The other day as I was getting ready to leave the house, my husband said, “Remember to be sure to lock yourself out of the house.” I smiled because I knew what he meant. His misstatement is a lot like the way our brains work.

When we hear “Don’t forget to bring your keys.” Our mind hears, “Forget your keys”.

It’s much better if we train our minds to hear what we do want instead of what we don’t want. For example, if he had said, “Remember to bring your keys so you can get back in the house.” My mind would have heard “Remember to bring your keys … get in house.”

One way I commit to self-love is by consciously telling myself what I do want, rather than worrying about trying to avoid something I don’t.

Staying in the moment keeps me empowered because it’s all I have. The past is gone, and the future is yet to come. When I’m consciously in the moment, my mind does not ruminate about past mistakes or worry about possible future events. I’m more present and grounded.

This is a favorite Self-love practice of mine. It brings peace of mind, emotion, spirit and body.

See if you can catch yourself focusing on what you don’t want. If you notice yourself getting anxious or angry these emotions can alert you to switch your perspective. Try the “Switch it up” mind game. See if you can switch your thoughts from worrying about something negative to clarifying what you want to bring into your life.

This mind game will bring a sense of well being into your life, positively affecting you and those around you.

In this month of April I invite you to begin the Mind Games — and may the odds be ever in your favor!

Blessings,
