MozBackup ermöglicht das Erstellen eines Backups der Profile von Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird, Flock, SeaMonkey, Songbird, der Mozilla Suite und Netscape. Unter anderem werden die E-Mails, Lesezeichen, Einstellungen und Kontakte gesichert. Die Daten werden in einem ZIP-Archiv mit der Dateiendung .pcv abgelegt. I am so wanting to blog more often I have been looking for ways to make it easier. Flock was the thing that got me going earlier and finally I have returned to it after seeing it recommended for Linux machines and I have jumped back on. It is running better than before and I am going to give it a real workout over the next few days.

Well, when i had several unfinished projects comes the time when I’m feeling tempted to mix them. So I took my Colored waveforms and mixed them with my flocking thingies… Completely ignoring audio levels and taking in account the tone frequencies converted in colors, turned the flock into a random number of bugs joined by lines that followed the mouse on click resulting in an audio colored flocking brush.

Also it turned into an interesting opportunity to try and write to se what kind of typographic artifacts would appear.

Going deeper into particle systems and that sort of things. I was thinking on steering wills, which would be a different force that would be applied to a particle inside a system. Being stubborn, I didn’t feel like using someone else’s library but wanted to make my own little bugs which would be working as a Flocking particle system.

For some reason i do not understand at all, flocking and crowd management plug-ins exist in 3d applications but not in Motion Graphics/Compositing applications… since i saw Robert Hodgin’s birds, it had become an obsession for me to use flocks,  and schools as motion graphic tools.

As an antecedent, the classic flocking logic and algorithms come from the Craig Reinold’s Boids which implement rules for steering based on cohesion, separation and alignment. So I started by using those rules and for the sake of interactivity and the so needed control added a “follow” behavior to make my little bugs follow the mouse.

This was a 2d project since at the time, my 3d programming skills were very lame -and still are-.

This was a challenging project since there is a new problem with this kind of ‘force’ being applied to a particle system, and is the fact that every particle has to check every other particle to know what force will be applied to it… and i had no idea how to solve this. Obviously, the solution was to pass the whole array of particles as a parameter when calling the update function for every particle and looping trough it to check which particles where close to the current one and finally compute the steering will for the current particle.

In my example, and for the sake of a nicer visualization, i made the local flock-mates visible by connecting lines, Red for avoiding and black for cohesion… i ended up ignoring the alignment desire since it probed itself useless when introducing a forced follow desire.

I also tried some cumulative results for the flock behavior and used the flock of particles to draw simple images, the results are not very predictable, but with a small group of particles and their joined lines, making every click a single stroke, very interesting results are possible.

In the future i hope to implement a 3d version of this and probably add more behaviors for the steering will force.

Very Recently i made some changes to the code to make it draw stuff and hence for typographic experiments. I hope to enhance it a lot soon.

Nachdem ich nun die ganze Woche nicht in Deutschland war und auch leider nur wenig (eigentlich gar nicht ) bloggen konnte, bin ich nun wieder da. Diesmal mit einer Empfehlung für ein nützliches Firefox Browser-Plugin: Das NoScript Plugin. 

Das NoScript Plugin sorgt für mehr Sicherheit und läuft mitallen Mozilla-Browsern, also Firefox, Seamonkey, Flock usw.

Wie der Name schon vermuten lässt, sorgt das Script dafür, dass Scripte auf Webseiten nicht bzw. nur so ausgeführt werden, wie wir (die User) es gerne hätten. Da immer mehr Webangebote auftauchen, die irgendwelche User mittels JavaScript u.ä. aushorchen oder schädigen, ist dieses Plugin meiner Meinung nach extrem wichtig geworden.

Als Voreinstellung werden ersteinmal alle Scripte blockiert (z.B. JavaScript, Java, Flash, …). Man kann sich jedoch auch eine Whitelist anlegen und darin alle Seiten aufführen, denen man vertraut. Auf diesen “Whitlist-Seiten” werden die Scripte dann natürlich ausgeführt.

Wer auf eine Seite kommt, die blockierte Scripte enthält, bekommt das angezeigt. Durch einen Klick auf den blockierten Seitenbereich wird das jeweilige Script dann auch auf “Nicht-Whitelist-Seiten” ausgeführt.

Das Plugin ist selbstverständlich kostenfrei aus dem Netz herunter zu laden. Mehr Informationen und den Download gibt es auf:

Trying to figure out other application offered by Flocks. Saw this application “Blog Post” and seems like interesting program to use.

Anyhow, I installed flocks because Jonathan told me, they are now using it in their office. Well, obviously I am wondering around  flock…..

Para guardar las contraseñas de forma automática en el navegador, sin que nos aparezca la barra preguntándonos qué hacer: “Recordar”. “Nunca para este sitio”, “No ahora”, tendríamos que seguir los siguientes pasos.

Abrimos la carpeta en donde se encuentre el archivo  ~/components/nsLoginManagerPrompter.js correspondiente al navegador Firefox, Flock, IceCat… Si no estáis seguros de su ubicación podéis usar el buscador de archivos:

Entramos en el archivo con privilegios de administrador, ya que la modificación afecta al aspecto de la privacidad en el navegador, ya que guarda contraseñas sin preguntarle previamente al usuario del navegador.

En el siguiente ejemplo editaré la ruta con ese directorio ya que mi arquitectura es de 64 bits, así que cambiadla por la que corresponda, ya que el buscador de archivos (como viene en la captura),  os marcará la ruta en cada caso.

Quedando los cambios tal y como muestro en la captura:

Lógicamente si el programa se encuentra dentro de un paquete y este se actualiza vía repositorios,  los datos que hemos modificado se perderán, para volver a la configuración original.

Finalmente si queremos acceder a las contraseñas seguiremos la ruta en Linux de Editar–> Preferencias–> Privacidad–> Contraseñas Guardadas. En este punto siempre he aconsejado utilizar la contraseña maestra cuyo acceso está en la propia ruta antes descrita, ya que así evitaremos que sean vistas por ojos indiscretos, puesto que las contraseñas se encuentran encriptadas en la carpeta del perfil.
