So here’s my story.

November 16th was a great day for me and my family. Around 11:30am my family got a phone call that my brother and sister-in-law would be making their way to the hospital and we should join them for the arrival of my niece! We were very excited to say the least.

I decided to drive separately from my parents so we could have an extra car if necessary. Because I was excited to get to OKC before my niece was born – I decided to set my cruise control so I wouldn’t get pulled over for speeding. Everything was going great.

The sky was clear. The highway was deserted. All was well. Or so I thought.

About an hour into my journey I noticed a police car pull off the shoulder and merge onto the highway. I looked to make sure my cruise was set just in case. He pulled behind me and followed for a few miles. Then I thought “maybe he wants the fast lane to himself so I’ll pull over to the right.” I did everything a good driver should do. I signaled well in advance and kindly switched lanes. Hmmm – the officer switched lanes too. What on earth was going on?

Next thing I know his lights were flashing. I pulled onto the shoulder and awaited my fate.

The officer was very kind and asked me to join him in his police car. He asked if I knew why he pulled me over and honestly I had no clue. Long story short…apparently my cruise control reads 5mph UNDER the speed limit. He gave me a written warning and stated that “If I want to drive slower than the speed limit than I should stay in the right lane.” Really?! I was trying not to get pulled over for speeding and here I am in the officers car because I was going too slow! That’s never happened before! Nevertheless – the officer was very kind and congratulated me on becoming a first-time aunt.

At least I’ll have a comical story to tell my niece one day!

This morning, like every weekday morning, I got the kids up and herded them downstairs and let them snuggle under blankets on the couch while I got their breakfast.

This morning, like almost every weekday morning, the television was tuned to the news, because I’d been up watching it and having coffee since the IO woke me up at 5:30.

This morning, unlike most weekday mornings, Goat #2 was wide awake and cheerful and giggly, and when I tucked her in, she said “Sofa children?”

This morning, like any morning when Goat #2 is in a playful mood, she made me laugh out loud and I nodded and agreed “Yes, sofa children.”

This morning, unlike any other morning, instead of smiling happily that I found her amusing, Goat #2 actually cackled with glee at me and yelled “Sofa Children!” like it was the funniest thing she’d ever heard.

This morning, unlike most mornings, grumpy not-morning-goat Goat #1 laughed out loud, too, and exchanged a glance with Goat #2 over (what I thought was) her cleverness.

And then, this morning became like every other morning since Goat #1 was born, when he shattered my illusions* by saying “She wants a SHOW FOR CHILDREN, Mom.”

Like, DUH.

————————

* Two days before Goat #1 was born, at what turned out to be my last prenatal appointment, the doctor affirmed a “very healthy 8 poundsish little girl to be born in about two weeks.” Two days later, my 9 pound, 12 ounce boy made his debut.

P.S. I hate to finally post again without addressing the long absence, but we’ll consider that part of the theme today, shall we? I simply had to share this; I have a zillion things I want to post/share/get out of my head, but they’ll have to hold just a bit longer. However, I DID find my camera (poor maligned IO, accused of eating it) so I should be posting some very cute pictures soon, as well as dumping the contents of my scattered brain for (all seven of) you to enjoy.

I love Say Anything…

Since this song is a hidden masterpiece from their EP days and has no video worthy of posting I figured that this chick named Julia Nunes who covers pretty much everything that is good in music with a Ukulele, guitar and strange piano/flute thing haha was a perfect because she is artistically eccentric and funny. If I didn’t already love and date an artistically eccentric and funny girl i would try and date her but that would not happen because she thinks i am ugly haha.

For all you Nashvillians out there, and for those of you who are interested in urban development, Nashville is doing an absolutely fantastic job of bringing more into downtown! It’s not all office buildings and honky tonks anymore. Downtown is developing into a destination point for entertainment of all sorts thanks to places like the Sommet Center. Work will soon begin on the Nashville Music City Center located on Demonbreun between 5th and 7th (right next to the Country Music Hall of Fame and behind Sommet). The images are beautiful and the building is inspired by patterns in music.

site location

renderings of building

On top of all of that, Nashville is also bidding to be awarded the Medical Trade Center. This is a project many cities are wanting to have developed in their own city. We are in competition with several big cities including Cleveland, OH. And Nashville is still in the running! It looks as though this new building will replace the existing convention center and promises to push to building the Music City Center (above).

After the developments of the Signature Tower had dropped the scale and now has ceased forward progress, we could certainly use a building like this to update our skyline. Go Nashville!

One of the many other reasons I love Chicago is its winter holiday season and city decorations. While the bitter winter wind and knee-high slush might not seem so great in February, the holiday decorations that come prior to this make living in Chicago worth it. No small town does lights and bows like Chicago, whose theme tends to be expensive, expansive and extravagant.

One of the places all Chicagoans must visit during the holiday season is Daley Plaza, where the Chicago City Tree stands each season. Just more than a week ago the annual tree-lighting took place, and now the entire city twinkles with holiday lights. In conjunction with the Chicago Christmas Tree (rumored to be more than 90 feet tall), Daley Plaza is home to Christkindlmarket until Christmas day.

Christkindlmarket is one of the largest German markets in the U.S. Each year it offers visitors a festive and unique shopping experience where venders actually sell traditional German food and trinkets. Having recently visited Germany, its holiday traditions and decorations are some of my favorite — I highly encourage anyone in the area to check the festival market out.

i’m getting so excited about the holidays! but even more exciting then that, is the fact that i’ve finally finished my last assignment for this semester. ”lighting for shape and form” are a lot harder then i thought… hardest of all was shooting metal… darn you specular highlights!!!!

however, in the end, my metal photo (re-shot 3 times) is my favourite

Just curious, did anyone actually get up to get any of the items I listed on my previous post? I think the scariest thing I saw today was the Jefferson County Sheriffs Deputies and STEEL FENCING that surrounded the entrance to Walmart. Just an FYI most of those deals that I mentioned are available online and will ship for free or a discounted rate. I actually did manage to snag 2 of those 8gig Ultra II CF cards at Staples for $19.99. Tell me what you got and if its still available. Thanks.
