The Switzerland-headquartered food giant Nestlé has launched a collagen containing instant coffee as part of its Nescafé body partner range.

The range is part of Nestlé Malaysia’s product offering and according to press reports the only country that has seen the introduction of the collagen containing coffee is Singapore.

Nescafé’s Body Range also includes a instant coffee that contains high calcium milk and a version that contains tongkat ali and ginseng, two compounds thought to increase libido.

The product is part of the beauty from within trend which is tipped for significant growth globally and is particularly advanced in the Asian markets.

Etiney targets anti-ageing with açai berry extract

Netherlands-based Etiney Cosmetics is targeting the growing beauty from within trend with its newly launched range of organic açai berry ingredients.

The company says it is marketing the ingredients in powder, pulp, butter and scrub forms, on the strength of the açai’s extraordinary anti-oxidant properties, which in turn serves to make it a strong tool in the fight against visible signs of skin ageing.

When açai was tested for its Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (ORAC), which determines anti-oxidant properties, it was verified by the USDA to have a level of 640, almost double that of the next best performing fruit, wild black berries.

Açai has strong anti-oxidant properties

Açai also outpaced other extracts readily incorporated into anti-aging treatments, proving to have 10 times the antioxidant value of red grapes and 30 times the antioxidant value of red wine.

As well as anti-oxidant properties, the açai is abundant in essential fatty acids such as Omega 3, Omega 6, and Omega 9 as well as vitamins such as B1, B2, B3, B12, E, and C, minerals such as phosphorus, calcium, and potassium, together with polyphenols, anthocyanins, and phytosterols.

According to the company, the açai berries are harvested in the Amazon rainforests and then have to be immediately freeze dried as a powder because the fruit perishes extremely quickly, depleting the efficacy of its active properties.

Variety of cosmetic applications

In its powder form, the ingredient is said to be ideal for products such as lotions, balms, anti-ageing serums, after-sun formulations, anti-wrinkle creams, facial products, bar soaps and shower gel, in doses of between 2 – 5 per cent

In pulp form it is recommended in lotions, balms, anti-ageing serums, after-sun formulations, anti-wrinkle creams, and facial products, while in butter form it is recommended for bodymilk/creams, creams, after-sun formulations and serums, again with a dose of between 2 – 5 per cent.

For scrub formulations, 85 per cent of particles are said to be less than 240 microns in size and the ingredient is recommended for bar soaps, facial cleansers, shower gel, and massage products.

It was very brisk out in the main garden this morning..

Frost everywhere..all over the grass, or do I mean..moss?

But on my usual morning constitutional I noticed my Mahonia bush was in full bloom.

Its been hidden from view by The Badly Pruned Hebe..lets see if it survives the winter : if it doesn’t I may rejoice greatly…

I adore mahonias. For most of the year they are just an evergreen tree with spiky holy like foliage

But now in the depths of winer they are beacons of bright yellow which are very cheering…and very fragrant

The long racemes of tiny blooms posses the msot delicious scent reminiscnet of lily of the valley.

And I adore their growth habit- it is elegant, rather like a well-balanced cake stand. I love winter …sometimes…..

Top 5 Favorite Perfumes

I must admit I am addicted to fragrances, there I said it! It doesn`t matter if there in the form of luxurious body lotions, foaming shower gels or beautiful Yankee Candles (there my favorite), I have to be surrounded by nice smells every day.

Also I don`t believe in just one perfume to use as a signature, I find that quite boring and no fun. Usually I choose the scent of the day depending on what I am wearing, where I am going or how I am feeling. For example, I am not going to wear my Chanel Chance if I am going to spend my day in tracksuit bottoms in the park ( I would choose DKNY Green Apple for that).

My collection of perfumes is continuously growing, I honestly can not resist a new perfume. I love the bottles, the packaging and even the adverts and their promises… I am really hooked.

At this stage my collection consists of 21(!) wonderful fragrances and I will outline for now my favorite 5 :

From Left to Right:

Kenzo Amour - this is a soft, sexy and feminine perfume that I wear generally when i go out. Has notes of Frangipani Blossoms, Cherry Blossoms, Tanakha Wood, Incense, Thai Rice Steam, Vanilla of La Réunion and White Tea.
Kenzo Flower – like the name sais, it`s a lovely flowery fragrance with a powdery scent. It is ideal for day time, has notes of bulgarian rose and parma violet.
Vicktor and Rolf Flower Bomb - its the ultimate flower scent (you can sense a pattern in my chooices :P), as it has notes of jasmine, rose, freesia, orchids and patchuli. Every time when I use it I feel ultra feminine and get lots of compliments.
Marc Jacobs Daisy - by far my favorite! I dont know if it has mood enhancers, but every time I wear it I feel a bit happier . I usually wear it every day at work to add a bit of sunshine in my day. It has mixte notes of fruit (strawberry, red grapefruit), flowers (gardenia, violet, jasmine) and a bit of vanilla and musk. This is the only fragrance that I buy in Eau de Toilette, it just smells better on me.
Nina Ricci Nina – love the perfume and body lotion matching it. Its my favorite choice in the winter time, as it is a bit heavier than what i usually use. Nina has a lovely warming scent that just comforts me thro the wintery days, with notes of caramelized apple, lemon, vanilla and musk . I really can`t resist!

HSN Adds Some Flava: Rapper-Entrepreneur Sean 'Diddy' Combs Premieres His Fragrances On The Home Shopping Network

Sean “Diddy” Combs made his debut on HSN Monday, as did his fragrance line.

His motto seemed to be that he likes his grandfather, but he doesn’t want to smell like him. Hence the fragrances (but we hope grandpa wasn’t watching).

Combs’ products were such a hit during his first show at 11 p.m. that they all sold out. So HSN had to cancel his second scheduled show at 1 a.m., since there was no merchandise left to sell.

For Combs’ debut HSN CEO Mindy Grossman opened the company wallet and had a new set built, which looked like a sophisticated penthouse, and even had the Manhattan skyline in the background. Puff Daddy was laid back and modest, rather charming for a mogul with a multi-million dollar empire in music, fashion, TV, movies and fragrances.

“It’s a great way to reach people all over the world…I made it on HSN mom,” Combs said during his home shopping debut, where he fielded many calls from overwrought fans. “I’m blessed to be here.”

More than any of the other shopping networks, HSN has courted the African-American market, by bringing vendors in such as the hair-care line Carol’s Daughter, David Bowie’s wife Iman, and now Combs.

Talking about his award-winning men’s fragrance, I Am King, Combs said, “This is not a celebrity fragrance.”

The rapper said he helped design the cologne, in partnership with Estee Lauder. It has won the FiFi Award, which Combs called “the Oscars” of the perfume industry.

“I have a very sensitive nose,” said Combs, who described I Am King as being “a clean scent.”

He said, “I don’t like things that are overbearing.”

The name I Am King was not a boast, according to Combs, but a positive affirmation for everyone.

“I was talking about the king in all of us,” Combs said. “If we as men act as kings, we will respect our women as queens.”

Those are great sentiments, but we can’t help but note that Combs has a somewhat checkered past, which includes an arrest on a weapons charge — when he was with his then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez — following a nightclub shooting in Manhattan. Scorpios like Combs often have a dark side.

We remember tabloid stories about an upset Lopez being dragged down to the police station with Combs the night he was arrested. Doesn’t sound very queenly. Well, that was almost 10 years ago. Leopards can change their spots.

Host Callie Northagen did the show. She seems to be HSN’s ace for interviewing high-profile talent, including Madonna and singer Natalie Cole.

HSN was also selling the men’s and women’s fragrance lines Sean John Unforgivable. The kits and gift sets ranged in price from $57 to $78. There was also a fleece robe for $60.

Combs has a vast empire, and even produced and was a judge for the MTV show “Making the Band.”

He also claimed he was a fan of the No. 2 home shopping channel.

“Sometimes when you watch HSN, you get stuck there for hours,” Combs said.
