Sometimes while shopping at G-dub, you just get lucky. And as I am currently hobbling arround on crutches, I don’t have time to spare while shopping. That good leg gets tired fast. And it didn’t take me long to find these gems.

This is a fun, flirty tank by Helium, half off of 3.99 because it was the ‘color of the week’, for a mere 2.00. 2.00 for fabulous? I say why not!

This, also half off and the color of the week for 2.00, less than the cost of my cherished starbucks iced coffees, which I can not wear…is by Kyra. And becaue I am an avid T.J. Maxx shopper…I won’t give the price this would be at the department store (because who really pays those prices anyway??) I’ll say what I’m pretty sure good ol’ T.J.’s or Marshall’s would ask for it, probably 12.99-16.99, that is a minimum discount of….

85%!!!

Find me an 85% off sale at a store near you, and I’ll stop drinking Iced Coffees for ONE week.

Ok, now to prove I am capable of buying clothing WITHOUT flowers on them….

This night out shirt, I found on my way out of the store (the best kind of finds) for $3.99. I splurged and paid full price:) I love the tuxedo ruffles cascading down the front. I can’t wait for my next evening out to show this number off. And no cardigan needed, because we all know, females can wear next to nothing in winter, and walk around as if that biting 35 degrees doesn’t bother us, right??? I wish :/ However, I do have a cute cropped brown learther jacket that will layer perfectly over it, with some skinny jeans (that I will be able to wear again in five weeks when I get this boot of a cast off my left foot) and heels, and I’ve got myself my next night out outfit.

These three pieces put me back a whopping $7.99. Is your mouth open yet? I thought so.

I actually found about seven other items I wanted to buy- one that I did and I will share at a later time, but had to pass up the other six as I can’t currently work because of a broken ankle; so I need to cut back somewhere. No income = me not buying out Goodwill every week. Sad face. I still managed to do okay.

But that doesn’t mean you should have to lose out! Let me fill you in. Two of the finds I didn’t buy were J. Crew cardigans, 9.99 a piece! J would be appalled. (You know, J, the person who started J. Crew …) One was shorter and a nice bright yellowish green, and one was a longer white cardigan with ruffles along the chest. I also found an Ann Taylor Loft short sleeve yellow blouse with eyelets for 5.99, and an H&M peasant top, with flowers on it, for 3.99. All these prices are amazing, and would have made me a very happy girl, but they do add up.

I’m a very happy little bunny today after picking up a few bargains whilst out shopping!

I also tackled the monstrous M25 today which was very stressful and I decided I should treat myself to some retail therapy!

I went out today wearing my awesome skull Tee which I loved too much to hang up this morning. I also wore my red high waisted shorts from River Island. My bargains!

This snood was only £4 from Primark! I can’t wait for it to get really cold so I can snuggle up in it!

My other bargain was this faux leather skirt from River Island! It’s selling out everywhere so I’ve been trying to find it anywhere possible and today I was successful! However they only had this one in my size and it had a little mark on it (which can’t be seen when the skirt is on), so they gave me £5 discount! In future I shall always point out any marks on clothes in the hope of getting a discount!

My new top is amazing, if I do say so myself. It’s from ebay and I found it by pure chance! I was just simply bored and cruising ebay and stumbled on it :’D

On another note the moles on my neck look like piercings! That’s so cool. 

I really wanted a black flared skirt instead of this blue one but I don’t own one therefore I had to compromise. I still think it looks pretty cool! It’s from River Island and I paired the outfit with biker boots and a leather jacket. 

My outfit for the pub! I just swapped my skirt for jeans Nothing was making me take my awesome top off tonight.

This is just because I’m vain.

One can often see  examples of such case studies in the papers and magazines.  In fact, this is a common writing device that journalists and writers employ to start their articles. As the world tightens its grips and fascination with storytelling, the art of storytelling has regrettably, been turned into a science.

While there’s nothing wrong with scientific pursuits, scientific endeavours tend to be formulaic. However, its easy usage in real life applications (think decimals, fractions. percentages, angles etc) due to its structured and rigid formula secures its place and position in society as the primary tool to drive the world’s progress. Nevertheless, there are some domains which science should never intrude and seek to subvert, one of which lies in the arenas of the Arts.

Look at storytelling.

The essence of storytelling lies in one’s ability to imagine, to fantasise, to engage in a dance of emotions. When such arts are relegated to factual reporting or used as case studies for various societal trends or phenomenons, storytelling loses its shine as a tool to inspire and engage. This is not to put down storytelling devices in editorial and journalistic works but rather, a call for writers and journalists to improvise on their writings, to not use storytelling as simply a hook for readers but more as an emotional tool to engage them on a deeper intellectual level that transcends mere academic intelligence.

Look at photography.

If one were to enroll in a photography class, we usually see most of the students lamenting at the tons of technicalities (such as the delicate balance between shutter speed, aperture and ISO)  that one has to plough through, save for the few who are technically-inclined.  And notice how lessons on compositions brighten these students up. All these observation only serve to reinforce the fact that photography is ultimately an artistic dance between the observed and the observe, the noticed and the noticing, the light and the shadows. Science should not intrude into such domains with artificially constructed tools such as the Golden Ration and the Rules of Third. The fact that photos are still able to stand out despite the flouting of these rules bears testament that photography can still stand on the main pillars of  Arts, even if the buttresses of the Sciences are removed. The latter are merely scaffolding that can be discarded.

An interesting highlight will be photos of Henri Cartier-Bresson, whose trademark images seem to be captured at the precise moment. And while these photos adhere to technical specifications at times, the way that the photos are taken seems to imply that intuitive guidance plays a stronger hand.

Nevertheless, I have to admit that in recent years, photo-imaging programmes (such as www.pixlr.com) have – more often than not – provided the finishing touches on an otherwise near-perfect photo.

Not everything in life can be made possible with science. There are areas where the reign of the Arts – or even a subtle infusion of them-  will enable the images to stand out. A delicate balance should be maintained between the Sciences and the Arts, a balance which should never have been tipped.

A primary reason why sciences are highly emphasised in society – besides the credibility it establishes and the consistency of results that it offers –  is because they often generate products and services that can be sold for profit. And what makes Sciences so alluring is the fact that it is an actor who plays many parts. Besides contributing to the main profit mechanism of an organisation (such as the machines that print books in publishing firms and the various transports that enable one to move from one part of town to another for a fee, of course), the sciences also provide support on the periphery of businesses(such as computers to surf the Internet and emails to communicate), thereby enhancing human communications (but not human relations, regrettably) and facilitating business transactions. Thus, the sciences are often especially embraced with lovely, tight hugs in capitalist societies.

All these are well and good. The sciences have their angelic sides. Medical advances have extended human lifespan and prevent/cure many ails of humans. They have enabled one to travel around the world (well, if one is rich enough, that is). It boosts businesses and gets the economy moving (which means generating jobs, a current and recurring issue in modern times). And not forgetting the fact that it has hastened the process of food preparation, thereby enabling food preparation time to be shortened and the quantity produced to increase.

Nevertheless, in the midst of scientific advancement and progress, let us not lose sight of what the Arts had to offer. Because life is not merely made up of formulas and numbers, algorithms and hypotheses. Life is also about poetry and dances, songs and creative choreography, literature and plays (elements that are intricately linked to spirituality – a eroding values in modern times).

This is the reason why Science should never have infringed on the Arts, since the former leverages on logic and reason while the latter derives its inspirations from the more imaginary, flowery, emotional and intuitive world.

The sciences have the ability to structure and expand, while the arts have the power to uplift the human soul and propel us into a higher level of consciousness.

It’s the delicate balance of the two that creates the equilibrium which in turn completes the world.

The benefit of being able to drive you ask? You get stuck in traffic for an hour…

Today was not a good day for me, I was rained on, late to class due to only having 10 minutes for lunch and I got stuck in a load of traffic. I also discovered way more about Manchester United than I ever wanted to know (Why did I take up business?).

I decided to just leave my hair natural today since it would end up resembling a bush by the end of the day with all the rain. 

My tee is from Mango and my jeans are from Primark, I always have to have one item of clothing from primark in my outfit. My outfit from yesterday! My big snuggly jumper :’) There’s nothing better than a fleece jumper to hide away in on a cold, rainy day.

I’d stolen this playsuit from my nan’s wardrobe a little while ago and after taking out the shoulder pads it looked fab! It’s a shame the shoulder pads were huge and made the playsuit swamp me as it would have looked super cool with them still intact! 

I love the pattern on this playsuit! It’s so old fashioned, it’s adorable :’)

Unfortunately it’s missing a button however luck is on my side as said button was once underneath the belt The belt helpfully saved me from exposing my belly button to the world today. 

I love the way this playsuit pulls in at the waist!

Although the belt keeps undoing so I am going to have to search through all the antique shops nearby to find a brooch that will do this outfit justice and to keep the belt from driving me insane. 

I apologise for my pout in this picture…

Here is the cake I made for my youngest Granddaughter’s 1st Birthday

Ingredients for the cake

175g butter, room temperature

175g caster sugar

3 eggs

175g self raising flour

Filling for the cake

55g butter, room temperature

30ml milk

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

250g icing sugar

To decorate the cake

1 Tbsp apricot jam

500g ready to roll fondant

Method

Preheat oven to 180C/gas mark 4.

Line 2 20cm/8ins sponge tins with baking parchment.

Cream the butter and sugar together until the mixture is pale in colour, light and fluffy.

Add the egg a little at a time, beating well after each addition.

Sift the flour a and add to the mixture, beat well.

Divide the mixture between the tins and smooth the tops over.

Bake for about 25 minutes until well risen and golden brown.

Remove from the oven and leave to cool in the tins for 5 minutes before removing and placing on a wire rack to cool completely.

While they are cooling make the butter cream.

Beat the butter, milk, vanilla extract and half the icing sugar until smooth. Gradually add the rest of the icing sugar and continue beating until the butter cream is smooth and creamy.

When the cake is cold, spread one with the jam, the other with the butter cream and sandwich together.

Knead the ready to roll fondant to soften it.

Roll out until it’s slightly larger than the cake. Heat the jam in the microwave for about 30 seconds and brush over the top of the cake, then place the rolled out fondant in place on the cake and smooth over to make sure there are no air bubbles underneath it.

You can then add whatever decorations you like. I used two different sized flower blossom plunger cutters. Attached the larger ones on top of the cake and the smaller ones around the side. To attach them I used a small dab of water then held each one in place for a few seconds. Then coloured a small amount of icing sugar yellow for the larger flowers on the top of the cake.

For this design I used Rimmel London ’60 Seconds Pompous’ on my thumb, middle finger and baby finger and Models Own ‘Disco Mix’ on the other two fingers. I then used Models Own Nail art pens to do the dragonfly, dots and flowers and added some Rimmel London ‘Disco Ball’ to the dragonfly wings for extra sparkle!
