At the October Council meeting, Labour Councillor Jim Moher (Fryent ward) asked the following question:

What are the monthly rates for special collections since April 2006, and what reasons can the Administration give for the sudden decline in such collections in July/August 2007?

Councillor Moher has received a reply from the Lead Member for Environment, Planning and Culture, Cllr Irwin Van Colle, which confirms the decline and baldy states that the reason for the decline is the introduction of the charge for special collections. If you would like to see the full figures, email me on krupesh@bclabour.org.uk

Labour’s spokesperson for Environment, Planning & Culture, Councillor James Powney, welcomed Cllr Van Colle’s honesty, which is in sharp contrast to the Lib Dem refusal to admit that the £25.00 charge for bulky refuse – the ‘Dumpers Charter’ - has caused an epidemic in dumping.

Councillor Powney said:

“I am grateful to Cllr Van Colle for admitting that the number of special collections has fallen as a result of the introduction of the ‘Dumpers’ Charter’. That is what I have been saying all along. Now perhaps he will change the policy he admits has failed”.

I’ve just come back from talking to residents on Yewfield Road where crime was an issue that featured prominantly on residents’ minds. Also apparant were the issue of dumping and fly-tipping which was visible on the road today with a mattress that had been left there on the pavement for days.

What is even more alarming is that a Liberal Democrat Councillor lives on this road!

Problems of fly-tipping have been horrific in Brent since the Lib Dems introduced the bulky items charge of £25. The Brent Labour Group have already pledged to remove this charge if we regain control of the Council next year.

OMFG WTF swear to me this country has gone FUCKING MENTAL WTF is with these shitty wheelie bins what

OMFG WTF

swear to me this country has gone FUCKING MENTAL

WTF is with these shitty wheelie bins

what kind of molested twisted mind came up with this fucking shit, cause they deserve to die

via having wheelie bins thrown at them till they die

then pissed on and set alight

this is… we now have 3 wheelie bins

green/grey = general waste

brown = garden/kitchen food waste

blue= recyclable

ok, the blue one is fine, infact we used to have a little box for our recyclable which was FINE

it’s actually the introduction of this third bin, and some fucking stupid crazy rules to ruin the first 2

so now we cant use bin bags because we cant MIX this shit together

so now ALL bins in the area are rendered fucking obsolete tbh

the brown bin… we have to put FOOD waste DIRECTLY into it unless we buy a certain grade of degradable bags, which are the size of a SMALL carrier bag and dissolve if wet…

now let’s think about what they are proposing here… if we dont have these bags… we have to scrape plates STRAIGHT INTO THE FUCKING WHEELIE BIN

i.e after dinner you left some food… you now have to go outside and tip your food into your wheelie bin, cause im SURE this wont attract foxes and rats at all

i.e… again… you pick up your animals shit off your garden … cause you dont want fucking animal shit everywhere… again if you dont buy these TINY bags and boxes for the bags… it goes STRAIGHT INTO YOUR WHEELIE BIN

what ?!

REALLY?!

yes… STRAIGHT in… UN-BAGGED SHIT STRAIGHT INTO YOUR BIN

this wont smell at all

dont worry, im sure its fine

WTF CUNTS GET RAPED

and now the blue bin, which turned from a nice gesture “we gonna make it easy to recycle and give you these” into cunts, due to needing to wash everything… TIN FOIL

WHY WOULD I WASH TIN FOIL

THATS THE IDEA OF USING IT… TO STOP MY STUFF GETTING DIRTY AND NEEDING WASHING YOU RETARD!!!

so now this complicates EVERYTHING

let me give you some examples…

i drink coke… in bottles…YAY… easy… drink, then throw bottle away

right?

wrong !

i now have to drink… then go down stairs wash the bottle crush* it, go outside, put the bottle in the blue bin and the lid in the green… WTF

we had mcdonalds the other night, this also isnt as straight forward as it should be

cardboard packaging- blue bin

cups/lids/straws… WASHED, then into green bin due to the treatment on the cups (we think :S)

the SAUCE pot had to be WASHED OUT then thrown into the green bin

some CHIPS were left, they had to go into the brown bin, all in all there were 3 of us outside getting rid of our rubbish for about 5 mins cause we couldnt decide what bins things went in

was i right to say the cups cant be recycled? BOLLOCKS KNOWS and tbh i dont give a fuck

we dont get a CHOICE to have these 3 massive wheelie bins… they didnt say “we shall make you pay less tax because we havent got to do it now” or “you can pay the same and not do it, or do it and pay less”

WHY THE FUCKING HELL ARE WE STILL PAYING THE SAME AMOUNT AND YET ALSO DOING THEIR FUCKING JOB AT THE SAME TIME

WTF

this is probably THE most ridiculous shit ive heard of in such a long time…

we got given a fucking PACK with separate sheets to tell us what we can and cant do with these bins… these are laminated and hanging up by our back door due to the fact they are fucking complicated we cant remember shit and we need them to keep referencing to

and i know your probably thinking… “just dont do it” but then they fine us and stop taking our bins

im quite lucky i got a decent sized garden and a side passage we can take them down… alot of people here dont… and so they have to wheel them THROUGH THEIR HOUSE due to the fact they take up their driveways/front gardens

there IS an answer… specially since i live in tilbury anyway which is a massive shithole

and it is…

drumroll

THROW IT INTO THE STREET !!!!

yes thats right, now although i WAS against this sort of behaviour, now i just think FUCK it

maybe i dont WANT to wash out my coke bottle and separate the parts into your fucking bins… so what i shall do is simply throw them wherever i want thats away from my house so it’s not associated with me

this might go for everything tbh, the bin in my room… only uses a carrier bag, but i cant do that now… so what i CAN do… is when its full, tie the bag up, on my way to work in the morning, throw the bag onto the field by the park

this saves me a lot of hassle, and also means when the counsel have to keep collecting big piles of rubbish… ill get my moneys worth for that bit they are STEALING for a job IM doing for them

ill collect massive bags of dog shit and throw them onto the pile also

in fact… EVERYONE should fucking do it just so you realise what fucking retarded cunts you are and just put it back to how it was

when i used to get pissed and walk home eating a kebab… i put my rubbish into someone else wheelie bin so it wasnt on the floor inconveniencing people… well FUCK YOU

im not gonna separate it, but at the same time i dont want to get these people into trouble and get them charged cause im not a cunt like you, so what i WILL do… is throw it on the floor, into the road obviously, not a foot path, so enjoy sending out your fucking shitty litter picks to pick up my food from the floor just because of your lazy ignorance

seriously, you need to just be put into 1 of these fucking bins, sealed in there (with a hole so you can breath… but people will shit through the hole so it’s still not a good thing) then just before you die from hunger, we shall burn the bin with u in it, a nice slow heat i think so you dont just go up in flames and die, but so the bin melts to your skin and you survive with the pain for a while before the flames put you outta your misery

YOU

FUCKING

TOSSERS

* im defiantly not crushing anything, whatever your policy is you fucking inbreds

During one of our recent visits, residents commented that often people dump garbage at the top of Berkley Grove next to the green bin. As a result the area always doesn’t look as nice as it could do. One resident even said that the place is used for fly-tipping old furniture and appliances.

We’ll be on to the council to get better monitoring and enforcement around this particular bin. Also, we’ll look into whether a sign can be put up to deter people from doing this. If you have any ideas on this, please get in touch with Ben Greening on 07792 562 977 or email benedictgreening@googlemail.com

If what we discovered in the woods yesterday is anything to go by then the answer to this is no!! I

If what we discovered in the woods yesterday is anything to go by then the answer to this is no!! It’s over half a mile from our farm house to one part of our Ancient Woodland over a very steep field and across a stream. There is no house anywhere near it and never has been. Neighbouring properties are even further than our own house. And yet, wandering through a part of the wood we rarely go in without a good cause, we came across quantities of glass and tinware poking through soil. A small streamlet runs around and through it and has probably exposed much of it over the previous three appalling summers.

This is part of the site.

It’s full of broken glass and rusting metal. From the age of the few complete bottles and other oddments it looks like a Victorian and early 20th century dump although why on earth anyone should bring all their rubbish quite so far from the houses that were here is a complete mystery to us. There were much easier places to dump it!!

Here are some of the things we have found so far. Victorian lemonade bottles, animal medicine bottles, part of a ceramic hot water bottle and an old gin trap. We shall continue to dig and clear a bit since the broken glass lying about there is a huge hazard both the wildlife and to Len who comes and shoots deer in those woods occasionally.

A Bracknell Forest resident has been prosecuted for dumping rubbish at a local recycling facility.

Bracknell Magistrates court found Stephen Green, of Binfield Road, guilty of leaving 2 black bags of rubbish at the Lark Hill recycling site in Quelm Park on 8th October 2008.

Despite being advised by Mr Simon Fisher, an employee of SITA one of the council’s approved waste contractors, that fly tipping is illegal, Mr Green was found guilty of leaving the sacks of green waste. The court heard that Mr Fisher advised the accused of the correct procedure for lawful disposing of rubbish when he saw him leaving the bags at 8.30am whilst cleaning the area.

Stephen Green, who pleaded not guilty, said he was taking his children to school at the time and is now considering an appeal against the conviction. Mr Green was fined £400 and ordered to pay total costs of £540 together with a victim surcharge of £15.

Cllr Mrs Dorothy Hayes, executive member for the environment, said: “This prosecution and the issue of fixed penalty notices should send a strong signal that we take a serious view of the problems caused by those who dump rubbish in the borough and we are taking effective action to reduce the problem of fly-tipping and thereby the substantial clean-up cost to the law abiding council tax payer.

“Illegal rubbish dumping is a blight on the environment and we will pursue people who break the law.”

The council has also served 19 fixed penalty notices to other fly-tippers since the beginning of the year and 3 people have received cautions for fly tipping.

Residents reported an increase in the instances of fly tipping following the introduction of a charge for the ERIC service (which all Conservative councillors opposed) and we will be raising these issues with council officers.

Everyone likes the environment. If you dislike the environment, you’re a terrible person. I’m sorry, but that’s accepted wisdom. That’s why it’s nice to see some solar-powered CCTV getting in on the anti-fly-tipping action. Green power!

And we’ve got some advice from those friendly people at the NSI on avoiding household burglary. The story is accompanied by a photo of an actual burglar in action stealing a set of keys! If only the photographer had shown some crimefighting nous and slammed the window on the burglar’s arm.

Also today, Security Installer editor Alan Hyder swoops low and deposits his metaphorical opinion load on the burning forest of security issues (also metaphorical) in his SI Editor’s View. This week he argues that the time may have come for security firms to use increasing crime figures as a marketing tool for their services.

And please, whatever you do, make sure you get yourself registered for our HD and IP CCTV webinar. It’s not only high-tech, it’s downright educational.

Ahoy hoy hoy: www.info4security.com, then www.ifsec.co.uk, then off for a nice cup of tea.

The Environment Agency estimate that each year 100,000 tonnes of waste vegetable oil is disposed of illegally by fly-tipping and via drains in the UK. In it’s liquid form this may seem harmless however as it cools it congeals and hardens to the inside of pipes restricting water flow and ultimately causing a blockage. This is causing millions of pounds worth of damage to our sewage systems and also polluting water sources.

Wirral council has a removal service for old furniture and white goods called ERIC – it’

Wirral council has a removal service for old furniture and white goods called ERIC – it’s an acronym, but I’ve no idea what it means – and it’s almost always been free. If memory serves they did flirt with the idea of charging a few years ago, but abandoned it.

From April 1st , though there’s been a charge of £20. Not per wagon-load, or even per collection, but per item! That is insane and totally unjustifiable. It’s nothing but blatant profiteering.

Note:- I was misinformed – the charge is £20 per visit, maximum six items. A recipe for conflict in a multi-occupancy building, like the sheltered scheme where I live. Full ERIC info here.

I have some old furniture I need to get rid of – just 3 items. Well, actually one piece is a dresser, which knocks down into 3 pieces, making 5 actual items, unless I reassemble the thing once I’ve moved it out of my flat – do they seriously expect me to pay £200 for the privilege of having it all hauled away? Never gonna happen.

If I had that sort of money, which I don’t, I wouldn’t pay it. I’d sooner dismantle it all, and feed it into the refuse bins (we have large, skip-like bins here), a bit at a time. I have no objection to paying, per se – £20 per collection maybe – but this is just a rip-off.

There’s only going to be one result of this charge – a massive increase in fly-tipping – and I, for one, will condemn nobody for doing so. And who will have to foot the bill for clearing it away? Yep, Wirral council, and serves the greedy bastards right, they brought it upon themselves. Of course, indirectly the council taxpayers foot the bill, so come election time next month, they might want to consider just which councillors voted for this, and which against, and express their disapproval at the ballot box.

If you’ve ever moved house you’ll know how hard it is to move a mattress.I think they are my chief hate moving object.

They’re heavy, squashy (but not enough so that they bend round stairs) and generally a pain in the arse to lift. Two people isn’t enough. Three people is too many.

But why do they end up in the street?

Who is it that thinks it’s okay to leave a mattress in a street? It’s so not cool. So un-okay.

When do they do it, at night? If there are 2 people, which a mattress of this size warrants, doesn’t one of them think ‘hey.. this is uncool. We shouldn’t do this?’

Why is it placed here, on the corner of two roads? Do the same two people have a debate about how far away from the house they need to be? Because the object of dumping it is to avoid lots of effort right?

Does the perpetrator live within a certain distance because the thing is so damn heavy? Do they think ‘Well, if I dump too near, Neighbour X will know it was me because they’ll see the delivery from John Lewis’.

If i were to study all mattress dumpings and their origin, would I find that when people dump them, there is a trend that shows people struggle with a heavy, squashy double mattress for an average distance of 200m from the point of origin but 500m with a single.?

This baffles me.

Why is it that it’s okay to dump fridges, tvs and mattresses in the street? The occasional washing machine or oven but not dining room tables? Or baths?
