Je zou bijna denken dat het om een 1 april gaat, maar dat is het niet. Een advertentie die als een wolk in de lucht zweeft. Ontwikkeling kost 500 USD en 10 dagen. Daarnaast huur je nog een machine voor 35 USD per dag die de Flogo´s maakt en de lucht in blaast. Flogo´s bestaan uit zeep en helium, zijn zo´n 30 x 60 cm groot en kunnen tot wel 6 km hoog komen (daar zal de KLM blij mee zijn). De machine maakt een Flogo in 15 seconden. Bij regen werkt het niet. Het bedrijf komt uit Alabama, USA maar heeft een vestiging in de Benelux. Helaas werkt de Benelux website niet.

Tearing through the pages of a brand strategy magazine I picked up at the Toronto Search Engine Strategies Expo, I came across a brilliant idea: a company called Flogo’s that produces cloud-like logo advertisements that last for about a day. Companies like Disney are eating this up, and for just cause. What better way to exploit your companies grandeur than to scribe its logo into the planets weather pattern. Next up: Gatorade Ice- flavoured rain storms.

Once upon a time, humans were hunter gatherers. We depended on nature’s bounty for our sustenance and survival and loved the earth around us because it was all we knew and it was beautiful.

With the development of agriculture, humanity began its long foray into environmental experimentation and co-option; replicating favored crops and gradually altering them to favor specific traits and capabilities suited to our ever-more sophisticated needs.

In a similar trajectory, witness the birth of custom clouds.

Continuing in the pioneering tradition – if not quite the spirit – of the cloud-seeders at the GE Labs in Schenectady, NY – Snowmasters of Hollywood has developed the “Flogo;” a floating logo of water, air, and helium held together by a soapy mixture that can reportedly maintain its designated form for miles.

No need for imagination in order to see gods or that giant bunny; science and commerce have it on lock.

This reminds one of the effort to display laser images on the surface of the moon.

Sky-banner pilots, take note.

Have you seen the billboard for moonvertising on the Mass Pike near Fenway Park?  While advertising on the moon has been outed as a hoax by a beer company, and the FAA has declared a ban on it, other types of sky advertising are here to stay (think blimps, cloud-writers, and spotlights).  So what’s the next big thing for this method of advertising?  Well, familiarize yourself with Flogos, the environmentally friendly way to get your brand in the sky.  Disney World has already signed on, so if you’ll be visiting next month you’ll see Mickey floating above your head as a soapy mass.

Speaking of trends in business, how does doing away with your cashiers in retail strike you?  Some companies are moving forward with payment on the honor system, as seen here.  Interesting idea–can it be extended beyond small businesses?  Many companies already have the self check-out but I can’t remember the last time I’ve used one and not experienced troubles, or seen others struggling with it.  And I know there’s times I’d rather not deal with the bored-looking cashiers at many retail stores, so this may have its appeal for the right company.

Last, but certainly not least, what’s the deal with corporations using pop songs to tout their company?  I’m not talking about using a song in an advertisement, I’m talking about a company changing the lyrics so they’re singing about their company–like this one from Bank of America.  Read more about this odd form of corporate communication here.  What do you think–good for morale or just a pie in the face when a video is leaked on the internet?

The star that you see floating above that guys head is not some phenomenal occurrence, it is Francisco Guerra’s “Flogo”. This Alabama based entrepreneur developed a machine that turns tiny bubbles filled with air and helium into shaped clouds. He can make almost any logo and send it soaring above our heads. Disney plans to float some mickey mouse ears next month. I don’t really know what to think of this idea but I think I agree with the majority of the comments: marketing overload, its the sky people!!! Although ask me how i would have felt about it 20 years ago and I would have been on board; this one is for the kids.

Francisco Guerra مخترع Flogoها میگوید : ” طراحان از نرم افزار کامپیوتری برای تولید الگو استفاده میکنند و سپس آن الگو در ماشینهای تولید برف مصنوعی قرار می گیرد و این ماشینها کف را به شکل دلخواه مشتری در می آورند. “

این Flogoها در حدود 60 سانتیمتر طول و 30 سانتیمتر عرض دارند و چندین کیلومتر در هوا پرواز میکنند. عموما در ارتفاع 90 تا 150 متری از زمین می ترکند ولی میتوانند تا ارتفاع 6100 متری بالا بروند.
