Originally there should have been 100 tons of clay showing huge clay cube. But what happened? It collapsed, all this huge clay cube. Then somebody got brilliant idea. Let’s citizen of Helsinki (Finland) make their own art from that clay. That was nice idea, because about 1300 persons made their own art and guess if it was a great success. / Originalmente la idea era hacer de 100 toneladas un inmensa cubo de arcilla. ¿Pero que sucedió? Se derrumbó el cubo de arcil. Entonces alguien recibió una idea brillante. Se permita que ciudadanos de Helsinki (Finlandia) hagan su propia arte de arcilla. Una idea genial. Aproximadamente 1300 personas hizieron su propia arte y eso fue un gran triunfo. / Au début il aurait dû avoir 100 tonnes de d’argile pour faire une un énorme bloc cube d’argile. Mais qu’est-il arrivé ? Il s’est effondré, tout ce énorme cube d’argile. Alors quelqu’un a obtenu une idée génial.Laissez les citoyens de Helsinki (Finlande) faire leur propre art de l’argile. Cela était l’idée brillante parce que a peu près 1300 personnes a fait leur propre art. Vous pouvez bien deviner que c’était un grand succès.

When I was 19.. I went through my boyfriends phone.. it had been a couple of months.. he’d texted a female “friend” telling her that I wasn’t his girlfriend or some other b.s… and what did I do?! Ab-so-lut-ely nothing! I couldn’t.. I shouldn’t have been looking through his phone in the first place.. and I was NOT about to give up my position.. I learned a valuable relationshipial lesson that day:

DON’T LOOK FOR SH*T!!

This seems to be a significant issue in relationships.. looking through phones, searching pockets, reading diaries (yes, the same ex did that to me.. crazy mofo)

If you have enough distrust to search for signs of infidelity.. you have enough distrust to be by your damn self!

I will never ever understand why people go looking for possible drama..

Here is some advice for ya’ll:

1. Don’t ask questions you don’t really want the answers to – “did you sleep with her?”.. either way you are going to be mad.. if he lies, you’ll be mad that he cheated AND lied.. and if he tells the truth, you’ll be mad that he cheated.. if you don’t want to know.. just don’t ask
2. Don’t go looking for answers, you will find them – nothing is worse than finding something out on your own about the person you trust.. whether you’ve asked around or logged in to his facebook (#fail).. you will undoubtly find something that will wreak havoc.. even if it means nothing.. you know you will make something out of nothing..
3. Don’t reveal your sneakiness – if you decide to confront someone about information you received in an underhanded manner, you will now be the person in the hotseat.. whatever the other party did will no longer matter because you should’ve trusted them and minded your own damn business! Just tell them some guys from the baseball team told you (c) Mean Girls

Yeah, the Rita that talks to you like a nut sometimes. The one that begs you to make my life better.

The one wondering what did I do to deserve this in my life? A man who just blantly now talks to his other woman and tells me about it. Who still occassionally wants sex with me. Who tells me to get away from him because my cream or purfume stinks. Maybe I should find out what he buys her and wear it and then he might hold me in his arms?

God, really send me a sign. I have tried to have hope, I have tired praying. I have tried just giving it to you and I am so bad with that I just keep taking it back. Someone once told me you can’t give God your problems then take them back and I do it all the time. I try to make it all happen at ocnce.

What is so bad about me? I know that woman is better than me. I allowed my ugly self to show to my husband. She is prettier, she is friendlier, more wicked, but I am sure for a while she can control that. Once she gets total control of him she will have a good one. She will change him. He will give up his money to her and trust her to do the right thing. That is why she always in front of him to me stressed why she worked. She is more sexually attractive, sexier voice…..I have heard he has said these things to her. I am just this old washed up old hag now to him. I am a baggage that he can’t seem to get rid of. I need to let go then he won’t feel so bad. Isn’t that the least I can do for him? Just let him go……… he wo’t have a decision to make, it won’t be on his shoulders. He can walk away with a clear whatever.

On a Gemini day when chorophyll awakens in the air, I remember Boston. I remember the sound of the T. I remember the sound of traffic stretching over a city, bike messengers riding past, billboards… the smell of grass growing by the Charles. Maybe this is why I am drawn to moving to Richmond these days. I miss that: a city divided by river, river lazily flowing through like some intentional feng shui water feature that draws bankers into the city and drives up the real estate prices until I can’t afford to stay there anymore. I remember the peculiar scent in the air every June, when anything is possible. It only smells this way when summer is precious. In the South, summer is taken for granted. It is the default mode of life.

Missing is such a circular thing. It goes nowhere. Today I am missing Boston. While I lived in Boston I found a million places to miss. Nothing was right. I wanted to be in Puerto Rico, in Africa, in India, in New York. Tomorrow I may go back to Boston and miss the South.

Sometimes I think about people I miss. I am strange. I think I am different from most people; I never stop missing friends. I never stop looking for them under rocks. I always pine for their words, their energy, the traces of their arms where they once hugged life back into me. I carry each person with me that has changed me, forever, no matter what happens between us. A friend could ignore me, insult me, ditch me in favor of a love interest of the appropriate gender after I’ve put my heart and soul into loving them as only a friend can, or scorn me. It doesn’t matter. I’m a fool. Like a dog, I continue loving. I forget the hurt and just remember how it felt to love them, to experience the beauty of their soul in an eternal sense—no matter what I got back from it.

And, strangely enough, in many cases, people come around. Eternity is eternity, and not the same as the everyday passage of time. The friend with the jealous husband gets divorced and needs your support and friendship once again. The lover who was too busy for you with their art suddenly sees that they made a big mistake and comes to you when they are down. Do I turn them away? Almost never. I’m a fool. But I’m like the Fool of the Tarot deck. A conscious fool. The card numbered Zero, outside all numerical, material reasoning. The one who will love and remember and hold on when any sensible, self-protecting person would have picked up their things and left.

Do I have poor self-esteem? Hardly. Do I allow myself to be treated badly? I certainly try not to. I love myself tremendously. I am not any sort of masochist—physically or emotionally. I am just a fool. I love without asking why. I remember without judging. I know that people can change, that miracles happen, that today is today and yesterday was yesterday. I give without keeping score. And I feel without sorting out the pain from the pleasure. I’m like an open wound walking blissfully into the abyss, one foot off the cliff, jester cap on my head—telling jokes as I give myself away. I love these fleeting butterfly moments of communion, these northern lights in the sky of souls—knowing all the while that nothing beautiful can be owned, nor can northern lights keep us warm at night.

I am The Fool. I hold onto things. I love that which cannot pay back. I continue to love long after it’s gone—without blame, without anger or disdain. I always remember the best things I shared with someone. I remember long after others have counted their losses and moved on.

Although even a conscious fool is still human.

The Fool dances on the edge of a cliff. In at least one 19th Century deck, the Wirth Tarot, there is a crocodile, waiting expectantly for the Fool to fall into his open month. We all know people like this, who seem to take risk after risk and always come out on top. We care about them so we are relieved when they succeed, but we also, deep in our subconscious wish, just once, that they would fall so they would learn not to be so reckless.
But the Fool is not reckless. Risk is good for us, we may fail, but if we don’t try at all, we DO fail. As many would point out, if Columbus didn’t try to sail around the world, we would not be here. But Columbus did not expect to fail. He was fairly certain that the world was round, not flat and he would not fall off. Sure there were unexpected problems, it was farther than he figured, there was this big continent in the way, but he tried and found some success, if not the solution he was looking for. The Fool may seem overconfident, but diffidence and timidity never achieves anything. Do or do not, as Yoda would say, there is no try.
The Fool is also the student, just started on a new Life Journey. In many decks, he carries a bindlestiff, a pack on a stick over his shoulder. This are his tools, to some tarot scholars, this pack contains the cup, sword, and pentacle of the tarot, while the wand is used as the stick. This is the beginning of the tarot journey of discovery. The Fool is numbered zero, at the beginning of the quest for knowledge that the Major Arcana illustrates.
The Mediaeval fool–the court jester–was the like the child who said the Emperor had no clothes. He see and speaks the truth with a childlike baldness. He is simple, but not stupid, just a bit naive. Preventing Losses At All Costs

You run a coffee powder business. You want to produce as much coffee as you can and sell it with bulk quantity at the price where you’re competitive. All a sudden, you find yourself having some of the workloads which quality is lower than the standard that you’ve set up in accordance with your customers’ wishes. You know that you should have done something to prevent this from happening but you didn’t do anything good enough for it. Therefore, it’s on your mind now.

So what would you do? You can have two options now.

Option number one is that you will dump all the low quality coffee and get a big loss on your investment because of your sucking quality control. You might risk your capital or your financial stability. You’ll have to let those quality control guys, who brought you into this dilemma, go home and have nights without sleep to think of solutions for that and try to overcome your difficulties. But you can save your face, your business brand and keep up with the quality promises you’ve made with the customers trusting and using your product.

Or to save the possible loss, you pick the second option that you pretend you didn’t know what happened to your coffee and brainwash your quality concepts and fool your salespeople and customers with the excuse that most other businesses in your industry can have the same mistake . And so can you.

You can cheat your customers once or twice, but are you assured that you can do it the third and fourth time? And what if they find out they’re getting something less worthy than what they’ve paid for? Maybe you can ordered your workers to sit all day long at their coffeeshops to make company name on top of their minds? But for what? For your tricks on them?

Too many people in the marketing and communications industry call themselves experts, gurus, specialists, advocates, and other elitist terms.

How can you be an expert of something constantly changing?

Maybe I should ask an expert. Hmm.

Allow me to try to convince you that it is better to be known as a geek in your subject of expertise (and for the sake of this blog, we’ll stick with marketing) than an expert.

1. Geeks have a Passion for the subject
Sure, the definition of expert implies a mastery of a particular subject, but does it denote a love for it? According to the definition, it does not. Ah, but a geek! Everybody has a geek in their group of friends. Everybody has that one person that can explain life through a football example, or compare an event to the cell phone industry, or can break down a commercial because of the colors used. And in the definition for geek, there is that one word that separates it from expert- Enthusiast. You can develop a skill…a passion comes naturally.

2. People like Enthusiasm more than Intelligence
Perfect example: George W. Bush vs. John Kerry. Kerry seemed to be the more intelligent of the two, but who won the audience? Who seemed human, and enjoyed being there? It is human nature to be attracted to a smile than a statistic. A geek is a scary form of human being because they can showcase enthusiasm for a statistic. Wonderful.

3. Geeks KNOW that their not Experts
Like the old proverb “Fools think they know, when the wise know they still have much to learn”. Listen to those people that have a lot of information, but still admits that there is more information out there. The best teacher is a solid learner.

Beloved of God,

I just wanted to take a moment and share with you what the Lord is doing. We had an incredible weekend in Raleigh/Durham. IHOP-KC sent out a team of missionaries to hold a Onething regional conference.

It was a powerful time of encountering God in the WORD and in the SPIRIT. Many peoples lives were eternally changed this weekend for the Glory of God in Christ Jesus. I know only eternity will show the fruit of this weekend. Praise be to our God who has loved us, and who will always love us! His goodness and mercy are overwhelming!

With that said, I want to share some highlights and prayer request…

God’s favor was upon me this weekend and IHOP-AC. God began to speak to the IHOP-KC (kansas city) leadership concerning me and IHOP-AC. They asked me to come on stage and share with over 1600 people the vision and mandate that God has released for “day and night” prayer in Central NC. It was powerful and God graced me to speak as an oracle in those brief moments. All praise to Jesus. It is His glory not mine.

After the conference, Dwayne Roberts who is a senior leader and Director over Onething ministries asked to speak with me concerning some things that I said. He began to share with me some things that they have been speaking about in KC recently and how I was in agreement with what God has been speaking to their leadership team. He then proceeded to randomly become the answer to a prayer that I had asked God two night earlier for. My cell phone had been messing up and going black for a whole week. I told Gracey how I would like a new one, one that would serve my calling. I asked God to release to me an IPhone. Not because I was lusting after the latest technology, but b/c it would help me fulfill my calling as a tool for ministry. I did not see it coming, but Dwayne said God told me to give this to you. I was a brand new IPhone 3gs. He told me how a girl threw it on stage and said she was tearing down her idol. Dwayne attempted to return it, she said, NO!!! ITS AN IDOL… seeing the music that was on the phone, I now see why God was telling her to get it out of her life. There was contemporary Christian to ganster rap glorifying sex, money and drugs. God is soo good to free her from bondage and bless me in the same time. I still can’t believe that Dwayne Roberts was talking to me about the Lord and then, randomly… Gives me an answered prayer. God is funny : )

Last, Dwayne invited me and Gracey to come out in December to the conference in KC. He personally asked us to come for the Leadership Summit that will take place the following days after the conference. He said that he strongly felt the Lord telling us to come and represent Central NC.

So please pray for us as we are seeking God to release funds for us to drive out to Kansas City this new years. Also, we are planning to spend Christmas with Gracey’s family in Indiana. So there is a urgent need for prayer and break in of finances to do all God is calling us to. He is faithful to do all He desires, as He partners with His people, unto the glory of His name in the nations of the earth!

Arcana in Balance - The Fool

It was an AH-HA moment.

My teacher, Joy Star, tweeted about The Lovers card speaking about male-female balance. Like a lightbulb over the head, it was suddenly obvious that all the major arcana had this kind of insight to offer.

As I see it, the traditional “meaning” of ANY tarot card is shaded, changed, “spin doctored” three things…the position within the spread, the purpose of message, and the personal associations of the person receiving the reading. This last is, in my opionion, the most important. Traditional card meanings and spread-position connotations are well known, so I’ll be talking over the next several weeks about the idea of “message purpose”. Cards can have a ‘flavor’ to the message. They can emphasize advice, cautions, validations, messages of encouragement …or in the case of the major arcana, show where life is out of balance. Balance, is a very important concept, especially in some eastern philosophies. It is also an integral part of modern holistic health, and stress management.

The Major Arcana is symbolic of the major life lessons and stages of life from birth to death. These cards have always been thought to have greater energy, depth and complexity than the minor arcana cards. They are the big deal stuff that “trumps” the “small stuff” Back when the tarot cards were used for playing games, the major arcana cards were literally ‘trump’ cards, just as exist in our card games today.

The first Major Arcana card is “The Fool”. Over time language changes. Now when we think of “fool” we think of “foolish” which has many negative connotations: impractical, oafish, ill-informed, even stupid, impulsive…not the kind of person you would want to hang around with…much less have them teach you a big life lesson.

That is part of the lesson to be sure…that innocence teaches and that we can learn from anyone or any situation, but that is another post.

A more contemporary way to think of “The Fool” is like a court jester…or a stand up comedian.

Think of some of the most popular comedians….on the level of a Robin Williams, Dennis Leary, or Whoopie Goldberg…people whose comedy is art, and have something large to say.

THAT is the feeling of this card.

The point of balance in question is one of work and play, humor vs seriousness.

I often associate a cliche or old proverb with the major arcana cards…for this one “all work and no play make Jack a dull boy” also “Laughter is the best medicine”

If the Fool comes to you, think where things are too serious…or you aren’t taking them seriously enough.

Where do you need to put effort, but equally important, where do you need to lighten up and feed your soul as well as mind and body. Stress is a killer. Laughter heals. There is a certain wisdom to the ‘work hard, play hard’ paradigm that Americans seem to love. By the same token, the “hard” needs to be off set at times with “chill”. Sometimes we need to work, but maybe not so hard, and play, but not so gung-ho.

I love the lessons we can find in kids cartoons. Here the best example I can think of is the Disney cartoon “Phineas and Ferb” (love it…would watch it even without kids around)…they put out effort, but love it, go with the flow of it utterly…and accomplish the impossible in a summer afternoon.

Yeah, its just a cartoon…pure fantasy. But so are a lot of the things we learn from and revere. Why not learn from a cartoon? To dismiss what you see there, is to dismiss the lesson of the Fool card. It’d be foolish.
