Była zombiekalipsa, była robokalipsa, była spółdzielnio-plebixokalipsa, a teraz przyszedł czas na najmniejszą z apokalips – micro(anuso)kalipsę. Francis Lawrence – stwór odpowiedzialny za Jestem legendą, został reżyserem opartego na komiksie Michaela Hague’a filmu In the Small.

Za scenariusz adaptacji odpowiada debiutantka – Laura Harrington. No dobra, to znamy podstawy, ale co to do cholery jest microkalipsa(tm)? Ano miała miejsce tajemnicza eksplozja, efektem której jest to, że wszyscy ludzie na planecie mają po 6 cali wzrostu. Jak nietrudno się domyślić – łańcuch pokarmowy uległ przeszeregowaniu, a micronuski muszą stworzyć nowe społeczeństwo, gotowe na odpieranie nieustannych ataków mruczusia i bombardowań przez stada gołębi.

The First Chapter of What Could Have Been the Greatest Novel Ever

This is the opening chapter of the book that I posted a random chapter of last Friday. I will also post a random chapter tomorrow. I thought I should at least post the first chapter sooner than later. It is a short chapter. Shorter than the other chapter and filled with less horror sex like the last one. To fill the void in your holidays here is the first chapter. Sorry it isn’t longer, that’s what she said.

Hmmm… I’ll also add in a music video to make this post feel longer. I like Lady Gaga. I like Francis Lawrence. And guess what? They made a video together. “Bad Romance” is the first single as far as I know from Lady Gaga’s new album “Fame Monster”. And you read that correctly, I do like Lady Gaga. She looks great in this video. The video and the song reminds me a lot of Annie Lennox and Madonna. I do have to say that I admit I am playing to my crowd a bit. I’m not posting videos of bands like The Chariott which I like as well (namely the song “Teach”). So I’ll stick to the dance/pop songs for this website.

If you do feel so inclined to hear more Lady Gaga or feel like memorizing things I prophesize and checking if they come true, the song “Teeth” by Lady Gaga is going to be huge.

10:33am – Wednesday

My name is Benjamin Calthase and I am a 24 year old graduate of a small liberal arts university you have never heard of with a BA in Sociology and a minor in Computer Engineering. I am 6 foot 2 and 200 pounds. I am white, I have sandy blonde hair, green eyes, I am out of shape and I have begun to question the decisions in my life that have led me to this present failure where I currently reside.

My dignity aside, I am wearing a white t-shirt splattered with condiment stains, basketball shorts I’ve never played basketball in and a pair of knee high white tube socks. I am watering my driveway. Technically it is not my driveway. It is my parents’ driveway. I have a garden hose in my right hand and I am slowly turning like a sprinkler soaking my parents’ new paved driveway. Unless this is a practical joke that my parents have pulled on me, you need to water a new paved driveway. It might be because it is the middle of summer and 90+ degrees with even more humidity here in residential suburban New Jersey. I didn’t bother to ask why I needed to water the driveway because it was not like I could say no.

I am unemployed and spend my days playing Call of Duty, jerking off, eating fast food, jerking off, watching my dog, downloading porn for tomorrow and wondering when God will grant/bestow upon me one of the jobs I randomly apply to online. Alluring subjects like “Entry-level” and “No experience required”, how could I not send them my pencil thin resume and a half-assed cover letter feigning all the excitement one could have for a data entry position at a non-profit for barely above minimum wage.

I’m sweating it is so hot. I’m just standing here watching the hose spew out gallon after gallon of clean water onto this hot black asphalt driveway. All I can think about are the poor Africans that we, Americans, are always so concerned about. Each and every one of those poor bastards dying in a genocide, dying from diseases, all dying from not having clean water and here I am in New Jersey standing here just hosing down this inanimate mass that I park my car on with the very same water that could save all their lives. That whole continent is just dying. Always dying.

Just imagine someone in some distant country taking all the edible food that one would need to keep them alive and taking that food and spreading it all over the ground and then running it all over with their car. I feel shitty about this. It is such a waste.

I’m hungry…

I don’t feel like making anything. I think I’ll just order a pizza. I should order it as soon as I finish this watering. You know what? I think I’ll download some of those porn videos where there is a pizza delivery guy and he sticks his dick through a hole in the bottom of the box and the half-naked fake boobed housewife or a freshman sorority chick he delivers it to opens the box and says something about wanting his big sausage. That will be a good theme for the day: eat a pizza then jerkoff to porn videos with pizza in it. I need to think of something to identify today from every other day or I won’t have any frame of reference. All these days bleed into each other and they never end.

Those poor Africans. All this water could be theirs. All this clean cold water for a lifeless slab of road for my parents to put their cars on.

Oh yeah, I live with my parents. Pathetic.

In the Small - What would you do if you were six inches tall? Francis Lawrence may show us

Francis Lawrence (I am Legend) appears to be heading to the land of the giants with his next film, In the Small.

The story begins with the cataclysmic event of a blue light that washes over the Earth and causes everyone to shrink to a sixth of their normal size which means that humans are in danger from some serious predators.

The book follows two characters Mouse and Beatrix who round up survivors and group them together to make a new society. After the event Beatrix begins building a sustainable community in the house she and her family lived in, while Mouse returns from the city leading a group home.

How does that grab you? On the plus side overpopulation is no longer a worry plus there will be lots of carnage caused by cats, mice, insects etc killing people!

It is based on an original graphic novel by children’s book illustrator Michael Hague (The Wind in the Willows, The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle, The Wizard of Oz). I hadn’t heard of it until Filmstalker mentioned it. I like the sound of it and todays technology means it should be quite a bit better than Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.
Author Michael Hague chatted to Newsarama about the graphic novel.

“I’d actually had the idea for a long time. When the kids were little, in the summertime, we used to pose little questions for them, little projects to keep their minds sharp during the summer. And one of the ideas was, “Could we survive if we were six inches tall?” (laughs) It was kind of hard for them to wrap their heads around that idea. But that’s where it came from.”

At first it looked as if he was going to go the route of DC Comics the Atom and have everyone retain their normal sized strength.

“I actually talked to a scientist about this. He thought that if we were to shrink down to six inches tall, we might retain super-strength like ants – the muscle mass would be super-dense. I had that in at the beginning, but decided to take it out. It was just getting too odd. (laughs) As far as science in the book, there wasn’t a lot!”

The book ends with a cliffhanger of sorts, but it there is already a sequel which will no doubt make the whole thing more attractive to the studios.

“I’ve written another one. It has the same sort of ending, where it looks like this might continue. I always liked stories that ended like that – “This isn’t the end, everything isn’t all nicely wrapped up, the story continues.” And yes, I would like to continue doing these.”

Hague was also made up with the fact the book was optioned to be a film before it was even published.

“It’s been pretty amazing, actually! My agent in New York had contacted an agent in CAA, and he agreed to take the project on, and someone contacted him…and one day I got a phone call asking if I was willing to take a group call with Warner Brothers and Weed Road Pictures, because they had an offer for the movie. I asked my agent if it always happens like this, and he said, “No, it never happens like this!” So in the span of about four hours, I had a movie deal! And it’s been very exciting.”

The Brilliant Freak Show of Lady Gaga

I’m very, very new to this whole Lady Gaga thing. And after taking in what little has been presented to me over the last few days, I’m eager to see and hear more. I’m looking forward to seeking out everything she’s put out there that I haven’t had a chance to witness yet and see just how I feel about it.

I’ll present the evidence to you in the same way I experienced it. I’d heard the references to Lady Gaga’s clothes and craziness and even the strange rumor that she’s a hermaphrodite (pretty sure it’s not true). But in all that time in the last couple of months, I didn’t hear any music of hers. I ended up seeing the music video for “Poker Face,” which was intriguing if a little underwhelming. It was good, and weird, but I wasn’t drawn into it.

Then I saw her new video for “Bad Romance”:

This video is fucking awesome. The song is goddamn great. It took a few views to confirm this, but now I’m a believer. The Lady Gaga experience is supremely entertaining, and while she clearly has an entire creative crew working behind her, I know that this all stems from what she embraces creatively. All of the abrasive, outlandish aesthetics of her image are perfectly calculated and, in my opinion, never miss a beat.

I’m also appreciative of her new album’s title, The Fame Monster, and how this song embraces the monster motif in the costumes and choreography. I love the inspiration from ALIEN, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, NOSFERATU, Coppola’s DRACULA, and even some “Thriller” thrown in for good measure. I’m sure there are others I haven’t even picked up on yet. I really dig those white latex costumes at the beginning that looks like the xenomorph from ALIEN mixed with the Bride of Frankenstein mixed with the Mouth of Sauron. Much of the choreography is well-conceived yet straightforward, but then you have these awkward, jerky parts, with arms locked in the air, claws outstretched, like Count Orlok from NOSFERATU or the she-bitch from ARMY OF DARKNESS. I really enjoy the mishmash of visual influences, and enjoy it all the more combined with the futuristic sci-fi dance aesthetics.

A little credit must be thrown toward director Francis Lawrence, but not reluctantly. He helped hone her ideas and figure out how to pull it off, combining horror and pop without totally losing the audience. His work also shows off a bit of her acting abilities as well, a good sign for the future expansion of her art. I’m a sucker for those uber-dramatic extreme close-ups on her red, teary eyes. She also has a terrifying spine.

To me, she is that perfect combination of talent and showmanship that made Marilyn Manson so much fun back in the day. If Mechanical-Animals-era Marilyn Manson teamed up with Lady Gaga in her present form, I think they would be unstoppable. I think they would destroy us all.

I must say, however, that all of this gushing isn’t based only on the “Bad Romance” video. I believe the very same day, shortly thereafter, I saw the following video of Lady Gaga before she was Lady Gaga. It’s a video of her performing two songs on piano at a talent show at NYU, as Stefani Germanotta:

The difference between these two is night and day, and seeing how she took her phenomenal singing, songwriting, and composition talents and developed it into her Lady Gaga persona is fascinating to me. And as far as I can tell, this image she’s created is of her own doing, her own idea of what she wanted her musical experience to be.

Now, I know I’ve only scratched the surface, and perhaps my perceptions and opinions could be obliterated upon further investigation, but I doubt it. The pop know-how and euro/80s-synth dance displayed so far has me confident it will be something I can appreciate. My hope is that as her fanbase increases, it frees her to experiment all the more with her already bold musical persona.

Continuando con la celebracion de los 30 años del Moca, como era logico organizaron una fiesta a la que asistieron infinadad de gorrones famosos, entre ellos nuestra querida Tranny Gaga, en el evento no perdio oportunidad de lucir uno de sus espantosos modelitos y de promocionar su nuevo sencillo “bad romance”, la verdad es que Gagaloo ultimamente se ve mas delgada y freaky que de costumbre, pero no hay que negar que no pierde su encanto de excentricidad XD.

Mon préféré : Francis Lawrence

Une journée comme les autres, j’étais assise devant mon ordinateur avec ouverte la page d’accueil de Facebook. Dans les nouvelles affichées j’ai trouvé un élément qui a attiré mon attention, “Bad Romance” en était le titre, “la dernière vidéo de Lady Gaga, le phénomène musical du moment et nouvelle icône de la musique internationale”.

Lady Gaga est une chanteuse particulière, non pas à cause de ses chansons pop, mais pour les vêtements excentriques qu’elle porte et qu’elle conçoit et dessine, de véritables oeuvres d’art pour moi! Après avoir vu la vidéo et être restée fascinée par les images, j’ai immédiatement effectué une recherche pour savoir qui était le réalisateur, et j’ai découvert qu’il n’était autre que le grand Francis Lawrence !

Ce que je veux présenter ici, c’est le travail du réalisateur de film, l’américain Francis Lawrence, mieux connu pour sa riche production de vidéo-clips, même si ses films ne sont pas moins intéressants. Francis Lawrence a débuté en 2005 dans ses premiers projets derrière la caméra, même si en réalité il avait déjà travaillé dans le monde du cinéma depuis l’année 1994, où il s’était occupé de la photographie d’un film japonais.

Constantine

Son premier long métrage, Constantine, est une histoire de la bande dessinée Hellblazer ; Lawrence est en mesure de diriger parfaitement les acteurs, réussissant à leur faire donner le meilleur dans les scènes encore plus difficiles. La caméra n’est pas étouffée par les effets spéciaux, mais recherche toujours les meilleurs rythmes et espaces, cherchant parfois une profondeur de champ inhabituelle pour une production à grande échelle. L’image suit la tendance de l’histoire, en nous aidant à nous plonger dans le conflit inhabituel entre deux «superpuissances», qui jouent aux échecs le sort de la terre.

I am legend

En 2007 le réalisateur revient à la charge et dirige Will Smith dans sa meilleure performance, dans I am legend extraite du roman de Richard Matheson. Plein de calme et de réflexion, il veut creuser plus profondément la psychologie du personnage et construit et l’entretient la tension grâce aussi à de longs moments d’introspection. Les émotions sont présentes et vous pouvez presque les entendre.

La photographie de Andrew Lesnie, colorée et luxuriante, remplit les yeux du spectateur et nous montre une ville abandonnée victime de la déclaration de la nature. New York est vaste mais aussi désespérément vide et immobile. L’impact est donc très fort sur le spectateur. La caméra se déplace dans la scène avec beaucoup de talent, partage les craintes et le sentiment de solitude du protagoniste. Pendant la journée, nous ressentons un sentiment de paix constant, une ville silencieuse où la lumière filtre d’entre les bâtiments, on voit des inondations de jaune dans les rues vides maintenant recouvertes par la végétation.

Deux films, à mon avis extraordinaires, plus que pour les effets spéciaux, notamment pour l’implication émotionnelle qu’ils créent chez le spectateur.

J’ai choisi de parler de lui, parce ses vidéos m’ont passionnée, avant même de savoir qui était cette personne, avant même de savoir qui était le réalisateur de ces vidéos.

Ces images m’ont fait rester des heures devant l’écran, à regarder les mêmes images qui se répétaient devant mes yeux.

Chaque fois qu’une vidéo me frappe aussi beaucoup, je rêve, rêve du jour où je créerai un produit similaire, qui collera les gens devant l’écran pendant des heures, une vidéo qui arrivera en trois jours à 10 millions de visites et 50 mille commentaires …

Quelques clips vidéos, vraiment célèbre pour la collaboration du réalisateur avec des artistes majeurs, je n’en citerai que quelques-uns, comme :

(j’en oublie beaucoup, Natalie Imbruglia, Goo Goo Dolls, Alanis Morissette, Garbage, Janet Jackson, Missy Elliott, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Child Destiny …) tous les artistes majeurs sont passés devant son appareil.

Je termine en montrant les deux vidéos pour moi les plus folles de sa carrière et je pense qu’elles ont quelque chose en commun, comme des vêtements et quelques situations bizarres de la protagoniste, poussée et harcelée par les autres personnages, aussi la pose maladroite, en terminant par le même jeu de lumière pulsée qui suit le rythme de la musique. Et juste pour vous, un “behind the scenes” que j’apprécie dans toutes les vidéos. Je pense que vous allez l’aimer, comme je suis moi-même follement amoureuse de lui …

The latest video from Lady GaGa’s brilliant single “Bad Romance” is pure excess in every single most possible way that you JUST have to see the video again and again in case you miss something in the first viewing. It has so many things going on that it is just simply a visual orgy for the eyes. The video is directed by uber pop music director Francis Lawrence (who did videos for Britney Spears and Janet Jackson and who recently directed Will Smith’s flop movie “I Am Legend”). The plot for the video is basically set in a beautiful white bath house where the Lady was kidnapped by supermodels and being sold off to some Russian mob where she blows up in the end. Hitchcock anyone? Throughout the video, GaGa is dressed to the nines in Alexander McQueen latest Spring/Summer 2010 including the famous McQueen platform claw shoes that was on every models. Only Lady GaGa can wear such heels and not look like a total idiot. Check out the polar bear outfit she dons towards the end of the video, it would be something one would wear in one’s mansion (if we have one). We dare say..best OTT music video of 2009. So far. Not even Mariah can make OTT music videos anymore.

I Want Your Love and I Want Your Revenge

All the fashion blogs have recently written about Bad Romance, Lady GaGa’s latest music video directed by Francis Lawrence. The usually daring fashion choices of the American artist have become more and more extravagant and impressive, and this can be seen in the video: GaGa’s stylist, Nicola Formichetti, and the Haus of GaGa team have created something unique and special. The most striking pieces seen on her come from Alexander McQueen spring/summer 2010 collection, Plato’s Atlantis, but any single piece and accessory tell a story.

I’ve decided to write this review with one goal in mind: I think this video pays homage to science-fiction movies and music videos of the past, from an aesthetic point of view, so I hope it will be interesting to see how science-fiction is a genre which, though looking at a distant future, constantly recalls past visions about the future.

The first scene of the video is set in a white salon, with tiles on the walls and flashing neon lights. GaGa is sitting on a white chair, surrounded by white-clad dancers and black-clad men. In the fiction of the video, she is the object of an auction, but she will get her revenge on the winner.

In this scene she’s wearing an Alexander McQueen gold embroidered dress (I love the architectural structure of the sleeves) and shoes, plus shield sunglasses made of razor blades, creepy! Some metal net pieces have been applied on her black polished finger nails, as we can see in the screenshot above. The black object she has her hand on is a Zimku Parrot stand-alone speaker tower, designed by Philippe Starck.

The second scene is an overview of the setting, including other rooms with white tiles on the walls, some Nemiroff vodka bottles, a set of white coffins with the word “Monster” [1] and a cross on them.

The lighting effects of this scene have struck my attention because they remind me of Lenny Kravitz’s If You Can’t Say No music video, directed by the great Mark Romanek in 1998. In both cases, the objects and settings are lightened by a single ray of light in the darkness, an effect which emphasizes the ideas of mystery and impending danger.

The camera then stops in front of a glass door, which leads to the Bath Haus of GaGa, a bathroom where seven white coffins are lined up. GaGa and her dancers will come out of the coffins (all are dressed in white latex) and will perform a dance routine.

The shape of the coffins recalls the coffin-shaped beds seen on True Blood’s Shake and Fingerpop (the fourth episode of the second season, when Bill, Sookie and Eric go to Dallas).

Science-fiction movies are filled with coffin-shaped beds, which are often rest but also healing places; just think of Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens, where coffin beds were used to protect the hibernated sleep of the protagonists.

The shape of the coffins also reminds me of the shape of the starship seen in Scream, the most expensive music video of all times, directed by Mark Romanek in 1999 for Micheal and Janet Jackson. The influence of Scream can be seen in the general design of the setting in Bad Romance.

The third outfit change sees GaGa wearing an Alexander McQueen black turtleneck dress and booties with metal details, black shield sunglasses and a Haus of GaGa crown hat. In this scene, she’s singing in front of a white-framed mirror.

The following scene is set in the Bath Haus of GaGa, where’s she’s having a bath in a white tub. In this case, she’s sporting her lovely pink/blonde curly hairstyle and wearing Rachel Barrett silicone rubber top and skirt, plus Alexander McQueen monster white platform pumps. What I don’t get of this scene is the look of her eyes: I don’t know if this is a special effect or just make-up, but her eyes look huge and this underlines her alien look.

Her bath is interrupted by two silicone-clad women, who force her out of the tub and give her some vodka to drink. I love this scene because it’s disquieting and because I think it’s a reference to one of my favourite movies ever, Girl, Interrupted by James Mangold, starring Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie. In particular, it refers to the infamous scene set in the bathroom: sorry but I’ve been obsessed with this scene since I first saw the movie.

Now comes the central part of the video, when the auction for a night with GaGa’s takes place. This scene is wonderful because the setting and her costumes make it special. The white bathroom is turned into a ballroom, where the protagonist is stripped of a weird letter trench coat by Vava Dudu and is left wearing just a few crystals. Note that the men are scantily clad, too: some of them wear trousers and jackets, but others are bare-chested. Another interesting detail are the animal/gas masks some of them wear, echoed by the scary Canadian Hairless cat on the lap of a man. Each man is bidding through a remote control connected to laptops, showing their bids. Just for the record, the winner “buys” her for 1,000,000 dollars.

The dance routine of GaGa and her dancers makes the room look like a stage, and this brings us back to the Nineties and to one of the most beautiful music videos of that decade, Blur’s The Universal, directed by Jonathan Glazer. Damon Albarn and his mates performe in an all-white club, a modern version of A Clockwork Orange’s Korova Milk Bar, where Alex DeLarge and his Droogs often hung out.

Another all-white setting for a dance routine is present in Kylie Minogue’s Can’t Get You Out of My Head, directed by Dawn Shadforth, a music video which heavily references to science-fiction. In the scene above, Kylie was wearing the infamous revealing white jumpsuit designed by Fee Doran, a piece so striking and sexy that turned Kylie into a sex symbol again, after years of semi-oblivion.

As for GaGa, the outfit she is sporting here includes silver shorts, a stunning mesh and crystal top and a gorgeous crystal headpiece, all custom-made creations by Franc Fernandez. In the screencaps above, her new tattoo – a Rainer Maria Rilke’s quote – on the inner part of her arm is visible.

The following scene is set in the same hall as before: now the dancers are gone and GaGa is alone among the men who have attended the auction. This is another of my favourite scenes, because it’s visually captivating: she’s standing at the centre of the hall, wearing Agent Provocateur Love black bra and panties, surrounded by a motionless rain of crystals. We get a 360° vision of GaGa amid the crystal rain, such a poetic and intense moment! She’s also wearing a lace mask by Keko Hainswheeler, Alexander McQueen monster black pumps and Benjamin Cho crystal rosaries.

People gradually disappear from the hall: now GaGa is alone, amid the white flashing lights coming from the walls. This scene is similar to the previous one, because here GaGa is again motionless, while the camera revolves around her. Lady GaGa’s unstoppable desire to experiment with fashion and her own image is symbolized by several elements – her quirky hairstyles, the beyond sexy outfits, the passion for masks and shield sunglasses, the unbelievable headpieces and the metal orb. This a creation by Nasir Mazhar (recalling Leonardo Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man) she first sported during a performance at Saturday Night Live in October 2009 [2]. She’s also wearing black bra and panties, a cut-out metal corset, shield sunglasses and Alexander McQueen pumps with metal details.

One of the latest scenes are set in the same hall: now it is empty and in half-light. Lady GaGa moves a few steps, then sits on a bench. We understand why she doesn’t walk much with those elephantic shoes. Alexander McQueen is one of my favourite designers, but I prefer his Victorian-gothic side to his futuristic views; this doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the gorgeous dress seen on GaGa, all embroidered with iridescent beads and worn with matching leggings. In this scene, GaGa is wearing her shield sunglasses again and sports a towering hairstyle, similar to the ones seen on McQueen’s runway.

The action is slowly approaching to its climax. GaGa makes an unforgettable entrance in the white hall – now turned into a bedroom – wearing a polar bear faux fur coat by Benjamin Cho. The winner of the auction – whose face is half covered by metal armour plates – is sitting on the bed, sipping vodka from a glass. He’s the only black note in a white ocean: everything is white, including GaGa’s tulle bra and panties, her Carrera Safari sunglasses, Kartell Bourgie lamps in the background and the hunting trophies on the wall [3]. Her make-up here is stunning: she pairs a heavy smokey eye with dark red lips, so dramatic [4]!

As I said before, GaGa is sold to the best auctioneer, but she strikes back with a terrible revenge, because she literally sets the bed on fire. The scene above preludes to one of the most intense moments of the video, where the bed is completely wrapped in flames and GaGa gracefully poses for the camera. A creepy touch is given by a RP Encore rat headpiece.

The video is coming to an end, but there’s a last dance routine to perform. I love the contrast between the white setting and the red costumes on GaGa (her red lace number is a creation by Alex Noble) and the dancers.

The contrast of white and red is not a prerogative of Bad Romance, because it first appeared in 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick, a movie which massively defined the concept of future in cinematography. The art directors Anthony Masters, Harry Lange and Ernest Archer created something unique and absolutely striking, because they imagined a future through the lens of the artistic avantgarde of the Sixties.

The same chromatic contrast can be found in The Universal, where the Red Man is one of the most enigmatic customers of the white club.

A touch of black humour closes the video: GaGa, wearing black lace bra and panties, her creepy rat headpiece and Alexander McQueen monster black pumps, lies on the charred bed, next to the skeleton of her lover. The metal bra she’s wearing is still sending sparks, so we guess it has been a weapon to use against her enemy. This is not the first time she has sported this weird creation by House of GaGa, because she performed at 2009 Much Music Awards in Toronto wearing it.

Just a few words about the video and the song before closing the post. I first didn’t like the song at all, but it has slowly grown on me, and now I can’t get it out of my head, so I guess it’s a perfect pop song. As for the video, I think it’s not as culturally relevant as Paparazzi [5], yet it is an interesting reflection on the opposition of love and hate in a science-fiction setting. Even if I don’t like Francis Lawrence’s style (too glossy and cold, in my opinion), it’s one of the most imaginative videos I’ve ever seen, and the evidence that GaGa is here to stay.

[5] The most striking flaw of the video are the several products advertised – the vodka, Carrera sunglasses, the speaker towers, Kartell lamps and Heartbeats by Lady GaGa headphones. I know advertisement and endorsements are essential, but this is too much in your face. That’s a pity, because the video is gorgeous and all these advertisements somehow distract the audience from it.

this week was the debut of Lady GAGA’s new video Bad Romance directed by Francis Lawrence and styled by Nicola Formichetti.

lawrence, who has also worked with other artists such as: Britney Spears, Nelly Furtado, Janet Jackson, Gwen Stefani and the Pussycat Dolls to name a few. Besides working on music videos he has also directed feature films, his 2005 debut was the movie Constantine starring Keanu Reeves and recently I Am Legend starring Will Smith. With such a long list of clients and projects, he can now add the amazing miss Lady GAGA to his reference.

personally i think the video is amazing but thats because i’ve become such a GAGA fan nowadays. her over the top stage presentation and fashion attitude is something influential to some of the now boring and “oh so serious” attitudes of some other pop stars. im sorry britney, but 3 is just not competing with this, was it ever?? well with the team of names just behind this video its hard not to, with the jackson thriller dance and early 90’s sound its hard not to get hypnotized into GAGAism. if not the clothes that pulled me in, it was surprisingly her eyes that got me as well, seeing how this was the first time i truly saw her bare without any strong makeup or sunglasses to cover them. im truly looking forward to GAGA’s next video although, hearing her newest single Alejandro, i dont think it will be such eyecandy, good song still but hmm…. ill have to wait and see, that is if there will be a video coming out for it. oh lady GAGA, so good! and to add to this new love i just found out that she was born just a day before me… minus 2 years. could it be destiny? lol.

Ok, despues de la euforia que causara Lady Gaga con su nuevo video es justo decir que en el no solo vimos una gran direccion, moda, luces o modelos, tambien sirvio para ver cumplirle sus fantasias a Tranny Gaga, no tengo nada en contra de ella, pero no podemos negar que en dicho video se ve mejor que en la vida real, cirugia o una edicion (con ayuda del photoshop y otros trucos) me dan la razon, tanto la arreglaron digitalmente que en una de las escenas parace Amy Winehouse, y eso no nada agradable, ustedes tienen la ultima opinion.

What Is It?

Based on a comic book called “Hellblazer,” this is the story of John Constantine (Keanu Reeves). John is a chain smoking, exorcist. He has never repented but tries to drive out demons to earn his way to heaven. Lately the demons are doing something new. As he searches for answers, his friends and confidants all get killed. He also meets a woman cop (Rachel Weisz) who’s twin sister (same actress) has just killed herself. The cop and Constantine go on a quest through our world and the unseen spiritual world (which both of them can see) to restore a balance and keep us alive.

How Was It?

There is a very high “Hipness” factor here. The angel Gabrielle (Tilda Swinton)is super cool, and most of the special effects are good. Still when he “kills” a boss demon, it looked like a kid animated the scene with his Nintendo.

The plot does not go anywhere. Characters either do not change, or switch sides for absolutely no reason. (Some then switch back with just as much explanation.) The movie makes up rules for the way the supernatural works. It often has to stop to tell us all of them. Unfortunately most of the “spiritual” stuff seems like they are making it up as they go along. Then the movie does not even follow its own rules.

It would be a lot better if no one spoke, so you never had to deal with there poor attempt at a plot.

Is It Good For Kids?

This film is very intense. It takes you to hell a couple of times. It also introduces you to demons, and often has lots of monsters just coming out of nowhere. The language isn’t good and there is no pervasive nudity, but the attractive woman cop often ends up completely wet.

Also, as you will see in the next question, the information about God and the spiritual world is at best confusing and at worst heresy.

How about Spiritual Issues?

Religion, as my wife pointed out, is a prop in this film. If it works they use it and if it doesn’t they use what ever else.

At points the theology seems to be going well. The Angel Gabriel answers John’s accusation of God being unfair with “you are going to die because you have smoked 3 packs a day since you were 15 and you are going to hell because of the life you took, so your ****ed” She then explains that he can’t buy his way into heaven, but could just repent and believe in God so he can be saved. It even goes as far as explaining the difference between “knowing” God is there and “Believing” in him.

Still all this goes out the window and is contradicted through out the film. Then the rest is just sad.

John explains that God and Satan have a bet to see who can get the most followers just by influence and never by actual action. (Though there is evidence of both sides acting on people all the time.) He later says that God doesn’t care; he’s just a “Kid with an ant farm.”

Suicide is looked at as a one way ticket to Hell. The two suicides we see in the film are both rejections of God.

The Roman Catholic Church is the only church shown. We only meet 2 priests. The first is only there to tell the surviving twin that her sister’s suicide makes it so she can not have a Catholic funeral.

The other (Pruitt Taylor Vince) is a scary looking fat guy who drinks like mad to avoid having to think about the demons. He finally drinks himself to death during a rampage in a liquor store.

(This is where I spoil the end)

Later Gabriel switches sides and tries to help Satan’s son come into the world. After Satan (Peter Stormare) stops her (he doesn’t want Jr. taking over), she is punished and becomes human. (This is an odd punishment because earlier she pointed out, very Biblically, that she was jealous of humans because they can repent and become children of God.)

John uses suicide to trick Satan into letting him go to heaven. Then Satan chooses to heal John so he doesn’t die. Biblically God is the only one who can heal or has power over who lives and who dies.

What Is Your Recommendation?

Nope.

The film is not good and the script is bad and the theology is terrible. I guess if you’re just in the mood to play “find the heresy”, maybe…. Or if you have a friend who wanted to talk to you about “Is that true?”

Even the totally un-theological “Roger Ebert” said the film was just silly because he spends the whole time trying to earn his way into heaven when “You don’t have to kill these demons to earn your way into heaven because any sin can be forgiven..” Amen

Filme do Sgt. Rock contrata diretor

Parece que finalmente vai sair do papel a adaptação para o cinema dos quadrinhos de Sargento Rock, personagem da DC, pouco conhecido paras as novas gerações, mas que fez muito sucesso nos anos 70 e 80.

Quem produz a adaptação é Joel Silver (Beijos e Tiros, V de Vingança) junto com Akiva Goldsman, a dupla escolheu Francis Lawrence (Eu Sou a Lenda e Constatine e vários video clipes) para dirigir o filme, que teve roteiro escrito pelo estreante Chad St. John.

Na história que se passa durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial, Sargento Franck Rock é um oficial durão, conhecido pela sua difícil personalidade, ele é o comandante da Companhia Moleza. A sua primeira aparição aconteceu em 1959 com desenhos de Joe Kubert e roteiro de Robert Kanigher, em 1977 a revista mudou de nome para Sgt. Rock e foi publicada até 1988.

Quem acompanha o blog sabe que sou fã de quadrinhos desde criança e conheço bem as histórias do Sgt. Rock, se o personagem for bem adaptado tem tudo para ser mais um grande filme e que pode ganhar várias sequências.

Gaga has me going rah-rah-ah-ah-ah again

From the moment I noticed the gold mesh on her nails, this video had me hooked on its dose of absurdness!

(BTW, I checked the video out because Adam Lambert blogged about it on facebook!) One weirdo to another, its funny because I mentioned them both in my last Gaga post (which surprisingly has been the one post that still brings traffic to my blog!)

I have a few reasons for loving the song Bad Romance,

1. As I mentioned before, its simply catchy

2. The song has some crazy power that makes me wanna do some activity LOL

3. Can totally relate to the lyrics (mwahaha that is what having a never ending crush on the most unstable man on earth does to ya! you start relating to Lady Gaga’s lyrical madness! except I don’t want his disease if he has one :-| )

Anyway, back to the video! I’ve watched it a few times already and I think Francis Lawrence has done a cool job! His name sounded familiar so I googled and turns out he directed my favorite band’s music video for The Call! (which is one of my favorite BSB videos) AND he’s the director of I AM LEGEND (WILL SMITH!!)! and Constantine (KEANU REEVES!!)! My favorites again

I love her crazy eyes, at first I thought they’ve put make up on her eye lids so when she closes her eyes they look crazy but now I realized its some mental visual effect. Aliens meet supermodels meet Russian vodka sipping pimps is the theme here, very very very random indeed! I think the gold outfit she wears towards the end with those alien like shoes is fabulously freakishly cool! Its all the weirdness that makes me like her more and more. I’ve also noticed she’s quite a dancer. The best bit of the video is definitely the end where she’s lying on the bed next to a skeleton with the fire cracker in her mouth, its pretty funny. I love how the video goes from one emotion to another (the song in itself is pretty intense I feel) with every emotion backed up by a high dose of eccentricity. Its also good to see a few bits where the camera is focused on Gaga and she doesn’t have much make up on, gives you a chance to actually see for real how she looks like :-|

To be honest, I think Gaga is someone people love to hate and hate to love. She seems so out of the box, I’m actually starting to like it. I have always been a fan of the absurd, random, weird, strangeness in the world and this video satisfies that appetite of my random brain…it is so freaking random, turns my so very random brain to mush!

PS: I am really curious to see how this woman looks fully clothed for once! Really!!!

Now, I’ll admit I was never an avid fan of Lady Gaga, and at points found her quite annoying (sorry Gaga fans!). But, I heard her new single Bad Romance on Jonathan Ross’s radio show and…I kinda’ liked it. It’s apparently from re-release album The Fame Monster (out Nov 23rd!). Thanks to Fashion Copious (what would I do without it!) I saw the video to go along with it, shot by Francis Lawrence. It’s kinda’ creepy (those eyes!), but very much amazing at the same time. Also, check out all that Alexander McQueen, that’s what I call style.
