The new PlayStation 3 “Montage” commercial has been on TV for a couple of weeks now, but it was only just yesterday that I noticed some (very) subtle product placement for a big name in the R/C hobby.

Take a look to the left of VP of Epic Footage, Kevin Butler.  I’ve circled it in red so you can’t miss it.

That to me looks like the HPI Racing E10 Ford GT LM Race Car Spec II designed by Gran Turismo.

Awesome car.

It doesn’t really mean much, the car is just a cool prop in the background, but still, a pretty neat find for those in the know.  Check out the HD video on YouTube.

Today’s quite a quiet day for car news, but I’ve found something to talk about anyways. It is a few days old, but nonetheless, here goes.

A few days ago, Funkmaster Flex had a live chat from SEMA. For those of you who don’t know, Funkmaster Flex (Aston George Taylor Jr.) is a famous DJ and musician on a radio channel in New York City. He won the 2009 Urban Music Award for Best DJ. He does some Ford tuning, and his latest creation is a Ford Taurus SHO, which appeared at SEMA.

Looks pretty good if you ask me. Anyways, the point is, I’ve dug up this chat and here’s a log. I was there and one of the questions is mine. See if you can spot it:

Historia tego samochodu sięga lat 60-tych XX wieku, a jako, że okres ten to średniowiecze motoryzacyjne, to trzymam się od niego z daleka. Ale, żeby było wiadomo o co chodzi z tym samochodem, to szefowie Forda w tamtym okresie postanowili dokopać Ferrari i stworzyli super samochód, który – dosłownie – dym*ł samochody z Maranello na każdym kroku. Nazwa GT40 wzięła się od tego, że był wysoki na czterdzieści stóp, co na nasz język oznacza, że był dosyć niski i nie każdy mógł się tam zmieścić. Ostatni sukces GT40 święciło w roku 1969, kiedy po raz ostatni wygrało prestiżowy wyścig Le Mans 24, kończąc razem serię czterech zwycięstw pod rząd. I to by było na tyle z lekcji historii. Czas na teraźniejszość.

W roku 2001 Ford ogłosił, że pracuje nad prototypem o nazwie GT40, który w przeciwieństwie do GT90 ma trafić do sprzedaży. Tak odbiegając, wie ktoś co stało się z tą kupą brzydoty z 90 na końcu? W styczniu 2002 na salonie samochodowym w Detroit został pokazany całemu światu, a w 2003 ruszyła jego produkcja. W marcu pojawiły się trzy pierwsze egzemplarze, które były poddawane wszystkim testom, po to aby w październiku 2004 samochód był dopracowany. A nie był, o czym może powiedzieć Jeremy Clarkson z Top Gear, który kupił ten samochód, potem oddał Fordowi, a następnie znowu odkupił tylko i wyłącznie dlatego, że nie dopracowali alarmu, który włączał się bez potrzebny lub uniemożliwiał ruszenie. W najgorszym wypadku wyłączał zapłon, ponieważ system namierzania uznawał, że ktoś go ukradł. A był to właściciel…

Sam samochód nie odziedziczył nazwy GT40, ponieważ Ford sprzedał prawa nazwy firmie Safir Engineering, przez co mamy Forda GT. Wyglądem przypomina legendę motoryzacji, jednak jest o trzy cale wyższy, przez co praktycznie każdy, poza żyrafą, może się tam zmieścić. I – o mamo! – ten wygląd! Pokażcie mi drugi samochód, który ma takie przecudowne wgniecenia na masce. Albo te drzwi, które wchodzą niczym w oryginale w dach, przez co musisz mieć dużo miejsca obok, aby móc wysiąść i wsiąść do samochodu. Niestety, jeśli jedziesz do sklepu np. po mleko to, tam gdzie jest bagażnik ono w ogóle się nie zmieści. Tam NIC się nie zmieści, a wszystko właśnie przez te wgniecenia. To boli, szczególnie, że posiadanie takiego samochodu, to coś wspaniałego, nie licząc problemów z elektroniką, z paliwem, z brakiem miejsca do parkowania oraz z ceną. Ford nas docenił i w konsekwencji europejski GT jest droższy o 40% niż amerykański. Tylko pomyśleć, ile Fordów GT jeździłoby po Europie, gdyby nie pazerność Jankesów…
