Towards the start of last week, I started to notice I was getting visitors “referred” to

Towards the start of last week, I started to notice I was getting visitors “referred” to the blog, from a site I’m somewhat familiar with already, due to researching A4e, called WatchingA4e. It turns out the person running the site was nice enough to include my site on the list of “Interesting sites”, on the right of the page, and as a result, people were clicking through, and stumbling upon the site. So by co-incidence, after my second FND meeting at A4e, I popped into a local library, to check my e-mail, and by chance I accessed the site, and noticed that as well as a link to my site on the sidebar, there was also a comment about my site, and a link through (again, many, many thanks). What interested me, however, and what’s ultimately inspired this particular post, were the comments posted in reply, by a person called Jack…

Before actually addressing the central issue – I’ll start by re-posting the comments to the post:

The first comment came from a user calling themselves “Jack”:

“I really don’t understand why ex-offenders are on FND anyway. Whilst I don’t know his circumstances, I would want to know if the person sat next to me on a FND course is an ex-offender. In any case I thought ex-offenders had NACRO, or whatever it is called to help them reintergrate into society and help them with housing and employment.

If I end up on FND I will certainly ask the provider if I will be coming into contact with any ex-offenders. We should have a right to know.“

Historian relied: “If he’s an ex-offender (stress on the “ex” – he’s done his time) why would you need to know?“

Jack: “I don’t want to know their name or what they’ve done. But I think I should be entitled to know if there are any in my group. And I think many other many others might share my view. There was at least one in my group when I was on the old New Deal. No problems whatsover, but as I said, I think people should have right to know.“

Those were the comments that had been posted by the time I found the post, and although I was a bit pushed for time, I quickly composed the following reply:

Hi Jack,

Just a quick update as I’m on a library machine at the moment, and I’m running out of time before my session ends. Also, any apologies for spelling mistakes – The keyboard is slightly different to the type I usually use, and it’s a bit difficult to get used to. Historian is absolutely on the nose – the important part to stress is “Ex-Offender” – Unless you’re of the belief that people aren’t deserving of a second chance in life.

With regards NACRO – They offer a number of useful services, not least of all, running background checks for ex-offenders, and offering basic skiils courses. I was indeed referred to them, however, in their own words – “There’s nothing we can really do for you”. As you said – NACRO, ultimately, offer services, that whilst very, very useful and important to ex-offenders, were unfortunately not of any use to me – I hate to go against the seemingly prolific stereotpye that all us ex-offenders are supposed to adhere to, but – and this may be a suprise – some of us are capable of basic things, such as addressing housing problems. Some of us can even read and write. With regards their approach to employment – they do indeed offer basic skills and interview techniques HOWEVER, Flexible New Deal isn’t designed to offer such services. Regardless of if people want to admit this or not – FND participants are in need of more focused help – unfortunately, however, this help can be lacking.

Now, with regards your statement, that, should you go onto FND, you’ll be asking the provider if there are any ex-offenders on the programme. You are, of course, entitled to ask such a question, however, the FND Provider would be in breach of so, so, many different regualations, that I can assure you they won’t tell you. I actually raised this very question with my FND Advisor this morning, at A4e, and while I’m not going to type her reply, verbatim, I can assure you that if there are other advisors like her in the system, you won’t get the response you’d like.

Now, to address your second post (he types, whilst looking at the clock) – Anyone who’ll be on the same programme as you, and is subject to probation contact, won’t simply be “dumped” on the programme – they’ll have had checks done, to ensure that the programme doesn’t interfere with the probation requirements, and, more importantly, doesn’t endanger anyone else on the programme. This last bit is especially true of anyone who is subject to MAPPA Arrangements – Typically these are ex-offenders who have been convicted of a violent or sexual crime. Now, with regards these type of clients – Why would FND Providers tell people? Can you imagine the response by other clients – Hell I’M an ex-offender, and whilst I’m pretty liberal, I wouldn’t want to be on a programe with such as person.

However – As someone who knows the Probation system “from both sides of the desk”, as it were – I can assure you that any ex-offender, who is still subject to these arrangements, will be extensively monitored, and that a full, and comprehensive, background check and risk assessment would be carried out, before they were allowed to take part. Now, with regards to ex-offenders who have been released from prison, and who have completed their probation / been removed from licence – What more do these people have todo, in order to gain the public trust?

Jack: “Thanks Anon, for taking the trouble of giving a more than adequate response to my question, and going into great detail about the probation system etc etc. I never suggested you weren’t capable of sorting out housing etc. I just assumed you got help with things like that.

And I can see what concerns I still have will have to addressed elsewhere“

In all honesty there isn’t all that much, from my own personal point of view, that I can add. However, since posting my comments, I’ve completed my “Induction” programme with A4e, and one of the topics covered, naturally, is one of discrimination. As part of the induction we were given a booklet titled “Dignity & Respect for all in A4e” which covers the various pieces of legislation that exist, to prevent discrimination against certain people, based on their background, lifestyle, religious beliefs, etc, etc. The booklet itslef briefly mentions the 1974 Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, which more and more isn’t worth the paper it’s written on in this day of CRB and Enhanced CRB checks for virtually every job.

However, something that isn’t mentioned in the Dignity & Respect booklet, but which was mentioned during the actual induction, was the issue of people with criminal records. The person responsible for delievering that particular part of the induction mentioned that, Yes, there would be clients within A4e who have criminal records – there may even be members of staff with them, but that A4e wouldn’t discriminate against anyone for their background, but, if anyone was concerned about the possibility of people with criminal backgrounds being in the building, they shouldn’t, as, on the off chance that anyone in attendance was still on Probation, they’d have been fully risk-assessed, before being allowed to attend.

Which I can only hope, will prove what I said in response to Jacks comments – Yes there may be ex-offenders attending the same A4e branch as yourselves, however, regardless of how much people may ask – A4e, and other providers SHOULD NOT disclose this information. Now, of course, that doesn’t allow for human error, but suffice to say, I’m pretty sure that should an ex-offender, or for that matter, anyone, on FND discover that their personal information has been discussed with other people – be they other members of staff, or other clients, without their permission, it’d be pretty big news (I know from my own personal point of view, I’d kick up a right rucuss).

Some encouraging news for people who have been placed on FND – the mythical “Flexible New Deal” booklet has finally surfaced. During my initial interview with the JCP, I was told that such a booklet was available, but that it was currently only available for staff. However, it’s now available online, so if your Jobcentre “Advisor” hasn’t given you a copy, head over to the following link, where you can read it:

Flexible New Deal: What You can expect and what we expect from you (FND1 10/09) [Via Flexible-New-Deal.co.uk]

Having looked through the content, it seems identical to the version I was able to quickly browse through at the JCP, other than the date (the version I read was dated 09/09)

The first of 4 planned posts, before my next appointment with A4e – this one talks about my se

The first of 4 planned posts, before my next appointment with A4e – this one talks about my second interview, the A4e Online Assessment tool, and the feeling of seemingly hitting a brickwall. Originally I’d hoped to have all 4 posts / articles online by today, however I twisted my ankle over the weekend (It’s my own fault for going running while it was raining), so I’m taking things a bit easy, until it’s fully back to normal. Anyway, that’s enough of my offline difficulties – onto the topic at hand.

Tuesday saw me up nice and early, so that I could fit in my morning run, before heading out for my appointment with A4e. Following on from my first interview with my “Career Coach” I’d been set two seemingly simple tasks – bring in a copy of my CV, and complete an initial assessment, through the A4e Website. Sounds simple enough…

Bringing in my CV wouldn’t be a problem, as I’ve got a few hardcopies stored away, for sending off for jobs, as well as a version stored on my computer, so I simply put one in an envelope, ready for my appointment. The initial assessment, is a 107 question “Assessment”, that has to be completed via the MyA4e website. I logged onto the A4e website, clicked on the link to take the assessment, and ran into the first problem:

[Basically I was on a linux machine, and the assessment requires Internet Explorer v5 or above, to work]

So, after logging out of Linux, and booting into Windows, I tried again, only this time I ran into a different problem:

After contacting A4e, it turns out, you need to go into the Security settings within Internet Explorer, and allow Popups – The machines within the A4e branches have already had this done to them, but it looks like something you need to change yourself on your own machine (then remember to change it back – popups are, after all, blocked for a reason).

So – the initial assessment itself. It comprises 107 questions, that appear to have been written in such a way as to ensure that, unless you lie through your teeth, you’re going to get “low scores” at the end of it -There are 107 Statements, that you’re asked your opinion on – ranging from Strongly Disagree through to Strongly Agree. Rather than attempt to manipulate the results, I answered honestly – which I think explains some of my scores (more on that hunch later on). Here, according to the online A4e assessment, are my results:

Now, from my point of view, this initial assessment has produced some “interesting” results – I’ll address them in order:

Motivation: I run 8 – 10 miles EVERY DAY. Regardless of the weather. Now, I’m no expert, but I think that requires quite a bit of motivation, especially in November Perhaps, however, they mean motivation to look for work? – If that’s the case, I can only say that I’ve apply for at least 3 jobs every week – that’s 120+ jobs so far this year. I attend the Jobcentre regulary, access the Jobcentre Plus website regularly, and have been told, on multiple occasions, both by Jobcentre Plus staff, and staff from external organisations – including A4e, that I’m extremly motivated to get back into work.

Life: I like to think I lead a healthy lifestyle. As well as running 8-10 miles every day, I make a point to eat very, very healthily. Whilst I’m clearly not the sharpest pin in the box, so to speak, I think I’m reasonably intelligent, I try and occupy my time with meaningful activities, such as reading and watching films (I’d be interested to know how many members of staff at A4e have watched Les Quatre Cents Coups recently). I live on my own, keep my apartment nice and clean, and despite being in receipt of Housing Benefit and JSA, and having to pay my bills, such as rent, water rates, gas, electricity, tv licence, etc, I still save £100 per month. I’d also like to think that, whilst I’m not the snappiest dresser, I “present myself” in a fairly respectable way.

Skills: I’m not going to disagree with this one Actually – joking aside, whilst I do have some respectable qualifications, they’re only really useful in one specific area of I.T. – If I wanted to get into a different field fo employment, then my skills are actually quite low.

Job: Seeing as I don’t have a job, this one is quite high. To be honest, I’m not sure exactly what this is supposed to represent (for what it’s worth, neither does my FND Advisor, which is somewhat worrying).

Experience: Another “interesting” result. I’m 25 years old, and so far I’ve worked for 6 years, which I don’t think is all that bad, given the number of years I’ve been unemployed, and on Probation. What’s more – A4e are looking to push me into I.T. work – all my experience has been in I.T. – and some of it has been quite complex (a lot, of Unix command line based work, sql database management, PHP Programming, etc, etc).

So those are the results of my “initial” assessment. Having completed it, and armed with quite a few questions, I trundled along to my interview, to see how things were progressing:

In short – because ultimately everyones interviews are going to be different, as everyone will have different backgrounds, etc, etc – I asked about what I perceived as my inappropriately low assessment results, and was simply told “It’s nothing really – If you did it again, you’d get different results“ – I suppose I would – next time I’m asked “Do you think we can help you“, and I answer “Strongly Agree“, as opposed to “Neither Agree or Disagree” as I did the first time around (how, exactly, are people supposed to answer these kind of questions, after a single 60 min chat?).

Other than that – we discussed the inevitable difficulties my “background” (as it’s now seemingly being referred to) would cause, with finding my any kind of job, yet alone a meaningful career, and it was suggested to me, that, whilst I’m still on Police / Probation contact, it might be better to just “keep things ticking over” until it all finishes, early next year – In other words, Congratulations, You’ve seemingly hit another brickwall, in terms of meaningful progress. So I left my second interview feeling not all that spectacular to be honest – oh, and with an appointment for my “A4e induction”, which would take place later that week (and which I’ll blog about next).

Hello Friends , here is some of quite commonly used AOL FND ( Foundation) tables and their usage. There are many other tables also in FND but here i am putting only few commonly used tables. for other table if needed we can dig furthur. Let go through below article and let me know if it useful.

1- FND_ID_FLEXS

2- FND_ID_FLEX_SEGMENTS

3- FND_ID_FLEX_STRUCTURES

4- FND_FLEX_VALUES

5- FND_FLEX_VALUE_HIERARCHIES

FND_ID_FLEXS stores registration information about key flexfields. Each row includes the four–character code that identifies the key flexfield, the title of the flexfield (by which a user identifies theflexfield), the name of the combinations table that contains the key flexfield columns, and the name of the structure defining (MultiFlex) column for the flexfield (SET_DEFINING_COLUMN_NAME). Each row also contains values that identify the application that owns the combination table and the application that owns the key flexfield, a table–type flag that specifies whether the combinations table is specificor generic (S or G), whether dynamic inserts are feasible for the flexfield(Y or N), whether the key flexfield can use ID type value sets, and the name of the unique ID column in the combinations table. You need one row for each key flexfield in each application. Oracle Application ObjectLibrary uses this information to generate a compiled key flexfield definition

FND_ID_FLEX_SEGMENTS: FND_ID_FLEX_SEGMENTS stores setup information about keyflexfield segments, as well as the correspondences between application table columns and the key flexfield segments the columns are used for. Each row includes a flexfield application identifier, the flexfield code, which identifies the key flexfield, the structure number(ID_FLEX_NUM), the value set application identifier, the segment number (the segment’s sequence in the flexfield window), the name of the column the segment corresponds to (usually SEGMENTn, where n is an integer). Each row also includes the segment name, whether security is enabled for the segment, whether the segment is required, whether the segment is one of a high, low segment pair, whether the segment is displayed, whether the segment is enabled (Y or N), type of default value, display information about the segment such as prompts and display size, and the value set the segment uses. Each row also includes a flag for whether the table column is indexed; this value is normally Y. You need one row for each segment of each structure for each flexfield. Oracle Application Object Library uses this information to generate a compiled key flexfield definition to store in the FND_COMPILED_ID_FLEXS table Thanks – Shivmohan Purohit

FND_ID_FLEX_STRUCTURES : FND_ID_FLEX_STRUCTURES stores structure information about keyflexfields. Each row includes the flexfield code and the structurenumber (ID_FLEX_NUM), which together identify the structure, and the name and description of the structure. Each row also includes values that indicate whether the flexfield structure is currently frozen, whether rollup groups are frozen (FREEZE_STRUCTURED_HIER_FLAG), whether users can dynamically insert new combinations of segment values through the flexfield pop–up window, and whether the flexfield should use segment cross–validation rules. Each row also contains information about shorthand flexfield entry for this structure, including whether shorthand entry is enabled, the prompt for the shorthand window, and the length of the shorthand alias field in the shorthandwindow. You need one row for each structure of each key flexfield. Oracle Application Object Library uses this information to generate acompiled key flexfield definition to store in the FND_COMPILED_ID_FLEXS table

FND_FLEX_VALUES stores valid values for key and descriptive flexfield segments. Oracle Application Object Library uses this table when users define values for independent or dependent type value sets. Oracle Application Object Library also uses this table when users define parent values for ranges of child values that exist in a validation table(Oracle Application Object Library stores the parent values in this table). Each row includes the value (FLEX_VALUE) and its hierarchy level if applicable as well as the identifier of the value set the value belongs to. If the value is a dependent value, PARENT_FLEX_VALUE_LOW contains the independent value this value depends upon. Oracle Application Object Library does not use the PARENT_FLEX_VALUE_HIGH column. If ENABLED_FLAG contains N, this value is currently invalid, regardless of the start and end dates.

If ENABLED_FLAG contains Y, the start and end dates indicate if this value is currently valid.SUMMARY_FLAG indicates if this value is a parent value that has child values, and STRUCTURED_HIERARCHY_LEVEL contains the rollup group the parent value belongs to, if any (1 through 9). COMPILED_VALUE_ATTRIBUTES contains the compiled values of anysegment qualifiers assigned to this value. These values are in a special Oracle Application Object Library format, and you should never modify them.

VALUE_CATEGORY and ATTRIBUTE1 through ATTRIBUTE50 are descriptive flexfield columns, where VALUE_CATEGORY is the context (structure defining) column.

These descriptive flexfield columns do not contain values unless you have defined the descriptive flexfield at your site. You need one row for each independent, dependent or parent value belonging to a value set.Oracle Application Object Library uses this information to ensure that users enter valid values in flexfield segments

FND_FLEX_VALUE_HIERARCHIES stores information about child value ranges for key flexfield segment values. Each row includes an identification of the parent value the range belongs to, as well as the low and high values that make up the range of child values. FLEX_VALUE_SET_ID identifies the value set to which the parent value belongs. You need one row for each range of child values (you can have more than one row for each parent value). Oracle Application Object Library provides this information for applications reporting purposes.

This week’s Friday Night Dance helps celebrate the start of the new school season. The J. Geils Band hit gold with “Centerfold,” both the song and the video. The song has a sort of bar band feel to it and lyrics that I happily sung along to in the ’80s despite not necessarily comprehending the beauty of fuzzy sweaters. The video depicts a school that I attend frequently in my dreams. It’s not necessarily the greatest song to dance to, but there are some great moves by singer Peter Wolf as well as his “students.”

I wonder if any of my friends who are teachers engage in such classroom activity.

Growing up in mall-infested Northern New Jersey, Tiffany’s mall tour was particularly relevant to me. It was also profound being an 8th grader and watching this cute 16-year-old redhead making me wonder what we’d do if there didn’t seem to be anyone around. I still melt a little when I hear the way she growls “trying to get away…into the night.” This song inevitably reared its head at 8th grade dances. I know because I watched my classmates dance to it while I sipped punch and talked to Gary about ALF.

It would seem that, whilst participating on the FND programme with A4e, you’ll actually be dealing with 4 different people – here’s the information from the booklet – I promise, with the exception of a note or two by me, this is an exact transcription – I honestly haven’t made any of this up:
“Who does what at A4e – Let’s meet your team“

“If you were an athlete, you’d have plenty of backroom staff working for your success. Coaches, physios, masseurs, agents and plenty more besides. Well, at A4e, it’s a similar set-up. Although your trainer is less likely to demand you go for early morning runs [My comment - I actually go for 8 - 10 mile runs most mornings, so I wouldn't mind that ]

Personal Career Coach.

While you’re on your A4e Flexible New Deal journey, your coach will be your partner, advisor, provider of moral support and, where necessary, critic. You’ll build up a relationship of trust with them and you’ll be in very regular contact.

Initially, they’ll do a bit of digging to see what’s coming between you and your goals. And together you’ll come up with a plan of action for overcoming these barriers.

Your coach will provide as much practical support as they can – which may include training. They’ll also provide feedback by reviewing – with you – how much progress you’ve made. If the answer is ‘not enough’ they’ll keep you on track until you’ve reached the point of being what we describe as ‘job ready’

So you know there’s someone keeping an eye on you, But also that you’re in control and you won’t be pushed into doing anything you’re uncomfortable with.

Trainer.

Yes, this is the person responsible for coordinating any necessary training. If we’re unable to provide certain activities on our premesis, your trainer will arrange for them to take place at alternative venues, organise transport, etc.

Whether at A4e or not, you’ll be monitored by your trainer to see that the training meets your needs, that it’s well structured and that it’s producing the results you’d hoped for. And, above all, that you’re aquiring the necessary skills to obtain, and retain, a rewarding job.

The close collaboration you enjoy with your Personal Career Coach will also be a feature of your relationship with your trainer.

Employment Coach.

Your Employment Coach will help you to obtain both work placements and long-term employment. In short, they’ll create employment opportunities for you. You’ll have one-to-one sessions with them to clarify what you’re after in terms of job type, salary, location, etc.

And to make sure you’re ready when the time comes for interviews, they’ll ensure you’ve gained the advice, training and self-confidence you need to perform to the best of your ability.

There will be close contact between them and your Personal Career Coach to ensure that whatever yo’ure put forward for is appropriate for you.

Local employers enjoy a good relationshop with our Employment Coaches. It’s how we get such a good insight into what local businesses are looking for.

In-Work Mentor.

You might assume that once you’re in full-time employment your contact with A4e will come to an abrupt end. But we continue to offer help for you up to a year after you’ve started work. Settling in can take a while, especially if you’d previously been out of work for a long time. Your mentor can help to keep your My Journey Plan on track and ensure a smooth transition into work. To to this, they’ll happily meet you face-to-face on a regular basis, during the first year.

They can even, along with your A4e trainer, arrange relevant in-work training; either at your own request or one by your employer.

And if, for whatever reason, you decide you’d like to look for alternative employment (while still in a job) your mentor can help you to make alternative career choices and to get the application and interviewing processes underway.

—

So many points to make – So little time

The Conservative Party has promised to implement changes to Flexible New Deal if they win the Genera

The Conservative Party has promised to implement changes to Flexible New Deal if they win the General Election.

At the Welfare to Work conference shadow Secretary of State Theresa May said if the second phase Flexible New Deal contracts have not been signed by the time they enter power, they will rewrite the contracts.

The proposals include introducing Flexible New Deal at 6 months NOT 12 months. Not really a significant big deal, as Labour currently plan to fast track Job Seekers to Flexible New Deal at 6 months anyway. We recently reported that the Jobcentre are unlawfully fast tracking “customers” on New Deal courses so it can be expected that most people would be fast tracked for Flexible New Deal. The proposals by Labour states anyone who has claimed before, regardless of the period, will be fast tracked after 6 months, and those that make a new claim which is also their first ever claim will have to wait for 12 months.

The proposals also include changing the contracting system to allow for smaller players in particular the third sector. Figures released show that New Deal prime contractors such as YMCA Training were amongst the poorest performing New Deal programme provision providers. I am not sure why, solely due to past performance, why anyone would want to consider the worst performers of the previous failed New Deal scheme to ruin a reformed scheme.

The Conservatives want to continue New Labour’s welfare reform agenda and take it further.

This seems another reason NOT to vote for the Tories. Thousands of people including jobseekers and other benefit claimants along with various Unions and other organisations have hit out against the Welfare Reform plans and not to mention the Welfare Reform Bill which caused some major concerns.

The Conservatives have made it clear that they want to create a stronger workfare system than what Labour proposes, bring forward the default timescales by slashing it in half from 12 months to just 6 months and sticking more Flexible New Deal participants in to Community Service like activities.

She arrived on the scene promising us a big ballast of unapologetic pop music. And we believed her.

She arrived on the scene promising us a big ballast of unapologetic pop music. And we believed her. Promoted her. And even thought she was cute. She was in the right direction. She had the disco balls. She had the Atari triangles. She even had unicorns roaming around her. The songs that surfaced promised a smooth direction into pop path. Even when we thought “Meddle” was bit dry. We blamed it on the early progress of an artist. We believed her. Why wouldn’t we, she plays an Japanese instrument called the Tenori-on.

But, from there on it was all downhill. The highly-anticipated BBC-boasted album Hands came out and it was more Ruby Blue, less Overpowered. More gold-fluff less Goldfrapp. We’re not saying it’s not all there, but it’s hardly Robyn-esque truimph.

It all started with the music video for her make-or-break single – “New In Town.” Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good song. But, the video is so overproduced. It’s a Los Angeles kind of video for a song that would have been fine being filmed in an East London artist’s little apartment. It stalled at #13 in the UK.

Then came the album. Not what was expected. The electro is there. The pop less so. It sounds like a Pet Shop Boys fan with really good mixing software trying to make it on MySpace. Maybe that’s what she is. But, Hands just sounds like the album that Siobhan Donaghy would shelve herself.

Then came her decision to release “Remedy” as a second single. It’s one of the weakest tracks on the album. A Freemasons couldn’t save it. The video is set to debut soon and we’ll see if this saves it. But, our bets are that it won’t. Somewhere between MySpace and “New In Town” she lost it. On her new American EP Illuminations she ditched the unicorns for a Britney look (Above). Let’s see if it works for her.

Perhaps I have been too busy, desperately seeking support from the ‘old’ New deal, to notice or be aware that there was a FND, Flexible New Deal, being rolled out?

As a 50 plus Incapacity Benefit recipient, struggling to survive on +/_ £80 per week, while seeking specific retraining funding, I would like to ask this question.

“How many out of work people were consulted on this new scheme and where can one obtain a copy of their feed-back?”

As usual, there appears to be a lot of spin coming from the government, a lot of negativity from the so called private sector agencies and contractors and most importantly, a huge amount of depressed feelings coming from the very people it is supposed to be helping.

What is the difference between cross-validation rules and security-rules?

Cross validation rules prevent all the responsibilities/users entering invalid account combinations. Security rules are attached to specific responsibilities to prevent using few of the segment values for a segment. Cross Validation Rule: Rules that define valid combinations of segment values a user can enter in an account. Cross-validation rules restrict users from entering invalid combinations of account segment values. Security Rule: It determines the accounting transaction user can view at different levels of hierarchy, such as at Site Level –>Application Level –> Responsibility Level –> User level. Cross Validation Rule applies across the chart of account where Security Rule is applicable at Responsibility Level or User Level. Cross Validation Rules are meant for defining the set of combinations that are excluded from the global set whereas Security Rules are to restrict Users/Responsibilities. Cross-Validation Rules are to control the certain code combinations. Security Rules are to control the certain segment values.

How many ways can you enter a journal in GL?

1. Manual entry 2. Subledger Entry 3. Spreadsheet Entry 4. Recurring Entry 5. Mass Allocation

What is a recurring invoice?

Recurring Invoice is a type of invoice which occurs at definite intervals of time. The best example for a recurring invoice is Rent paid to the Owner.

What are the general setup steps for AP, AR, and GL?

For GL:

1. Define Chart of Accounts2. Define Calendar

3. Define Currency

4. Create Set of Books

For AP:

1. Define Suppliers (Creditors)

2. Invoice

3. Look up codes

4. Selection of Set of Books

5. Payment Terms

6. Financial & Payable Options

7. Define Banks

For AR:

1. Flexifield

2. System Options

3. Payment Terms

4. Open period

5. Auto Accounting

6. Transaction Type

7. Transaction Source

How do we integrate AP or AR to GL ?

There is a program in payables to transfer AP to GL is “payables transfer to general ledger” GL is like AR->GL<-AP, AR and AP both transfer the data in GL. AR Contains all Invoices/Receipts /CM/DM and same way AP also have AP Vouchers. Yes, there is a clear Integration of AP/AR with GL.

The integration is like this: all the accounting created in subledgers (AP/AR) are transferred to Gl. The journal created from AP/AR are clearly identified in GL according to their batch names and journal names.

What is the difference between GL date and GL posted date in GL ?

GL date is the date used to determine the correct accounting period for your transactions where as the GL posting date is the date when the journal entry is posted the GL. GL date is the date used to determine the correct accounting period for your transactions where as the GL posting date is the date when the journal entry is posted the GL, also Called Transaction Date & Posted Date.

In GL there is no org id. So how can we differentiate the data different operating units when no other modules are given ?

HR data is at business group level. GL Data is differentiated based on set of books id. AP and AR data is mostly at operating unit level. Inventory, BOM, WIP data is at inventory organization level. In the gl_sets_of_books we have the set_of_books_id column. This column is enough to differentiate between one operating unit with the other. If you see the multiorg structure of Oracle Apps modules, we’ll see that GL is setup at set of books level. Now you generally won’t get data at OU level. OU data sums up at a higher SOB level. Please follow the below structure if you want more clarification top->bottom HR org->SOB->OU->inventory org

At what stage, the subledger data is posted to GL?

When Transactions are completed in subledgers data may be posted to GL Basically after entering the transactions, report will be taken to verify the transactions. In case, if approval is needed, it is approved after verifying the transactions. Once you are sure that the transactions are correct, the same can be posted to GL. Once it is posted, most of the information for the posted transaction can not be modified in the subledger. In case of any wrong entry, you need to follow the reversal procedure. Practically, the verification of transactions are done only during the initial stages after implementation. Once the system becomes stable, it is not followed strictly. Note: Make sure that GL period is open for the transaction GL date. Close all the periods in subledger after you reconciled all your transactions. Once you close the period, sweep program will run and all the un-posted and future entries will be transferred to next open period. Once this is done run the GL Transfer program and Journal import programs to complete the transaction transfer process. Once this is done you will find un-posted journal entries in GL you can post the same or reverse the same if you find something is missing. GL periods should also been opened and the GL period should be closed at the last.

Why cant interest rates are set uniquely supplier wise in payables module, whereas interest rate is applied to all suppliers the same rate?

Terms and conditions differ with each supplier.

What is FSG and its use?

Financial Statement Generator is a powerful report building tool for Oracle GL. FSG is used by the management for the decision making in the financial sector of the firm or an enterprise.

Uses of FSG :1. Generate financial reports such as income statements and balance based upon the data in your GL.

Note: If you have average balance processing enabled in your set of books, you can report on functional, foreign–entered, or translated average balances.

2. Define your reports with reusable report objects, making it easy to create new reports from the components of reports you’ve already defined. 3. Design custom financial reports to meet specific business needs.

4. Print as many reports as you need simultaneously.

5. Print the same report for multiple companies, cost centers, departments in the same report request.

6. Schedule reports to run automatically.

7. Produce ad-hoc reports whenever you need them.

8. Print reports to tab-delimited files for easy import into client-based spreadsheet programs. In addition, you can use the Report Wizard feature of Applications Desktop Integrator to design and submit your financial reports, as well as view the results, directly from a spreadsheet. 9. Define segment value security rules to restrict financial information contained in FSG report output generated by specific users and responsibilities. Note: To apply segment value security rules, the profile option FSG: Enforce Segment Value Security must be enabled

Explain ADI and its features?

ADI means application desktop integrator. It is a excel file which allows you to transfer the data pertaining to General Ledger, Fixed Assets and Budget to oracle apps and allows to run a request. ADI functionality provides an alternative to users who prefer to load information directly from Microsoft Excel rather than using the Oracle user interface. It should read Oracle Interface Programs (batch jobs) rather than Oracle User Interfaces. Broadly following are the feature / elements of ADI

1. Journal Wizard

2. Budget Wizard

3. Report Wizard.

4. Account Hierarchy Editor.

5. Analysis Wizard.

6. Request Center

ADI allows users take advantage of many of the data-entry shortcuts of a spreadsheet, such as copying and pasting cells, dragging and dropping ranges of cells and using formulas to calculate journal line amounts. ADI validates the data entered against the accounts, security rules and reference information that are defined in the General Ledger (GL).

What is EDI and its functions?

EDI – Electronic Data Interchange, to send the data to another server/destination via EDI server.E-Commerce Gate Way is the one of the Module in Oracle Apps. EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) is way of exchanging the Business documents like Sales Order, Invoice, PO etc., between two business entities in agreed standard format like ASCII X12 format. In oracle application, business documents may be referred as 850POI (purchase order Inbound), 810INO (Invoice Outbound) etc.. There are several third party sources are available which may be use in mapping of several documents from Oracle Format to X12 and vice versa. Some of them like Sterling Commerce, Klein Schmidt…. EDI is a toll where in whenever the customer is sending the PO it gets saved in this toll, again when the supplier after supplying the material will send an invoice through EDI, wherein the EDI of the customer will match the PO with the invoice and the invoice will get processed automatically, in case if it is not matching it will be in the error sheet

I have a confession to make. I actually purchased Milli Vanilli’s Girl You Know It’s True album AFTER it was revealed that the two dreadlocked males we’d come to believe were singing, were actually lip synching frauds. Much of the music on the album had been everpresent in the late ‘80s but as I hit upon my first dose of ‘80s nostalgia in college, I wanted a copy of that album. However much of a fraud the guys in the video were, that doesn’t take away the enjoyment of the music. Sure it’s a bit overwrought, even by ‘80s standards, but if that many people were buying into the popularity, than they were hitting some notes right.

I think the bigger issue is that the real Milli couldn’t even find guys who could dance to put in his videos. While some could laugh at many of our Friday Night Dances, they were mostly delivered by people with groove (or, in Paula Abdul’s case, outright skill). I’m not quite sure the flying chest bump became something anyone ever embraced, at least outside of the NBA. Or the side-by-side, shoulder-enhanced-blazer-wearing shimmy, for that matter. (Axl Rose had better rhythm than these guys.) That all said, girl…you know it’s true.

I loathe American Idol and everything it stands for which puts me in the tiniest minority among friends, family and the world’s population. Part of the disappointment of it is seeing an old crush reduced to a doting nutcase. But in the ‘80s, Paula Abdul struck my fancy. She was one of the best combinations of exotic sex-appeal mixed with cute innocence. She could give an adorable look that made you want to hug her and then turn around and engage in some scantily-clad dance that made you want to, well, you know.

Here’s the video to her first hit. Not my favorite song of hers (that would be the immortally fantastic “Forever Your Girl”) but a pretty fine showcase for her dancing skills.
