeit wäre die “Einwegnutzung”.

So a friend showed me these awesome flipflops from [SC] Surf Couture the other day but they seem to fit girls a lot better than they do guys. But they looked so damn good I just had to get them anyways. So after a little moding and a few curses I was able to get them to fit just right! They’re definitely worth the time and effort, plus they’re only 150L each! They come in a whole bunch of different colours so you can have whatever your little heart desires. The shorts are from NINIKOBOY and I kinda love the big chunky belt. So go get yourself a pair of flipflops and some shorts cuz Summer’s here man!

Es gibt neues von den Fitflops zu berichten. So scheint sich der Fitflop Oasis zum neuen Dauerbrenner zu entwickeln. Ich habe dieses Fitflop Modell bereits öfter in der Innenstadt gesehen!

Beim Fitflop Oasis handelt es um einen Fitflop aus Wildleder, der ansonsten dem erfolgreichen Grundmodell Fitflop Walkstar sehr ähnelt. Doch die Oasis Version scheint die Kunden offenbar mehr zu begeistern als die Grundversion Walkstar. Das Wildleder ist am Fuss sehr angenehm und auch preislich gibt es keine Unterschiede zum Walkstar – beide Modelle kosten 59,95 EUR exkl. Versandkosten.

Doch es gibt Unterschiede und zwar bei den Farben. Während es den Fitflop Oasis leider nur in braun (Fitflop Oasis choco) oder schwarz (Fitflop Oasis black) gibt, gibt es den Walkstar in rot, siler, schwarz, bronze und lila.
