The Jets and Bills play in Canada on Thursday Night Football

The Jets have been up and down all year so there is no way to tell what kind of Jets team you are going to get week in and week out. The Jets win a game against a lousy Carolina team and now they get the nod to be road favorites against Buffalo. This game is on national TV which is huge for the Bills because the crowd will be loud and proud of the Bills. Having the game in Canada only makes it all that much louder and special for this Bills team. The Jets will have their best corner on TO but in reality Fitzpatrick loves to throw it to Lee Evans. The Jets have come up short in six of their last seven as favorites of less than 9 points with revenge. On the other hand, the Bills are 5-0 versus a division foe with revenge off a SU win as underdogs. Buffalo has come away with the cash in nine of the last dozen series duels. Take the Bills plus the points.

There.  I said it.  If you really think that this looks better than this then you should move on.

But if you know that this is better than this, and this is terrible but this looks good, and this is crap but this is classic, then hopefully we should get along.  Monochromatic works in the NBA, NHL, MLB but doesn’t make sense in the NFL (sorry – National Football League, as any announcer on TV would say).  Find me one good monochromatic scheme in the NFL.  Oh.  Well that’s the exception.  All white works, but only if you have a white helmet.  See how much better Arizona looks in blue pants than white?

I’m not sure why teams keep thinking these uniforms are attractive, but that’s why I love the Giants.  We got blue and grey or white and grey.  Whatcha want?

PLEASANTON, Calif. -  There were no “booms,” “bangs” or “doinks” on Thanksgiving.

There was just John Madden, his wife Virginia and a turducken.

For the first time in a long time, including his 30-year broadcasting career, Madden did not have to think about football.

Saddened Madden

“It’s an odd feeling,” said Madden, who didn’t know what to do with himself. “You know, it’s like you’ve got this feeling and it’s just odd, and that’s why you call it an odd feeling.”

The 73-year-old Hall of Famer, who spent the last three decades in living rooms across the country while working for the major four television networks, had trouble watching the games Thursday.

“Watching football is difficult when you’re not around the game,” he said. “You see, because I don’t work in football anymore, it’s difficult to watch. If I were around the game, it would be easy, but because I’m not, it’s difficult.”

While Madden hardly watched any of the three holiday games, he refused to leave his Madden Cruiser, which he has slept in for the entire season, his wife said.

“John is John, so when John’s being John, you can’t stop him from being John,” she said. “He’s just John.”

Madden’s refusal to sleep in the same bed as his wife has not been a surprise, his wife said. Without a structured schedule, Madden doesn’t know how to function, so he resorts to most of his past habits to stay sharp, she said. And that sharpness, unfortunately, leaves Virginia Madden without a spooner at night.

Her husband admits he doesn’t understand the fascination with the cuddling position.

“I’m not a big spoon guy,” he said. “Spoons can only go so far, which is why we have the fork. The fork can pick things up. The spoon only scoops, and when you scoop, you drop stuff. I don’t wanna drop stuff, so I use the fork.”

Madden telestrates the turducken creation process

Madden made good use of his fork Thursday, chomping away at a fresh turducken and all the trimmings that Virginia cooked. After eating a 20-lb. bird within a bird within a bird, three pounds of stuffing and two pounds of cranberry sauce, Madden took a breather to return to one of his favorite pastimes: telestrating.

While football was “out of the question,” Madden turned on “What’s Cluckin’ in My Turducken?” and began to go wild.

Pulling out the telestrator that Al Michaels gave him for his retirement, Madden pointed out the key methods that can mean the difference between a turducken gone right and a turducken “gone cluckin’,” he said.

“Watch this,” Madden said, his voice finally full of the passion that made him the most popular football color commentator of his generation. “The turkey may be dead, but it’s still ready for that duck. But the duck has to want to go inside that turkey and it can’t until the chicken wants to go inside the duck. Now watch these two men work their magic … right HERE. FREEZE IT!”

If only Madden were talking about the turducken and not the video.

“But I inhaled it fellas,” he said. “And when I inhale a turducken, it can’t come back out. Because I digested it, and you see, that’s the way digestion works.”

Obama joins Saints quarterback Brees, Steelers safety Polamalu and Cowboys linebacker Ware in a special public service announcement debuting during each of the three NFL games played on Thanksgiving.

The 90-second PSA is a joint effort of the NFL’s PLAY 60 campaign, a league-wide effort to fight childhood obesity by getting kids active for 60 minutes a day, and United We Serve, the president’s initiative encouraging all Americans to participate in community service.

The spot will continue airing throughout the rest of the season in a shorter format.

“Through United We Serve, I have challenged all Americans to roll up their sleeves and engage in sustained service to strengthen our communities,” the president said. “For some of us that means volunteering at a soup kitchen or cleaning up a local park. For others, it means taking time to build a playground or volunteering your time to improve the life of a child.“

                Okay, so I’m a total girl in some aspects of my life: I love the movie The Titanic, and my straightener that all my guy friends are convinced I spent way too much money for, I probably have too many shoes, and I love just about anything Burberry, but you see I love football
I love the sounds of it; the way you can hear the pads and helmets smacking against each other like thunder. I love how much effort and heart and sometimes even blood gets left on the field after a tough game. How it brings people together, and how it creates those friendly rivalries, and bets that win you and sometimes loose you a few twenties. Well, mostly friendly rivalries, unless you are talking about the Ohio v Michigan games…or now I guess WVU v Michigan as well since Rich Rodriguez peaced out of Mo’town (as Morgantown, WV is sometimes affectionately known as in WV) for a few dollars more. I find it ironic that he might be getting paid more, but he wins less. I’m just saying, he had it MADE  in WV. Cause that state takes their football almost as seriously as Texas does, so for Rodriguez, who you know didn’t ever hardly pay for anything, because he was Rich Rodriguez.&nbsp to leave was dumb. it was lat out dumb. I mean honestly, for a few years I thought WV was going to rename their state “The Robert C Byrd-Rodriguez tate” They loved him. But then he quit, so now everyone hates him cause he sold out to Michagan…
             …anyway, the point is that those eople like Rodriguez in NCAA or like Roethlisberger or T.O. in the NFL (no offense to Steelers/Cowboys fans, but come on now, we all know those guys are jerks) still can’t ruin the game for me when the NFL was graced with guys like Pat Tillman, and Bret Favre, and Payton Manning, and Chad Ochocinco (I love that guy).
It reminds me of life a bit to be honest with you, there are those people in our lives that we would probably be a bit happier if we didn’t have to deal with them as much, but then there are the other guys who remind us how to laugh, who remind us what kind of players we should be, and most importantly who remind us the kind of people we should be.
Even with the heroes of the pig-skin, the NFL still pushes my buttons every now and again.
                Take Mr. Ochocinco. In honor of Spanish heritage month, during a warm-up for a game, Chad Ochocino wore tape with the words “Ocho Cinco” over his last name, and before the game a team member ripped off the tape, so it was just a harmless little acknowledgement to Hispanics. I thought it was cute, but the NFL disagreed and decided instead that it was worth a five thousand dollar fine. Granted, that is like five dollars to us, but its not the amount it’s the principal that gets under my skin. Mr. Ochocinco appariently agreed because he decided to legally change his name from Johnson, to Ochocinco. You see what the NFL did there?
They just took a harmless little action and decided to ruin the fun for everyone involved by basically sending the message to other players “we don’t allow players with personalities in the NFL, you guys all have to be jerks, and never smile or do anything fun…or respectful”
                I mention ‘respectful’ because of what Payton Manning tried to do. When Johnny U. died, the guy who was pretty much the father of modern football and one of P. Manning’s heroes, you know that guy, NFL? Remember him?….anyway when Johnny Unitas died, Payton wanted to wear black cleats in memoriam, but the NFL so nicely pointed out that the Colts didn’t wear black cleats, they wore white cleats, and they threatened to charge Payton over ten thousand dollars if he wore them. [Cause I forgot the NFL cared about the players’ shoes clashing with their uniforms….]
                But I guess the NFL balances that out with not even giving Rothlesblahblablahbla&nbsp (aka Rothlesburger) a slap on the wrist for being a bad example to young kids for driving his motorcycle recklessly without a helmet and crashing, and also for generally being a jerkface. That is okay, but it is absolutely not allowed at all that Payton Manning creates a fashon fau paux in honor of a hero to pretty much the entire Leauge of football….

So the moral of the story: It’s okay to act in unsportsman like ways, but never ever clash black shoes with a white uniform.

The NFL didn’t think Chad Ochocinco’s attempted “bribe” was funny at all as No. 85 was fined $20,000 by the league for his $1.00 antic

You can call it the “No Fun League” all you want.  But as soon as Cincinnati Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco playfully tried to bribe an NFL official with a $1.00 bill during a replay in the third quarter of his team’s win over the Baltimore Ravens last week, you knew No. 85 was going to get a call from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.  Though the official quickly put the kibosh on the situation, it didn’t take long for the NFL to fine the Bengals audacious receiver. 

On Friday, it was learned that the league had indeed handed down fine to Ochocinco to the tune of $20,000 for his mock bribe and for using the word “bribe” in his post-game comments.  Some may find Ocho Cinco’s antics funny or hilarious – personally I think he is a self-promoter who needs to watch Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald to see what a true “Future H.O.F” looks like.  But obviously the NFL wants no part of any assumption of bribery or game-fixing in their midst…even if it is another prank from the league’s court jester.

Thursday night games start up again when the Bears take on the 49ers on the NFL Network. Vernon Davis came out this week and said the front line of the Bears is not impressive and this will give the Bears billboard material. He went on and on about the front line of the Bears defense and how the 49ers will take care of them. He even mentioned that no one on the Bears defense can check him. Think the Bears are reading this?

Today, I think I am, yet again, going to be easily annoyed by stupid little things.  For instance, have you ever noticed how freaking loud your typewriter is?  I was thinking this morning that it was simply the POUNDING typing skills of a coworker; but, alas, typing this is a pissing me off as well.

What else could be bad, you might ask?  Well, how about the damned Packers losing to the completely hapless Bucs?  Does that work for you?  <insert hysterical screaming/crying/blaming combo here>  Yeah?  How about that the Clots were able to pull one out against the Texans, but yet, I have to listen to how great they are – they’re undefeated, you know – twenty thousand times today!

Okay.  Deep breaths.  At least the Saints won and are still undefeated.  They could kill the Clots, but hopefully, Hottie Tom Brady and the Pats can do that this coming weekend.  Ha!  Now I’ve gotten myself humming a new tune: “Hottie Tom is coming to town…“

Since my last post, baseball sucked and Michigan football hasn’t been much better.  Purdue beat the Wolverines at Michigan Stadium for the first time since 1966 or something equally as ridiculous.  I know, I know, they’re still doing better than they did last year, but COME ON!  It’s Purdue!  Damn it.

The DH is looking for a new job.  Fortunately, we were able to have a heads-up on this looming period of unemployment, so we’re one step ahead of the game.  His boss, who I will lovingly call “Waffle House”, is trying to get him hired into the company full-time.  That, however, may mean a move.  I’m cool with that.  It’s time to get out of Indy, I think.

In good news, I only have to work three says this week, my Dad turns 50, and I got real-life letters from one of my two soldiers.  I was so stinking excited to get those two pieces of “Free mail” that I grinned all day Saturday (even around that stupid Michigan loss).  On Friday afternoon, I was buying some supplies to ship off to my soldiers, and I ended up telling about four other people about Soldiers’ Angels – hopefully one of them will go and check it out.  Why don’t you go and do the same: www.soldiersangels.org.

The Chiefs will be without Larry Johnson but this a good thing as they face the Jags on Sunday. The Jaguars have been a shaky proposition at home, failing to get the money in nine of 11 and dropping seven straight as favorites. The Chiefs have cashed 18 of 24 on the highway following a double-digit defeat and nine straight after allowing more than 35 points to a division foe. With a new running back and a cancer removed the Chiefs will play better. The Jags should not be laying this much chalk to anyone. Jacksonville has had a rough season and this will be their lowest point as they could end up on the losing end of this game. The Jaguars are 4-17 ATS in their last 21 games on grass and 1-10 ATS in their last 11 games as a favorite. Take the Chiefs to surprise and this should be the coming out party for RB Jamaal Charles who is taking over for Larry Johnson. Look for him to run for over 100 yards and the Chiefs to pay out at the betting window!

CLEVELAND – One day after the Cleveland Browns openly discussed reaching out to NBA superstar LeBron James to join their team, the organization quickly “Drew” up another plan to turn its season around.

Coach Eric Mangini booked an early Thursday flight out to Los Angeles, where he’s expected to meet with “The Price Is Right” host and Cleveland native, Drew Carey. The meeting will take place at Jumbo’s Clown Room in Hollywood, according to dancer, Two Legs and Two Breasts, who says Carey let the “kitty cat” out of the bag yesterday while visiting the establishment.

“Drew was here for his usual power hour, and while I was giving him his ninth lapdance, it just came out,” she said. “After I put it back in his pants, he told me.”

Is the Price Right for Carey to join the Browns?

Mangini sees Carey, who last played football Saturday night on his XBox, as a potential left tackle to protect quarterback Brady Quinn’s blind side, according to Browns sources.

“If Drew can block Brady and LeBron can get open, I smell a big second half for us,” said one team insider. “Drew could literally ‘Carey’ us to victory.”

The team insider, who then laughed at his joke for the next four minutes, also shared another joke about the Browns.

“What do you get now when you play the Browns on a Sunday?” he asked. “A victory … Get it?”

The Browns have a lot of work to do if they’re going to pry Carey away from his cush TV gig. Carey is under a contract with CBS and Freemantle Media that pays him in the high seven figures per season, and the Browns will have to buy out his contract if he is going to suit up.

The team will also have to find a tailor to customize a uniform big enough to cover Carey.

“He don’t even shop here no more,” said Ralphie Zingerslope, manager of the Burbank Big & Tall Shop. “I got nothin’ that fits him.”

Carey wouldn’t return calls at his home, office or any strip club within a 75-mile radius of Hollywood.

James, when told of Mangini’s meeting with the boob tube star, had nothing to add.

“I’m focusing on one thing only and that’s tomorrow’s game against the Pacers,” said James, whose sneakers bore the initials, T.P.I.R. at the team’s practice.

“LeBron James! Come on down!” said a voice over the loud speaker.

“Sorry, gotta go,” smiled James, who darted down the court.

Mangini, in his first year with the Browns, has led the team to a 1-8 record, tied for the league worst. Cleveland has scored a mere 78 points, the lowest in the National Football League.

Mangini could be reached for comment, but he is too boring to print.
