Man erstellt seinen eigenen Charakter mit Geschlecht, Haarfarbe und Augenform. Danach startet man als Vagrant durch und bekämpft lila Fledermäuse, hungrige Wölfe, seltsame Pflanzen und anderes Ungetier.

Ab Stufe 15 kann man sich für eine andere Klasse entscheiden. Dabei stehen zur Auswahl:

Mercenary (Merc): Nahkampfklasse

Maybe it’s just me, but I have a rather obsessive personality. When I find something I enjoy, I throw myself into it hardcore. It’s worked well for me…. Sort of. Inevitably, I can end up burning myself out by doing something too much, at which point I quit cold turkey.

No, my car hobby isn’t dying on me. I’m definitely into cars for much longer than some “fad” hobby of mine. I’ve invested a lot of time and money into my cars, and I still enjoy them regularly. However, I’m wondering if I have enough room for my newly revived hobby…

Mindless time is fun. And relaxing.

I almost always have something on my mind and a huge mental to-do list. Sadly, it isn’t always nice to me. I end up stressed and swear I can’t find the time to relax, because even when I sit down to watch a show or to write, I’m thinking about other things too.

What I needed was something that was mentally stimulating. Something that held my attention, but also required concentration. Something that didn’t always feel like a waste of time or take up too much of my time.

Enter video games.

Well, one game in particular… The MMORPG Flyff.

It was a huge addiction of mine a couple of years ago. While my husband still lived in England, it was a way for us to spend hours talking without tying up phone lines and spending hundreds of dollars to do so. It’s a free game, in the sense that it’s free to download and there’s no monthly fee… But if you want to get anywhere in game, you really end up spending some money. It’s nice because you can control it, if you don’t go overboard.

I know we went overboard. Bad. But I can’t feel guilty, because the time has been nice…. Money well spent to me.

I’m just worried it’s going to start eating dollars on me again.

Okay….? And…?

I’m sure the point of this is unclear right now, so let me clear the mud — I’m worried that I’ll start concentrating too much on my online game and not my cars. I’m worried that it’ll start eating my money and that I won’t be putting it towards my cars anymore like I wanted.

Probably silly, since, so far, I’ve been good. I limit the amount of time I play. I set tiny goals, achieve them, and then feel okay logging out. I’m not about to embark on marathon grinding sessions anymore… And it’s freeing. I remember quitting because it took forever to get anywhere in the game, and I was only halfway through all possible levels. Ugh!

But now I remember something else about games…

They’re for fun.

Huh, I seem to have forgotten about that before. It’s fun, just pure, mindless, relaxing fun. I can stay up later than I would otherwise, but wake up feeling better because I relaxed and got my mind off the stressful stuff. Funny how that works, it’s a tiny bright spot in my day.

Moderation in all things.

As long as I keep it in moderation, it should be a nice compliment to my life. It’s good fun, and at the moment, I have no desire to spend any money on playing… I’m sure I will, but that’ll be okay, as long as I don’t get crazy with it.

The thing is, I needed something like this. Cars are awesome and my favorite hobby… But they’re a huge expense, and I’m not always going to be able to do car stuff. I’d be broke otherwise, for sure! Instead, I have something for me to chill out, relax and still feel like I can get something done.

Oh, and if you’re the type who likes MMORPG’s or would like to try one, I think Flyff is great. (I’ve also gotten bit by that damn Farmville bug on Facebook…. But hey, at least that one’s free!! No risk of spending there!)

Che aspettate a iscrivervi?

I was looking for a new MMORPG to play recently and I realized something terrible.

All the good ones either wanted you to pay a monthly fee or to dish out a lot of money in order to function even a little.

Now, I’m willing to pay money for a MMORPG. But a monthly fee to have access to the game, or money to make my character have a different hue hair color? No thank you.

So, here’s what I’m looking for in an MMORPG:

It’s Free. No dishing out money monthly to pay or download it, no one time fee. By all means, have extras like special pets, special steeds, or interesting clothing. But fighting well in the game should rely purely on stats from the character, armor, steeds, and pets.

Customization should be expansive. If I want to make a fat blue-skinned elf, I should be able to. If I want to give my character pink hair, I should be able to. Take a hint from Perfect World on this one. Customization is a wonderful and good thing. It allows the player to get into character.

Great graphics are demanded. I don’t care if this is a 2D MMORPG or a 3D MMORPG, I want good graphics. I don’t want to stare at poorly modeled figures. I either want to stare at something cartoony (Fiesta Online, Mabinogi, MapleStory, WonderKing) or something realistic (Perfect World).

Multiple races to keep up variety. By all means, make the only choices Human, Elf, and Troll. I’d be fine with that. But I want various races. I should be able to customize my character, my toon, as much as I feel I want to. If I want to be a troll cleric, human archer, or elf fighter, those should be choices available to me.

Character stats should adhere to a specific system. What I mean by this is that Humans, Elves, and Trolls should all have a different range of base stats (trolls having 7 – 10 strength, humans having 5 – 7 strength, elves having 3 – 5 strength, so on and so forth). However, you should be given X number of “free stats” to distribute as you please BEFORE you get into the game. Once in the game, at every level you should be able to decide where to put extra “free stats”. These stats should help decide your physical attack, magical attack, physical defense, magical defense, attack speed, character speed on land, character speed in water, character speed in flight, character speed in climbing, and character speed in performing material-making tasks.

Monsters around your level shouldn’t take more than 30 seconds to kill. Everyone wants to reach a high level and get a sense of accomplishment. If you think I’m going to grind for what feels like an infinity to gain a single level before I even get my first advancement, you have another thing coming (a problem with Flyff that I had, but oddly, not Fiesta Online!).

Land, Sea, and Sky. On land, you should be able to run, climb, and jump. In the water, you should be able to swim. In the air, you should be able to ascend, descend, or keep level. A good MMORPG will cover all of these.

An interesting, tiered class system. In my opinion, all MMORPGs should include at least Mages, Fighters, Archers, and Clerics, or a variant thereof. I am still searching for an MMORPG that incorporates all four of these in a way that is unique and different, such as maybe starting out as a mage and then being able to decide between cleric and druid.

A varied production skill class. Everyone should have the ability to choose a production skill which they can use to make either potions, armor, weapons, or materials. Limiting one production skill per player creates an environment where people can socialize and make friendships in order to advance.

Pets are great! Everyone should have the ability to get a pet in game without spending real money. If there is a druid class or a nature-based class, they should have the ability to create or summon a pet to their side free of cost aside perhaps mana. Pets should have three life stages, baby, adolescent, and adult. The food you feed your pet should affect the way your pet looks. Pets should be able to gain experience and level, and they should be able to attack mobs. Cooler looking pets (I mean, who doesn’t want a sphinx for a pet!?) should cost real money.

Want to be speedy? Get a steed. I don’t care what other games do, but like pets, steeds should be available to people without a credit card. Make them insanely priced for faster speeds with in-game currency. Make cooler, even faster steeds cost real money. I don’t know about you, but I’d pay money to ride around on a tiger or a pegasus!

Multiple venues for experience. Word counters should be included within a game so that people who are social and prefer to hold conversations can gain experience from doing so. If not that, there should be something in place so that if you talk to your friends on your friends list that are online at the same time as you, if they’ve been online for longer than five minutes, you get an experience boost. Also allow there to be experience gained from using production skills, as time is both money and experience wasted in most all games. Also, allow there to be an experience boost for those who have traveled multiple maps in 24 hours. That way, everyone can be catered to.

Built in video systems. Needing Fraps or similar software in order to catch hackers in the act of hacking is no good. Also, being able to video your experiences in the game and post them on the net creates more of a community and advertises for the game at the same time.

Report Systems! There needs to be a great report system in any worthwhile MMORPG. I don’t want to spend an hour screaming at my computer because some jerk is KSing (that’s KillStealing) me and I can’t do anything about it. While KSing may or may not be against your game’s rules (it should certainly be discouraged), you should be able to right click the person you need to and hit the report button to report them.

Effective Anti-Hacking software. Everyone is tired of seeing hackers unless they themselves are hackers. In conjunction with a good reporting system, there should be effective anti-hacking software to keep the hackers out in the first place. The game being server-sided would help to discourage hacking.

And finally…

A compelling story. This is something many games lack. Fiesta Online actually has a very interesting story, it’s a shame that it’s overrun with bots and that it costs money to customize yourself. You should have a compelling story in order to hook people into the game. Make me want to play the game. Make me want to do quests. I have yet to see a game aside from Dream Of Mirror Online that has roleplay to it, that has a great story to it.

We pitched in to buy Straw a Flury set as a surprise. Sweet stuff with 30% reduced casting time and 20% reduced MP consumption. She about fell over dead when she got them. I guess if you’re going to murder someone, kill them with kindness.

But there’s a story here, too.

I found a Flury suit, and was advertising that I was on the market for that hat, gloves, and boots. Some guy sold me clean gloves for the going rate, and I told him I was buying it as a gift for a friend. A little later I get this pm from a stranger to come to the Flaris bank for what I wanted. They were playing a little coy, which put me on my guard.

When I arrived, this character said that a little bird told her that I was looking for a Flury set for my friend… then just hands over a complete Flury set, one part w/ a 100% good awake. That’s at good 40M in greens, at least. I was a little taken aback at this and hesitated, but accepted the trade. I wanted to give her something in return, but she left with the question, “What is penya?”

I was too flustered to really say, “Thank you”, but OMG thank you for you generosity. Straw’s on cloud nine, and you reaffirmed her belief that there are many decent people out there. That reaffirmation means a lot to me.

Now… I got a couple of greens for sale if you’re looking for a partial Flury set. lol

Never, ever, ever, ever, give your account information to anybody. The nicest people will prey on your greed and rip you off. Well, at least they pretend to be nice. They look nice, they sound nice, but are stinking scum behind the mask.

Here’s the story as it was relayed to me by Straw.

Straw has  a friend. I’ll call him Mr. I-Feel-So-Stupid (MIFSS). MIFSS has had a so-called friend. I’ll call him Brown Nosing Scum Bag (BNSB).

BNSB told MIFSS that he found a way to hack the game and get loads of penya for free. He convinced MIFSS that he just needed MIFSS’ account name and password, then he’d fill his pockets with penya. Once BNSB got into MIFSS’ account, he transferred all of MIFSS’ stuff to his character… stole everything. MIFSS aparently had some sweet cash shop items and equips with great awakes. Boom gone. No way to get them back.

In hindsight, if BNSB really had a way to hack the game and get free penya, and he was such a generous fellow, why wouldn’t he just hand over a billion penya using the normal Trade menu?

People, if they want your account information, tell them to go to… well, you know where. I feel bad for MIFSS, but hey… lesson learned.

We’re glad to welcome a new member to the guild. She’s a sweet girl from the southern hemisphere. She has a good heart and I’m sure she’ll become a great guardian angel. Welcome!

Our other new member is from the eastern US. He seems to have a good heart and is fun to be with. I look forward to playing with you both.

When Things Are More Important Than People

When we’re young, the things that we want are the most important to us. We think about how to get those things, but they don’t come to us automatically. We learn that if we beg, threaten, yell or scream enough, there are people who will give us what we want. We only care what people can give us.

We think, “Wow! I want a pet. How much is a pet? Six million penya! I don’t have any penya! Who can give me a pet?”  Then we run around asking people to give us a pet, or six million penya. “Give me penya, please! Please! Please! Please! I’ll stop asking when you say yes. Please! Please! Please give me six million penya now! If you don’t I’ll follow you around and bug you. I’ll be your best friend. Please! Please! Please!”

Because we only care what people can give us, we use words that describe how easy it is to get things from them. If they give us what we want, we call them nice. If they don’t, we call them mean. If they do not have self-respect and always give us things for free we say they’re a friend.

When people grow up, some people never change. Even as adults they look at people only to get things from them. They never learn to be happy. They hang with people who are weak and unhappy inside. They complain about what they don’t have, and think others should give them more.

Because the things we want are most important to us, we value things and use people to get those things. People don’t like to be used. They don’t want to be around us. When they block our messages, run away, or stop playing, we are lonely and angry, but do not understand why.

When we grow up and become more mature, we start to see that other people have feelings like we do. People don’t like to be used like a vending machine. We start to understand that our happiest times are with other people. When we’re polite and kind with each other, we can have true friends that come to us in good times and bad times.

We  guardian angels value people more than things. Things break, but true friends can last forever. True friends care about us and help us become better. They can work with us so we both get what we want.

But… we still want that pet, and it’s still six million penya. When people are more important, we can work with our friends to find things, trade things, sell things, and eventually… when we have the pet that we bought, we don’t just have a pet. We have a pet and better things. We have our fond memories of playing with our friends, working with our friends, crying with our friends, and looking forward to the next time we see each other.

The pet will not last forever, but our friends can.

Value people. Use things to bless their lives.

I played flyff since beta, and I STILL play flyff, but after v7, it became crap. our best GMs (like chris) left and other GMs came back, but they don’t do much. The game crashes randomly, outbursts during GM events (like hide and seek) cuz of random crash and a rollback, and plus the game’s more based on CS more then anything, so having good enough gear and earning money as a new comer is MUCH MUCH harder then before, so many people seem to quit before they even reach lvl 60.
