50 Cent has officially hit a career low.

The G-Unit General landed on The Billboard 200 this week at the no. 5 spot—his lowest debut since 2007’s Curtis came in at second place below Kanye West’s Graduation. As expected, the disc managed to sell 159,700 units, according to the Nielsen SoundScan, marking the first time that the rap superstar failed to go gold in his first week. This number includes two weeks of digital sales on iTunes.

As previously reported, when 50 first burst onto the scene with Get Rich or Die Tryin’ in 2002 he sold 872,000 units in his first week. In 2004, his sophomore album, The Massacre, rang up over 1.15 million discs and Curtis moved close to 695,000 units.

This go-round, his album leaked almost a month in advance, which undoubtedly affected his sales.

Meanwhile further down the charts at no. 25 is the Black Eyed Peas. The group’s latest disc, The E.N.D., pulled in 31,200 units in sales this week, bringing their 25 week total to 1,387,300.

Jay-Z landed five more spots down at no. 30. Fans rang up 29,100 units of The Blueprint 3 this week, making his 11 week tally stand at 1,300,300.

Rap legend Rakim failed to break into the top 40 this week with his comeback album The Seventh Seal. The independent offering, Ra’s fist disc in 10 years, sold 11,500 units in its debut week on the charts.

Next week look for Birdman to fly onto The Billboard 200.

Ich fand dieses Buch gemessen an den Erwartungen und an den allgemeinen Lobpreisungen erstaunlich mittelmäßig. Mir persönlich hat es ehrlich gesagt eigentlich überhaupt nicht gefallen – soweit ich das beurteilen kann nach 130 “komplett” gelesenen und 50 nur noch stichprobenartig überflogenen Seiten.

Die in den positiven Kritiken hervorgehobenen Interpretationen und Aspekte des “American Dream” und der “großartigen Liebesgeschichte” sind an mir irgendwie vollständig vorübergezogen. Der aus einfachsten Verhältnissen stammende “Gatsby” ist durch nicht näher erläuterte Umstände nach dem 1. Weltkrieg zu Reichtum gekommen (American Dream?) und verzehrt sich immernoch nach seiner großen Liebe Daisy, die ihn einst abgewiesen hat und die jetzt natürlich doch auf ihn abfährt – wo er ja nun Geld hat (großartige Liebesgeschichte?). Und am Ende sterben dann alle vor lauter Dekadenz und Schlechtigkeit – hach nej, wat originell!

Ich fand die Figuren alle furchtbar blass und oberflächlich. Diese Oberflächlichkeit wollte Firtzgerald wohl auch vorführen (sonst wäre sie kaum derart überzeichnet), aber es misslingt in meinen Augen, da ein gewisser Gegenpol fehlt. Den Erzähler Nick, Nachbar von Gatsby und Verwandter Daisys, habe ich zunächst als neutral empfunden, was sich aber im Verlauf des Buches als Fehlannahme herausgestellt hat. Einer so fad wie der andere! Gatsby wirkte auf mich vollkommen blass und war mir persönlich unsympathisch: Reich, aber unglücklich und stets von schillernden Individuen umgeben, mit denen er rauschende Parties feiert, eventuell um die innere Einsamkeit zu überbrücken? Ein richtiger Waschlappen irgendwie. Sein ganzes Streben gilt seiner Jugendliebe Daisy, die ihn seinerzeit offenbar abgewiesen hatte, weil er arm war. Nun versucht er seinen Reichtum als Köder für Daisy einzusetzen und wieder an sie heranzukommen. Äußerst fragwürdig, wie ich finde – was will man mit jemandem, der einen nur des Geldes wegen liebt?

Die inzwischen anderweitig verheiratete Daisy ist so eingebildet wie oberflächlich und schlägt ihre Zeit mit Parties und sinnentleerten Gesprächen mit ihrer Freundin Jordan Baker tot. Jordan wiederum beginnt ein Techtelmechtel mit Nick, dem Ich-Erzähler des Buches. Schlussendlich betrügt eigentlich jeder jeden mit jedem. Das fand ich persönlich weder verwerflich, noch belebend, sondern schlicht strunzlangweilig. Dabei istdas Buch sprachlich/handwerklich sicherlich solide geschrieben (obwohl die deutsche Übersetzung, die ich gelesen habe, eher nicht so gelungen sein soll) und ich habe die Ausführungen Nicks anfags sogar ganz gerne gelesen. Allein: Es passiert fast gar nichts. Das muss nicht an sich schlecht sein, aber sowas muss man eben mögen – und ich mag es nicht. Handlung ist, von den amourösen Verstrickungen mal abgesehen, so gut wie keine vorhanden. Man schleppt sich von Party zu Party, wo man sich viel erzählt, aber wenig zu sagen hat. Und ich als Leser bin dabei fast im Stehen eingeschlafen.
Warum Fitzgerald die Dekadenz des Jazz Age so überspitzt darstellt und damit implizit kritisiert, ist mir nicht ganz klar geworden im Hinblick auf seinen eigenen offenbar doch recht ausschweifenden Lebensstil.

Summa summarum: Ich mochte das Buch nicht, ich fand es langweilig, fad, nichtssagend. Einzig die Sprache reißt noch einen Stern raus, der Schreibstil ist “gehoben”, gut verständlich, und es finden sich etliche wirklich ausgefeilte Formulierungen. Aber nur um der “Schönheit der Srache” willen hab ich noch nie ein Buch gerne gelesen, ich betrachte Bücher meist primär unter inhaltlichen Gesichtspunkten.

Anmerken möchte ich noch, dass ich das Buch schon lange mal hatte lesen wollen. Weil mich das Jazz Age so interessiert, weil ich den Titel so schön finde un dnicht zuletzt auch, weil wir in der 11. Klasse Hemingway gelesen haben statt Fitzgerald, denn Gatsby sei – ich zitiere meinen Englischlehrer – sterbenslangweilig. Da ich weder dem Lehrer, noch Hemingway sonderlich zugetan war, wollte ich mich gerne selbst vom Gegenteil überzeugen, muss aber nun leider sagen: Sie hatten recht, Herr Plön!

So 50 Cent’s numbers came out and he did 161k, now everybody wants to hate on 50 Cent and claim that he flopped. However people are forgetting a few things as they let the hate blind them.

Firstly, Before I Self Destruct leaked on the Internet a month before schedule. People do not realize the hassle this poses, as they are so used to being able to steal albums in this age. When many people set a date for an album to drop, they have a whole promotional schedule to follow to market the album. An album leaking early destroys that whole schedule, especially when your forced to push the album forward just like in 50’s case.

Secondly, Hip Hop record sales have been at a decline for years. Not many artists can go platinum like they used to back in 2003, its a totally different climate now. With the combination of piracy and the recession, the record business is as fragile as ever. Only artists that have the most amount of hype and controversy at the moment will get the right backing from record labels. The artists that are selling now are straight up cornballs in my opinion, they do not represent real Hip Hop at all.

50 Cent has kept it real, 100% throughout his whole rap career. He will not sell out and use autotune on a record, or create an album full of features with the most popular artists at that point.

When other well established artists sell around 100k their first week, nobody says anything. When 50 Cent does those numbers everyone is quick to call it a flop just because this is the day they have all been waiting for. The same people hating on 50’s sales are the same people bumping the pirated version of his album.

It is fair to say that 50 is a walking contradiction at this point, as he has clowned other artists such as Officer Ricky for doing these numbers. But that however does not mean that 50 Cent flopped, if the album didn’t leak a month ahead of time you could bet your money 50 would be gold right now.

So stop hating and buy records, support Hip Hop.

Rihanna ve la tirano dietro! Solo ieri avevamo comunicato che in America il suo album digitale (formato mp3) poteva essere acquistato a 3.99 USD, oggi invece arriva la notizia, cari signori, che l’album presto con un accordo tra DefJam e Amazon.com sarà disponibile a 0.99 cent… un niente, la metà di un caffè… !

Una situazione disperata, pare che “Rated R” si profili un flop bello e buono per ora, niente debutto alla numero 1 negli USA, e pare dalle mid-week inglesi, non entri nemmeno in top10 nel Regno Unito!

De verplichte leereenheid Factcheck zit erop. Drie weken in een té klein lokaal, zoeken naar fouten in berichtgeving en natuurlijk de stoffige onderzoeken. En ook de journalist moest het zo nu en dan ontgelden. Want niet alles wat de ‘waakhond van de democratie’ opschrijft is waarheidsgetrouw.

Boeiend
Een boeiend project, zo zou ik het willen omschrijven. FHJ Factcheck is veel meer dan alleen ‘journalistje pesten’. Het is opzoek gaan naar de professionaliteit van je eigen vak. Dat wat ook van mij wordt verwacht als ik in de toekomst op een redactie rondloop. En eerlijk is eerlijk, soms is het best wel schrikken van de fouten die er gemaakt worden.

Schoorvoetend
Zijn de journalisten blij met ons? Kort antwoord: nee. Sommige gooien ‘m na een flinke tirade erop, zoals collega-student Daniëlle Ponjé aan den lijve ondervond. Andere luisterden het verhaal wel aan, maar fouten toegeven doen ze niet of schoorvoetend. En dan ben je eigenlijk al best ver gekomen. Soms dring je niet eens door tot de redactie of word je afgescheept met een lullig mailtje.

Woordvoerder Factcheck
Ik kan me best verplaatsen in andermans situatie. Wat zou ik doen? Ik geef toe, het lijkt me niet leuk om geconfronteerd te worden met mijn eigen onzorgvuldigheden. Aan de andere kant houdt dit je scherp. Laksheid wordt genadeloos afgeschaft, en dat is goed. Niet voor niets is er bij het ANP een ‘woordvoerder Factcheck’ in het leven geroepen. Er gaat schijnbaar nog altijd een hele boel mis.

En dan was er natuurlijk nog de manipulatie bij De Wereld Draait Door. Een Factcheck die even een kleine hype werd. Enkele websites namen ons nieuwtje maar wat graag over, vaak zonder bronvermelding. Ook daarover hadden we weer een mooi artikel kunnen schijven op ons weblog. Maarja, je kunt natuurlijk niet bezig blijven…

La puntata di venerdì scorso (20 novembre) di Mistero, il programma condotto da Enrico Ruggeri, conferma la tendenza calante degli ascolti: dai 3 milioni e passa della prima puntata del 25 ottobre l’audience è scesa a 1,7 milioni (dati Auditel di Bilink.it). E lo share è stato del 7%, peggio di Rete4 e Raitre.

Posso osare sperare che sia segno che gli italiani si sono stufati di essere presi per i fondelli, a furia di sentirsi raccontare di conigli spacciati per feti alieni e di extraterrestri recuperati sulla Luna da missioni lunari Apollo?

Ich habe das Buch gerne gelesen, fand es aber letztendlich sehr durchschnittlich.
Gut gefallen hat mir die konstant aufrecht erhaltene Spannung, und Frau Link kann auch einfach gut erzählen. Dabei erreicht sie sprachlich kein sonderlich hohes Niveau, versteht es aber, den Leser einzulullen und Seite um Seite durch die Geschichte zu tragen. Ich war einfach neugierig, wie sich der Mordfall aufklären würde und wie dieser und jener begonnene Strang der Nebenhandlung enden würde. Es ist einfach leichte Unterhaltung mit einem spannenden Mordfall und an sich interessanten Beziehungsgeflechten, ohne großen Anspruch oder sprachliche Finessen.

Was mir, wie auch bei schon bei manchen anderen Link-Büchern, nicht so gefällt, ist 1. das Klischeehafte der Personen und der Handlung und 2. die Langatmigkeit. Man muss keinen 600-Seiten-Krimi schreiben, wenn sich auf bestimt 100 Seiten davon Landshafts- und Gemütsbeschreibungen befinden. Weitere 100 hätten rausgekürzt werden können, wenn man sich mal auf das Wesentliche konzentriert hätte. Mehrere Handlungsstränge werden begonnen und nicht weitergeführt und haben letztlich keinerlei Bedeutung für das Buch. Und es wird vieles bis zum Gehtnichtmehr wiederholt und betont – damits auch nur ja jeder kapiert. Das fand ich nach einiger Zeit anstrengend und ärgerlich.
Wirklich blöd fand ich die Auflösung des Mordfalles, bei dem in einem einsamen Landhaus 5 Personen zu Tode kommen von den insgesamt 9, die dort ihre Ferien verbracht haben. Es wird bald jemand unter dringendem Mordverdacht verhaftet, da alle Indizien gegen diese Person sprechen. Und irgendwann wird diese Person dann dennoch freigelassen, weil – uffbasse! – sich herausstellt, dass jemand anders für die Tatzeit kein Alibi hatte. Also bitte, ja!? Das entzieht sich völlig meiner Logik, denn außer dieser banalen Tatsache mit dem fehlenden Albibi gibt es nichts, was so ernsthaft gegen diesen zweiten Tatverdächtigen spricht, dass man den ersten gleich freilassen muss. Es wird nicht einmal näher untersucht, welche Indizien gegen den Verdächtigen Nr. 2 sprechen! Diese sehr konstruiert erscheinende “Wendung” in dem Fall ist eigentlich gar keine. Dramaturgisch gesehen erzeugt sie zwar im weiteren Handlungsverlauf wieder Spannung, war aber für mich bis zur Lächerlichkeit unglaubwürdig.

Ebenfalls unglaubwürdig war für mich die Hauptfigur Jessica, die das Massaker überlebt, aber durch dieses schreckliche Geschehen und die Verluste so gar nicht aus dem Gleichgwicht gebracht wird. Auch die übrigen Überlebenden waren für mich irgendwie “leblos” und kalt, jeder lebte sein Leben so weiter wie bisher – sorry, aber damit konnte ich mich nicht identifizieren. Insgesamt waren die Figuren alle sehr klischeehaft gezeichnet: Die starke, gute, zu allem eine Lösung anbietende Jessica. Die dicke Evelin, die sich nirgends durchsetzen kan. Die rebellische Teenietochter Ricarda. Beliebig erweiterbar! Die Charaktere werden im Grunde auch nicht “geformt” bzw anskizziert, sondern quasi mit der Holzhammermethode bis ins Detail ausgearbeitet und unter ständiger Wiederholung von Charaktereigenschaften in eine starre Form gepresst – vllt lässt gerade das sie so klischeehaft erscheinen.

Trotz der Klischees ein spannendes Buch, leider bin ich mit keiner der Personen richtig warm geworden, ich fand sie alle mehr oder weniger unglaubwürdig und überzeichnet.

I honestly wasn’t even gonna say anything about these horrible numbers that BISD is expected to put up, and I know he spoke on it in that Flex interview, but this quote he gave Meka for BET is hilarity:

“Well, the reports from Hits Daily Double,  I don’t actually know what to anticipate from the actual sales of this project,” 50 told BET. “It’s obvious, the project just came out a month earlier than what was actually anticipated.”

“The actual project is arguably my best work, to have the general public respond the way they’ve responded to it,” 50 continued. “I haven’t heard anything negative about my choices artistically, so if I was in the space where I absolutely needed finances from the actual sales of the record, it might mean something, but if it offers the material that I can go out and perform and make everyone enjoy themselves as much as I enjoyed myself making it, Ill be happy with it.”

What the!? Is “actual” the new “aggressive content”? Ninja, you actually didn’t sell any records and I believe that is actually referred to as an actual flop.

Be clear: I don’t give a fuck what Curtis sold. Some of my favorite rappers dropped albums this year that didn’t crack 100K, and I honestly think BISD is pretty decent, all things considered. And what the fuck does Curtis care, like he said, he’s rich anyway. It’s just hilarious to me to see somebody who has put so much stock in album sales and commercial performance rather than quality for so long, go quadruple styrofoam.

I might actually go back to calling him 50 Cent now. lol

Olá pessoal

Depois de doar o Blog pra outras pessoas e deixar isso aqui cheio de conteúdo sério, resolvi fazer um comeback  digno a lá “shaine” e inaugurar uma nova coluna para o Blog. Trata-se do Dossiê J, pois existem vários personagens, fatos e histórias japonesas que são desconhecidos da maioria das pessoas, o que farei será lembrar as pessoas do que aconteceu de um ponto de vista bem parcial e tendencioso.

Se você é um chato, um fanboy sem vida ou uma pessoa sem o menor senso de humor pare de ler aqui. (eu avisei hein!)

Enfim, como diz o nome do post, pra começar sempre há um primeiro passo; todos já foram noobs no que mais gostam de fazer? Tendo isso em mente nosso primeiro arquivo a ser estudado será a carreira indigna e cheia de insucesso e glamour??? de uma verdadeira Diva do jpop. Sim, ela, a linda, absoluta, maravilhosa STEPHANIE!!! Brinks ^^

Na falta de Crossfox e de personalidades do povão nós vamos ter que recorrer a nossa Stephanie do jpop, ela não faz covers escrotos de músicas da Avril lavigne e da Kelly Clarkson (morri quando ouvi isso O_O ) nem tem clipes com temas religiosos e etc. Mas a nossa Stephanie não fica muito pra traz em alguns aspectos.

Vamos a ficha da nossa personalidade do post.

Algo interessante desse profile é que ela realmente só tem um nome! Ou ela deve ter um nome muito vergonhoso ou os pais dela devem ter ficado tão decepcionados com a carreira dela que vetaram o nome da família de tanta exposição . Na verdade, por algum motivo ela prefere não revelar sua identidade de antes de ter debutado ¬¬, vai lá saber. Outro fato curioso é que ela é wannabe de artistas tão legais, e o fato dela nunca ter feito um cover deles é algo me causa alívio.

Falando sobre a família de Stephanie, ela tem uma mãe japonesa e um pai armênio-americano. cri cri cri

Aos 13 anos Stephanie descobriu que queria se tornar cantora, aos 14 ela mudou-se para a Califórnia e voltou aos 19 para debutar no Japão pela Sony Music Japan. Seu debut foi a música Kimi ga Iru Kagiri em março de 2007, o single continha ótimos tie-ins, sua b-side era tema de um programa japonês e a música principal foi utilizada num anime de batalhas aéreas chamado Kiss Dum: Engage Planet (que eu nunca tinha ouvido falar até agora) ela fez um PV para o single que se baseava em cromaqui com cenas do pôr-do-sol e um véu que na minha opinião só serve pra esconder o seu rosto leeendo .

Era fato que a voz e o timbre de Stephanie são algo muito raros para o Japão, mas qualquer pessoa acostumada com jpop sabe que talento é um mero detalhe nesse ramo. fikdik colega ^^

Mas se acham que viram algo estão enganados, o melhor desse single foram as capas e fotos de divulgação , acho que as imagens falam por si só.

Enfim, como podem ver as capas dos cds são um dos grandes pontos fortes de Stephanie, caras super animadoras e posições bem….  sugestivas a fazem ser uma das artistas cujas capas são mais “apreciaveis” no jpop. Um ponto que é visto pela maioria dos fãs é que todos falam “essa menina canta muito bem, mas ela é tão feia”, “nossa ela é tão estranha”, “De que planeta isso saiu?”. Brincadeiras a parte Stephanie é do tipo que tem orgulho de ser feia, e demontra isso no resto de sua discografia. Depois de tudo isso e de ser convidada como estreante pro Music Station, ela conseguiu a digníssima marca da 36º posição da oricon semanal e seu single vendeu no total 10 mil cópias =  flop , mas vamos dar um desconto, afinal essa menina canta bem e esta só comencando.

Em agosto do mesmo ano Stephanie deu seu mais novo tropeço passo na música japonesa com o single “Because of you” (eu falei que essa stephanie não ia plagiar a Kelly Clarkson? eu menti  ). A música é mais uma balada ending de animesong (do mesmo anime lá) e no PV podemos atestar que Stephanie sempre foi uma criança feinha e desgonçada, o clipe é um delírio orgásmico pra quem esta a procura de gifs, fikdik. O clipe é cheio de draminha da vida real da sthephanie que ninguem liga, e na outra parte do clipe é a Stephanie cantando num fundo preto em p&b com um holofote no fundo, ou seja tão dispensável que eu nem preciso mostrar. pra quem quiser ver clique aqui.

E por último e mais importante temos a cover do single que também dispensa quaisquer comentários sobre a beleza e o talento e poses de Stephanie como modelo, minha única opinião sobre ela é que ela é verde….

Sobre as vendas do single antes prefiro ressaltar que essa música era ending de anime e que ela contou com a 2º queda do raio ao ser convidada de novo pro Music Station, mesmo assim sua melhor posição com o single foi a 50º posição no top semanal da Oricon = FLOP.

No meio de tudo isso nem tudo é tão ruim, Stephanie estava na lista das melhores cantoras estreantes no 49th Japan Record Awards, junto com JYONGRI, ºC-ute e Satomi Takasugi (quem??) e, como era de se esperar, ela perdeu pro grupo do Hello! Projetc ºC-ute e teve que ver o Tsunku levar o trófeu pra casa dele.

Levantando a poeira nossa cara lançou no final do mesmo ano. Seu single natalino, “Winter Gold”, o clipe dessa música é MUITO ruim, odeio, não merece nem comentários sobre a locação única e reaproveitada do single anterior, clipe pobre e efeitos que não enganam nem uma criança de 3 aninhos. Por incrivel que pareça esse clipe tem duas versões,uma ruimzinha e outra boa. A capa do single continuou no mesmo estilo de antes, só que dessa vez conseguiram deixar ela menos feia. Quanto às vendas acho que se eu disser que esse single teve como melhor posição um 80º lugar e que vendeu SÓ 1,863 alguém acredita ¬¬ = FAIL

Depois desse Flop desconcertante o mais sensato seria Stephanie apelar logo e lançar logo seu álbum pra garantir pelo menos algumas cópias pra compensar o prejuízo do single anterior, mas Stephanie pediu forças a e suas preces foram atendidas, ela foi escolhida pra cantar outra ending de anime super famoso e  que tem vários fanboys otakus: Mobile Suit Gundam 00. Logo as chances de Flop eram 0% porque independentemente dela ou da Marli cantarem os encerramentos de Gundam, os otakus iam comprar de qualquer jeito. Como dava pra prever esse single foi um SU.CES.SO e foi através dele que Stephanie conseguiu um 8º lugar na Oricon com 31,201 cópias. Foi “A” única vez que ela conseguiu ter um release no top10 da oricon e também essa foi a melhor vendagem Ever dela, sem ser superada por nenhum single ou album até hoje. O clipe é um pouco acima do padrão dos clipes dela, a música é fodástica , a letra é linda e eu recomendo.

Nesse ponto Stephanie era linda, absoluta e maravilhosa, a moçoila tava podendo e em março de 2008 seu álbum já estava sendo lançado, com 6 músicas inéditas sem nenhum tie-in, porém embalada por um ótimo single. Stephanie flopou mas nem tanto. Sua melhor posição foi a 16º e vendeu no total 12,516. O album não teve nenhuma música que foi usada como divulgação ou que ganhou PV .

Pessoal, aqui termina o primeiro ciclo da emocionante história da Stephanie (alguem quer continuação???) e lembrando que se o post for comentado, o Dossiê J continua tirando a poeira dos fatos e personalidades mais aleatórias da música japonesa. Well it sure didn’t take long for another expected flip flop to occur on this White House Administration’s watch. This time it is on the issue of mammograms age guidelines as per the United States Preventive Services Task Force a tentacle of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Oh the irony!

I wonder when the illustrious 21 member panel of the U.S Preventive Services Task Force met in it’s entirety (1), what were the winning results of research to hatchet, the long standing recommendations, that have not completed 3 generations of observations to validate such rapid change, and when is the next scheduled meeting of the panel (2)?

Now really, who made this call?

SUMMARY: Section 931 of the Public Health Service Act (PHS Act), 42
U.S.C. 299c, established a National Advisory Council for Healthcare
Research and Quality (the Council). The Council is to advise the
Secretary of HHS (Secretary) and the Director of the Agency for
Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) on matters related to activities
of the Agency to improve the quality, safety, efficiency, and
effectiveness of health care for all Americans.
Seven current members’ terms will expire in November 2009. To fill
these positions in accordance with the legislative mandate establishing
the Council, we are seeking individuals who are distinguished: (1) In
the conduct of research, demonstration projects, and evaluations with
respect to health care; (2) in the fields of health care quality
research or health care improvement; (3) in the practice of medicine;
(4) in other health professions; (5) in representing the private health
care sector (including health plans, providers, and purchasers) or
administrators of health care delivery systems; (6) in the fields of
health care economics, information systems, law, ethics, business, or
public policy; and (7) in representing the interests of patients and
consumers of health care. Individuals are particularly sought with
experience and success in activities specified in the summary above.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: Section 931 of the PHS Act, 42 U.S.C. 299c,
provides that the Secretary shall appoint to the National Advisory
Council for Healthcare Research and Quality twenty-one appropriately
qualified individuals. At least seventeen members shall be
representatives of the public and at least one member shall be a
specialist in the rural aspects of one or more of the professions or
fields listed in the above summary. In addition, the Secretary
designates, as ex officio members, representatives from other Federal
agencies specified in the authorizing legislation, principally agencies
that conduct or support health care research, as well as Federal
officials the Secretary may consider appropriate. The Council meets in
the Washington, DC metropolitan area, generally in Rockville, Maryland,
approximately three times a year to provide broad guidance to the
Secretary and AHRQ’s Director on the direction of and programs
undertaken by AHRQ.
Seven individuals will be selected presently by the Secretary to
serve on the Council beginning with the meeting in the spring of 2010.
Members generally serve 3-year terms. Appointments are staggered to
permit an orderly rotation of membership.
Interested persons may nominate one or more qualified persons for
membership on the Council. Self-nominations are accepted. Nominations
shall include: (1) A copy of the nominee’s r[eacute]sum[eacute] or
curriculum vitae; and (2) a statement that the nominee is willing to
serve as a member of the Council. Selected candidates will be asked to
provide detailed information concerning their financial interests,
consultant positions and research grants and contracts, to permit
evaluation of possible sources of conflict of interest.
The Department seeks a broad geographic representation. In
addition, AHRQ conducts and supports research concerning priority
populations, which include: Low-income groups; minority groups; women;
children; the elderly; and individuals with special health care needs,
including individuals with disabilities and individuals who need
chronic care or end-of-life health care. See 42 U.S.C. 299(c).
Nominations of candidates with expertise in health care for these
priority populations are encouraged.

Dal 16 novembre Roma è ufficialmente la prima capitale Europea passata al digitale, nonché la prima senza televisione; si, perché con il segnale che passa dall’analogico al digitale, Adoc sta raccogliendo le lamentele dei romani in difficoltà: alcuni canali sono spariti e il segnale in molte zone e’ debole o inesistente. I primi a farne le spese sono gli anziani, che oltre a non capire la sintonizzazione dei canali e a scontrarsi con la moltiplicazione dei telecomandi in casa, non riconoscono e non ritrovano più i loro palinsesti televisivi. Dopo infiniti rimandi, il digitale terrestre incontra più difficoltà del previsto e che, alla fine, rischia di rivelarsi per quello che è: una tecnologia obsoleta, costosa, limitata. La Capitale e’ stata abbandonata a sé stessa. Il 25% dei televisori non ha ancora il decoder a causa della confusione che permane tutt’oggi su di essi: quelli comprati a minor prezzo non danno garanzie di affidabilità, alcuni non hanno nemmeno gli standard europei e quindi non riescono a captare le frequenze Vhf, su cui trasmette la Rai, la sintonizzazione dei canali non è semplice e molte antenne vanno sostituite o ri-orientate, e comunque liberate dei vecchi filtri. Marco Polizzi, presidente di PrimoConsumo, afferma: “L’avvento del Digitale Terrestre ha portato problemi di investimenti (impiantarlo costa: bisogna comprare nuove frequenze, alimentare i trasmettitori, programmare nuovi decoder interattivi…); problemi economici (per mantenere attivi i trasmettitori ci vuole un enorme impiego di energia in un paese dove l’energia si compra a caro prezzo; per i consumatori inoltre sono spese su spese: nuovi decoder, nuovi televisori, costi di antennisti, elettricisti, smaltimento rifiuti particolari…); problemi ecologici (l’abbandono dei vecchi televisori nei cassonetti o nei parchi, in aggiunta al già considerevole inquinamento elettromagnetico). Tutto ciò ha portato –fin’ora- solo all’aumento degli abbonamenti alle piattaforme digitali private, ma che ne è della famosa “TV più bella, più interattiva, a misura di telespettatore” che hanno promesso ai consumatori?

Flere virksomheder har de sidste år haft stor succes med virale reklamefilm, og for nogle reklamefolk er det da næsten også blevet svaret på alt. Massekommunikationen har måske mødt sin overmand, i takt med at der er opstået en idé om, at almindelige tv-reklamer og dyre reklameannoncer ikke fanger og fastholder os. En række kreative reklamefolk proklamerede derfor – virale film, det virker!

Floppet – historien om VisitDenmark
Alle der arbejder med kommunikation og reklame har vist efterhånden diskuteret det virale stunt med den enlige mor, der på YouTube eftersøgte faderen, af udenlandsk herkomst, til sit barn.

Hele historien viste sig at være løgn og blot et viralt markedsføringsstunt fra VisitDenmarks side – et markedsføringsstunt der skabte røre i de danske hjem, og som satte spørgsmålstegn ved virale markedsføringskampagner, som var baseret på direkte løgnehistorier.

Etik, troværdighed og tillid var blandt andet nogle af de begreber, som jeg sammen med andre kommunikationsinteresserede diskuterede. Er det f.eks. etisk uacceptabelt, at VisitDenmark brugte danske skattekroner til at markedsføre landet på en løgn? Hvad betyder et stunt som dette for Danmarks troværdighed? og vil VisitDenmark kunne genskabe tillid omkring organisationen efter den uheldige episode?

Spørgsmålet er også, om den virale reklame har virket i VisitDenmark regi. Flere danskere fulgte den kære ”Karen” i hendes jagt på faderen til hendes barn og involverede sig derfor følelsesmæssigt i hendes situation. Da det blev afsløret, at det hele blot var et mediestunt fra VisitDenmarks side, blev flere sympatisørers medfølelse i stedet vendt til vrede og skuffelse – ikke direkte mod ”Karen” men mod organisationen bag fupfilmen – VisitDenmark. Her kan man vist godt tale om en viral reklamestrategi, der tog en uheldig drejning og endte med at floppe efter afsløringen af historien som svindel og humbug.

I VisitDenmarks tilfælde kan det derfor være relevant at sætte spørgsmålstegn ved den virale kampagnes virkning, for når vi som mennesker føler os taget godt og grundigt ved næsen, påvirker det vores videre tiltro til organisationen og vores senere lydhørhed overfor organisationens budskaber?

Jeg synes ellers personligt, at virale film kan være rigtig effektive, men som alle andre markedsføringsredskaber og -budskaber skal de være gennemtænkte, og jeg må nok indrømme, at jeg i VisitDenmarks tilfælde kan have mine tvivl.

En succeshistorie med Evian
Animerede babyer på rulleskøjter til hip hop musik og street tema har til gengæld skabt vejen til viral succes for franske Evian, som er brandet bag den mest sete virale reklamefilm til dato.

Den virale reklamefilm, med blebørn der udfører diverse kunster på rulleskøjter, har sat rekord og er derfor nu blevet optaget i Guinness Book of Records. Huset Markedsføring oplyser at hele 45.166.109 millioner visninger, opgjort den 9. november 2009, skulle være årsagen til optagelsen i det berømte opslagsværk over verdensrekorder. Bureauet bag den virale succes er det franske BETC Euro RSCG.

Fra støj til underholdning
I dag vil vi som modtagere af budskaber underholdes og ikke forstyrres – det er måske grunden til de virale succeser. Hvis virksomheder skal have gang i denne måde at brande sig på, skal de derfor tænke utraditionelt og underholdningsværdi. Derudover er det væsentligt at appellere til modtagers følelesregister. Hvis vi tager eksemplet med Evian, så elsker vi jo alle spædbørn, og med en god portion humoristiske animerede features underholdes vi for alle pengene.

Den virale succes opstår oftest, når man sætter sig ind i de sociale relationer man har med sine kunder, og for at få en viral kampagne til at virke, skal man have influentials – dvs. mennesker med et stort netværk både offline og online, som vil sprede budskabet.

Jeg håber personligt, at flere virksomheder vil gøre Evian kunsten efter:-)

Dryland's a myth! Or is it...? (It's not. Spoiler alert.)

A trip down junior high memory lane has led me to do another Twice Baked Potatoes quickie review. This time I’m watching “Waterworld” starring Mr. Kevin Costner as the lead role, also known as The Mariner. The Mariner is along the lines of Mel Gibson’s Mad Max, although Costner plays him as a Dazed, Creepily Quiet Max. There are other actors in the film, but none of them matter whatsoever. Not even the little girl. Sorry. She’s little more than a plot device. The only other performance worth noting is Dennis Hopper as the villain. Hopper was enjoying his mid-90’s Renaissance, where he was more or less doing variations on his performances in “Speed” and “True Romance”. Walleyed heroism versus wily psychosis. Great. Casting. All. Around. Extra special shoutout to awesome that-guy actor Kim Coates as the coolest pseudo-Irish, would-be rapist pirate this side of The Atoll.

To the film’s credit, every cent of the $180 Million price tag shows up on screen. Yet for all that money, would it have killed the production designer to splash on some more colors other than various shades of fecal brown and rust red? Every single room looks like a serial killer’s cleanup shack after it’s been wiped down for evidence. Costner’s sleepwalker acting choices actually fit the film in that respect: Expensive, intentional, and completely boring.

The action, thankfully, is the best part. The setpieces are large and dynamic, chock full of explosions, goop, and blood. More goop than blood. I also appreciate that there are a lot of sets and practical effects. Today, adjusted for quality, this film would have been a CGI cheapfest and most likely have been a SyFy channel clunker starring Lorenzo Lamas. The film also doesn’t waste time with logic. It challenges you to accept the world it’s presenting, and there are so many questions that could be asked, but why bother? It’s an B-action flick masquerading as a summer sci-fi epic. I can forgive the illogics, but where did they get all of the bullets? What about the airplane? Airplane fuel? These things take real science, not just welding torches. I’m just saying.

If this flick is on during late night, it’s not a bad way to spend the hours between 2am and 4am. I just hope that the sequel is called “Desertworld”. You think I’m crazy? They’ll make a sequel to anything. Anything. Just give it 10 more years. 15 tops.

This is what happens when you aim to sound good but have competition in your mind. I’m guessing because she’s singing Sarah Geronimo’s song, she wanted to give it more. Then that happened. I still love her, just hope she doesn’t try to out do herself  ’cause she already sounds great.

A wise man once told me the top ten things to pack before I leave on an “adventure”. I remember thinking: “That’s great for you, but what about me”?. That really hit home about the fact that there are the essentials out there to pack….. But everyone is different and some things are more important to others.The new backpacking generation is all about facebook, laptops and i-phones. Things have certainly changed.

This week I take a look at what ’s important to me (in no particular order) as I plan my trip to India in January. It’s been a while since I have properly gone through these motions so it’s nice to see how rusty my memory actually is. Gosh, I really am getting old :-p

1. Medication/first aid kit.

Although not the most “convenient” thing to carry it’s definitely one of the more essential things. Find out before you take off what the perils and pitfalls are at your desired destination. Fevers, perisites and viruses are all out there and all it takes is something small to trigger off a painful and inconvenient illness that will certainly wreck your plans. As the scouts say “be prepared”.

2. Postcards from your home town.

Great thing to leave with new friends and fellow travellers as a reference to your chance meeting and experience together, as well as great piece of paper to leave your email address and a nice note.

3. Camera.

Yes, an obvious one….. But there’s nothing worse than not having a camera when you need one most. Memories etched in time.

4. Travel journal.

One of my biggest regrets is not being thorough enough with my old travel journals. I would start off with the world’s greatest intentions only for them to fizz out after about a week or 2. I can tell you now that one of the best things you can do is read over your old journals after a year a couple of years.

5. A pen.

Laugh at your will, but how many times have you searched long and hard for a pen when you need one. Enough said.

6. Plastic bags.

Anything wet, dirty, smelly or spillable can also make your life incredibly difficult while on the road. With a few plastic bags to divide everything evenly and as far away from your nice clean clothes as possible.

7. Insurance.

We are not invincible. Within 2 seconds your life can change and wih that a good travel insurance policy should not even be up for discussion. A policy that covers everything from health to theft is the way to go-but make sure you look at excess fees and claim fees. I once insured my ipod and after it was stolen it was going to cost me pretty much the same amount to claim it as it did when I bought it. Loopholes with not paying for tickets if flights are missed are also a big thing to look out for.

8. Credit card.

This is a girl’s best friend…. But it’s also one of the greatest things to have in your pocket when travelling. I cannot tell you have many times it has saved my bacon so to speak.  Stolen money, last minute plane tickets,- you name it!

9. Passport photos.

Anyone who has crossed many a border can tell you that these are well worth the money. I have seen many a person turned away at the border for not having any and at 3am don’t expect to find a photo shop open.

10. Flip flops.

First thing in the morning-these are the first things you look for. In the heat they are your best friend and in the shower-even better as they save you from all the lovely funghi that beautiful backpackers bring.
